Bottega Veneta will launch their debut fragrance, Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum, this month. The scent was created under arrangements with Coty, and is fronted by Nine d’Urso. According to Creative Director Thomas Maier...
I envisioned a room with old wood floors, library walls and leather-bound books with the windows open wide, the breeze coming in and cut grass, hay, moss, garden flowers, growing through the room and everything mixing up. That’s where we started.
Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum is a leathery floral chypre developed by perfumer Michel Almairac; notes include patchouli, oak moss, bergamot, jasmine and pink pepper.
Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum will be available in 50 ($95) and 75 ($130) ml and in matching body products. A limited edition Extrait in Murano glass will be $395 for 90 ml, and will be exclusive to Bottega Veneta boutiques. (via wwd)
Update: see a review of Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum.
Did I read “leathery floral chypre” and not “fruity floral”?? Will this be available in the U.S? It’s a must-try for me!
Yes, it will be in the US.
This actually sounds awesome. I LOVE leather-bound books!!
It sounds good, yes, and like the ad.
Sounds fantastic! I feel a blind buy coming up.
Never buy unsniffed!
I have to disagree. Sometimes, I buy a sample from, say, the perfumed court. And it costs a little, and then there’s the shipping to Sweden. And then, I love the scent and want a full bottle. And I have to order it and pay shipping all over again. It’s almost the same cost as if I bought the full bottle at first.
When you live in a corner of the world, shipping is very expensive, and most niche scents are impossible to buy domestic.
Oh, that makes sense! Well, hope you love it then.
Im sure the full bottle doesnt cost less than an extra shipping fee. What about the blind buys that you end up not liking at all? Then thats the price of a full bottle completely gone to waste.
I have to agree with Anna. Most samples cost as much as a full bottle from a discount website. I also buy unsniffed and if I really dislike the perfume then my sister, neice, mother or assorted friends score it. There havent been many though as I know what notes I like .
Oh, this is exciting. I think they make gorgeous clothes and accessories and put a lot of emphasis on quality materials and craftsmanship so I’m really hoping the fragrance will turn out as lovely as the brief makes it out to be.
They do make really nice things, although they wouldn’t be the first company that makes really nice things to do a really dull scent 😉
True. As soon as I read “Coty” it was disappointing. As the king of the celebrity perfume, Coty now means cheap and commercial to me. Too bad. But the notes do sound interesting at least!!!
They have done lots of things I liked lately though: Love, Chloe & Balenciaga Paris, for instance. So it could be wonderful, who knows? We’ll see.
Oh! Didn’t know they did the Balenciaga. Love that one!
It’s easy to forget how many brands they have in the Coty Prestige group — Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood, Vera Wang — on & on.

Ha, yes, very true! And I do realise that most designer houses see fragrance as a way to make quick and easy money so mass appeal and potential for commercial success trumps originality but I’m still hoping for something beautiful. We’ll find out soon enough.
And look at the model! She actually looks like a nice, classy woman thinking about something other than sex. Shocking. Old wood floors…I hope they’re waxed and not polyurethaned!
could be a goodie
This sounds like something I will defnititely need to get a sample of.
oh yes, this does sound interesting. I have read interviews to Mr Meier, and he does seem to be a perfectionist, if the scent is as carefully constructed as the bottega bags and has the same kind of aesthetic background, well… (not that I can afford the bags, unfortunately)
To me, Botega Veneta signals understated luxury and impeccable quality, so when I read your announcement I thought that it would be at least tasteful. But the description and the notes just blew my mind! Could something like that really pass all those focus group testings? It sound very, very interesting and I’m sure this will generate a huge buzz in the perfume communities and blogs.
I used to comment here years ago, but I can’t for the life of me remember my username so this is my first reply under this name. I love this blog and I’m very happy to be back.
This sounds really interesting- old wood floors and books and green grass. Lovely imagery in my head! If they could get that lovely old book- page smell in there ….fab!
Sounds like Devin. I like Devin 🙂
I am soooo excited! I love the the label and heard they were finally producing a fragrance but no notes were published. This is wonderful news. One question, though: I’ve heard the name prononunced several different ways but don’t know the definitive. Is it BOH-teh-gah VEN-eh-tah, Boh-TAY-gah Ven-AY-tah, BOH-teh-gah Ven-AY-tah…? Help! lol!

Thanks, Robin! What a useful site. I’ve bookmarked it for future reference.
I wouldn’t bother: their attempts to transcribe Comme des Garçons, Givenchy, Lanvin and Louis Vuitton are hilarious. As for Hermès and Yves Saint Laurent, they are just wrong (it’s ‘ehr-mess’ not ‘ehr-mez’, and the final ‘t’ in Saint Laurent should not be pronounced). For French names, come to my site: http://fragnameoftheday.blogspot.com
Ah, good to know, thanks. Well then you will have to add Bottega Veneta!
I already have your page bookmarked, Bela. 🙂 I have referenced it many times just to retune my ear to the actual French pronunciation of some of the names. BG always puzzled me because everyone from fashion critics to sales clerks have pronounced this so many different ways, I was so confused!
HATE When people Say “SAIN-T” Laurent instead of pronouncing in “SAIN” the T is Most DEFINITELTY Silent… almost as atrocious… Ralph “LOR-WREN” HELL NO! do you pronounce Ms. Hutton’s first name in that manner!?!?!?! it’s “LAW-REN”
as for Hermes…. with proper French Nasal pronounciation the last syllable can be pronounced as and “EZ” Sound and not as an “ESS” Sound… in fact pronouncing it “Air-Mess” sounds downright WRONG! perhaps “Air-Mays” is Closer but the Stress on the “ES” at the end is most definitely more of a “Z” Sound!
“leathery floral chypre?” Mmm, this is definitely must-sniff territory for me!
I think it’s boh-TAY-ga ven-AY-tah.
That models name is Nine? Coincidentally i think that is also her waist measurement in inches. Wow, she is really anorexic! The fragrance philosophy does sound great though.
Liking the sound of the fragrance as well – reminds me of Kelly Caleche – though there’s no actual leather note listed.
MY HEART JUST STOPPED!!!!!!!!!!! You Have NO IDEA How much i love Tomas Meier’s Work at BV and been waiting for a Fragrance from the house for what feels like EONS! This is more than i could have POSSIBLY Dreamt for! That Stunningly Simple Lutens-esque Bottle and the Notes and the Ad…. I am SWOONING!!!!!
No thought here…. INSTANT, INSTANT Must Buy! No Sniff Needed! This and Valentino Valentina are at the TOP of the list!
OH PRAISE BE TO THE FRAGRANCE GODS!!!!!!!!
Seeing “Coty” made my heart sink a little – really, one of the last true luxury brands in the business can’t use a licensor just a wee bit less mass-market? – but the description of the scent and the fact that Michel Almairac is behind it…well. Officially a must-try.
Also loving the ad. She looks serene and reflective, not dazed, confused, and ready for sexytime.
If this smells anything like Intreccio N1, I’d be lining up so fast… A little disappointed Olivia Giacobetti didn’t do the scent, but excited for this nonetheless!
Somebody says “leather” and all of us freaks come swarming out of the woodwork…
It sounds very, very nice, but I wonder if it will be as good as Cuir de Lancome – and the price is three or four times that of a bottle of CdL at the discounters’.
Just found out that Nine (which I think is Nin-eh, not the number nine) d’Urso is the daughter of the lovely Ines de la Fressange…
in Turkey ?
I just had a spray of this – it is sublime. Dusky, orris-y, suede-y yummy and with a husband-luring sillage. Unfortunately we’re heading into summer here in Sydney, but possibly still FB worthy for me for office and for cooler nights
Robin have you tried this? I just sprayed it at Nordstrom and I need a bottle! Why on earth did I not ask for a sample? Bottega Veneta has definitely jumped to the top of my xmas list. : )
Yes — quite nice — I wouldn’t mind owning it either. Did you see Angie’s review?
I sure did! I wasn’t going to pay much attention to it until I read Angie’s review. I couldn’t believe Nordstrom had it! It’s my one and only want at the moment. SO nice! : )
I bought one last year. I like it.:)
