Lavanila ~ new line of fragrances

Posted by Robin on 4 January 2007 8 Comments

Lavanila line of perfumesLavanila is a new line that will debut at Sephora in February:

Created by Givaudan, the three fragrances — Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Grapefruit and Vanilla Blossom — contain a proprietary blend, intended to provide the skin a daily dose of antioxidants, 30 essential vitamins and minerals and 19 amino acids with each spray. While base notes of each fragrance include Madagascar vanilla, top and middle notes vary depending on the olfactory composition.

The fragrances will be $56 for 50 ml, and a body line will be added in the fall. (via Women's Wear Daily)

Update ~ the notes for the perfumes, via Sephora:

Pure Vanilla has notes of freesia, patchouli, heliotrope and Madagascar vanilla.

Vanilla Grapefruit features grapefruit, bergamot, lime, patchouli, heliotrope and Madagascar vanilla.

Vanilla Blossom includes freesia, lemon, karo karounde, rose, jasmine, orange blossom and Madagascar vanilla.

I'm dying to know more about this line…the scents sound amazing….but I tried to get it from sephora and they say that it's not available yet…anyone know anything about the line?

I was wondering what anyone else thought of the Vanilla Grapefruit scent? I tried it once a while ago (but I don't remember much about it except that I kind of liked it) and I can't find a review of it on the site.

I've also gotta say- the marketing tried to use the design of the bottle as one of the line's selling points. I found this to be really immature. The bottle design wasn't anything special (just rectangular with mediocre design), and while the box was quite appealing, who's going to care what the box looks like? We're not spraying on the boxes, we're spraying on the perfume.

So far, I've thought the whole line was just ok. I know it has some fans on MakeupAlley though.

Companies spend lots of money designing boxes, so can only assume it helps make the sale — but I don't care about them either.

Right now I have Vanilla Grapefruit on one wrist, Vanilla Blossom on the other. Smelling the bottle, VB made me salivate, it just reminded me so strongly of that spicy deliciousness of vanilla bean pods. Once sprayed, I didn't like VB – too much of a generic flower smell, and then after a while it started smelling like Flower Bomb to me which is cool since that is my usual fragrance. So its nice though I don't think I would purchase.

VG is nice. Very gourmand. It kind of reminds me of a banana cream pie, not sure where the grapefruit note is. Its very sweet. It also could remind me of suntan lotion. But I like it. It could be a good summery scent.

I just got some samples from Sephora and as the lady was decanting them, I tried the Vanilla Grapefruit on a tester strip. I wish I had asked her to decant this one as well. It was wonderful for the first 10 minutes and then most of the citrus faded, leaving a good Vanilla. This was on paper. How will it be on skin?
