PSA: If you live in a daylight savings zone, don't forget to change your clocks! That means it's time for our eighth annual Fall Back poll.
As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else. If it's spring where you live, adjust the questions accordingly.
1. What's the fragrance you'd most like to add to your collection this fall?
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?
3. It's time for a (fantasy) fall getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you.
Note: top image is small glimpse of fall [cropped] by Karon Elliott Edleson at flickr; some rights reserved.
We already fell back last Sunday, though I was in Istanbul when it happened and they no longer change times. I woke up last Sunday two hours ahead of Germany, when I’d been only one hour ahead the night before. I’ll be happy to have North America back on standard time now, though, as I rather like starting work at 2:30 p.m. rather than 1:30.
Forgot to mention yesterday: I actually remembered my rabbits, x2, yesterday, so happy to share. š
Poll questions:
#1: Not sure, honestly. Possibly Hiram Green Shangri-la, which felt somehow just right when I wore it the other day. I want to try some of the new NicolaĆÆs in Paris; maybe one of those.
#2: Pretty much everything I still have is something I have on purpose. (Last year I finally got rid of the one bottle I always said I was voting off.) Maybe Zara Vapeur Blanche, which I rarely reach for (unlike their Leather Jardin)?
#3: I think I’ve already had my fantasy fall getaway(s)! I took Paestum Rose and Sienne l’hiver to northern Italy, wore Phi in Istanbul, and took Jubilation 25 to my overnight on the Rhein. BUT where I really wanted to go was Morocco, so I guess that’d be my real fantasy getaway. (SOMEDAY when I’m not waiting to get my residence permit.) And with LADDM, because I’m literal that way. š
ahhh, laddm! š That’s a perfect pairing for Morroco.
Paestum Rose and Sienne lāHiver in Italy, Phi in Istanbul, and Jubilation 25 on the Rhein -> yes, you’re covered already, that’s perfection.
Happy Saturday! Or tomorrow depending on where you are.
I don’t feel the need to add to my collection at the moment.
Off the island? CK One for All, or Tom Ford White Patchouli. Can’t swap the CK because no one wants it and the Tom Ford because I can’t tell how much is left in the bottle.
Dream getaway? I don’t really feel up to dreaming much but I would like to go to Glacier Park in Montana, and would wear Memoirs of a Trespasser. Then I would visit my sister, whom I haven’t seen in five years. She’s older than me and we have little in common but I would like to see her.
Ohhh, Memoirs would be perfect while sitting around a campfire!
Happy tomorrow!
Ringthing, you may have already tried this but shining a flashlight behind the TF bottle will sometimes illuminate the liquid left.
Ringthing, do you have a postage scale? If so, you could weigh the bottle and try to subtract the weight of the bottle to determine how much perfume is left.
Failing that, shake the bottle to get a guesstimate. An emptier bottle will have a higher pitched sloshing noise than a full-ish one. Unless it’s almost empty; then you won’t hear anything.
Time backed up for me when I was in France and absolutely NO ONE complained about the extra hour of sleep because we were all exhausted. Arizona, which is where Iām at now, doesnāt play with time so no additional adjustments needed.
1. Still havenāt tested Epona so not sure Iād want to add it, but if I did, I would. Otherwise, happy with what Iāve got.
2. I have a couple that could go but Iām not in a huge rush to get rid of them.
3. My fall fantasy just happened and I loved 99.9% of it. Because of the ridiculous 3:1:1 liquid requirements I was only able to take one travel spray with me- CSP Apricot Vanille. Really because most people wonāt complain about that one even if they get a big whiff of it. We had a scent phobe who always wore an N95 when in the lobby areas because all the hotels we stayed at used diffusers of one type or another in the public areas. I loved one scent so much I tried to figure out what it was by asking the receptionist about it, but she didnāt know. Even lifted it to see if there was a label on it but nothing!
Coyotes have been singing me back to sleep the last two nights, which I love. Apropos to nothing, I saw a sign yesterday that said: āClean Dirt- For Saleā which I thought was a rather interesting way of selling dirt. Iām headed up to cold country today so Iām wearing Ummagumma. Happy weekend to all!
āClean dirtā just took me back to my last job, writing lease documents for railcars. One of the first I wrote was for a company that shipped ādirty dirtā (which means slightly radioactive soil) from one place to another. Had to add a lot of testing requirements to the lease. Interesting work, all in all.
Yikes, that sounds like a nightmare! š±
LOL ā writing lease docs? Or working for a company that leases railcars? š I jest ā I assume you mean the shipping of dirty dirt, and yes, itās a bit of a nightmare, but on the plus side the shipper was trying to clean up a site that had seen some mining of radioactive substances. Interestingly (to me, anyway), the lease had been in place for quite some time and there were tons of test results to go through in determining what future use those particular railcars could be put to going forward. I never did learn what was being done with said dirty dirt once it got to its new destination, but I always hoped that someone was doing the right thing with it (whatever that āright thingā might have been).
Yes, the nightmare was radioactive dirtā¦š¬
I was unable to respond to your query last nite re time ashore on river cruises vs ocean cruises. The one I took from Dijon south to Provence had us on land/tours all during each day, with dinner on board as we traveled to the next city at night (not at a great distance from each other). So, yes! Lots of learning opportunities each day with native guides. Couldnāt have been better.
Oh, thanks! Iām looking at one now and considering it. I like the idea of having a āhome base.ā
The Westin Hotel has a great scent throughout their lobby. I found out it is a white tea and you can buy the diffuser and products to go with it on different websites. I thought about purchasing it many times but never did.
I would have bought one on the spot at the first hotel in Bordeaux. It was that good!
So is the best or worst thing about 1-bag travel that you can’t bring home perfume?
You said you bought scarves so I assume you had *some* extra space for shopping š
I did manage to squeeze in one bottle and I also bought a bottle of Nuxe body oil at duty free. I was disappointed in the selection there. The 5 scarves packed down easily. But, because I know myself too well, I also packed a lightweight tote in my backpack for the booty I knew I was going to bring back. š
I had a bit too much fun for Diwali-slow to make it to the farmers market this morning. We are continuing the celebration today and I am in Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud
1. Hmmm…I just added Encens Mythique so I am good for now!
2. Tom Ford Gray Vetiver
3. After being a cowboy for Halloween with my son this year I am picturing a beautiful ranch somewhere with horses, smokey fire, whiskey, hay..sunsets… and bringing the list of fragrances that you all recommended for me to wear to match my cowboy outfit.
Glad Diwali was so much fun and that you get good catch-up sleep eventually š
SOTM is Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin, which was love at first sniff but which I havenāt worn in a while. Lovely stuff.
Poll answers:
Assuming Veeās split goes through, my desire for Bel Respiro will be satisfied. Other than that, I would love to find some vintage Bel Ami in reasonably good shape. My wish list is at an all-time low right now.
Off the island? Probably several things that are stored out of sight, and we all know the result of that ā the only thing that really comes to mind is Flower Bomb, but I know there are others lurking in that box.
Fantasy getaway ā¦ hmmm. Well, since itās fantasy, I will be flying first-class to Tuscany where I will be staying in a beautiful villa in the middle of a vineyard, eating and drinking my way through the local cuisine and wines. The weather will be perfect, of course, and Iāll have a hired car with a gorgeous Italian driver who speaks perfect English and calls me āSignorinaā, even though he knows Iām married.
Forgot to say that the perfume Iād take on that fantasy vacation would, of course, be SMN Eva.
Ha, I am picturing you in the car with the driver now, smelling fantastic.
Going into summer here, so Eau de nĆ©roli dorĆ© and the Terre d’HermĆØs line (especially Eau TrĆØs FraĆ®che and Eau GivrĆ©e) have been my go-to fragrances.
1. BarĆ©nia. It’s the only fragrance that’s truly captivated me lately. But I’m in no rush to get it. I’m more than happy to wait for a good deal on it, say 40-60% off.
2. Probably Dior Homme Parfum which I think I’ve only worn twice in the three years I’ve owned it.
3. Turkey seems alluring. As for a fragrance to take along, maybe Eau des merveilles.
I like Barenia too. I think it is very easy, wearable with a nice dry down
SOTD is Zara Leather Jardin.
QOTD (Question of the Day)-I have never been to a Zara store, but have ordered online and enjoy several of their perfumes. I am just curious what the clothes are like there. I was looking at some blouses on the website last night and they certainly seem reasonably priced. Just wondering if the clothes are good quality.
I know youāre asking about clothes and I donāt have an opinion on them; however, I have a rant about their perfume section which is in front of the checkout AND there are NO TEST STRIPS and it is not clear at all where are the testers. Also, thereās only a few perfumes, not like online.
Oh, that’s too bad since they have so many fragrances.
I’m with you on that. Our local Zara at home has maybe four perfumes out, none of which are ever the ones I want to try, and no good way to try them anyway. I hate buying unsniffed, but at their prices I can occasionally justify it.
I don’t like buying unsniffed either, but I was really only stung on one or two from there so I can’t complain. I love three of the scents I have purchased.
The impossibly stylish Annikky of Life in a Cold Climate wears Zara as well as fabulous designer clothes, so I imagine they can be OK.
https://lifeinacoldclimate.com/
I didn’t search her blog for Zara specifically but IIRC she has discussed it.
Thanks, nozknoz.
I’m not thrilled with Zara as a business, because I believe they are one of the big promoters of “fast fashion” — a constant stream of relatively cheaply made clothing so that last week’s clothes are old news, etc. I realize that it’s still the consumer’s choice of whether to shop there or not, but I don’t like to support businesses that promote that cycle. It’s an environmental nightmare. That said, if you buy clothes there and find something you love that you can wear many times, then go for it!
Iāve had a big change in my clothing purchases since becoming a nomad. Part of it is the paring down required when moving into a small space, part of it is buying clothes that can be used in all temperatures and environments, either by adding layers or removing them. Since I didnāt want to go on vacation looking like a homeless person (as I so often look!) I decided to up my game by getting some ethically sourced merino tops in differing weights, sleeve lengths, and colors. Iām a convert! They are more on the expensive side but when you realize youāll be using them for years, it is a good trade off. I also got a versatile black merino hoodie to layer but forgot it in my camper during a last minute camper storage space shuffle. So, I had nothing other than my merino tops for 14 days. I did buy a blanket scarf while there because I got chilly a couple of times. The tops were wonderful and while very plain, it was easy to dress them up with some beaded bracelets I brought with me and the scarves I bought there. I looked quit stylish! Iāll keep my flannel shirts until they disintegrate and my Columbia sun shirts until they fall apart. I think Iām set for clothes for a good while now! I donāt think people really understand how much plastic is in clothing and how that plastic ends up in the environment and in our bodiesā¦
Yeah, on that last bit. I love fleece garments and try to buy fleece that reuses plastics, but sometimes I have doubts.
Merino is great stuff!
I like their fragrances, so I was just curious. I really don’t mind spending money on clothes, it was just that I happened to look at the website and they didn’t look too bad. I knew people here would have actually been in a Zara store.
My experience with their clothes has been that they last decently. I often see them in the “stylish” consignment store back home, unlike things like H&M, which the shops won’t take. I had a couple of items that I wore for multiple years. They do want you to continually come in and buy new clothes, like all fast fashion, but their fabrics are generally decent and you *can* wear them for longer if you like. Ockeghem Teen had a lot of their kid clothes when she was little, and they were pretty durable and fairly stylish (I still fondly remember a tutu skirt and sweater she had when she was 1).
Thanks so much for your sharing your experience.
Iāve a,ways fancied doing the great rail journeys across Australia. The Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin via Alice Springs, right up through the centre but also some of the other trips like the Southern Brisbane to Adelaide or the Great Indian, a Sydney to Perth. Iāve also always wanted to see Lake Eyre when there is water and the birds come in. I think that would be incredible. We used to have a decent train service in NZ when I was young but now there isnāt an inter-city, daily serviceā¦everything that remains is more tourist focussed ( expensive ) rather than just transport. I can remember going on CP rail from Banff to Jasper, and of course the many European trains ā¦Germany had fantastic weekend discounts on slow trains. Wearing Overture again. Yesterday we had hail, rain and a smidge of snow but today looks fine but crisp. Oh, I saw Conclave. Iād read the book which removed all the suspense and unexpected twists but Ralph Fiennes was good, the dialogue was good ( same screenwriter as Tinker, Tailor Soldier Spy with Gary Oldman as Smiley) , some beautiful shots and framing. Isabella Rossellini made a great nun. Only Stanley Tucci failed to deliverā¦he was just Stanley Tucci in cardinalās costume. A good movie though. Very close to the book.
Thank you for the movie review! I pay so little attention to movies now but that sounds worth seeing.
Thanks for reporting on the movie!
https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2024-10-24/conclave-review-ralph-fiennes-john-lithgow-stanley-tucci-vatican
This pretty much sums it up
I just returned home from seeing Conclave, and I agree with your review! I really liked it, and think it’s worth people’s hard earned mooney, and time. There were only four people in the theatre, including me š
SOTM was Adam Levine, now i sprayed Wazamba
1. i would like a FB of Dryad, maybe if my decant is used upā¦
2. i could part with vintage Shalimar, because it is so NOT me, sadly
3. if i could flee the colder temps, i would love to go on the Canary islands again, Memoire d une Odeur would be a good choice
now off to see Philip Boa and the Voodoo Club, i never saw them, hope it will be fun.
andā¦ have you listened to the new The Cure album, it is really very good!
Yes! I’m loving the new Cure album!
I’ve heard a new single from The Cure. It is rather good!
I had the strangest scent experience. There is a wonderful cafe near me that has French-California food. I ordered a toasted cheese and mushroom sandwich there recently and had difficulty eating it because it tasted great except there was one element that smelled was exactly athletic clothes that someone soaked with sweat around noon and hasn’t changed out of by evening. I was like, how can they not know?!
I went back to the same cafe with a friend a week later. She ordered the same sandwich, which smelled the same way to me, and declared it the most delicious sandwich she had ever eaten.
So clearly it is MY nose that is hypersensitive to some specific French cheese aroma chemical.
Also Hermes Barenia smells like Galop to me at first, but then the woody amber grows and grows and grows until it becomes unbearable to my nose. š
Finally, speaking of Miffy, who featured yesterday, the most adorable wristwatches in the world are the Miffy Moonphase watches by De Rijke & Co.
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-miffy-moonphase-a-bauhaus-inspired-bunny-watch
If that’s not enough cuteness, Revolution Magazine collaborated with De Rijke & Co. on a double moonphase and a commemorative pink and charcoal version.
Various links to the Revolution versions:

Last time I checked, only the gray and pink one was not yet sold out. De Rijke & Co mostly does limited editions, so you need to watch their Instagram to see what they are up to.
Nice that they did a double moon phase. Itās always a bit frustrating when you live in the southern hemisphere .
Do you think your cheese had caraway or cumin in it? Or was it a soft cheese like Brie that can also smell sweaty?
I love brie, cumin, and caraway. (And even cilantro!) I’d never met a cheese I really disliked before. I think the menu said the sandwich had four different cheeses, some of which were rare or special. I hope this was the rare one!š
I wonder if it could have been Munster ( from Alsace). That is really smelly when ripe, can almost make you gag
Thanks for mentioning that. I think of Munster as a mild cheese, but there could be quite a range of aging techniques. But whatever it was, the restaurant owners (who are real connoisseurs) and my friend thought it smelled wonderful. š
Limburger cheese is rather odiferous. Could it have been something like that?
I’m in Opus XV King Blue from Amouage.
1. I still haven’t smelled ComĆØte from Chanel, but of course I want it in my collection.š
2. Why I still have my bottle of Gucci Guilty Pour Homme is beyond me; I don’t like it, I don’t wear it, and it’s just taking up space. (Guilty Absolute Pour Homme is a different matter entirely. Love that one.)
3. I’d fly first class to Paris, and stay in some fancy hotel. I’d eat fabulous food, drink otherworldly wine, and wear Cuir de Russie Parfum from Chanel.
I recently bought a sample of Comete from Shop France, or else I’d sure join in Vee’s Splitmeet offering. I think if one likes the Chanel “vibe” overall, Comete is sure to please.
MossyBerry, I just tried a sample of Comete-I was sure I’d love it but found it too sweet for me. Maybe I’ll try it on another day and see if the sweet effect was a momentary thing. I was sure I’d love it, and really wanted a bottle-but I’ll wait and see. Daniel I hope you get to try it and share your thoughts.
Iāve been wearing Alahine today and loving it.
1. Maybe a decant of Carnal Flower. Iām still searching for my holy grail tuberose.
2. Hmmm. Calvin Klein Secret Obsession and EL Sensuous are both in the purgatory box right now and one (or both) might have to go.
3. Scotland, in a crofterās cottage by a little burn. A little whiskey by the fire after a day of hiking and the smokiness of Encens Flamboyant as an accompaniment.
I do like Sensuous but I rarely reach for it. Reminding myself to reach for it next week…
I used to wear it regularly and enjoy it so it will certainly be given another chance. Now if I could only stop the little gold nozzle thingy from falling off. Canāt get it to stay on no matter what I try and that makes it difficult to control the amount sprayed!
We spent August in Scotland over the summer. One of my favorite places to hike and relax
Nice!!
SOTD = Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit
š§” it is so good. It seems to lasting a little bit longer now!

And hereās my Caturday contribution. I love Fall!

In other news, 49 out of 50 mini treats were taken. There must have been about 5 groups of kids plus one older set. Overall, a pretty good showing!
I have to get cracking on my Splitmeet offering shortly!
Glad you had a decent showing of Trick or Treaters this year!
SOTD is the original EL Sensuous edp, perfect for a cool but šday. Despite several extremely windy days earlier this week, we still have some trees hanging onto their leaves and some nice autumn color here.
1. Not really looking to add anything perfumewise right now.
2. The original JāAdore, which I won back in the pre-Macy days when Marshall Fieldās had some wonderful perfume get-togethers, it just never did it for me. I still try it every now and then, but my reaction is always the same; I donāt really care for it..
3. We just had our fall getaway that I posted about yesterday; it couldnāt have been more perfect! And the YR Nature Millenaire that accompanied me – woody, ambery, spicy – couldnāt have been more perfect either, even down to its autumn-leaf shaped and colored bottle.š.
And just to continue this weekās cp theme of ā®ļø , hereās a video from one of the fantastic musicians, Calum Graham, at last nightās concert. I love the finger style/percussive acoustic guitar style, especially when you can sit just a few feet away from the performer and watch those fingers fly. Read the description on the background of this music – happiness, healing, peace – itās fascinating! š¶
https://youtu.be/dfFNRoIhg1M?si=is621lSel7uPcl1z
Thank you for the video…so relaxing!
Happy weekend!
Sotd is Guidance 46. Glorious stuff.
1. Gourmands are calling my name (have they ever not?) so I want: Tauer Heraud and Imaginary Authors Dipped in Chocolate.
2. I love/like pretty much everything in my collection but if I have to choose, maybe Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato. It is synthetic and plastic leaning on the notes so it doesn’t smell the most authentic and feels slightly cheap/childish.
3. Scottish Highlands. I have never been to Scotland and from what I read, aurora is a possibility! I’d bring Hermes Vetiver Tonka for that cozy fall vibe.
Ha, the exact two I got in the splitmeet š
Up early this morning thanks to my internal time clock still being off track. It was a brisk 39F in the camper when I woke up but by the time I boiled water for coffee and toasted some sourdough it warmed up a bit. Doggo still hasnāt deigned to get out of bed, not even for the smell of toasting sourdough.
Wearing Profvmvm Ambra Aurea to celebrate the brisk weather! Iām also sporting my blanket scarf so now the entire thing will smell delicious until I wash it. Planning a very lazy Sunday with a hike in the woods if it doesnāt rain, then just fiddling about doing some little maintenance things on the camper. I sanitized the tanks again on my first day back and will need to get some propane at some point this week because the forecast is for lows down in the 20ās so Iāll have to turn on the heat to make sure the water pipes donāt freeze. I think I missed autumn altogether this year. Even in France it was warmer than usual. I saw vary little color variation among the trees there, but that may be normal for the SW of France which is more temperate? š¤·š»āāļø
More coffee is in my immediate future! āļøš„°
I think Autumn may have skipped out this year in certain parts of the US. Didn’t see typical temps here.
SOTD is Indochine. I really love this scent. I can see why so many people have purchased a BUB.
Have a good Sunday!
My bottle is almost gone and thatās saying something! Glad youāre loving it.š
So do you have a BUB?
No, and I donāt think Iāll get one, not because itās not a fabulous scent but because I have enough OTHER bottles to get through.
LOL š¤£
Are you thinking about a BUB for Indochine?
I don’t think so, but I really do like it.
1. Fragrance you’d most like to add: I just bought the two Hiram Green’s that I had been wanting, so I am set for now.
2. One perfume off the island: Arquiste Indigo Smoke. Calypso loved it, and we have similar tastes, but it’s just not for me. Thank heavens I only bought the travel size.
3. Where are you going on a fantasy getaway: I am going to Paris in my fantasy, but I’m not wearing any perfume because I will be going to all the perfume houses I love and spraying the testers.
It’s not raining today (yet) so I am going outside, wearing Givenchy Amarige Harvest Mimosa 2009. I got this in a swap here a long time ago and I love it so much.
Loving your fantasy getaway idea! š«š· How was Japan and travels with your sister? You may have already said and I missed itā¦when I was on vacay I asked the guide if she knew of any companies that offered tours of perfumeries or really anything perfume related since perfume seems to be synonymous with France. I donāt understand why this isnāt a thing? I mean, we explored chateauās, wines, cheeses, culture, caves, the history of SW France going back to the Visigoths and Romans, youād think they could throw in a perfumery or something to do with perfume for goodness sake! š
You would think so!
Japan was wonderful but exhausting; my Fitbit said I walked more than 80 miles EACH WEEK. My sister had a good time but is so much more frail than when I saw her last, and I am older than she is! I bought no perfume, and didn’t wear any, either. I did buy a bottle of nail polish so that when I wear Magnetic Marigold ( a golden yellow) I will think of Tokyo.
Thatās a lot of miles! Good for you š¤š¼Magnetic Marigold sounds fun. š
I’m wearing Shalimar-drop of parfum, plus a top up with a lovely leather-y EDC. I went and saw the movie Conclave, which I really liked. Yesterday I got my hair cut and coloured, and a pedicure. The new OPI colours to go with the Arianna Grande movie are fantastic-I think the movie is called Wicked (?). All the estheticians liked the colours a lot.
Now I have to attack a project for a charity I work with-I’ve put it off long enough-time to complete it, and sort of check it off my mental to do list. I procrastinate too much-if it was an Olympic sport I’d win gold. I’ll put something in the oven to cook while the kitten wrecks havoc (she landed in the toilet today-it was clean-she misjudged her landing) and hopefully in a couple of hours I’ll have all of this stuff done.
Cheers to all the organized people out there-wish I had some organizational skills š
poor wet kitten! š¹ Kitty chaos is so much fun.
You smelled wonderful in Shalimar I’m sure. The EdC is my favorite. š
I had to laugh when I heard about your kitten’s misadventures!
Once upon a time, Spooky kitty also landed in the toilet. She was paying too much attention to me, and not enough to her surroundings. SOMEONE who is not me left the lid up on the toilet…
I’m popping by on my Monday evening to try again with the comment I managed to lose yesterday morning!
1. I’ve always got a few things on my buy list. Top of the list is Immortelle from Manos Gerakinis. It’s been on the list since I got a sample 18 months ago, so I’m clearly not rushing into it š .
2. Vote off the island – nope! I’ve got a couple that I not sure about, but I need to think about them for a few years yet.
3. My trip next April is becoming more reality than fantasy. I’m travelling with my sister-in-law again, and our trip has got a bit more extensive than I’d expected. We’re starting with a couple of days in Sydney for my beloved’s son’s wedding, then we’re off to Rome, Malta, Florence, Nice and London, then back through Bangkok. I’m starting to write my list of things to sniff.
Your wedding trip plans sound delightful. Congratulations to you and your son and your family! ā¤ļø
Oh, Iām having travel envy! Starting off with a wedding and then gallivanting around the globe sounds fabulous! Congrats to you son and his soon to be wife.
sotd = Roger & Gallet Lavande Royale
This is my favorite woody lavender scent. It’s a very old 200 ml bottle, and it smells great, much better than the reformulation. I’ve been wearing it every day since November 1st. It’s a fortifying, feel-good scent for me. š
My other favorite lavender is Bogue MEM, which is very different, very sweet. šÆš I have a sample of MEM that I will wear later today.
MEM, Tam Dao, and CdG Avignon have been on my perpetual wishlist for years. My last FB purchase was Luci ed Ombre in May of 2020. That’s a pretty long no buy streak that I’m not quite ready to break.
I don’t have any bottles to let go of currently. All my unworn bottles were rehomed a few years ago. I should send my old bottle of OdlR Oscar off the island, but I love to sniff it even though I can’t wear it. It gives me a headache if I wear it.
Fantasy vacation for me would be on an island where I could spend weeks in one place, my toes always in the sand, my hair salty, and my body tired out from swimming and beach combing. Any suggestions? š
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and has a marvelous Monday. š
Gosh, I’ll take weeks on an island, possibly ANY island.
Lolita Lempicka again. Got a bottle made in 2016 from ebay per the batch code, it is good stuff. It is less sweet than the samples I was using from fragrancenet. And I like both! So I bought a bottle of the new version from Jomashop. It hasn’t arrived yet but i will be comparing when it arrives.
1. What’s the fragrance you’d most like to add to your collection this fall?
I am going to cheat and say Lolita Lempicka, since i just added it.
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?
DKNY Golden Delicious. I really liked the floral freshness of DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom, and i started thinking oh I should try Golden Delicious. It is like a stronger J’Adore, and I am not a fan. Was worth a shot, but it is on its way to Goodwill.
3. It’s time for a (fantasy) fall getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you.
I would go to NYC, and I would bring Chanel Boy. Cause it is so nice in cool weather and it isn’t something everyone is wearing.
Do report back when you get the new Lolita Lempicka! I am very curious.
Cuir de Nuit today. Had some rain and sleet yesterday but itās blasting sunshine like a ray gun today with temps in the high 40ās. š T-Rex is out sunbathing in a little pine needle filled hollow. I missed her so much when I was gone! Cannot tell you how happy I am to see her relaxed and happy, with her belly up to get some sunā¦š„°
Sounds like T-Rex is back to her happy-go-lucky self now that she’s back with you.
I think sheās mostly glad to crawl under the covers. Sheās a dog who likes certain luxuries, including a bed with pillows and soft blankets. I did leave a blanket there for her when I dropped her off in the hopes it would make her feel a bit more secureā¦
I’m in Amour de Cacao today. I wore it on the weekend, both days as well. It’s been making me sneeze upon spraying though, so I’m not sure what is causing it.
1. I’d still like to add Zara Romance d’Iris. Still waiting for it to come back into stock; if it ever will. It would be a blind buy, but I think it’s pretty safe.
2. I might vote off Guerlain Terracotta. I never wore it all summer, but it was almost to hot for it. Might have to try it now that it’s cooler out.
3. My fall getaway would be one of the Hawaiian islands, probably Kauai. I’d probably take my bottle of Bronze Goddess to spray lavishly.
It’s worth trying Terracotta in colder weather if it was too much in the summer.
We have a few colder days coming up, so I’ll have to pull it out.
BWFs on a snowy day can be gorgeous, IMO.
Gail-Don’t you come to the US during the winter? I was thinking it was you. If so, you could order Romance d’Iris on the US website when you were here if it doesn’t get to Canada. However, I have been watching the Canadian website and it says, “coming soon”.
We won’t be doing the trip this year.
1. I’m dying to get Arquiste L’Or de Louis. Highest quality exquisite orange blossom scent with depth.
2. Off the island, hmmm. I’ve got more than one to offload! I’ll say for here Tom Ford Santal Blush. It got to a stage of smelling sickly sweet and a bit plasticky on me.
3. Fantasy getaway trip for fall: Korea, where fall always looks so gorgeous in my k-dramas. To scent it, something a bit on the delicate side. Is there a scent with a persimmon note?
On another topic, can friends here please recommend their favorite perfumes with a myrrh note? I want to explore this more. My SOTD is Perris Monte Carlo Patchouli Nosy Be. It’s rich, dark and no shrinking violet! Just like me, ha ha!
I really like Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka, the original Kate Walsh “Boyfriend” perfume, Agent Provocateur L’Agent, and TM Alien Essence Absolue. But a couple of those are Unobtainium.
Wish I would have picked up a bottle of the now discontinued Dior Eau Savage Parfum with the all black label.
Heeley Eau Sacree is gorgeous, but I don’t have any.
Thanks for all the ideas!
One that I absolutely love is Hermes Myrrhe Eglante. I keep thinking about getting a set of the travel sprays so I could get a smaller size in it. I think it is gorgeous.
Woke up at five a.m. and now I am struggling to stay awake until bedtime, I know it will only delay my time adjustment if I nap. Actually, I’d like to fall asleep this afternoon and wake up in about 10 days, to avoid all the election hoopla. But I’m all out of magic sleeping potions, so afternoon coffee is at hand. I’m wearing the beautiful Sonoma Scent Studios Champagne de Bois. Since Laurie retired, I never hear about this brand anymore.
You smell wonderful.
Ditto about Sonoma Scent Studios. I think of Laurie fairly regularly and wonder how she is..? Iād like to get another travel size of Equestrian and my 15ml bottle of Tabac Aurea is getting low, but not even sure if theyāre still available. Iāll have to check it out. Thereās no social media presence at all. And we are jet lagged, time twisted twins!
The SSS website still looks like how I remembered it. Pretty sure Equestrian is back in the stable of perfumes. Dunno about Tabac Aurea, though.
I’m still a little discombobulated from the time change late Saturday/ early Sunday. But yesterday was really bad. I felt like I just couldn’t wake up. On the plus side, there was a lovely soaking rain in the area last night. No snow that I am aware of.
To the poll!
1. New perfume(s)? Currently eyeing 3 travel sprays from Fzotic: Feu Secret, POOF!, and Vetiverissimo. Love the fact that those are available now.
2. Off the island? Smell Bent’s Bollywood or Bust. It’s a thin rose/sandalwood perfume that doesn’t play nice with me.
3. Fantasy Fall getaway? This would have to happen earlier in the season, but I’d ride the Cumbres and Toltec narrow gauge railway to view the aspens turning gold in the high country. This historic rail line jumps between Colorado and New Mexico several times over the length of its trip.
SOTD = vintage CK Obsession Cologne, thanks to AnnE! Perfect weather for it today; it’s chilly!
Oh, I did that railway last fall and it was so worth it! Hope you go on a stupendously beautiful fall day! I think itās the longest narrow gauge railway in existence at this point.
I think you started this travel lemming!
Your getaway sounds like fun!
I had a lot of fun seeing the Big Boy steam engine last month, so riding a whole narrow gauge train would be even better!
I started the day in SL De Profundis because it seemed like a profound week if there ever was one.
1. I have indulged myself with a couple of fragrances that have been on the wish list: Ormonde Man and Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Mai. There are always more…Chanel 22, Oeilleres…
2. A newish version of Sisley Eau de Campagne. What were they thinking with this reformulation???
3. Paris, always Paris. But maybe closer to home, NYC. Perfume shopping of course, good food, walking, etc.
NYC is one place I have never been to and I would love to go perfume shopping there. My husband says I wouldn’t like it there, but he went there years ago on business.
Wouldn’t it be fun to have an NYC/NST sniffapalooza?!
NYC in September is lovely! There are also some luxe suburban malls that are a relatively easy drive from there in PA and NJ.
All of that sounds fun!
