Two Leaf & Co candles

Posted by Robin on 21 July 2005 11 Comments

Two Leaf & Co Iced Black Tea candleI am always on the lookout for bargain candles with interesting scents. This week I have been burning soy candles from Two Leaf & Co, an etailer that also carries scented body lotions, creams, and soaps. Here are the three candles that I tried:

Orange Blossom: This is a lovely soliflore orange blossom. It is only lightly sweet, but is considerably less dry and bitter than my old standby orange blossom candle, Soyology Venus. Very cheerful and a nice bathroom scent.

Pomegranate & Rosewater: The notes also include bergamot and black tea. This is a fruity floral, not too sweet, and perfectly balanced between the pomegranate and rose. It is very sparkling and bright, and a great scent for summer. It has inspired me to look for more pomegranate perfumes, so please comment if you have any recommendations.

Iced Black Tea: Described as "aged black tea leaves, zest of bergamot, rose petals & smoky cedar wood." This is my favorite of the three. It is a deep, slightly smoky tea with a bit of citrus, nicely dry, with very light wood undertones.

A 6.5 oz scented candle in a glass jar with a screw on lid is very reasonably priced at $12. They burn clean and the throw is good. Available at twoleafandco.

Candle reviews always manage to tempt me, esp. when you say bargain. I am tired of seeing $40 candles (and that is the low end of the high end spectrum, it seems). I dislike Diptyque, which have no throw. These sound excellent, and I am sure I will give them a try one of these days.

As for pomegranate fragrances, SMN Melograno is a pretty good rendition of the fruit, sweet-sour flesh and tangy peel combined. Guerlain Samsara Shine had a pleasant pomegranate accord, but overall it was ok. These are the two I can think off the top of my head.

V, I am a real cheapskate when it comes to candles. I drool over the Diptyques but would never pay the price. I have been burning mostly Trapp & Soyology candles. I bought 1 Henri Bendel candle, which was fairly reasonably priced at $25, but even that is more than I'd like to spend.

Tried Melograno once on a scent strip but need to put it on skin. Just remembering that iPF has a pomegranate too.

I had just finished reading an email about this candle company when I opened NST, so it was perfect timing for me!

These candles sound wonderful, especially the Iced Black Tea. I will wait to order until the weather cools down (it's 114 right now) otherwise I will only get a glass full of melted wax :(

The only pomegranite scents I have sampled are the DSH Pomegranite & the SMN. While both were bright & fruity, there was just something that didn't work well with my skin, so I have abandoned this note for now.

However, I have tried the Henri Bendel Pomegranite candle and it is lovely…a very bright and pleasant scent with a good throw.

Hi V! It is too hot to ship anything this week.

Will have to look for the Henri Bendel. My local BBW has not yet been renovated so we don't have the “upscale” items yet.

Ooh, always looking for inexpensive soy candles. Candles can be so pricey. I love the sound of that black tea one. Thanks for the tip!

T, There is a green tea one too that I should try. Let me know what you think if you try them!

R, I´ve some suggestions concerning pomegranate fragrances: “Pomegranate Anis” from Fresh which smells really fresh & a bit too soapy for my taste, it´s not a bad scent, but nothing that I need to buy. I had a sample & sometimes I smelled the anis rather strong, sometimes I couldn´t detect it at all. “Grenades” from Keiko Mecheri is the other pomegranate fragrance I´ve tested so far. It´s sweeter, not as soapy as “Pomegranate Anis”, a soft, but fruity scent which I can imagine to be comforting in hot weather. But I´ve a problem with almost all of the Mecheri scents: I like them, but for the price I´d like to have something more special, if you know what I mean?

Thanks for the recs! I have never put Grenades on skin and should do that. So far the only “full bottle worthy” KM I've found is Osmanthus, although I like Peau de Peche too.

I don´t know “Osmanthus”, but I like “Peau de Pêche” very much, but it reminds me of MPG “Fraîche Passiflore” & since I own that already I didn´t feel the need to buy “Peau de Pêche”. The only KM fragrance I bought so far is “Loukhoum” which is one of my prefered fragrances in winter.

These candles sound wonderful. I'll have to try them! I love pomegranate, and my new favorite pomegranate-based fragrance is Sunday Girl from Ava Luxe. It smells like the fruit, rather than the blossoms (as in SMN Melograno), and it's very fresh and sparkling.

I have not yet tried anything from Ava Luxe and will have to look for that. I like the name “Sunday Girl” for some reason!
