Wednesday scent of the day 11/22
It’s Hump Day and National Cranberry Relish Day. (Plus, Thanksgiving Eve aka Drinksgiving / Blackout Wednesday — be careful out there!) Birthdays: Abigail Adams, André Gide, Hoagy Carmichael and Billie Jean King. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m doing pre-Thanksgiving chores in an old-but-not-quite-forgotten friend, Comme des Garçons Kyoto, and sending gratitude to the very kind reader who sent me some. (And I’m taking community project points since I’ve been waiting for eons for Comme des Garçons to do travel sizes.)
Reminder: on 11/24, pick your Black Friday poison…
Gatekeeping my perfume
But it’s difficult to ignore that lately, “gatekeeping” is being used increasingly in the context of perfume. On TikTok, the phrase “gatekeeping my perfume” has 32.7 million views and counting. A quick scroll serves up videos in which perfume lovers are reluctant to divulge the name of their signature scent, while a handful of others question the notion of keeping it under wraps.

The daily lemming
A "Festive Holiday" candle trio from Parfums de Marly: "Winter Woods evokes the burning intensity of dark woods in the roasted facet of oil of cade, a textured leather accord, and enchanting guaiac wood. True to its name, Spiced Delight expresses notes of honey and cinnamon on a heart of amber combined with vanilla and tonka bean. Royal Pine, is like a promenade through the aromatic freshness of pine and cedar; two majestic, raw and intense woods that set on a warm base of cashmere and patchouli." Three x 75g, $150 at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Dillards, Saks, Harrods, Selfridges.
