Life intervenes, again: no perfume review today

Posted by Robin on 5 January 2006 21 Comments

Yes, once again I am behind. On everything. Despite that am off to do some perfume shopping and see what new fragrances have hit the stores. It promises to be a banner year for fragrance: check out the New Perfumes page, where there are already 90-odd releases listed for the coming year. How will we all keep up?

Promise to be back tomorrow with a real review of something or another. In the meantime, here is a lovely ad for Etro Musk from Images de Parfums, for no reason other than I love the colors.

How will we keep up? Heh, by re-visiting our notes from last decade. I was ambling along in Neiman Marcus yesterday and was ambushed by a Hanae Mori-wielding SA, and after the gagging and choking subsided, I thought, “Hmm, Chopard Casmir.” It's really hard to find a new original; it either smells like something or reminds me of something, like that “Truly” stuff that smells like Cristalle.

On a related note, I'm now conviced that the Neiman Marcus SAs are a breed from outer space. No sooner had I picked up a bottle than I'm dive-bombed by at least 3 fearsome Valkyrie types. The pitch: *Very* exclusive, *Very* expensive. Sick. Of. It. Just leave me alone, I don't buy/own/wear perfume to gain class entrance. I hate shopping there.

I hope you had fun sniffing today! I did spend a happy few minutes perusing the “new releases” list as you suggested. I was so happy to see that there is an upcoming scent from Jean Louis Scherrer, since I love the first two. Then I remembered Immense, which I thought immensely disappointing, lol! I'm crossing my fingers that the new one will be a return to glory.

And you'd better have a Blind Contour drawing, LOL!

Bought a pretty pink leather case for my iPOD, and some gloves for my son….not even close to your trouble, I don't think ;-)

LOL! They were very well behaved at my NM this morning. Nothing much new to smell there, though…although saw a few pairs of earrings I could live with if I had to.

Not sure I've ever smelled anything by JLS, so will have to go look up the first two!

Hi everyone, I'm Gina. I'm new to this site. I have to say, out of all the sites I've visited regarding perfume, I love the way everyone here writes – the descriptions are incredible. I'm thrilled that there's others out there who don't have just one scent they wear every day. I love so many, it would be hard to choose just one. Some of my favorites are “Passage D'Enfer”, “Tea for Two”, and “Mure et Musk” by L'Artisan and Comme des Garcons “Incense Avignon”.

Thank you for this amazing site.

Welcome Gina! Love your taste in perfume (Passage d'Enfer is one of my all time favorites) and always glad to have another fragrance addict on board :-)

Thank you – SO happy to be here. Tried a yummy one by Montale last night – Sweet Oriental. Glad you appreciate Passage d'Enfer too.

Thanks again for welcoming me. I'm happy to be among others like me. :o)
