More on that smellophone being developed in Japan to "record and play back" fragrance: it might qualify as a "smellophone" some day, but for the present, it is actually too large to be portable:
But the unit's large size is also limitation because the 96 odor-forming chemicals are contained in separate glass bottles. A more compact version, which includes only the sensors, can record smells but must be hooked up to the blender to regenerate them.

Yikes, that's depressing. To think that the whole universe of lovely,multifaceted, nuanced and also icky and rotten smells can be reduced to 96 chemicals that can be vaporized and poofed across the airwaves. I choose to remain a pouting skeptic.
It is sort of disconcerting, L, although I think all they've done to date is reproduce the odors of a few fruits. Don't think they can replicate Chanel no. 5 just yet…
