Versace, which has recently resuscitated its Versace Versus bridge line with a capsule collection by British designer Christopher Kane, has launched the Versace Versus fragrance for women. A previous fragrance under that name is long-discontinued.
“Versus is pure energy. I wanted a perfume which would express the strong contrast of a romantic yet tough femininity. This intense fragrance is dedicated to a woman who loves to dare.” Donatella Versace
This fresh, enveloping fragrance celebrates the numerous moods of femininity, from the punk to the melodious, the gentle to the tough at heart. The notes reflect this contemporary diversity, with the dynamic yet harmonious statement encompassing kumquat, star apple, rose and patchouli.
Additional notes include lemon, orange blossom, stephanotis, musk and ambrette seeds.
Versace Versus for women is available in 50 (£41) and 100 (£58) ml Eau de Toilette, and is currently exclusive to Harrods in the UK. (via harrods)
Update: Versus was developed by perfumer Nathalie Lorson. It will launch in the US in March, and will also be available in 30 ml. (via Women's Wear Daily)
I love Donatella’s intense, tough femininity and her fragrance collection which signals our quarterly day of reckoning. This doesn’t read as especially fierce or punk to me (or dynamic, my favorite non-descriptor), but I will probably ask for some next time I’m in Sak’s. I like the little boxed samples from Versace.
No, it really doesn’t sound especially fierce or punk. We’ll have to see. I do love that outer box (more than the bottle).
More “romantic but TOUGH femininity.” I’m betting there’s not a lot of tough in this, but who knows, right? What’s a bridge line? Is that referring to the couture?
The thing that struck me first is that the box design is really amazing, and it’s hugely disappointing that none of that design was carried through to the bottle, which to me is about as insipid as insipid can be.
That box also looks like something the Dharma Initiative would come up with. The Versace Station?
Julia, my first thought was, “Whoa, Dharma Perfume!” 😀 It looks EXACTLY like the DI signs in LOST! 🙂 I do think it’s cute though.
Agree — box is way more interesting than the bottle.
Bridge line: less expensive than the regular designer line, and often (although not always) meant to appeal to a younger customer. Other examples are Donna Karan’s DKNY range, and Calvin Klein’s CK line. And as you know, in both of those cases the bridge lines have their own separate set of fragrances.
I dunno–the box just looks like a mix between a stop sign and one of those goofy mazes that were popular in first grade. So to me it looks a little “cheap” . The bottle could have been loads better : it’s common and boring. Tough, punk, dynamic? nah.
I do have a hankering to see some dark blue bottles….Maybe Amouage would oblige me in this? ….. I love the Niki de St. Phalle bottles–too bad it gives me the dreaded nose-biting soap note. ….so sad, such a pretty blue bottle.
You crack me up! My association is more Mediterranean / Greek Isles ceramics and architecture (though maybe also Greek diner paper coffee cup???).
I suppose it’s not good to mention to YOU that cobalt Guet-Apens lantern bottle?
Paul & Joe Bleu? That new Isabey blue cloissoine thing? Or just a big cobalt DECANT atomizer. 😉
How about I mention the HUGE price tag on those cobalt Guet Apens bottles??? Paul& Joe?? must go look…..although I do have a bunch of those cobalt blue 10ml atomizers—very pretty….
I know you’re just making recommendations because you worry that I don’t have enough perfume….such a good friend! 😉
Gosh, that Isabey Fleur de whatever bottle is pretty…
that is a pretty bottle….did you see the price? egad! That must be some magic gardenia!
At first I thought this was one of those Versuse Time for _______ releases. The names of some of the Versace frags are a bit confusing. But I used to wear Blonde and White Jeans a lot in my early twenties, and really like Crystal.
I never got to try any of the “time for” scents.
The one in the purple bottle is the nicest – black tea and florals. Hated the bottles though – it wouldn’t stand up at all.
Given Donatellas’ love of perfumes, I would definitely like to try it!
She appears to be quite capable of making pretty bad perfumes despite her own glorious collection 🙂
Oh, good–I was disappointed by the original Versus, now I can be disappointed by this! Yay!!!
(The first one had yummy topnotes of lime lifesavers–one of my weird smell obsessions–but quickly devolved into a boring fruity white floral.)
LOL!
all that citrus on top….. very powerful
ain’t getting my hopes up!
My hopes are only up very rarely 😉
It smells just like Flora by Gucci. Its nice but I wont be needing a bottle. I actually kinda liked the bottle in person. : )
Oh. We did not need another Gucci Flora 😉
We sure didnt. : )
I just smelled this when i was at nordies we just got this in anchorage alaska gosh i need to move to like rodeo drive or somthing to keep up with all the parfums!!!! lol
