Posted by Robin on 5 September 2005 16 Comments

Moschino Friends Men fragrance

Moschino will launch Moschino Friends Men, a fresh citrus developed by perfumer Olivier Polge, in October in Europe. The bottle and advertising feature images of the Italian flag. (via cosmeticnews)

Update: Moschino Friends Men is an Eau de Toilette, and the notes include bergamot, tangerine, orange, Bourbon geranium, petitgrain, Mediterranean sea breeze accord, woods and musk.

Parfum d'Empire will launch Ambre Russe in October in France. The fragrance is meant to evoke Tsarist Russia and features notes of champagne, vodka, amber, tea, leather, spices and incense. (via france2)

The Russian scent sounds intriguing. Wonder what the bottle will look like?

The Moschino ad is horrible. It is KISS makeup… in italian colors.

    *shudders*

A, I think they are supposed to look like Italian soccer fans? But you're right, it isn't attractive!

Vodka? oh come one! *almost insulted* Well ok, I guess one may consider it a part of the Russian image, but honestly…vodka, amber, leather, incense and tea…sounds like too much for me, this may turn out to be perfumey, intense and overwhelming. No really, if they made Ambre Mexicano, would it have tequila in it? *rolls eyes*

LOL — M, you are a tough customer! You're right, could be overwhelming. I'll try anything with incense though!

I don't think they'll be doing Ambre Mexicano; the “Empire” part is serious. Their first perfume was Eau de Gloire, and was based on the fragrances worn by Napoleon. This one is the Tsars. I think they have another one coming for Josephine. You get the idea. Mexico will have to stick with Un Bois Vanille 🙂

LOL. I guess I am just in a bit of denial about vodka. Of course Tsars drank it by a gallon. As did (ok, still do) mere mortals 🙂 Now, Bourbon French have a wonderful perfume called Romanov, but that is all roses and honey and evergthing nice – fits my glorified image of tsars like a glove. 😀 Crown Perfumery has Eau de Russe, apparently made for Nicolai II and that one is also a very harmeless SOBER scent, a delicate floral.

Having said all that, of course I am dying to try Ambre Russe, vodka and all.

Hey, I adore Eau de Russe, harmless & sober though it may be. It is one of very few powdery fragrances that I love, and I will never forgive Clive Christian for discontinuing it.

Oh I absolutely love it and am dying for a full bottle of it. Mr Christian should be tried for his crimes against perfumistas 😀

Tsarist Russia! What will it smell of: tyrannical despots, starving, illiterate peasants, pogroms? Oh, I so wish we would stop romanticize those horrible people. I could never wear a perfume that was supposed to evoke them.

J, maybe it needs a feature on Slap of the Day, LOL! Perhaps perfumes meant to evoke world empires are not PC?

LOL! Good idea! But it's not a question of being PC (I'm one of the least PC people around); it's a question of seeing only the glamour of those periods without thinking of the misery that came with it.

I know J — but the glamour is what sells. Eau de Serfdom would not go over well on the marketplace 😉

    Eau de Serfdom!!! ROTFL! Brilliant!

Btw, congratulations on the NY Times success. Well-deserved, imo. 🙂
