Luxury body care and fragrance line Une Nuit Nomade has launched Click Song, the first fragrance in the brand's new Une Nuit au Cap collection.
‘Click Song’, Qonggothwane, in the Xhosa language, was brought to the world by the great Miriam Makeba, a star singer in South Africa, a child of the townships who had an unimaginable destiny. She was forced to wear the wings of exile due to her strong stance against apartheid. She traveled the world making her fight known. She is considered the mother of Africa.
‘Click Song’ is a burning tribute to this extraordinary woman, a rosebud draped in a patchouli leaf, whose solid and deep roots of amber and labdanum sink into the sacred ground of its origins.
Click Song was developed by perfumer Serge de Oliveira. Additional notes include geranium, cedar and vanilla.
Une Nuit Nomade Click Song is available in 25, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Well, that IS a fine backstory. A+ for perfume copy. A fragrance about exile and freedom. Why not?
I remember the song so clearly.
The description is so very poetic.
The company seems to be taking a very respectful approach to Makeba and her legacy (I’ve read the full page on Click Song on their website) — but I wonder what she would have made of this project, not least given her comments here about the colonizers not being able to pronounce either her full name or the original title of “Click Song.” I do not know enough about Makeba to suggest an answer to that question.

She was an Icon of our country, but not sure how she would feel about a perfumed tribute.
