Otherland has two candle collections out for the holidays: Adorned and Gilded. From the Adorned set ("inspired by the downtown discothèque, where the silhouettes shimmer with soul, diamonds duet to disco, and glitzy golds galavant with glee....a celebration of a winter wonderland in the grooviest of ways"), Dessert First, with notes of gingersnap, black cardamom and milky tea. $36 for 277g at Otherland. (A number of these collections are reissues. You can see Kevin's review of Black Velvet, Fallen Fir and Old Fashioned, all in the Gilded collection, plus you can still get others he reviewed from older collections: see Rattan, Kindling, Cardamom Milk and Tapestry.)
The daily lemming
A limited edition candle from Panier des Sens: Sweet Madeleine / Madeleine de Noël. "In the winter sunshine, step inside and melt into the sweet scent of a freshly baked madeleine cake. Take a mouth-watering trip down memory lane with the aromas of soft fluffy cake bursting with almond, citrus and a tang of vanilla caramel." 180g for $28 at Panier des Sens US.
The daily lemming
A lemming courtesy of Kevin: a Smoking Tiger and Magpie Incense Burner from Pinch of Clay. "This incense burner includes a tiger + matching dish + and a small box of Nag Champa cone incense. The inspiration came from Korean Minhwa (folk art painting), where a tiger hangs out with a magpie in front of a pine tree. In Korea, almost every tale starts with "Back when tigers used to smoke," instead of "Once upon a time"; $120. For alternatives, see the smaller smoking kitties here and here.
The daily lemming
From Costes, the Golden Candle: "...the iconic candle of the Hotel Costes since 2001, which marks the olfactory imprint of the place, is covered by hand with real gold leaf and comes with a set of mystery matches. A unique and heady scent that captures our senses as soon as we walk through the door. Perfumer Olivia Giacobetti has reinterpreted the olfactory imprint of the Hotel Costes by adding a note of rose to this baroque emanation of precious woods, rum and beeswax." $120 for 250g at Luckyscent.
The daily lemming
From the Winter Charms collection at Cire Trudon, Felice: "A combination of citrusy, spicy and fruity notes, Felice ties citrus and Christmas spices together: hints of vanilla and honey add sweetness to gourmet scents of candied fruits and nutmeg. A true Christmas gift, the Felice scented candle is festive at heart: with a shining star, champagne bottle, sparkling ring and notes of music, celebrations are in order!" $145 for 270g at Trudon.
