I do like these better than yesterday's extravaganza from Louis Vuitton, but not so much that I'll lose sleep over them: two fragrances for Lalique designed by American artist James Turrell and inspired by the American West. At left, Purple Sage for women (purple sage, mandarin, grapefruit and rhubarb); at right, Range Rider for men (leather, pepper, amber and citrus). 100 of each were made, reportedly €25,000 each.

Being a card carrying denizen of the old West, I look at these and think, my mom would hate them, my grandma and great great grandpa would love them! I can see these sitting around in my guest suite! (In my mind, no material guest suite actually exists…)
I would like to smell the rhubarb, sage and citrus one…
Plus-Purple Sage….Riders of the Purple Sage! A Zane Grey classic- I will have to put it on my list and if my copy made it to Michigan when I moved.
I’d just as soon smell neither given that for the money, I’d rather have a new car 🙂
Wow, I love how the bottles are mirrored by, or mirror, the exteriors. Both are so elegant. I’m assuming Turrell designed these and not the scents themselves? He’s absolutely one of my favorite living artists. Brilliant man.
There are MANY articles on the subject and some of them do imply he at least worked on the creative direction of the scents as well, but I swear to nothing 🙂
I think they’re beautiful. And this post is certainly the closest I’ll ever get to them.
🙂
