Susanne Lang's Cashmere is a light oriental fragrance, a scent of milky-caramel sweetness accented by a slight perfume accord which does indeed evoke the enveloping and cozy experience of being wrapped up in a cashmere sweater. Many have compared it to Calvin Klein's Sheer Obsession, and I myself find it very similar to Yosh's Temperare #3, but either way, it is a lovely fragrance that I wear frequently during the fall and winter months. As with all the Susanne Lang scents in the Ready To Wear line, it comes in Eau de Parfum spray, roll on, body lotion, shower gel and dry oil spray.
The jojoba-based dry oil is a superb product which is wonderful for layering or as a stand-alone perfume. The scent is a dead-on rendition of the Eau de Parfum, it has the same sillage and lasting power, and it moisturizes extremely well to boot. The packaging is simple but elegant: a tall cylindrical glass bottle with the green Susanne Lang label across the center and a sturdy silver atomizer which ensures a clean and easy application.
I am such a big fan of the dry oil that I would hesitate to buy the Ready To Wear scents in any other form. It is a fabulous deal — 4 oz. for $40 compared to $50 for 1 oz of Eau de Parfum or $35 for a 1/3 oz roll on. The problem, of course, is that this extremely reasonable price only applies to the Ready to Wear line ( which also includes Vanilla Coconut, Yellow Blossom, Anjou Pear, Exotic Tea, Acqua Fresca and Sandalwood) — once one ventures into the territory of custom scents or even the pre-made scents from the fragrance bar, the price for the dry oil rises to a steep $95. I find this slightly infuriating, as most of my favorite Susanne Lang scents are not in the Ready to Wear line. However, the dry oil is still a great deal in comparison, as Eau de Parfums of any of these scents can run from $120 to as much as $250.

A, I am not a big fan of oils, don't like the feel of them on my skin, rubbing in, etc. I haven't tried dry oil though as far as I remember, would you say, it is different from regular oil? Stupid question but, when sprayed on, does it just dry as say an EDP or EDT or does it still require rubbing in, and also, is it sticky? I am sorry, I know it sounds quite moronic. SuL dry oils sound like such a great deal compared to EDPs.
M, not moronic at all! Dry oils require rubbing in, but pretty much the same amount of rubbing in as a lotion. I hate applying perfume oils, and in fact I think I've thrown out all my purely oil-based scents because I don't have the patience to deal with them and find them messy — but dry oils are much much easier to tolerate and I use them often. No stickiness either. Try one if you can!
I have the Vanilla Coconut dry oil and like it very much as a compliment to the EDP spray. My skin is very dry and absorbs anything I put on it so I use the cream too.
I gave my Cashmere oil away as I decided I didn't like it that much (the scent that is) 🙂
Glad you asked these questions, Colombina! I never understood what “dry oil” was and how to apply it.
I have the Black Orchid dry oil and really like it. It isn't sticky at all, just rub it in like a lotion.
Ditto for me!
I'm seeing them more often in retail stores, and I never understood how they differed from regular perfume oils or how they should be applied.
Oh, I'm jealous! I definitely plan on getting Black Orchid too as well as Sugarcane at some point…
I've been wondering about the cream! You like it then? I'm planning to try out that and the shower gel when I get a chance…
