Blogger gives up for the day…

Posted by Robin on 25 May 2005 26 Comments

I meant to post a review of Miller et Bertaux's new Green scent today, but I have wasted the morning trying to get the accent marks to appear correctly in the Guerlain post below, and as you can see, I failed completely. The blogosphere gremlins are against me today, so I am giving up! I need to get myself over to Trader Joes as we are completely out of chocolate covered cherries, and I simply cannot battle accent marks without them. I will post on the MB tomorrow.

In the meantime, for your viewing enjoyment I present this lovely old ad for Mitsouko. They don't make them like they used to, no?

If you are wearing something wonderful, please comment. I am wearing Tan Guidicelli's Annam, a very calming scent that is perfect for today's unseasonably cold weather. It used to be available at ccb-paris, but they have most unkindly ceased shipping to the United States, and it does not show up on their French site either so I assume it is discontinued.

Okay, I know you must be frustrated and ready to tear your hair out, but this line…

“I need to get myself over to Trader Joes as we are completely out of chocolate covered cherries, and I simply cannot battle accent marks without them. ”

… just made me do such a sudden loud guffaw that I woke my dog up and now he's growling at me for it.

LOL about the TJ stuff, R! I totally understand how you feel! Go ahead, you deserve it!

K, right after I posted the above, my entire computer froze. I have now wasted another hour getting it running again. I am going to buy at least 4 tubs of the chocolate covered cherries. Sorry about your dog :-)

Chocolate covered cherries! LOL! I remember many years ago, my sister and I went to see the original “Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” starring Gene Wilder. Talk about the power of suggestion! I devoured three boxes of chocolate covered cherries. Later that night, I broke out in a rash, and looked like a cherry covered chocolate (get it? ha, ha!).

I have always loved chocolate covered cherries, although I can't remember the last time I indulged in them. There's something about that initial burst of cherry cordial, mixed in with the chocolate that is an unforgettable taste sensation! :):)

Anyway, my love, you are more than entitled to have a “bad blog day.” It happens! I love the Mitsouko ad, but I must admit that I usually wear this divine, historic fragrance in cooler weather, as it has a tendency to completely envelop me all day long.

Today I am wearing Burberry Brit Red. Yes, this is another banal department strore creation from the now uber-trendy Burberry conglomerate. But there is something about this fragrance that makes me feel yummy and fragrant. In a word, I love it!

Mme NST: the power you exert — do you feel it?! I woke up, put on my green, green, green and green sample for the first time — all in anticipation of your commentary! HA! Now I must wear it again TOMORROW — unheard of! (P.S.: after your review of the Coty MUGUET DES BOIS I bought a bottle and am using it as a room spray with wonderful results. It DOES smell uncannily like the real thing!)

R, A cherry covered chocolate — good one, LOL! The TJ chocolate covered cherries don't have the cordial, they are just a dried cherry covered with chocolate. But the last time I had one of the cordial ones it tasted horrible…like the same person who is responsible for reformulating all the classic perfumes has been messing with that cordial recipe.

I liked BB Red, although all I have done so far is smell it on a test strip. We all need a banal department store creation once in awhile :-)

I am so sorry! I hope you like it well enough to wear it 2 days in a row then. I am liking it very much but going to try it from a spray later today, as I'm not having much luck so far with staying power.

Interesting on the Coty — I suppose it is cheap enough to use it as a room spray but I never would have thought of it! I tend to be doing the opposite, e.g. using room sprays as perfume, LOL!

If you like almonds, try TJ cocoa-covered almonds. Not too sweet and the almonds are roasted to perfection. This is my fav of their candies.

Wow, what a gorgeous ad to go with a gorgeous fragrance! With an ad like this, how can you not love the scent???

I'm wearing Antica Farmacista Vaniglia & Mandarino. This is yummy and fun orange/vanilla. When the rich, bourbon vanilla drydown comes, I can't stop sniffing my wrist.

Iris, I love those almonds! Unfortunately so does my husband so they disappear at an alarming rate. Happily he doesn't like the cherries, LOL, so they are all mine.

And the AF Vaniglia is the *only* fragrance my son has not said “yuck” to…he loves it!! He says it smells like cookies, and I think so too. Very nice.

I DO like it well enough for a second day — I've had it on for four hours and smell it fine…but no one else gets a hint of it (is that good or bad?) I've worn a room spray myself! HA! I love Votivo's TEAK scent — a damp, tropical wood smell.

Darn it, NST, and I was just pining (heh heh) for the new M & B article. Oh well, today I am wearing a combo of the following Susanne Lang rolled-on fragrances: Freesia, Orange Blossom, Ambergris and Blue Musk. Talk about lovely. Oh, and add Soft Woods if you are feeling autumnal today. Chilly here, too.

    Chin up, NST and me.

Yes, I think it has very little sillage. I don't usually care, since I wear fragrance for myself anyway. But I don't think I've gotten 4 hours out of it yet.

And Votivo Teak, eh? That sounds intriguing.

GG, or GGG as the case may be today, this whole day has turned out to be a waste. Due to continuing misadventures I will not even make it to Trader Joes. But have just eaten my last bar of Fauchon dark chocolate with candied orange peel, so my chin is up, if a little fatter.

    The SL combo sounds wonderful!

Well, R, I'm glad you didn't go ahead with your review while still simmering with frustration. I think a green green green scent needs a calm mind! Is it really OK to wear room scents, BTW? I sometimes spray my l'Occitane Amber and then 'accidentally' walk through the mist – makes my hair smell delish. N

N, I can only assume room sprays are not tested to be safe on skin, so I guess the answer is no, it probably isn't ok! Since I doubt it is really safe to use regular perfume either, I just don't worry about it. My favorite room sprays are the Diptyque John Galliano & the L'Artisan Tilleuls au Vent.

Hoping for a calmer, greener day tomorrow :-)

Thank you very much, I'm now lemming those lovely dried cherries enrobed in chocolate and will probably have to make my own trip to TJ's. Would you like me to “overnite” some to you, R?

I'm wearing L'Artisan Extrait de Songe for the 3rd straight day, but since it's fall again here in New England, it doesn't feel quite right. 10CC or Nanadebary Pink would've been more weather-appropriate choices.

Hope you have a better day tomorrow, R.

K, I am cracking up at the idea of FedExing cheap food products from TJs! Not to worry, I will get over there tomorrow morning ;-)

I am almost sure that you & I are exact opposites when it comes to perfume, K! I can't wear 10CC either.

Right you are…my doctor, who sees me rarely, ALWAYS comments on my colognes. He has given me many lectures on the brain-damaging, gene-altering, disease-inducing properties of chemicals used in perfume manufacturing. (I read recently that a bunch of chemicals used in perfume will be banned in a few years in Europe). Oh well…what can ya do…but spritz and hope for the best? Such talk of CHILLS where you and other bloggers are — believe it or not it should be 84 degrees in Seattle tomorrow!!!!!!!!

Fragrance is bad for you? Say it isn't so! I never thought about it, but I suppose any “chemicals” are toxic in some degree. I like to think the mood-enhancing benefits of scent outweigh the negative effects.

84 in Seattle! As a former Seattle-lite, I'm always tickled when the temp there is higher than in West L.A.!

Had to laugh! Sorry you had a tough time and yes, the ad is exquisite.

I'm wearing my Diorella sample today (guess where I got it? :-)) and it is just lovely! Perfect for a sunny, spring day.

G, so glad to see you! All is fixed already, it was just a little blogharbor problem that has been taken care of. Meanwhile I ate a pound of chocolate.

Yay Diorella, and jealous of your sunny, spring day! We are shivering here!

Sorry to hear about your computer troubles! Thank you for posting that vintage ad – so beautiful!

Its very sunny & springy in my part of the world, so today I wore my Guerlain Lilia Bella. One of the few Acqua Allegorias I love. It is Lily of the Valley but also has a definite hint of Lilac – my very favorite spring flower.

Looking forward to more posts! Oh, and I'm really partial to chocolate covered cranberries myself.

Yes, R, we probably are fragrance opposites, but your lovely reviews still tempt me and I've ordered many a scent based on them! I'm exploring fragrances I didn't were “me” and discovering the range of my likes/dislikes. I thank you very much for that!

I did go to TJ's yesterday afternoon, but passed by those cherries in favor of more healthful bars of 73% chocolate. Love that dark stuff!

Lilia Bella is one of the Aqua Allegorias I haven't tried yet. I love lily of the valley so should look for it if it isn't one of the AAs they have already discontinued.

I'm sure Trader Joes has chocolate covered cranberries, I'll have to look for them :-)

My tastes are expanding too. Maybe we'll end up fragrance twins after all :-)

Hey, cherries are healthful, aren't they? LOL!!!
