PSA: there are still fragrances looking for a new home over in the swapmeet!
Meanwhile, Saturday is Earth Day, and Sunday is World Book Day, St George’s Day, UN English Language Day and Shakespeare Day. We're celebrating all of it with a twist on our guilty pleasures poll (due for a repeat soon). Tell us about the fragrance(s) you just don't really care for, even though they are classics and/or everyone else seems to love them.
(And as with the scrubbers poll, perhaps best to not read the comments today if you're very sensitive about your own perfume loves.)
Or, as always, just talk about something else.

Chanel No. 5. Never liked it and will never try to like is just because it’s Chanel No. 5. I’m sure it smells fab on others, but me no likey. Period. Rather have a scorpion lodged in my nose.
Seems like it’s going to be a Bvlgari Omnia kind of weekend. And that’s not a bad thing at all. 😍
I’m with you on No.5, but….not the scorpion.😬😂
Oh gosh I’m so glad you said it first. I’ve tried for years to like #5 but it smells like cat pee on me. I’ve not had any luck with any of Chanel, something about the base formula just reacts badly with my skin chemistry.
Now Guerlain? I can wear anything. Of course there are some I like more than others but overall it’s just a scent fit.
I too don’t love Chanel No. 5. Only thing my sister wears. Have been fine with Eau Premiere but never need a bottle
“Rather have a scorpion lodged in my nose” is a good one, I might use that later 🙂
Got a good chuckle about the scorpion comment!
My biggest guilty displeasure is Guerlain Shalimar. I understand why it’s a classic, but I find something about the lemon atop all that rich sweetness jarring and mildly nauseating.
I’m wearing Lauder for Men, a classic mid-eighties men’s chypre. Holy cow is it ever good.
I’m not a fan of the original either. Although I do love and have MVP.
That would probably be mine as well. I have never been able to enjoy it like others seem to.
Shalimar terrified me for years due to an unfortunate high school over-spraying incident. Tipped my toe into the Eau de Cologne and have the Tonka, both of which I love.
The eau de cologne was what finally reconciled me to Shalimar too! I also really like Shalimar Philtre.
I’m not a Shalimar fan either. I might like one of the flankers if I ever tried them, but I’m not willing to jump through the hoops.
Since I no longer have any Earth Mother on hand, I decided to go with my grounding essential blend of patchouli, clove and ylang ylang for Earth Day.🌎 It’s the earthiest thing I own. I think.
I was up at the crack of dawn to take my daughter to work. Her farmer shift she calls it. 6 am is a brutal start time. Drove past the record store on the way home because today is record store day and people were lined up all down the block and half way around waiting for the 7 am open time. And it was snowing. I passed.😂 I don’t want anything bad enough to wait in line in that kind of weather. I would like a copy of the 40th anniversary of Violent Femmes debut album. Wisconsin’s very own. My college bestie came from the same high school. I’ll head over later and see if the line’s gone.
Fun poll! I love polls. And lists.🤓 Many of the classics haven’t worked for me: Mitsouku, Lheure Blue, no. 5, Joy, ….I’m sure there are others. I guess I’m just not a classic perfumista.
I would not have stood in line either, but makes me happy people are lining up for record day! Go records!
I know, yay records!🤩
Did you ever make it back to the record store?
Jalapeño- so I went back at 12:30 and there was still a line about half way down the block, went back at 3:30 and finally no line but Violent Femmes was sold out. Buzzed across town the the other, smaller record shop and sold out there too.☹️ I’m surprised, I didn’t think it’d be a hit with all the hipsters, but good for the Femmes, I’m glad their album is seeing a resurgence. I see it’s already on evil bay for 2-3 times what it was retailing for. That happens every record store day, people rush out just to come home and list it on the bay. I don’t get it, and it seems not in the spirit of record store day, but some people will stop at nothing to make a buck. Sad.
Bleeping profiteers! 🤬
Feel free to come down to my basement if you want some records. Lol.
Oh I bet you have some good ones! Wish I lived closer.😉 I have all mine from high school too and there are some real classics in the bunch, so glad I still have them.
Guilty (dis)pleasures. Hmmm… Guerlain’s, especially those from JPG. Basically three reasons.
First, aesthetics. JPG’s creations are often too refined. I feel they lack some spirit and are more like a product than artwork. I cannot deny they are lovely, but I just cannot experience an aha moment as in Caron or Patou.
Second, their corporate culture. The sexism that excluded Mathilde Laurent and Patricia de Nicolaï as in-house. The intentional failure to credit the perfumers, especially Anne-Marie Saget who played an essential role in the JPG milestones, such as Parura, Nahema, Derby, and Samsara… I cannot help frowning at these BS (Well, I am also looking at you, Chanel and Coty!) I know JPG’s late life is not so smooth. Call me cold-blooded, but I am rather indifferent.
Third, the restless profit-squeezing strategy. As Robin reported yesterday, it is only April and they have already launched 6 limited bottles. Last year, their price rocketing has also impacted the classic lines. I personally find their only reasonably priced line now has also been robbed. So instead of contributing to the greedy LVMH’s stock values, I’d rather save my money for the revival of Caron or for any other small atelier houses.
Well said, even though i love guerlain perfumes, I am not happy about their corporate culture.
I am betting Delphine Jelk is their next house perfumer…they certainly are going out of their way to promote her and her work. If she’s not, it will be pretty clear nothing has changed.
I’ve never liked No. 5 either. The rose note always hits me wrong.
In maybe the fastest NST turnaround, I am wearing Jour d’Hermes because Robin mentioned it the other day. I used to have a bottle years ago, but sadly swapped it away. Ebay to the rescue, and now a bottle is sitting on my desk (for a song, no less).
Ha, that was indeed quick!
Hurray! I’ve been wearing Jour d’Hermes parfum from a recent purchase, and loving it.
I’m with several of you in (de)selecting Chanel No. 5. It has never worked on me and I don’t really get the hype. It’s not Chanel’s base, in my case — I own and adore several Chanels. Might be the aldehyde overdose? Dunno, and doesn’t really matter.
Meanwhile, this morning I’m indulging in my latest layering love — Profumum Alba over Le Dix dusting powder. Lovely combo, kind of like being inside a fluffy cloud of cotton candy.
I just realized that my SOTM is the exact opposite of earth. I fail 🌎 Day!
I would have to say Shalimar.
SOTD is Chanel No 5 EDT. I used to be like many of you and couldn’t even imagine buying any of the Chanel No 5 line, but have found that I do enjoy the EDT and love L’Eau so you just never know.
Shalimar is not an easy one for many people
I’m with you, Kris re: Chanel No. 5 – a latecomer but a happycomer😊
I very much enjoy Nuda Veritas today.

Good to see you comment.
I love Nuda Veritas! Nice to see you here.
Hello there!
Oh am in Delina today – both versions
Scrubbers 😠
– Vaara (re- homed)
– I got a decant if Iris Ganache and I tried and tried but it’s a scrubber
– Byredo Blanche (re-homed)
– Santal 33- omg – like someone is smoking dill cigarettes wearing musk
– the Orange blossom from Jo Malone
–
Lol at Santal 33!🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
It is indeed an excellent line, claps for ltsg 🙂
I felt the same way about IG. It was a double whammy because I had the expectation of 100% love and was sadly disappointed. 😢
“Smoking dill cigarettes”?!? LOL!
Santal 33 is a big dill bomb on me, too. And I’m completely okay with that.
I rather like cigarette notes in perfume, too – will be trying this one soon thanks to Swapmeet!
I hope it’s a hit for you! ☺️
Wearing vintage Shalimar today, just because.
I don’t feel guilty about what doesn’t work for me because I have tried very hard over the years, but with the notable exceptions of Shalimar and Nahema, Guerlain is not for me. Not vintage, not newer versions of things like Chamade, Jicky, L’Heure Blue which on paper should all work for me but they just don’t. I think it’s the “Guerlainade” in the base. So, more for everyone else! And, I’ll be happy to keep all the Chanel No 5 for myself 🙂
I hope you can spare a little of that No. 5, as long as it’s vintage. I used to wear the extrait back in the eighties, and I have about an eighth of an ounce of 1990s EDT left. It’s really extraordinary. I think I get why people dislike it: it’s dramatically, unapologetically itself, not a standard pretty floral in any way. But I like drama! And I like the variations on it that other houses have come up with, such as Guerlain Vega and Clinique Wrappings. I think I just like to be awash in aldehydes sometimes.
SOTD Bond No.9 New Haarlem.
Most of the classics have never worked for me, despite appreciating their beauty. Just to mention few brands: Guerlain Mitsouko, Chamade, L’Heure Bleue, Jicky, Samsara, Vol de Nuit; Caron Nuit de Noel, Parfum Sacre; Most of Estée Lauders. I am still fond of all Chanel classics, including No 5. Chanel No. 19 is a big favorite!
Happy Weekend!
Oh my, you smell wonderful!
Thank you, Ringthing!🌻
I can see how Le Heure Bleue can be challenging.
I’m in 19-69 Purple Haze from a generous NSTer swap. It’s unlike anything else I have and though I was worried the cannabis note would be too strong, I find it well balanced with the other notes.
Re: the Swapmeet – I’ve just posted a freebie box and still have many things to swap, both on my list and off my list. And feel free to ignore my wishlist and try me!
Oh, I wanted to like Teo Cabanel Alahine because it’s so well liked but I just don’t.
I have always wondered what that was like. I see so many people like it on here. You apparently didn’t 😊
Ditto!
Fig is not my friend. It’s pretty much a dealbreaker for me in any perfume. In terms of specific perfumes, I used to be anti-Shalimar but MVP turned that around for me. While MVP has tons of vanilla, it still really has the classic Shalimar vibe to my nose.
I haven’t posted in a while. My poor daughter was sick AGAIN though thankfully nothing diagnosable the last round ehaeh 😉 just a generic virus. It’s been fairly non-stop since Thanksgiving.👎🏻 And work has also been a terrible distraction from important fragrance research. 😆
I am working my way through a bunch of Pierre Guillaume samples …quite like his work and hadn’t sampled much of line previously.
I am also not-so-desperately seeking Perris Monte Carlo Vanille de Tahiti if anyone has an unloved bottle I would be happy to rehome it for you w/ a swap or Paypal F&F. 🙂
I bought a decant when it first came out and liked it but never pursued more then I recently got a sample and have been loving it. Some reviews on Fragrantica get urine and/or poop in the opening(!?!) but I just get yellow flowers.
I have a similar problem with fig notes. In the abstract, sniff for smell’s sake, I like fig a lot. But perfumes with heavy fig bug me really fast when being worn.
Hope your daughter is now completely recovered, and hope you catch a break…wishing you an easy summer 🙂
Aw, sorry to hear that your daughter had another bout of illness!
I hope your daughter feels better soon!
Oh my,I have a whole list!Lol!
Jovoy Rouge Assassin is on top of my scrubber list!
ELdO Vraie Blonde-this one stuck on my skin like glue!I have a problem with suede notes, they tend to go sour-pukey on my(See also Byredo Bullion)
Cacharel Eden is probably the weirdest perfume I have ever smelled.None of the above are really classics though. So I’d say Arpege,or the versions that I have sniffed anyway.I don’t get it.
SOTD!Frapin Nevermore.
Date was “fine”.🤐🤐
Happy weekend!XO’s
P.s,although I enjoy No.5,it’s really not all that either….haha.
Just fine? Oh, well.
Neeeext….🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🧐🤣
Ummm, that might “quite” fine.
Pretty boys aren’t always IT.🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤣🤣
Hahaha! That was my headline on my now deleted dating website profile!
Wait! Which part was your headline?
Neeeext! 🫣
Lol.I should copy that too.
Darn, I was sort of hoping for either a) excellent or b) disaster with very funny stories.
Congrats on new apartment though!
Haha!
This was so beyond boring that “fine” was the biggest compliment I could muster up.
And Thanks!!Excited for the new place!
😻glad your date was fine
Haha.
I need sparks and fireworks, maybe one or two butterflies.🧐🤷🏼♂️
“Fine” with a side of “Meh”? Oh well. So it goes.
If there was a word such as “finemehneeext” it would have been the perfect description…lol
Since the 1970s – 90s: Poison, Giorgio, Tresor, Oscar, Eternity, and Escape. Most disliked of all: Angel and everything it has spawned.
These days: LVEB and any sweet, pink juice churned out on a never stopping conveyer belt. Any lines that are overhyped, overpriced and are releasing scents and flankers months apart.
No5 is okay but it’s not my style. Much prefer Cristalle, No19, Allure, and Exclusives Eau de Cologne & Bel Respiro. Same with Shalimar – I appreciate it but it doesn’t suit me.
As for men’s scents: Acqua di Gio. Every Christmas season and Father’s Day I recoil in horror when I see any ads promoting it.
Oh, I forgot about LVEB. That is definitely a dislike for me.
It took me a second to decipher haha!
Lancome pretty much is a NO for me.
La Vie Est Belle is SO terrible. I smelled it when it first came out and couldn’t quite believe something so appalling had hit the mass market. And it’s really beloved! My mom liked it a lot (but luckily never wore it when I was around).
I thought LVEB was bor-ring, but then I smelled in on someone else and liked it. Then I bought a bottle for cheap. Then I, you know, sorta-kinda liked it.
Figured there had to be a few others who didn’t like it! Sad thing is Lancôme made some great scents that I wore in the ‘80s… Magie Noire and O de Lancôme. Both still available but not the same as they once were.
I somehow got ahold of an early version of O de Lancôme. It was quite extraordinary.
Yes it was! The earliest version I had was probably around ‘82 or so and it was in the frosted bottle with either the burgundy lid or the burgundy band with the frosted plastic lid. Back then it smelled stronger than when I last tested it. It was like Eau de L’Orange Verte… probably the basil making me think that.
I first smelled O de Lancome in 2016, and thought that it was really good then!
I actually like LVEB EDP – go figure 🤣
Haha! It really is quite fascinating what people do and don’t like. 🤔 I would love to be able to chart little Venn diagrams with others to see what we have in common!
That would be an awesome project!
Want a bottle?
My 100mL bottle is still quite full but thanks.
So do I!
Among the classics I really was practically repulsed by Bal à Versailles for like forever, and then I tried it again for some reason, got an ’80s bottle of it and now I wear it but not often. Among the current scents I recoiled in the same way from Lady Million and Dior Sauvage, fortunately it doesn’t happen to me very often. Not certain what was the connection but suspect excess of ambroxan which I fear.
We’re having a cool spring, enjoyed some sun this morning and took a stroll, the bluebells are out, they smell so good. I was in AG Heure Exquise which seemed very fitting, with the weather, now I am in Les Néréides Imperial Opoponax which is doing its usual impersonation of a sweeter Shalimar and I’m drinking a clementines and yogurt smoothie.
So jelly of your sunshine and smoothie! 😃
Thank you Deva, I should add that the sun didn’t stick around in the afternoon so it was a story of mixed blessings. I am sending vibes for you to get that smoothie maker/blender.
I can totally understand why BaV would scare someone!
Hey, I just sprayed some vintage Bal over the vanilla I’m wearing and it’s pretty great!
Yes, the animalic note takes no prisoners.
I wore Heure Exquise a couple of days ago and loved it. It must have been perfect for your stroll.
Glad you wore it too, it shines in spring.
Gourmandish lavender vanilla mixes? Nope. Not for me. So, for instance, Chanel Boy is a love; Burberry Brit Rhythm for Women is an eeeeuuuuwwwww.
I’m doused in Limon de Cordoza (TDC) which I think I got through an NST swap; So somebody hated it! I love it, but it lasts a New York minute on my skin.
These days I have older relatives all falling apart at the same time so am spending time shuttling folks to doctors and hospitals, and shouting into my mobile “Call me back AFTER you call 911.” It’s been stressful, but mostly because folks are not making decisions in their best interest and are intractable about change. I spoke to my older son this morning (22-year-old) and warned him that his parents may get very weird and irrational as we age. He was very cheerful about it. Said we were already very weird and he felt prepared. Put my mind at rest. 😉 😉 😉
LOL at your son!
But for real, caregiving for elders can be exhausting and it can be hard for elders to turn around and rethinking decisions, because the thinking processes feel ‘set’ . (they aren’t). Don’t be afraid to ask for help in assisting them with needs.
Have you listened to the Renault podcast yet?
Aiyiyi! Being a caretaker for an older relative is one of the most difficult things I can think of. Please take care of yourself, too.
What a wise son you have!
Perfect–love your son’s response.
For me, it is Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge, after the hype, i tried it several times but I couldn’t take it, I had a travel size that came with a set, I gifted it to my friend who loves it.
I am going out tonight to celebrate my daughter’s 25th birthday and planning to wear something I use to wear at her age, Eternity.
I can’t smell BR 540
(Snark alert) Lucky you! I can smell it and wish I couldn’t, lol.
I am sure it’s there.
I can smell the dupes and that has cost me 💰
Happy Birthday to your daughter!
What a great perfume choice for your celebration!
The scrubbers:
Poison- yup, that it is
Shalimar- on other men & women, just not me
TF Tobacco Vanille- I think it’s the sheer ubiquity, but it smelled…rancid.
Today: Poppy Body spray- I will be working in the garden since there will be a break in the weather! Clearing the garden boxes, laying on fresh compost and fertilizer, then doing herb & lettuce starts!
My oregano plant has decided to colonize every where, so I will doing a bit of replanting and giving away oregano starts!
We need to get lettuce started! We might actually be too late.
No scent yet, I’m heading out for a hike soon (*). Will come up with something later.
Classics I don’t love: Chanel No 19. I’ve tried new, I’ve tried vintage, I’ve tried extrait, I just can’t do it. Ah well, more for Hajusuuri 🙂
* maybe. Husband just declared that he’s putting up the bathroom tile this afternoon and he “might” need help, just a little, for a few minutes, so I rather suspect that There Goes My Afternoon. Mind you, I do want the tiling done; the shower has been out of commission since November when said Husband decided he’d change the valve cartridge himself, how hard could it be, blah blah blah, end result was that a whole new shower valve assembly had to be installed by actual plumber which finally happened a week ago.
Lol – I laughed so hard about your shower that I had to show your post to Mr SP (although I laughed in complete sympathy) How hard could it be??!
Hope you get the tiling done AND a hike!
Heh. Your shower saga sounds like it could have been an episode of “Home Improvement”.
Does anyone else remember that TV show?
😂
SOTD = The Harmonist Royal Earth
I went literal with Earth Day. Royal Earth is an excellent earthy iris!
Displeasure perfumes? Guerlain Mitsuoko (nope), Chanel No.18 (literally B.O. and I’ve given up), Smell Bent Prairie Nymph (besides no vowels, it smells like rancid down there), ELDO Secretions Magnifique (just thinking about it makes me want to hurl), Le Labo Rose 31 (funeral home make-up), Aftelier Secret Garden (too feral), etc. etc.
Read of the day from NY Times (although I believe the article was from a few days ago): I will call it “Gourmet Dog” but with Gourmet pronounced like “gor-MET”. No, no and no. The article could have been about cats as well and you know none of the restaurants would be open because the proprietors would have been shredded. Anyway, why would I spend $75 per dog for a fancy tasting menu? And so what if the meals include vegetables? 🤷🏻♀️
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/20/dining/dog-menus-restaurants.html
SB Prairie Nymph is probably the skankiest thing I have smelled in perfume. And it was highly disturbing on me.
And I enjoy indolic jasmines, so that’s saying something.
We should probably call whatever makes perfume skanky a Thang!
There’s Good Skank, and then there is Not Good, Horrible, Very Bad Skank!
I can’t handle perfumes that are too clean. Makes my sinuses hurt.
“Funeral home make-up” Wowza! 😂
You took the word right out of my mouth. Wowza!
I forgot to include SL Tubereuse Criminelle – ice pick to the brain and then twisted around.
I love Secretions Magnifique and have contemplated a full bottle over the years. It smells like the Atlantic Ocean of my childhood and family members who have sniffed it on my wrist say it smells great on me.
More for you then 🤣
The pandemic and eating outside, was when I ate out with my dog. It was perfect; I wasn’t feeling comfortable leaving her as she was declining. We would usually go out during the week for take out or an outside dinner.
My cat? Getting her into the car was a nightmare and listening to crying every time.😢
I’d eat the free bread to have dinner with her. $75 + insane taxes and tip!
Didn’t you just get #18? That’s a bummer. I just bought Tank Battle and if it isn’t swapped, back it goes.
Nope … I kept trying but I have since given up.
Nahema. I need to try it again, and I know many people love it, but it did not smell nice on me. And Burberry Brit Sheer (the 2015 version); terrible yuzu note.
Fun purchase of the day: a scented geranium called “Attar of Roses”. And yes, when you brush its leaves, they really do smell like roses!
I need to find this plant..
I felt the same way about Nahema. I wanted to love it but alas, no.
Do rose perfumes not work for you?
Chanel No. 5 *and* Shalimar. No. 5 smelled like detergent on me, which is why No. 5 L’Eau was such a lovely surprise. Shalimar was even worse. It is one of two perfumes that I have had to scrub off in a public restroom. The other? Bvlgari Black, in the hockey puck bottle. That one gave me a horrible headache.
SOTD = still hanging out in Cuir de Lancome. LOVE this one, and will be a little sorry when I thunk my decant of it.
Ha! There’s no accounting for differing tastes. I do love my Bvlgari Black and you already know how I feel about L’Eau (whatever color bottle it comes in, I will get one of each).
That red bottle for No. 5 L’Eau was very tempting! But I decided against that blind buy.
Have loved Bvlgari Black from the first moment I smelled it when it was released. It’s a modern classic… still puzzled why it was discontinued.
Perhaps the Shalitonk flanker would be your gateway. I don’t care for No 5 EDP.
“Shalitonk” — 🤣
I appreciate your suggestion on the Shalitonk flanker.
However, Shalimar is the signature scent of a relative that I don’t care for. So the perfume has some emotional baggage for me as well.
Okay, I’ve really tried to like Jean Patou Joy over the years, but it’s just not happening. Very few BWFs get along with my chemistry, and I need to make peace with that fact.
Also, I was convinced early in my perfumistahood that Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant would be just the ticket. No. It is not. Way to loud for me!
I’m in Vanille Sauvage de Madagascar from La Maison de La Vanille. Dang, that was painful to type out. Thank you, swapmeet buddy! ☺️
Your SOTD was quite the mouthful to read!
I found Jean Patou Joy a meek and inoffensive thing when I tried it a few years ago. OK, but NBD. Personal chemistry strikes again!
Yeah, when I wear Joy, the jasmine and the tuberose have a duel and I invariably lose.
Joy and BWF= not me either.
I LOVE the Elephant and wear it in the heat of summer. Smells like a yummy cardamom custard on my skin. And you smell delicious too.
Thank you, cm8!
I Bo down to you, wearing the Elephant in the summer. 🙇♀️
Hello all!
I’m officially on a no buy! I never thought I’d see the day, if I’m honest. I’m going to be leaving my job soon to finish my degree full time and my discretionary budget won’t include perfume. Might reward myself with something special depending on my semester grades but that won’t be a guarantee. 😉
It’s pretty scary imagining myself just living on savings for a year but I’m excited at the same time.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Oh wow! Best of luck as you pursue that degree!
good luck
Congratulations on making that big step! Getting a degree is something you never regret, in any way, in my humble opinion. I’m cheering you on, and I’m sure Calypso is also!
Well, that’s so exciting! Hope you reap wonderful rewards for all your hard work. 👍🏼
I admire you taking this bold step. Wishing you all the best – bon courage!
That’s wonderful! Good luck! You already have a splendid collection, and I am sure you will enjoy and appreciate it even more now!
How exciting–best of luck!
Super good luck to you!
Good luck, Coumarin!
Be firm on your no-buy – you’ll be proud when you’re done. Also, NST Swapmeet does not count!
I’m excited for you!! The no buy will be well worth it.
I haven’t read all the comments yet. I am not sure if this was mentioned, but I do not get along with Musc Ravageur. I know it is dearly loved by some. When I have worn it, all I can smell is Man Cologne. I might like it on someone else but it is not for me.
Today’s sotd is threefold. This morning was Sofia by Sofia Vegara. I went to work in the afternoon wearing Angel’s Share. I am back home now wearing Dame Perfumery Chocolate+Rose.
MR was horrible on my skin! Usually my skin eats musk , but that was sickening.
“Man Cologne:” I know what you mean and, yep, that’s a deal breaker for me.
Eau de Dude is a big Oh NO for me as well!
The Dude abides!
I don’t care for MR either. I keep trying! Determined, but my travel spray is sitting there.
I imagine a NST convention on The Island of Misfit Perfumes, bringing all of our unloved to be loved and not leaving a single one there.
💜
I love this idea! 💕
Now that would be awesome!
Wearing Heure Exquise today. We are visiting with my hubby’s parents so I wanted something fabulous to wear!
I’ve tried to get along with Chanel No. 5, but there’s ‘something’ in there that’s not agreeing with me. I have a bottle of the oil (in spray form) that is collecting dust. I even tried to sell it on Marketplace twice; all to no avail. I do like No. 5 l’eau, it’s quite lovely.
Another one was Madonna’s Truth or Dare; that one made me nauseous! Couldn’t scrub it off fast enough! And a few years ago, Lush made the perfume version of The Comforter. I loved the bath stuff so of course I thought the fragrance would be good too. It was pure cat urine on me. I wore it on a trip to Mexico; I remember leaving it in a bathroom for someone else!
Oh, how funny about the bathroom. I once found a bottle of Silences wedged behind the sink in the bathroom of a vrbo rental, and now I have to wonder if it was a scrubber on someone who stayed there before me.
Truth or Dare was a Fail for me as well. It didn’t sit right on my skin.
The Comforter! I’ve got a bottle. It did initially have that cat pee note, (add to Fragrantica-cat pee?) but now it does smell like The Comforter.
If you want to try cat pee again, let me know!😊
Well, after mostly failing Earth Day yesterday (to be fair, I did switch to Dryad late in the afternoon in an attempt to make amends), today I’m marking World Book Day in Memoirs of a Trespasser. Hoping to be allowed extra credit since both the perfume house and the fragrance’s name reference books. 📚
Anything for books gets extra credit, I think.
I have a hard time with Fracas. There are very few tuberose perfumes that I get along with. My most recent tuberose love is Narcotic V. Currently in Lyric but probably will switch to vintage BaV after my shower.
I can’t handle Fracas either. The only tuberoses I can manage are Tubereuse Criminelle and Queen of the Night. I have to be in just the right mood to wear the Queen.
TC💕
I actually grew into Fracas, though I haven’t smelled it for years.
And I really dislike tuberose.🤢
Wow, this whole week got away from me, perfume-wise. I tested some samples but nothing was FBW. Today I’m wearing Rhubarb Ecarlate. As far as perfume displeasure, I’m another who dislikes Shalimar. It wasn’t until the vanilla flankers came out that I found one that suits me, Mexique.
Shalimar and Chanel 5 are going head to head for votes here 😉
I am an unashamed No. 5 lover, I often layer the EDT and EDP and a smidge of vintage. Shalimar was harder for me because the opening is such a hot mess but then I got my hands on some vintage and I happily wear this because some of the problematic top notes are gone or different. Gorgeous!
SotD Estee Super Cologne Spray. I love the aldehydes, the cloud of lily and tuberose, and the rest of the gang shows up with rose, honey, and spicy fruits. I’ve come to understand that it’s not popular with some! My friend’s bossy MIL loved it and she loyally told me, upon finding out that I do too, that “well, Mama used to wear too much of it.” An in-law in my family also was known for it, and wore it with great aplomb. My fragrant failures include L’Elephant, Fille en Aiguilles, and Chopard Casmir. The latter’s notes always seem like I’d love it, and the other two are so beloved by many of my favorite fragrant friends, but to me…whispers…Kroger’s plug-in aisle…Y***** Candle Store foyer…
LOL at “Kroger’s plug-in aisle…”!
Yankee Candle!😂😂😂
Not a bad smell, but I don’t want to wear it! I dodged 2 blind buy bullets, thanks for the reviews!
My Yankee Candle story which some may have read about…
I love going to Yankee Candle stores, if anything, to marvel at the names of the scents. I also know that the SAs take time to turn the jars just so to allow people to read them. As I was reading, I came across “unwashed linen” and kept going. Wait a minute, wait a minute. Why would anyone want to smell like unwashed linen? So I went back to where I found it and realized that the jar was slightly askew and the “S” was not visible.
Lol!
Can’t wear #5, like many, nor most Shalimars. I like the edc, but keep it primarily for sentimental sake. If I could find the Baccarat bottle from between the mid 60s-early 70s, full presentation, I’d be eternally grateful.
A lot of old school Chanels, classic Guerlains, Victoria’s Secret Lily, Tocca Florence (and I have a couple), MMM anything, a lot of vintage perfumes (and again, I have a lot!) and I’ll throw Black Opium, Irresistible, and the new Armani Code in for good measure.
I know the swappers have wishlists (mine are off the top of my head a bit), but I was wondering if there are people aching for perfumes of old. I’d love to have my vintages to go to a sentimental home.
Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

I agree with you on MMM.
The only one I really enjoyed was Lipstick On. I believe it’s the only one they’ve discontinued.
Go figure. Are they related to Tom Ford? Discont only the best.
The only MMM “Replica” I ever liked was Tea Escape. That one was d/c’ed, and its replacement was a sweet green tea scent I didn’t like as much.
They remind me of Juliette Has A Gun. I like one. The rest have that note.
I enjoyed JHAG Lady Vengeance. It’s a lovely dark rose on me.
Yes, Tea Escape was so great! And the replacement Matcha Meditation not quite as good.
I only tried it on a blotter, but the one that really surprised me was Bond Chinatown. I had heard such wonderful things about it, but it did not smell good to me. Oh well, love the bottle!
I’ve never tried anything from Bond No. 9. I saw those prices tags and decided it wasn’t worth it from the get go.
