PSA: If you live in a daylight savings zone, don't forget to change your clocks tonight! That means it's time for our seventh annual Fall Back poll.
As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else. If it's spring where you live, adjust the questions accordingly.
1. What's the fragrance you'd most like to add to your collection this fall?
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?
3. It's time for a (fantasy) fall getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you.

We’ve already changed our time a week ago in Poland. It always makes the day feel weird, doesnt it?
1. Lately I got reminded that Daimiris (Laboratorio Olfattivo) exists and it would be lovely for fall. Also I’m curious about Iris Pallida from Guerlain and Nicolai Iris Medicis (exclusive to their boutiques)
2. B683 from Barrois, simply not wearing it at all.
3. I’m craving someplace in Italy again.
Sotd is Winter Palace.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CzN_zkYoDSv/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Italy is always a good choice
I love Winter Palace, super impressed with this one
I have heard Nicolai Iris Medicis is lovely. I have a decant coming thanks to Vee and the split meet. I am sure others will be reporting on this.
Good to see you posting!
Too bad we don’t live closer! I’m a fan of B683 and it’s my answer for question 1.
I hope you can swap it for something you love.
1. I don’t have anything on my wish list right now that I have actually sniffed, BUT I am eager to get my hands on a sample of Aftelier Hey Jude.
2. I have a number of things that I got unsniffed and have never really warmed up to, or that I used to like but don’t care for as much anymore, so it would be hard to single out one in particular. I have been divesting myself of unloved bottles, and so far, I have not really missed any of those that I have given away.
3. Maybe Japan, so I can check out some more of the “not sold in the US” Shiseido perfumes, and besides, Japan seems like a fascinating place to visit.
I want to try Hey Jude too!
Good morning- our first dry weekend in NYC – it’s been 9 weeks
SOTD is Cristalle
1. I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️ Talk to me after I smell those new Guerlains 😂
2. All my perfumes are staying put. That’s an order
3. I am wearing beautiful sweater that is from Scotland 🏴 I would go there and sip scotch and wear all my tartan clothing and since I am wearing Cristalle maybe bring that. Or Le Lion? And one spicy perfume to match the smoke in what I am drinking.
About the answer to the first question- besides the new Guerlains I saw you can get some archive collection scents from Jo Malone. Is there anything that stands out? I like the idea of Vanilla & Anise
That one was good. I really liked Vintage Gardenia. That was one of them that sent me down the rabbit hole. I don’t know that they brought that back.
That wasn’t on the list. Here are the ones.
Redcurrant & Cream
Blue Agava & Cacao
Wisteria & Lavender
Hemlock & Bergamot
White Jasmine & Mint
Vanilla & Anise
French Lime Blossom
Nutmeg & Ginger
I really liked Blue Agava & Cacao and French Lime Blossom.
LOL at #2!
I hope you’re having a lovely weekend!
Don’t throw things at me for this, but I love the time changes! Especially this one, but I even love the spring-forward change. It’s partly for the variety, and partly for the ritual. And maybe partly that I’m just perverse.
SOTD is Agar Ebene. I have the travel spray size, which could easily last the rest of my natural life. Nevertheless, it’s near the top of the list of FBs likely to join my collection in the coming year. Its nearest rival on that atm is Rêve en Cuir, about which I have been waffling for several months.
But for purposes of the poll, the fragrance I’d most LIKE to add (although it’s unlikely) is vintage Bel Ami in the cocktail shaker bottle. Such a unique and gorgeous perfume.
Voting off the island? I guess that would have to be IA Yesterday Haze. Loved it just long enough to acquire a travel spray, and I don’t think I’ve worn it since.
Fantasy fall getaway? Right now I’m really enjoying the conditions here in the PNW, so I’ll stick close to home and book a long weekend at Skamania Lodge, take walks in the woods, spend lots of time in front of a fireplace with a good book, maybe get a massage. It’s a toss-up whether Agar Ebene or Dryad would come with me.
I don’t mind the time change either
I love the “fall back” time change, but hate springing forward. It is not changing the settings on the clocks that bothers me, as that only takes a few minutes, but making everything soooo early. When you are a natural night owl (like me) being forced into an already too early work schedule, moving it yet another hour earlier is torture. The best thing about being retired is being able to go to sleep and wake up when my body wants to, not when someone else wants me to.
I’m the same, and though I’m also retired, I still like that extra hour of sleep in the morning. It makes me sleep in and still feel like I’m getting a good start to my day!
Me too about the time changes. It’s like travel, except your companions are the whole country. Waking up at a different hour is something new, no? You see the world a little differently when your circadian rhythm is slightly knocked askew.
Yesterday Haze was a little too woody for me. About the only Imaginary Authors scent I really like is Fox in the Flowerbed.
*** FREEBIE ALERT ***
OK, this time I have my email address correct. Please note that the alphabetic part precedes the numbers in my email (the opposite of my screen name). I will ship within the CONUS only. I have available for free, to a good home, the following:
Vintage Gres Cabochard EdT. I don’t know its exact age, but it was among my grandmother’s things when she passed away in 1983. I just haven’t been able to love this one, but I would like to keep a little of it along with the bottle, so I will offer decants up to 50 mL total. I can decant into the following types of vials:
5 ml clear glass spray
10 ml clear glass spray
15 ml cobalt glass spray
30 ml amber glass splash
SJP Covet, 10 mL EdP spray. Received in swap. Cannot tell the exact amount left, as the container is opaque, but seems to be fairly full.
Fendi Theorema, 30 mL EdT spray, between 15 and 20 mL remaining (more than half, not quite 2/3 full). Bought this second hand.
Crown Perfumery Crown Bouquet, 50 mL EdP spray, full, bought second hand, unknown age.
Anyone who is interested, please contact me at Roses_50 in the land of yahoo to work out details. I need to weed out from my collection those things that I do not and will not wear.
Theorema has been claimed.
Covet has been claimed.
Happy weekend everybody! ☺️
1. Guerlain’s new Tonka Sarrapia! It smells SO good. Following closely is YSL Babycat. Very lovely stuff.
2. Goodbye YSL Parisienne. Bought it thinking it smelled nice enough and the bottle was pretty but in all honesty, quite boring. It’s been downgraded to room freshener status so not gonna miss it… 👋
3. I would love to go to Athens, Greece! What scent other than Philosykos? Fig is the food of the Gods, Zeus would approve.
Zeus approved ⚡️⚡️⚡️
1. Not really hankering for anything at the moment. If I DID hanker, I probably wouldn’t buy it unless it came in a travel size. A SPRAY travel size. Why is there no emoji perfume bottle?!
2. I have a few that could go but the first would probably be Hermes Hiris. I just don’t reach for it and there is something in the dry down that begins to faintly annoy me. However, I looked long and hard to find a new-in-box cobalt bottle when Hermes switched to the new packaging. Finally found one and it shipped all the way from Israel and took forever. So, I’ve kept it because of that, which is a ridiculous reason, but there you go. 🤷🏻♀️
3. I am on a “fall getaway” right now and have all my perfumes with me, so that answers that question! It would be a real fantasy if I never had to go back to work! 😀
Wearing 7 Virtues Vetiver of Haiti today. Got up to 83F yesterday. Probably up to 90F over the next couple of days, which is just heinous imo. 👎🏼
It’s 54 here. I will trade you!
Yes, let’s trade! I saw this and thought of you.
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyzHQkUPPsL/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Yep that’s me! Except I would be wearing gloves!
Got a couple of degrees up on lillyjo, but I would happily take the +10 degrees that you offered yesterday. It’s chilly and gloomy here.
I’ll be offering for the next 2-3 days, then it’s supposed to cool off again. Wish I could direct the heat your way.☀️
And I would gladly send you some of the chill!
I’ve been digging out my heavy wool socks for the past few days.
Can’t think of anything to add and nothing ever gets voted off chez Marzipan it just gets “borrowed “ by someone in my family ( my elderly parents and three children). Not interested in travel , I live in the best place possible for gorgeous Autumn foliage. SOTD commando because my middle one is moving out and she took the shelving unit I had in the basement to store all my bottles and I am just too darn lazy to weed through the boxes where my bottles are temporarily stored. Maybe I’ll scent my shins like Jalapeño ❤️❤️
Don’t forget the tops of your feet!
yes m’am 🙂
Both my calves and shins are scented today. 😉
😀😀😀😀
Wearing Mac Ruby Woo and. Depeche Mode shirt..I think this is a good combo:)
Fragrance I would like to add? I just added Chanel 1957, I am good for a while lol.
Off the island hmmm…get back with me later LOL
I will do Fiji and why not, do Virgin Island Water as I am not feeling creative in my answer haha (but I don’t own that scent so, someone will get it for me ahead of time) lol.
Depeche Mode is my daughter’s favorite band. I’m getting her a couple of t-shirts for Christmas.
Lol Hot Topic had a very cool Faith & Devotion hoodie for a while..and yeah, I am a little old to be placing an order from them but screw it, I got one lol
I’m hoarding my last few mls of Ruby Woo,this was such a pretty fragrance!
I usually get compliments when I wear. Once I was testing Ruby Woo on one arm but was already wearing Tresor..for whatever reason, this combo got a big like haha.
Going to see Depeche Mode next weekend!
Nice! Tickets are so expensive though! Ugh
Oh, I’ll be in the nosebleed section, LOL!
Me: Hey, Robin just reminded me that we have to set our clocks back tonight.
My husband: Robin?
Me: Yeah. Robin. On NST.
MH: On NST? Your friend Robin?
Me: Something kind of like that.
💙 🌈🌞🤭😂
I’m in Mandy Aftel’s Hey Jude. It’s okay. I prefer her Wild Roses. I have the parfum, one of her minuscule minis. Won’t need a full bottle.
It is a beautiful, sunny fall day out. Looking forward to keeping it fun and stress free.
Ahaha – I laughed so hard about this. Husbands! But yes, I do think of Robin as a friend. An internet and perfume friend who kindly reminds us about our clocks along with many other kind things! 😀
That is so funny. My husband would say the same thing 😃
Of course I am your friend! Who else will remind you to set your clocks back AND tell you when it’s Bob Dylan’s birthday? All the really important things 🙂
Good to know about Hey Jude, I think that’s the first report I’ve seen.
Mostly offline this weekend visiting family, heading out to my mother’s funeral shortly, wearing Bal à Versailles in her honor.
Hugs , and fragrant hugs 🤗
Thinking of you, my friend. 💙
Hugs to you.
Hugs!!
🌹🌹🤗🤗
Hugs to you.
Sending some love your way.
Sending a big hug. ♥
Sending hugs, how fitting to wear your mother’s perfume.
So sorry to hear. Hope the perfume brings you some comfort
💐
Big hugs!
Hugs to you!
I am so sorry. I hope you have peace with her passing and there are silver linings in the days ahead. xxoo
Sending more hugs😊
🫶🏻
Adding my hugs, cazaubon.
You are probably all hugged out by now. We are all thinking of you cazaubon!
Even if you are all hugged out, I am sending one more. You are welcome to keep it in reserve.
Huggggs!!🥺
Another scented hug.
I hope your day brought some smiles and good memories. Sending lots of love
More hugs. The day after is always hardest for me. Wishing you peace.
Here’s one more gentle hug for you, cazaubon. Take care.
Hope the funeral was a lovely tribute to your mom and some measure of comfort to you.
My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
SOTD is Shalimar MI.
1. I would like to purchase Mitsouko, but curious if people prefer the perfume or EDT. Comments?
2. I don’t think I have any to vote off the island at the moment, though for the first time TF Black Orchid was wearing me the other day. Maybe I just sprayed too much.
3. I think I will pass on the fall getaway as there is not any place I really want or need to go right now. That way I can be home with all my perfumes!
I really don’t catch that much of a difference between the different iterations of Mitsouko’s basic dna,and I basically have them all, from vintage parfum and parfums de toilette to a superfresh bottle in the new packaging. Some smell fresher and some are chockfull of the holy grail chypre-trinity.But they all smell great to me.
Thanks JB. Good to know!
TF Black Orchid is a challenging perfume for me most of the time. No flowers on me at all.
11 hours sleep!
Post shower I think volutes or something I haven’t reached for in a while.
One bottle I want – Dior Tobacolor. Why did I not get this in Paris while buying Gris?
Off the island…Indigo Smoke. Doesn’t sit well.
Travel to Rwanda or Uganda for gorillas!
September 2025
Think I will get project offer next week. Interview yesterday went really well.
Then I can buy Tobacolor!
Hope you get the job! And gorillas! So cool! 🦍
Yep, cool. Expensive to go see them. The permit alone is 1500 per person per day. Guess I will just keep working.
The project is at a major studio. Since I have so much studio experience, they are interested.
Fingers crossed!
I like the idea of wearing Volutes today and think I’ll do that once I’ve showered.
Funny about Indigo Smoke, because it’s my new Holy Grail perfume! I think I’ve worn it at least every other day since I bought it this past summer.
I wanted to love it….but it didn’t love me back.
Happy Weekend!
We did the one emergency case and that was it for today.I at least had time to run some errands and meetup with the geyser-repair guy at home,so that’s sorted!
SOTD!
Shalimar in my favorite edc version of it.
Poll:
1.)The fragrance(s) I’d like to add most are either the Off White 15mlx4 discovery set,Kilian Smoking Hot,and possibly the Thameen Bravi I’ve been raving about.I’ve also never gotten round to adding Memo Sintra to the collection and I would love to have a fb.
2.)Voting off…Guerlain L’Instant and/or Tocade…they share some odd dna in the vanilla-rose notes,I’m not sure what it is but both of them have started to bother me immensely and I simply don’t reach for them anymore(I can add Ralph Lauren Notorious as well, luckily I only have a 30ml of this one…)
3.)I need to be on a beach somewhere ASAP.I’m longing for beach sand between my toes, crashing waves and that salty air!
Hope everyone has time to chill and recharge!
XO’s🌹✌🏻
Glad you got the rest of the day free JB!
It was cold and grey here this morning, and I immediately started thinking about the Caribbean…and it’s only November. I am in trouble. So I join you in the beach idea!
Let’s goooo!!!
One of my friends is a chef on a Disney cruiseship,he sends me regular pics of the next port of call and the next and the next…Cozumel and the Virgin Islands looks incredible right about now!😍😍
Taking it slow today–had oral surgery yesterday….not too bad, everything went well, and other than a chipmunk cheek and minor discomfort, I am recovering. So, no scent at the moment, just Advil.
I have to get rid of many bottles–I am in the process of downsizing in prep for a move to smaller digs. Stay tuned for some sales and giveaways.
Sadly, many delightful fragrances will be voted off the island…but I hope to find them good homes.
Would love to winter in the South of France and take some Chanel with me…..maybe Cristalle.
Thinning things out prior to a move is a TON of work. Good luck with it all!
Glad to hear that your oral surgery wasn’t horrible…
South of France with Cristalle … perfect!
Good luck with the downsizing.
After several visits to the perfumery over the last week (it is only a short walk away from home and work), yesterday I bought the new Arquiste L’Or de Louis. It’s a very nice orange blossom.
They also have new stock of Indigo Smoke, which I also like. However, I thought I’d pounce on L’Or de Louis, as I might have got a bargain. It was priced the same as the rest of the range, but Robin’s announcement of it a few weeks ago and Arquiste”s website show a higher price.
As for the questions, I’ll count my new purchase, if I hadn’t bought it yesterday it would be top of my list.
There is nothing I want to vote off the island, those that I don’t wear often I still wear sometimes.
It’s a lovely morning here, so thinking of a spring getaway, I’d take my long time love, Le Temps d’Une Fête.
Oh excellent, congrats on your “regularly priced” bottle. I want to try that one.
1. Chloe Rose essentielle intens, I smelled it at the airport and keep thinking about it
2. Youth Dew Amber nude, I always vote it off but don’t seem to do anything about it
3. Istanbul and I would wear Shalimar Philtre
Outside this evening it’s pre-Bonfire Night, lots of firecrackers already. I was wearing BV Eau de Velours and was thinking it would be difficult to choose between this flanker and the original.
Lucky you, having both Bottega Veneta and BV Eau de Velours.
Is the Chloe Rose Essentielle Intens easily available for you?
Yes, it’s available at department stores and online, but I am mindful I’m on a low buy so I’ll have to wait.
1. Still wanting PdE Vetiver Bourbon, but I’m going to try to be on a no-buy this month. I had a new furnace and AC installed last week and mama needs cash flow.
2. Miss Dior “Originale”, which I understand is a recent remake? I’ve splurged on a lot of actual vintage bottles recently, and this one just doesn’t float my boat.
3. I’ll take that Vetiver Bourbon to a mountain lake house, with a personal chef, masseuse, and no bugs.
Here’s hoping there are no more home disasters eating into your perfume budget this month!
I know, right? So rude.
SOTD = Chanel No5 L’Eau
In the gorgeous RED bottle! I am doing a Lucifer-themed perfume CP and what better to start than the RED Chanel bottle. Also, you get a two-fer because I’ve combined it with Caturday!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CzPPp6SxFzI/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I may have a few more things to say but my phone is running out of juice so I better stop now.
I was SO tempted by that red bottle when it came out! Didn’t get it, though.
That bottle is gorgeous. I wonder if they’ll ever bring it back.🤔
Wearing a sample of Obvious Parfums Un Vanille. This is such a straightforward vanilla but so easy to wear. It has a plastic doll-head note that I actually quite like.
Husband is off at an annual event. I usually go with him but I have been working so much I cannot spend all day out when I have so many unfinished tasks. The housework I don’t mind but all the employment-associated work that spills over into nights and weekends is really bothering me.
1. I already overbought this year. Trying out samples for next year. I have been on a vanilla kick so maybe Obvious Vanille will make the cut.
2. I would vote Escentric 01 off the island. Husband goes berserk when he smells it.
3. Not planning any travel currently. We just got back from a great trip and I love fall here (because the heinously hot summer is finally over) but since we are talking fantasy, I would like to got to Tasmania or to Scotland.
Hope you got everything done, Zephyr2!
(And I sometimes like plastic doll head too. It depends.)
I’m not a fan of the time change, in either season. It messes up my sleep for a good 1-2 weeks.
I’m in LL Vanille 44 from a decant. And that’s a thunk. This is the decant I’ve had the longest, from my very first split here. I’ve enjoyed but not sure I’ll get more. Those prices.😩
1. Well, I really need to restock my Tam Dao and Eau des Merveilles. I have a few more samples and decants to get through first. I’m also eagerly looking forward to trying Dame’s new Sonoran Desert Musk which is supposed to be released this fall. I won’t blind buy though since I’m completely anosmic to his other musk.
2. None. I’m intentionally thunking samples and decants so that I can continue to curate a full bottle collection of things I love to wear.
3. We usually take a fall trip to my old alma mater to visit my college daughter, but since she’s not a college student anymore we didn’t make that trip. That is where I’d go, during peak color season. Looks like madtownteen will be there next year though.🤞 I’ll bring Tam Dao.
There are times where I have had more “jet lag” from a changing of the clocks than an actual airplane flight.
Weird.
The “fall back” never bothers me–in fact I enjoy it–but the “spring forward” definitely gives me jet lag far worse than just going one time zone to the east. I think it is because when you actually travel across one or more time zones, the rising and setting times of the sun also change. With the time change, the time displayed by the clocks becomes out of sync with the position of the sun in the sky. In the spring, it would change from being somewhat light when I had to wake up for work on Friday to being pitch dark when the alarm went off on Monday. Now, the times of sunrise and sunset change with the seasons regardless of DST, but the seasonal changes are gradual; generally the times change by a minute or two per day for most of the US. The brain and body adjust to the gradual change. The change from Standard Time to Daylight Saving Time is an abrupt change of an hour, and in a direction opposite to the natural progression for the time of sunrise. From the winter solstice until the summer solstice, the time of sunrise gradually becomes earlier day by day, until the time change, when it suddenly becomes an hour later than the day before. For the latitude where I live, it takes until early May for sunrise to occur as early (according to the altered clock) as it was in early March immediately before the onset of DST.
Starting to pack things up. It’s more emotionally painful that I expected.
1. I may or may not have picked up something on sale at Sephora recently. So I guess that’s what I have added to the Perfume Wardrobe.
2. Not getting rid of anything at the present. I will revisit that when things are calmer. Bad idea to do something in the heat of the moment.
3. Don’t want to travel in the future, but will have to. So my fantasy destination is a place of my own where I feel safe and at home, with Teflon kitty.
SOTD = a bit of ELdO’d Fils de Dieu, and Dame Perfumery Body Butter in the usual spots.
ARGH! “Than I expected”, not “that”!
Rackum frackum typo.
Thinking of you my friend. Hugs 🥰
Thank you Kris. Getting by with the help of my friends and family.
Good idea to let the dust settle before getting rid of things. Fingers crossed that you find a perfect home in Colorado.
Thanks Aurora.
Hope you find a great place of your own that is safe and just right for you!
Thank you springpansy.
Here’s hoping for the perfect place for you & Teflon. Just take it one thing at a time – a cliche, but it helps.
Thanks ringthing.
I am not looking forward to moving Teflon kitty. She is NOT a traveler. I’ve been trying to harness train her for a week now. It’s slow going.
That’s a tough one. Are there any kitty downers or CBD or something….we always had to dope our big dog for trips, but cats are so different.
I *do* have a prescription med for Teflon I can use when she’s in a carrier, but it just takes the edge off.
I have wondered if she gets motion sickness.
I hope your packing goes well and it’s not too painful, and you find lots of good things to look forward to.
Thank you Kanuka. Trying to balance packing with the tasks that need to be dealt with for the house sale, and just daily life.
Packing is so hard. Good luck with it all! Remember, one box at a time. Best wishes for finding that dream home. 💗
Thanks AnnE. Hoping I don’t have a mad dash at the end of packing, and just dumping things into boxes.
Yep, I’ve been there. In one horrible move, the truck drivers told us at the last minute that the truck was overweight and we would have to take out some of the boxes. 😫 A local guy; I shoulda known. If I’m lucky, I’ll never have to more cross-country again.
Debating between hiring movers and getting a UHaul. I did the UHaul thing with my past 2 moves, but that was a long time ago.
Good luck with finding the perfect new home, Jalapeño!
Thanks Sapphire.
Jalapeno, I really hope you get your #3. You deserve it.
Aw, thanks lillyjo!
Gosh, you know we are all rooting for you to find the perfect place! I am sure packing is bittersweet.
Too tired to write much (and not looking forward to helping our crabby kitty shift to the new time — he is in fact a lovely cat but he wants his food when he wants his food).
Work is super busy, but yesterday wore Roísín Dubh (it is perhaps becoming my signature scent) and got a huge, well-informed compliment from one of the most stylish people I’ve ever met (my optician, as it happens). It was fun to talk about Cloon Keen with someone who was excited to hear about it. (And silly me, I forgot to ask if she knew about NST!)
Lots going on at work. Busy does not scratch the surface!
My mom was just complaining that you can’t explain daylight savings to the cat!
Happy Sunday!
I’m wearing Black Orchid, since it was mentioned above and sounded good.
1. Geisha Noire.
2. Tom Ford White Patchouli. I like it but never wear it.
3. Maybe San Louis Obispo CA. It’s beautiful there; I’d stay at spa kind of place and have a massage every day and swim in the salt pool. Since it’s a fantasy, I’d teleport there without the flight or the drive lol. I’d buy a lovely spa type scent to wear.I think I’d like to go by myself, or maybe with a personal assistant.
If you ever think about doing a splitzies on GN lmk..I have been wanting that scent for forever lol
I want the oil.
Teleportation! Now that’s the beginning of a beautiful trip! 😄
Wearing Bengale Rouge today. It’s been a while since we visited and a wearing was over due.
Moving house tomorrow so today will be the day to get ready. I have found I like to have everything done the day before so I can boogie out on departure day without having to do anything other than make coffee, toast, and feed the dog. I won’t miss this campground. It’s nice and quiet but there are sand spurs everywhere so I can’t even take the dog off the pavement for fear of getting those things in her paws. Then she tries to remove them herself and they stab into her muzzle and tongue. I have to be ready at the drop of a hat with tweezers…🙄
Hope everyone’s weekend was just what you wanted it to be, and the sick folks are back in their best form! ✌🏼
Oh no, poor doggie. I like to watch the vet shows on Animal Planet and have seen an occasional emergency where a dog got into a spat with a porcupine and has quills in its nose. It’s so horrible. Back when I had a dog, first husband and first house, he occasionally had spats with a skunk. Somehow he never learned not to. My poor then-husband was always a good sport about washing him off even if it meant doing it. outdoors in a Massachusetts winter. Mars was a sweet dog and very big (German-Shepherd/black lab mix) but never very brainy.
Aw, poor doggo. Skunks will lift that tail at a drop of a hat. Thankfully, I’ve never had a dog that wrangled with a skunk but I can imagine how horrible it must be. Your then husband was a good sport! 🫧🛀🧼💦
1. The last time I went sniffing at Neiman-Marcus with Nancyleandros, I was quite taken with some of the recent Amouage releases, and would love to add the one called Lineage, but it’s even more pricey than the usual. Hmm, I see someone has it on eBay for quite a good price; now I’m wondering if it’s authentic? Uh-Oh!
2. Since I’m in the process of downsizing I’ve already sorted out quite a few items in my collection that have to go. Several by Monegal and a lot of more commercial things like Euphoria.
3. This is the time of year when my professional association tends to meet, though it’s put off a few weeks this year, and I have fond memories of fall visits to many great places, ranging from San Diego to San Antonio to Tampa to Savannah to St Louis and Northampton, Mass. But the most gorgeous place was in Victoria, B.C., where some of us went to visit the Butchart Gardens. It’s a glorious place and had the most wonderful displays of chrysanthemums, dahlias, and stunningly red maples in their Japanese gardens there. I’d happily go back again. I guess I need an autumn spicy scent, maybe even Grand Soir? Is there a nice fragrance with chrysanthemums? I love how they smell.
Your post reminds me of last week when I was heading south. I came down and out of a canyon just north of Abiquiu and the entire valley opened up in front of me! The Abiquiu river ran through it and all along the river was chock-a-block cottonwoods. The surrounding landscape was red rocks, then the fiery gold skein of the cottonwoods, with glimpses of the quicksilver river sparkling in the sun between the tree crowns. I always find it so interesting how place/environment can make such internal changes in people. 🌲🌳🍂🍁
Demeter had a chrysanthemum scent, which was cheap and might still be available?
Love Butchart Gardens!
I am kinda not motivated lately. lol. Need to focus on positive vibes as I am a bit of a struggle bus on that front lately. So, I am craving major citrus…but have no citrusy scents really. I just want lemon, lemon, lemon lol. And I have no lemon lol. So I am commando wishing I was doused in a citrus bomb lol
I hear you on the missing motivation. It’s hard to find the gumption to do things when the main emotion is “I don’t wanna!”
Love me some fall back. Though the cats wanted their breakfasts just a touch too early this morning.
1. I don’t really feel any urgency about adding to the collection, downsizing has the priority. And definitely have no need for more FBs. Though there a couple of vintage and d/c-ed items that it would be nice to get my hands on sooner or later should the price be viable.
2. Tossup between DK Black Cashmere & Montale Patchouli Leaves. They get little to no love from me and yet I have held on to them forever. They will move on soon.
3. Muir Beach. Beachfront house. CdG Sequoia.
Wishing calm and balance to everyone who is making their way through difficult times right now.
Hey, spiderplant, if you’re up for swapping your DK & Montale, send me a line. 😉 standing dawt armsakimbo at gee mail dawt common
Note to Robin: hope I’m not stepping out of line here!
I swapped away Black Cashmere ages ago and regret it, plus my ancient Patchouli Leaves just sort of lost its smell. It doesn’t smell turned, it’s just turned pale. (My bottle of L’AP Seville à L’Aube did the same thing. ) Weird.
sent you a note, AnnE (if you didn’t get it, just click on my username for my contact)
I got it, thanks! Will reply tomorrow.
All the irises are beginning to flower now and they are so lovely. I always forget we have them in our garden and then suddenly the unpromising green stalky leaves near the hedge produce large purple flowers and I remember, oh yeah, irises! I’m wearing Interlude , a perfume which hovers between the in and out tray in my mind. It’s been a long time since I have been to a city…one with more than one art gallery, interesting neighbourhoods, speciality shopping , museums, buildings etc. so I would like to go to Melbourne as that’s the closest and stay in a nice hotel and just wander around.
How nice to have surprise irises! My surprises are usually the other way, like the squirrels ate all the crocus buds 🙂
I’m in Tears of Iris today. It’s warmed up here this weekend and I can’t say I’m upset about it.
Wild weekend for me! Went to see a Fleetwood Mac tribute band on Friday night and froze my patootie off. Worth it. Book club yesterday morning and drum circle in the afternoon. 🎶 📚 🪘 🎶
Here are my answers:
1. I’d love to add B683 to the lineup. Might get the 30ml bottle.
2. I’d vote off PG Tonka Bodykon. I thought it was right, but I was wrong.
3. Fall vacation: I’d be quite happy to take a long weekend trip to the Texas hill country. Walk, sip some wine, see a play, play with some dogs, go to farmers markets….
It’s been a while since I’ve seen or heard someone use the word “patootie”. Made me smile.
Lots of words for the bum!
I miss the Texas hill country. It was a favorite weekend spot when we lived in Austin many moons ago.
I lived in Austin a lifetime ago too. Fun city!
Glad you had a good time at the concert! You’ve been busy!
Wearing Angelos Perfumes thé dt. Not lasting on me today, so later I will be house twins with Deva and wear Pd’E Cuir de Russie. I wore this yesterday and was surprised how much more I liked it this time. It’s being voted back on to the island. 😁
1. Fall purchase was just made – Indigo Smoke. This is one of the few incense-y frags that I like. Must be the tea, which is my obsession note lately.
2. Too many to count. I want to make a big reduction, but I’m stressed by the thought of having to use an online sales platform. Any suggestions??? (I’m giving away some, too.)
3. There are so many places I want to go! Japan, Italy, Greece, to name a few. Or revisit the UK, France, or Hawaii. Wait, I know: Bali!
I have seen on YouTube that people have been doing private sales through Instagram.
Oh, interesting. Thanks for the tip!
. What’s the fragrance you’d most like to add to your collection this fall?
Indigo Smoke is getting a lot of love here. I should go to Fumerie and sniff.
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?
One perfume? I have a shoebox full, and I should start a second one. Just to pick one, I have Etro Jacquard that I got in a swap. It is just not me. It was nice for the 10-second sniff I had before I had to make a swap decision, but powdery violets are not my taste. If anyone would be interested, LMK. Foxbins at A oh ell dotty com.
3. It’s time for a (fantasy) fall getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you.
I’m going to Hawaii and bringing some Virgin Island Water with me. I’ve never worn it there.
I have never worn Virgin Island Water in Hawaii either, huh…
Thank you so much for all the hugs and kind comments. Yesterday was a very hard day and I’m resting and recovering today while keeping my dad company. Tomorrow we drive back to San Diego. My brother did an amazing job gathering and digitizing photos and it was great seeing all the happy moments in her life. Over a hundred people were there to honor my mom. It was comforting to be surrounded by family and friends, several I hadn’t seen in many years. My dad gave the sweetest eulogy speech. All in all it has been a difficult but good weekend to celebrate mom.
Glad to hear it went well. For my dad’s eulogy, we gave the honor to our brother and even he cried.
Happy to hear that everything went well. Those can be incredibly difficult occasions.
It sounds like the event went as well as possible! Another hug for you, plus one for your dad.
I hope you can rest and take a break now, for a while
So glad, it will be a nice memory to treasure. Rest up.
Hi Cazaubon,
I haven’t been on NST as much of late so only just saw your posts about your mom’s funeral. Add my hugs to all those you’ve received. May you find comfort in sweet memories.
Sending you belated vanilla hugs and continued strength..sounds like it was a beautiful memorial for your dear Mom.

OK, I am NOT stressed out but I can see some anxiety crouching. I will practice my frozen poke bowl tonight to see if it passes the test. My idea is to freeze a poke bowl tonight, then put it in a cooler to keep cool for 9-10 hours and see how it tastes. If that doesn’t work, I will go with the peanut butter and jelly (? may have to buy a jar) sandwich route.
Smart idea, to try the frozen poke bowl for a test run.
A sandwich might be the simplest way to go.
SOTD was VCA Orchidee Vanille alongside a very old sample of Gourmand Coquin to compare and see if the new Feve Gourmand sounds good. And it does. Maybe in a split meet. OV is just too sweet and would probably get voted off, along with Delices de Cartier that I never wear. The new Guerlain extraits sound fabulous, but the pricing is way too aspirational for me. I’d love a getaway to Charlottesville, VA, but times for a couple of weeks ago. Trees would still have good color and there would still be daylight.
Realistically, the new D&G Devotion travel spray might come home or with enough hints, it could wind up in my Christmas stocking.
I really like Devotion.
I really need to try it!
It’s been a long working weekend for me. I have so many crazy stories I can’t remember them all.
1. I would like to add Cristalle edp.
2. I have given away quite a few bottles this year. A few more could go. KvD Sinner is one.
3. I don’t want to go anywhere. I would love extra time for a staycation with pay.
Time is more valuable the older we get, isn’t it?
It’s worth more than gold.
Hi! Great questions! I suppose my answers have a bit of a theme. (Breakfast at Tiffany’s!) 😎💋👍
1) First, The fragrance I’d love to add to my collection is L’Interdit Rouge Ultime by Givenchy (LVMH.) I recently tried it and find it warm, compelling, captivating and it seems absolutely perfect for special occasions and romantic fall evenings.
2) Now it is very difficult for me to choose a fragrance to vote off. Since my moods change, seasons and circumstances change, etc., sooner or later if I’ve ever loved something enough to buy it, I’ll probably want to wear it again, especially if there’s a memory attached to the scent. So, okay, if I MUST choose, since we are in the fall season, I guess I’d reluctantly relinquish Daisy Oh So Fresh by Marc Jacobs. I’ll miss it later! 😉
3) My favorite question: Fantasy Fall Getaway!!
Okay, her’s a bit of nastalgia, tied to fragrance and fashion! I’d start by viewing an old film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Since Audrey Hepburn wears that amazing *little black dress* designed by Hubert de Givenchy, before packing for my trip, I’d go out to Macy’s and purchase a fabulous new *little black dress*. Around the time Givenchy designed the dress, he also created a fragrance just for Audrey Hepburn: L’Interdit. She later became the first face associated with promoting fragrance when they decided to market L’Interdit by Givenchy. Classic elegance! The movie was set in Manhattan in the fall. So, I’d bring the modernized LVMH Givenchy L’Interdit Eau de Parfume fragrance and the fab little black dress and head with my sweetheart to New York City and enjoy a nostalgic Breakfast at Tiffany’s in Manhattan in Blue Box Café® by Daniel Boulud. Wouldn’t that be an incredible memory to make?
The first line of the book, Breakfast at Tiffany’s said, “I am always drawn back to the places where I have lived, the houses and their neighborhoods.” I feel like I am always drawn back to the fragrances I’ve worn throughout my life. They tell a story. Memories are closely tied to scent. Smells evoke memories of special times, places, and the people who wore them! (Chanel No. 5, No. 19, Coco Mademoiselle, Paloma Picasso, Anais Anais, Ysatis, Amarige, Ralph Lauren, kendo, Irresistible, I Want Choo, Coach….each tied to a memory!)
