A selection of 2022 fragrances* from indie perfume house Dawn Spencer Hurwitz: Pineapple King, Lili’uokalani, Estancia, Warrior Queen, The Absinthe Drinkers, Vachi, Kale, Odesa and Electric Summer.
Pineapple King ~ "A surprisingly delicious and sexy ‘men’s’ pineapple fragrance ( women LOVE wearing it, too!). Pineapple King is a beautifully balanced cross between a modern, ‘airy’ chypre and a fruity fougere with base notes of Hawaiian sandalwood, ambergris, musk, leather, and oakmoss. [...] Pineapple King also has references, scent design / ‘dna’ wise, to a fragrance my father wore, (and maybe the King himself, in the 1950’s) when my Dad met my Mom: Aqua Velva. But since I didn’t want this scent to be a complete retro-nouveau throw back, I modernized the feel and of course, added a big dose of pineapple."
Lili’uokalani ~ "Every King must have a Queen… or so they say. With Pineapple King, I felt that we needed a Queen to speak to the pineapple concept. Interestingly, Lili’uokalani, the last Queen of Hawaii, the only Queen Regnant (she was Queen by her own birthright, not by marrying a King). I have long admired the beauty and talent of Lili’uokalani, and I feel honored to pay tribute to her legacy through fragrance. Her perfume takes inspiration from the fragrance styles of her time, so it is an essentially retro-nouveau design with spice undertones, a warm ambery feel in the drydown, but of course, pineapple is the focal note. Hawaiian and tropical flowers dominate the heart along with the sultry qualities of Hawaiian sandalwood."
Estancia ~ "A moderately vintage-leaning atmospheric hay fragrance with a beautifully integrated ‘horse’ note, leather chaps, pampas grass, and sexy undertones of boozy smoked tequila."
Warrior Queen {DSH Perfumes X CaFleureBon} ~ "A modern abstract white lily floral fragrance with a deep sense of icy coolness at first impression. It develops a beautifully grounding effect as it dries down. Warrior Queen is a stunningly fierce fragrance created to celebrate CaFleureBon’s 12th Anniversary under the creative direction of Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief."
The Absinthe Drinkers ~ "A bright, vintage inspired aldehydic green absinthe fragrance with the fluffy-sweet qualities of heliotrope, muguet, and wood violet in the heart, and an ambrette-y musk / warm skin accord in the drydown. It’s kind of addictive."
Vachi {a limited edition Sandalwood perfume} ~ "A luxurious sandalwood ‘gourmand’, of sorts, designed to impart nourishment, beauty, and comfort with notes of stone fruit, black sesame, and gorgeous florals of osmanthus, rose de mai, and champaca. [...] In the opening I created an accord of plum, peach, champa leaves, and pink pepper to speak to the concept of ‘nectar’, as well as to invite the wearer into a pleasure garden of one’s own. Once there, the rose de mai, violets, jasmine, and osmanthus play into the fruit nuances and open the fragrance further. Co-mingling with the florals is a satisfying counterpoint accord of black sesame which brings a sense of mystery, a bit of ‘salt on the fruit’, and a luxurious texture as we move into the dry down. The fragrance rests on a balsamic – incense – cedar wood accord, laced with tobacco and musk. This final accord, rather than taking the focus away from the sandalwood, accentuates the experience of sustenance and nourishment from the sandalwood throughout the perfume."
Kale ~ "I bet that you never thought of this “good for you / trendy” vegetable as a perfume… but it’s surprisingly delightful. We have a true love around here for fun & unusual vegetal fragrances and with KALE you get the just ripped, deep green, slightly mineral, vaguely floral, bracing crunchiness you need to keep cool this summer."
Odesa {a perfume for Ukraine} ~ "Named for the famous port city: this is the warm and salty scent of sparkling gold flickering on the waters of the Black Sea. [...] What is happening in Ukraine is beyond horrifying, devastating, unconscionable, and basically a hell on earth. I want to help. I hope that you will love this easy to wear, gorgeous true sea scent…redolent of Black Sea brine and golden (vegan) ambergris." 50% of all sales will be donated to Voices of Children for Ukraine.
Electric Summer ~ "The nostalgia filled scent of super frozen air conditioning, the electrified whir of fans in upstairs rooms, and the hot ozonic smell of humid summer air in the Hudson Valley. It’s abstract, unisex, and wonderful. Electrified air in a bottle."

* No, she did not drop 9 new fragrances at once, I am just behind as always. This is also why some of them seem out of season: I am behind.
Lots of interesting looking perfumes on the website… this is not the rabbit hole I need to fall down at the moment, lol.
