There is an interesting article in Gulf News (link no longer working, sorry!) about the worldwide oudh trade. As with sandalwood, oudh trees have been overharvested in the wild and are now threatened with extinction in parts of the world.

I'm not so sure if I'm familiar with oudh. I might have smelled it before, but I might just have read about it in my history texts… (blush)
Is this a note used in fragrances as well? If so, which ones?
Hi M, Oudh has a distinctive smell, and is in more men's than women's fragrances. It is in YSL M7, Gobin Daude Nuit au Desert, OJ Ormonde for men, and many of the Montales. Hoping others will add to that list, it is all I can think of off the top of my head.
Adding 10 Corso Como to the oud list, and if agarwood is the same thing, CdG Sequoia as well.
Thanks K! I should have remembered 10 Corso Como.
I'm wondering if anyone has ordered from arabianbazaar.com? The offerings are FULL 'O OUDH…and are tempting. I think I may order (without the usual pre-purchase sniff) just because the ingredients seem so “fool-proof” (famous last words!): oudh, sandalwood, amber, rose, etc. Kevin
I haven't, hoping someone more helpful will come along 🙂
