Give if you can

Posted by Robin on 2 September 2005 17 Comments

You can help the victims of Hurricane Katrina by donating to the Red Cross, either online or by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW. You can also find other worthwhile charities that are providing food, shelter, and medical assistance at Charity Navigator, or at FEMA.

Note: luckyscent is donating 10% of all September profits to the Red Cross.

Update:

Perfumemart is auctioning off selected fragrances on ebay; all proceeds of the auctions will be donated to the Red Cross.

La Creme Beauty is donating 10% of all sales in September to the Red Cross.

    Hi M,

Is there lots of coverage on Japanese TV? It is about all they are showing on the news shows here, and much of the footage is simply astounding.

R, I agree with you that the footage is astounding and gutwrenching.

I rarely get political, or emotional in a bad way, on the sites I frequent, but I am angry! Once again our leaders have failed to have the foresight to protect their citizens, particularly those who are poor and usually people of color. I guess it's more important for them to fund the war in Iraq than to shore up levees on their own shores.

Okay, I've vented. Thank you for indulging me, my friend.

I urge every one of our perfume friends who frequent this wonderful site to please, please dig into your pockets and give to the charity of your choice in this massive hurricane relief effort.

I am going to try to get over to luckyscent next week to meet Franco and test some fragrances. I hope to purchase something so that part of the purchase price can go towards relief efforts.

Hugs! Thank you again, R, for this very important reminder.

R, I don't do politics online either, for the most part, but this has been a real eye-opener for me. I never thought I would see such a thing in my own country.

    Hey — I didn't know Luckyscent had a brick n mortar store???

Hugs to you & have a great weekend.

Apparently they do. I think our very own MUA gem, parisjasmal, told me about it (and she doesn't even live in LA, and I do!! Go figure!). Anyway, I called Franco to ask about it. Sure enough, he does have a small boutique on La Brea Avenue in LA, which you can visit by appointment.

I can't wait to see it!

    Hugs!

Thank you for posting this. I am also completely shocked by the events, by the lack of foresight. Watching the coverage makes me pinch myself to realize that I am watching events that are taking place here. It is simply heart wrenching. It makes me so angry!

It´s so sad what happened, feeling helpless is hard to bear. Such a disaster always brings out peoples best & worst sides. Being German I don´t have the right to judge the American government. I really hope the situation will get better!

S, you are nicer than I. If such a disaster took place in Germany, I would certainly judge the German government by their actions or lack thereof. If someone had told me that we would allow thousands of people to languish for days without food, water, shelter or medical attention after a major natural disaster, I would have thought they were crazy. Now we know.

Thank you for posting this R. By the way, at the Wednesday, Sept. 7 game, in conjunction with Major League Baseball, the Dodgers will be one of 15 home teams that will “pass the hat” that day to collect donations from fans. Major League Baseball will match the total collected at all the ballparks up to $1 million. You can give at the ballpark or by telephone. The telephone number to call in donations will appear on the side of the bases. Wednesday will be a great day to watch a game and to give since your $$ will be doubled.

Bella Luccè is donating 50% off all proceeds sold on Wednesday, September 7th. Plus every item on the site will be discounted that day by 15%. While they don't sell fragrance on their site they have a lot of very fragrant items.

I meant 50% of all sales are being donated toward the American Red Cross’s hurricane relief efforts. Sorry for the typo.

Thanks for posting, S. Fragrant items are good too, and typos don't much matter ;-)
