Città di Kyoto was released by Santa Maria Novella last year to mark the 40th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Florence and Kyoto.
The fragrance features iris for Florence and lotus for Kyoto; other notes include bergamot, orange, jasmine, hyacinth, rose, hawthorn, ylang-ylang, plum, peach, cinnamon, sandalwood, cedar, ebony, ambergris and vanilla.
Santa Maria Novella Città di Kyoto is now available in the US at Aedes.
Update: see a review of Santa Maria Novella Città di Kyoto.
It would be interesting to smell one of the more modern scents from this esteemed house. The only ones that I have smelled are the old established ones that are very vintage in style.
I wonder who their perfumer is?
This one could be lots of fun! I agree with Prince Barry and am wondering the same thing he's wondering ;D.
I would love to know too. Didn't SMN supposedly create Nanadebary Classic too?
L, so far it has had pretty positive reviews, but haven't tried it myself.
I was given a gift of the Pomegrano Soap from SMN and it is one of the best soaps I have every used. (maybe the very best).
I meant to say Melograno (Pomegranate)..ack, count that as a blonde moment.
You know for a split second about two years ago you could get a spray apparatus with SMN scents…I got one for my Aqua di Cuba in the Florence store. Wonder what happened to that…I just don't enjoy pouring scent on myself! HA! (but will try this; love lotus). K
No es la mejor fragancia de SM Novella, pero me gusta su tono polvoriento y ligeramente floral.
LOL…I must have been having the same blonde moment, because I knew exactly what you meant.
Really, you're sure they don't have them in Florence any more? I would much rather have an atomizer too.
My Spanish is as rusty as my French…is it dusty? And now wondering what you think the best SMN is.
Robin, it's just gorgeous. A must-try for incense fragrance lovers, of which I am one. A different, dry, meditative take on incense. Also a radical departure from the simple soliflore SMN.
Ah, I thought I remembered incense mentioned in connection with this scent. Will have to get my hands on a sample!
Not sure if they still have the atomizers available in Italy. But here in Seattle two stores DID have the SMN atomizers up until a couple years ago…you had to PAY for them mind you ($3) but I appreciated having them as an option. HA! I guess my blond moment of today was calling an atomizer a 'spray apparatus'! K
Might be worth checking with Aedes or Lafco to see if they have them…
I got an atomizer with the bottle of Melograno I purchased at the Lafco store a year ago. I *may* have had to pay extra for it…I can't recall.
I like this one – a lighter incense scent than some of my others (CdG for example). I have always received a sprayer with my perfumes upon request, and not paid extra. LAFCO will not sell sprayers to you separately (I tried) but Amin Kader in Paris will (at an exorbitant price, but at least you can get them and they are nice gold ones). I know the boutiques in Madrid, Milan and Rome also supply sprayers on request at no extra charge. The ones in Milan were cheap white plastic ones though, not nearly as nice as the gold ones in Paris and elsewhere.
Any comparison with any other incense scents that you can think of? I am going to have to get it eventually, looks like.
Hmm, can't think of a specific comparison unfortunately. It is lighter and drier than the CdG series, not resinous like most incense scents. Maybe a bit like Angelique Encens, but not as bitter/strong.
Thanks, that helps!

Is there a place in Seattle selling Santa Maria Novella? I live near Seattle.
I, too, have a pug dog!

Don't know if Kevin will see your note, but I think (do call first) you can find SMN at Lucca Great Finds and Essenza, both in Seattle.
