Part scientist, part wacky art lady

I think a lot of people would be surprised at the level of detail that goes into every aspect. Candles and fragrance sounds like an art kid’s dream (and it is!) but it’s also extremely technical and requires precision at every level. Every element of our candles is tested regularly and has been fine-tuned over time — plus we’re always thinking about how we can improve. Our fragrances start with my very precise olfactive briefs and our fragrance house brings them to life. I sometimes feel like I’m part scientist, part wacky art lady and I love it.

From Nest, a 3 wick candle in Indian Jasmine: "Immerse yourself in the lush jasmine fields of India with this scented candle featuring an intense jasmine absolute surrounded by bright red berries, sparkling bergamot, and spicy pink pepper." (And yes, there are clearly 4 wicks in the image, so who knows.) 600g for $89 at Nordstrom.

From Scents of Wood, the Bread in Chestnut candle: "An explosion of refined balsams in Scents of Wood's Bread in Chestnut candle brings a golden opulence to the gourmand category. Add to my pile of "want, never going to pay for" lemmings (although as these things go, the price could be much, much worse): the limited edition La Figue candle from L'Artisan. "Handcrafted in France at a renowned French manufacture, this exquisite porcelain candle is adorned with a beautiful hand-painted design. Its captivating fig fragrance encompasses the essence of the tree in its entirety – from its luscious fruit to its leaf and wood. This candle is encased in a limited edition sleeve inspired by the winter herbarium, evoking the essence of the festive season." $280 for 400g at L'Artisan Parfumeur, where you'll also find the candle in L'Ambre, or in a boxed set of both for $560.

From Parfums de Nicolaï, a Christmas Pudding candle: "Christmas pudding is a fruity, spicy treat with soft brioche notes. Reminiscent of a traditional Christmas pudding with custard, the vanilla facets channel the aromatic inflections of berries, grapes and plums. Clove and cinnamon are at the heart of this berry note, with vanilla and caramel coating the flavourful festive scent." 190g for €54.
