Saturday is David Bowie’s birthday and Sunday is National Apricot Day. We're marking all the occasions with the "visual media" version of our winter reading poll.
Tell us...
...any great tv shows you've discovered recently, and/or
...any great movies you've seen lately, and
...of course, tell us the matching perfume(s)!
Or, as always, just talk about something else.
Note: shown is Samsung's The Sero QLED 4K UHD HDR Smart TV (the screen rotates, for the young 'uns who want to mirror their smart phones).
Happy weekend everyone!
I’ve been off work since December 23… the time has flown by and my winter break is coming to a close. Returning to work on this coming Monday. But at least I got a lot of rest, could sleep long, read books, enjoy Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Today I’m wearing Aedes Cierge de Lune
https://www.instagram.com/p/CYdzDJPo9kr/
During this break I had the time to peacefully re-watch The Witcher season 1 and get into season 2. Highly recommended if you were a fan of first season. Any perfume you can associate with magic, darkness and mystery will work here.
Every male I know is both a fan of the show and the game. One of them is currently upstairs playing it 🙂
I have never played the game. I watched the other Witcher done by polish television when I was smaller so I eagerly watched the Netflix rendition.
We’ve also been watching season 2 of The Witcher – only a year to wait for season 3 🙂
That’s quite exciting. We waited 2 years for season two, no?
I actually am not watching any tv or movies right now. It just doesn’t appeal to me. So … I’ve enjoyed watching my dog run around??
SOTD is Ambre Gris. Such a warm hug on a cold, clear day.
I read yesterday’s poll this morning, and was struck by how many NSTers had a very rough day or two. Sending warm vibes to all of you and hopes that this weekend you get some measure of comfort.
I’m with you on the no tv. Dogs are much more fun & entertaining. 🙂
Howdy from the desert! We’re off for a hike wearing Box of Eels because doesn’t everyone hike wearing Chanel?!
Internet has been very limited or nonexistent, so I’m out of the loop. Hope all are well and dodging the newest iteration of ? with skill and dexterity!
We had a visitor yesterday!

Deva you know your account on insta is set to private, right?
Yep, I had changed it to public and got a bunch of unsolicited and offensive nonsense, so I had to change it back to private. Sorry. ☹️
I get it, no worries!
Can’t see the image because your account is private. Wishing you and T-Rex lots of fun and relaxation!
Sorry , see above. I won’t link any more IG photos. And thanks, we are really enjoying the sunshine and cool breezes! ?
There is a British show called Taskmaster which I *beg* you all to watch. It is preposterously good. They recently finished up their 12th season, a 13th is in the works, and the first eleven seasons are available for free on YouTube. In a nutshell, a team of five comedians are given a series of tasks to do, with their success judged and ranked by the (comedically) capricious and difficult Taskmaster. Sample tasks, which you can watch in their entirety on YouTube without committing to a season or even a whole episode: “Make this [very large] block of ice disappear. Fastest wins.” “Paint a picture of a horse while riding a horse. Best picture wins.” “Get any three of these dogs to stand on this mat at the same time. Twelve legs must be on the mat to count. Fastest wins.”
There’s also a Norwegian version, “Kongen Befaler”, which is subtitled and terrific: I just finished watching Season 4, also on YouTube. The whole franchise is a real rabbit hole. Just a warning.
Obviously no scent could capture that degree of mayhem so I randomly grabbed Tauer Phi: Une Rose de Kandahar, which I love. I could use a little more rose, because I find the tobacco dominates, but whatever — it’s such a good thing to smell like. It’s sort of perfect for the sunny but bitterly cold day that followed that snowstorm yesterday: the streets are plowed but not the sidewalks.
You smell so good! I had a bottle of Phi which I thunked a while ago. Wish it was easier to buy those Tauers.
Greg Davies is hilarious!
So apparently there was a US version for one season in 2018.
Anyone know where you can see the british version in the US?
Robin, I’ve watched the UK one on YouTube. Gotta start with Season 1.
Thanks nebbe!
Oh, this sounds delightful! I’ll check it out. And you smell great in your Phi, of course! That’s one I need to wear more often.
Taskmaster is amazing, I’ve watched most of the seasons on YouTube. Guaranteed laughs.
I’m with sistine — I’m just not much of a screen person. My spouse is constantly trying to get me to watch shows or movies that he wants to watch, and I’ll commit in theory, but somehow am just never in the mood. One of these days we need to finish Borgen. He also wants to finish The Chair, which he is enjoying more than I am (fiction about universities has always driven me up a wall). He did insist on starting The Book of Boba Fett last night, and the first episode was fine.
Over the holiday season, though, I do insist on watching old holiday specials. It’s a comfort thing. We’ve always watched the John Denver & the Muppets special on YouTube (why does Disney not release this?), as well as Colbert Christmas and the Star Wars Holiday Special. In recent years, though, we’ve added the Kate Bush Holiday Special (for sheer weirdness) and the Julie Andrews Christmas special from the ’80s with John Denver. That last one just works overall, as a straight-up holiday special.
Movie-wise, I watched “Summer of Soul” on the plane last week, and I highly recommend it.
Oh, and SOTD isn’t determined yet, but maybe something from my Ormonde Jayne sample set — I’ve never tried Ta’if, so may start there.
Ta’if is lovely.
Seconded! I think I’m on my second bottle.
Me too, Marjorie Rose!
The first time I tried Ta’if, I found it underwhelming, but when I tried it again in warmer weather, I fell in love. So if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, you might want to hang onto the sample to try later in the year if it doesn’t grab you.
I need to watch Summer of Soul.
Same. Hulu does have it, we have it on our list.
Also Questlove did the interview circuit when it came out, and it is worth listening to him talk about it (I know he was on Fresh Air, among others)
I’ll look that up, thanks!
Loved “Summer of Soul”! I enjoyed it all, but especially Stevie Wonder’s amazing musicianship, Gladys Knight (so young!), and hearing the Fifth Dimension member’s reminiscences of what it meant to them (and of course, seeing them perform).
Ange ou Demon Le Secret edp this morning, as a comfort scent. This was the first bottle of perfume I ever bought myself, and maybe the reason I found NST all those years ago? The bottle is nearly empty, and I might decide to go in search of a refill. Anyone know if it’s been reformulated since 2009 along with the newer packaging?
I’m really boring with my show watching at the moment, working my way through the back episodes of The Black List. It’s not a *good* show, but it’s not a bad show, either. James Spader is fun to watch.
You should assume that everything is reformulated on a regular basis to keep up with changing tastes, changes in the company (perhaps new management wants to make everything cheaper and therefore more profitable), and new regulations.
It might be that the reconstruction is very similar to the original, but in my experience it will never be exactly the same, and sometimes the scent is destroyed in the alteration. The only way to know is to smell it. According to commenters on Fragrantica, it was launched in 2009 as a limited edition and then rereleased in 2014, at which point it was already a different scent, so the chances of the newest version being the same as your 2009 original are not good, I’m afraid.
Yes, I sadly know the history of reformulation. I was hoping someone with knowledge of the scent would know how well a more current version mimics the original. I am not overly optimistic. It’s too bad. It’s not a work of art, but it’s pretty and holds important memories for me.
James Spader is so good in that role. I watched the first few seasons.
I’m a sucker for him!
Sotd is Vintage Bellodgia Extrait that I found for perfume math free at an estate sale a few years ago. It just sits there in its beautiful bottle so I decanted a bit and sprayed liberally. The carnation pops out, even though the bouquet is a little wilted.
We love watching Grand Designs on Netflix and were very excited when new episodes were recently released. If you haven’t seen it, the show is based in the UK and the host (on whom I have a crush:)) follows people who have taken on extensive and interesting remodel/building projects. It’s a fun way to see beautiful landscapes and creative design.
We’re vintage Bellodgia Extrait twins (owning one)! Mine is in what I assume to be a Baccarat flacon. The box is white.
I have the flacon sans box. It’s such a beauty:)
Yay for vintage perfume twins – this vintage fan loves to read it!
I watched a few of those, did not know they were still doing new episodes, thanks!
I would definitely like that show!
I didn’t think it’s something I would like and I am totally hooked. It’s so interesting to see the design and location people choose and then there’s all of the inevitable “drama” when budgets exceed the best laid plans. We’ve all been there in some way, shape or form.
Correction: It was on Netflix but now we’re getting it through Amazon Prime/Brit Box
My TV viewing has centered around US football…college and pro…in recent months, and I’m ready for that winding down. We will likely focus on Criterion Channel movies as the weather gets even colder. I may start watching Dalgliesh, since I like the PD James books.
Wearing Allure today, which I enjoy a great deal. It goes well with my cozy and cushy cashmere hoodie.
You smell delightful.
I’m reading my way thru the Dalgliesh books several of which I read many years ago. Definitely planning to watch the series! I am currently in the middle of reading Shroud for a Nightingale.
The DAlgleish series is so good. Everything about it is a win in my book. Have read some of the PD JAmes novels, but it has been a minute, so can’t say how perfectly it aligns. Just a mini disclaimer.
But we were disappointed to see there were only 3 episodes to the season! Not enough 🙂
You smell wonderful – Allure is (whispers so the others won’t hear) my favorite Chanel. I thought the 1985 version of Cover Her Face with Roy Marsden was excellent, and I read it some of James’ other books after I saw that show. I might have to run to the library next week and look for a book. But I am always a laggard on TV shows, so not likely to see the current Dalgleish anytime soon.
It took me awhile to fully appreciate “mainstream” Chanel scents…beyond Chanel No. 19, which I wore in my 20s and have always loved. I now have Allure and Gabrielle Essence, which have a bit of kinship. I was given samples of Chance Eau Tendre, which I liked more than expected but likely wouldn’t buy. Allure is very special.
Not a recent discovery, but one of the best shows I watched in the last 12 months is ‘Losing Alice’. It is an Israeli show available on AppleTV. I got my mom to watch it over Xmas break and within watching it for 15 minutes she announced she knew exactly where the show was going. Did she eat her hat at the end!!!!
No frags yet as I am trying to decide if it safe to go for a hike – looks fairly gloomy outside 🙁 after that I might try out L’Artisan Vanille Havana – my latest used purchase
Have never heard of Losing Alice and will investigate, thanks!
We’ve finished season 2 of The Frankenstein Chronicles. It was a bit slow-moving, but I quite enjoyed it and would have liked a third season. Season 2 ended without any final resolution and plenty of scope for more episodes, but no cliffhanger, so I guess the producers knew a third season wasn’t definite.
Speaking of no third season, we watched HBO’s Carnivale years ago, and were really annoyed to find that it had been cancelled after two seasons, I still haven’t recovered from that 🙂
As I mentioned above, we’ve been engrossed in season 2 of The Witcher, and watched the last episode a couple of days ago.
Perfume-wise, I’m wearing a dab of Dusita’s Anamcara. I’m still not sure about this one, when I sniff deeply, it veers between beautiful orange blossom and something plasticky.
And I am mad at HBO for cancelling Enlightened after 2 seasons. I have forgiven them enough to watch other HBO shows though 🙂
I will never forgive HBO for cancelling Enlightened and Togetherness. (I keep giving them my money tho)
10 hours sleep.
watching Better Things on Hulu. Watched The First Wave the other day. Some things I can focus on, some things I cannot.
SOTD is Silky Woods again. glad I sprung for it.
off to get haircut.
That picture is so stunning, Robin. I thought it was a Japanese narin until I read its a TV!
Yay for sleep! My husband has been suffering from insomnia lately and he slept well last night too.
Haircut twins!
What is a Japanese narin? (google surprisingly unhelpful)
Sorry, should have spelled correctly. Norins are the woven covers that are hung in doorways and windows in restaurants and bars in Japan. Some are window length and you duck under them to enter.
I have one from Osaka that I brought home and framed. It’s a door length one.
Ah, thank you apsara!
Seconding the recommendation for Better Things. I’ve never seen a show quite like it. The best way I’ve been able to describe it is that plot is secondary to tone, but that really doesn’t do it justice.
My husband and I just started watching True Detective season 3. Season 1 was glorious, season 2 was so boring we only watched 2 episodes, and season 3 is great so far!
SOTD is a spritz of TF Black Orchid from a quick stop into Sephora. I forgot how good this one is! Does anyone know how it compares to the parfum? That gold bottle is so pretty.
Hi Irisjasmine-
Actually, I just bought the Parfum in the gold bottle a few weeks ago. Although the scent is basically the same, I feel the parfume is classier and smoother if that makes sense. I love it! In fact, I just wore it yesterday.
Sounds great! Thanks for your thoughts.
Yes, thanks for these comments on Black Orchid!
That’ first season was something.
Wearing Musc Ravageur after finding a misplaced decant, I forgot how good it smells.
As far as what I’m watching, I should have tons of ideas since I’ve been watching TV nonstop but nothing leaps to mind. I started watching The Office since I didn’t get into it when it was first on television and it’s pretty hilarious. All Creatures Great and Small starts season 2 tomorrow night on Masterpiece Theater, I’m looking forward to it.
Musc Ravageur is so lovely! On me it’s huge, like POAL or Aromatics Elixer, but with a very different personality than either — it’s like wearing a gigantic sable blanket.
Ooh wouldn’t a sable blanket be wonderful? MR has a dry spice note on me that I really enjoy.
We are also looking forward to All Creatures!
Me three!
I should watch All Creatures’ first season then Season 2. I love the Yorkshire Dales!
I would love to travel there one day. Have you read the books?
I did, many years ago. Loved them! I also have a coffee table book called “James Herriot’s Yorkshire”, which is like his own travel guide to the Dales. My late mother had family in Yorkshire, so we visited a few times and I’ve been back with my own family.
We gave that book to my father years ago, we all enjoyed it. ?
Joining everyone in the excitement for S2 of All Creatures Great and Small!
SOTD = No.1 de Chanel L’Eau Rouge Fragrance Mist
The fragrance mist delivered as a mist. With my usual 8 sprays, it stayed a musky background over the 3 hours it lasted. I do think it makes a good base and I suggest a subtle fragrance with which to layer because this will get swallowed up! The bottle is a beautiful red and the Chanel packaging was nice!

I am so tempted to go out but I am hunkered down and continue to clean up. Baby steps for sure. It will take me a long time but smaller “projects” feel very doable and I always feel a sense of accomplishment. I found a few things that I knew I left somewhere (where it did not belong) and was pleasantly surprised!
Here’s my Caturday post:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CYetk4QOenu/?utm_medium=copy_link
Slow and steady wins the race everytime
There’s no other way for me.
I hear ya on that, H! 🙂
LOL! That red Chanel bottle didn’t take long at all to join your stable of perfumes!
Heh ?!
That packaging IS nice. I got my MIL no 5 shower gel and lotion for Christmas and her eyes lit up when she opened it. Came with that same red ribbon.?
I really liked it! I can’t help but think ot was leftover from the holidays but nevertheless, props!
I’m looking forward to trying L’Eau Rouge next time I am at Ulta. The packaging of this line is really making me want to get back into skin care too.
There’s no Ulta near me, not even when I’m in NYC but perhaps I should look into it more!
I bet you would love their points system. They do up to 10× point specials. It can really add up. I usually save them for 6 months then cash them in and restart. One time I ended up with 225 dollars in “free” merchandise.
Also if you order online they do alot of gwp.
I’m wearing MFK BR540 today. Our weather has veered from cold to muggy and we had heavy rains then sun. There’s an unsettling feel in the air.
I’m going to recommend a strange show Katla on Netflix. It’s set in Vik, Iceland, during a vast volcanic eruption. People have died and there’s some very peculiar events going on. It’s a bit sci-fi but the mysterious events are creepy and draw you in. Everything is covered in ash and there are big wind storms with more ash. The show is literally quite dark but the scenery is astounding. I’m watching it over again now—eight episodes. I think T Rex would be a good perfume for it with its smoke note.
Thank you Calypso…that show sounds interesting. Reminds me for some reason (probably just my own association of Iceland = cold) of that creepy show Fortitude which I watched a whole season of before realizing it was way too much for me.
No scent yet because I’m being too indecisive and keep on getting distracted by visiting family…maybe AdV Oeillet Bengale later.
I highly recommend The Chair. I could relate to so much of it professionally but I think that the cast, especially Sandra Oh, were just too good and got the tragicomedic tone just right.
I really enjoyed The Chair — agree about the tone, and I loved the way that these high-achievement, professional adults were shown to still be grapping with, or indulging in, certain irresponsible and immature tendencies. I tend to enjoy the heck out of anything that cracks open the veneer of adulthood!
Oeillet Bengale is beautiful!
Thanks for the reminder on The Chair. I had meant to watch it when it came out but it slipped off my radar. Looking forward to checking it out.
Not a tv or movie person, hard core bookworm. I do like to watch lectures or documentaries on youtube, often to help me fall asleep. 😉
I’m wearing the new Profumum Roma Dolci Pensieri. With a name like sweet thoughts, you would think it’s a gourmand, but in fact it’s a rose & geranium scent. Very potent, the 100ml bottle will last for several lifetimes.
I am split between books and tv 🙂
I don’t watch much prime-time TV. I like golf, GBBO, and old movies. I’m currently watching the US Figure Skating championships. Yesterday’s quotes for new flooring were all over the map, from $4500 to $16,000. I think I will get a few more estimates. SOTD is Camel.
The same thing happened to me when I got estimates to repaint the house last summer, ultimately I went with the company that I got the best “vibe” from. Good luck!
SOTD is Ummagumma — so good. Back from a haircut appointment and feeling ten pounds lighter (somehow the hairs grew more than usual this interval). Mr. G and I are slogging our way through House of Cards — perfume to match might be something by JAR for Claire, or Eau Sauvage for Frank. I am impatiently awaiting the Bosch spinoff (fragrance: ummm, Old Spice?) while making my way through NCIS (fragrance: wood shavings and bourbon in Gibbs’ basement). And now, thanks to irisjasmine’s comment above, I want to check out season 3 of True Detective — I agree that season 1 was fascinating and season 2 was dreadful.
What is the Bosch spinoff? I love Bosch!
I gather it will follow Harry Bosch after he resigns from the police force in disgust. I read that the actress who played his daughter in Bosch has signed on for the spinoff too.
I am listening to the new Michael Connolly right now. Harry and Renee Ballard. I drove to Pasadena today so went through three discs. Love listening to Harry while cruising through LA.
I recently finished the new one and liked it quite a bit. I like Ballard.
I’m in Shalimar MVP, which has become my default scent for non work days. Although, it’s probably safe enough for work.
Another overcast day here.? Perfect for cleaning, laundry and chicken and dumplings for dinner.
TV recently: Ted Lasso- liked it a lot and look forward to another season
Miss Maisel-loved
Clarkson’s Farm- very funny
Alone- pretty good
Great British Baking Show- what’s not to like?
Grantschester season 6- not as good without James Norton, but we keep watching because we love the other characters so much
Dead to me- I watched this on my own. I was hooked after the first episode, did not see that plot twist coming. Christina Applegate is excellent and her character says things out loud that I wish I could, lol.
Schitt’s Creek- we are late to the party and bingeing, currently on season 3- seriously lol funny.
Movies lately…
Rewatched Little Miss Sunshine with madtownteen and had forgotten how hilarious that ending is, she laughed her head off because you just do not see that ending coming.
Also, Captain Fantastic, which was hokier than I remember
The Power of the Dog- by far the best movie I’ve seen in forever
No Time to Die- James Bond, good but the ending did make me sad
I’m sure I’m missing something…..tv is a guilty pleasure around here.
I have been wanting to see No Time but now that I know it is sad I am hesitant.
Oh gosh! Sorry!? I thought it was good…lots of James Bond action, a girl, a villain, you know the usual, and the rest of my family wasn’t bothered by the end so maybe it’s just me. I would still recommend it and will probably watch it again.
Feeling very cozy in B&BW Sensuous Amber. Watched this week’s episodes of Station Eleven this afternoon. Really enjoyed the book and the series is terrific. Finished Succession (made me a nervous wreck while watching but I couldn’t stop!) last week and started The Witcher and I am digging it! My husband and I just finished reading Anne Patchett’s book of short stories and we both thought it was incredible. I made a “clean out the fridge soup” today and it was delish! ?
You smell wonderful – Sensual Amber body cream is super softening and fragrant, and I have a body spray heading for a thunk. I missed a couple chances to get the perfume, but I might look for that body cream when I run out.
Well, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to watch fewer things, but I did watch The French Dispatch last night and loved it. I feel like I need to watch it a second time to really dig in and put it all together, since it’s so kaleidoscopic and packed with detail.
It’s sunny here today, which feels downright exotic. The ground goes squish-squish when you walk on it, but I’ve managed to get some weeding and raking and light garden-tidying done. Wondering if the neighbors will be cross if I fire up the weed whip on this peaceful Saturday (it’s a big, loud, professional-grade one). SOTD is just some Weleda Skin Food for my dry, abused gardener hands.
Is there a community rule about not using noisy equipment during the weekend? If not, I say whack away.
I love the smell of Weleda Skin Food; however, the last time I used it, my hands got so itchy and felt like they were on fire and I had to immediately wash it off. I’ve used it before with no issues whatsoever and I am reluctant to use it again.
Eep! Maybe a wee patch test to see if you react again?
That would be the next step but I also use Yu-Be branded hand cream so I am not motivated right now to do thag.
* that
Hermes Poivre samarcande, wearing for the first time. It’s masculine in just the way i like, spicy but not too dry. Teensy bit of sweetness. Anyway, i like it.
Just finished watching Loch Ness, on Netflix, which was really good. Up there with Broadchurch, but only 6 episodes. The Chesnut Man was also really good, similar vibe. Highly recommend all three.
Chestnut Man was creepy–I liked it too. Must try Loch Ness now!
I just finished season two of Lucifer on Netflix. I was skeptical when I first started watching, but it has since grown on me. Tom Ellis is funny as he!l in the lead role, pun intended.
Today’s scent is Classica Donna. (these perfumes with the two or three or four names are quite confusing).
Woman Classic is pretty basic though! Who makes it, or is Classica the brand?
Hello All, cold and leftover snowy today.
If you haven’t watched Tick, Tick Boom on Netflix get to it!! Don’t have to be a musical theatre lover to love it, but if you are, half of the fun is spotting all of the living legends in cameo roles….the theatre geek’s equivalent of Where’s Waldo!! In addition to being a theatre nerd, I must also be 12 years old because I loved the Hawkeye series on Disney + –lot’s of strong interesting female characters and NYC at Christmas–what’s not to love.
Pulling out all of my incense this week to combat the cold…today is Tauer’s Incense Rose….yum.
I had not even heard of Tick Tick Boom, thanks!
Good morning and happy Sunday everybody!
I just finished Space Force (Netflix) yesterday. I put off watching it for so long because of the poorer ratings but I got to say I really quite enjoyed it! Needless to say I don’t understand the hate. So if anyone is looking for a tongue-in-cheek comedy show give it a shot.
For movie I recommend Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (also Netflix). The songs are actually pretty good (the last one, Husavik, SO good). ?
I am going to rewatch Elementary, a detective crime series that I like. There are 7 seasons so it will be a nice way to kill A LOT of time.
For perfume, I am wearing MFK Amyris Femme. I smell so pretty, ha.
I quite liked the Eurovision movie too. Will check out Space Force.
I just finished watching all five seasons of F is for Family on Netflix. It’s an animated comedy set in the 70’s written by Bill Burr. It is an adult comedy and has tons of swearing, and is not PC, but still has endearing characters.
Also on Netflix Norm Macdonald has a show. On YouTube Colin Quinn Cop Show.
I am watching And just like that on HBO Max. I can’t say I am enjoying it, but I will watch it to the finale anyway.
I am wearing Orange Sanguine all weekend for a little bit of sunshine.
I loved Norm MacDonald Has A Show! Never even heard of it until this year.
Smelling super beautiful in Japanese Cherry Blossom by B&BW lotion & Wild Cherry EdP by Mancera.
B&BW lotions and creams work really well for me. You smell wonderful.
Their lotions and creams are great for me too. But if the ever discontinue my Japanese Cherry Blossom I will never “speak” to them again
I love that Japanese Cherry Blossom scent. You smell good.
Thank You I really love it too!!
Just got my booster while wearing Lyric. Managed to finally get the new Xbox series x after waiting for 2 years to get one. It will be getting a game or two in about a week to start playing it.
Yay for booster; hope it will only work its goodness quietly!
2nd that, good luck Dawn!
Bengale Rouge for church on a cold, cold day. A spritz on each wrist and just below my neck for under my wool turtleneck. 3 hours later and I still get pleasant wafts. (My husband’s mistake in washing a wool blend turtleneck was my gain.). I need to remember how lovely this is when I’m tempted to spend money on cheaper scents.
It’s a beautiful day out there, but it’s only 10 degrees with a “feels like” of -5. Tomorrow will be colder. I may wander up to the town harbor view park later to see how far the ice has advanced.
You smell wonderful!! I love Bengale Rouge.
I’m in two Cartiers: Oud&Musc and Oud&Oud. I can’t say I’m a big fan of either, but they are fairly quiet, especially considering I sprayed four sprays They fit the overcast day we’re having.
I had an appointment at a convenient care center last night since I’m still not feeling well after the post-Christmas trip to see the grands (also sick of quarantining). I got a rapid test which was negative ( ? yay! ?). Also got a PCR test and will get those results in a day or so. When I was in the pharmacy drive thru, the guy in the next lane was picking up the same cough medicine I was getting. Ya think something might be going around?!? Okay, so that’s dark humor, but humor just the same.
One thing that struck me last night…I was waiting in my car for the nurse to stick her head out the door of the clinic to motion me in. They were being very vigilant with masks, gloves and not allowing anyone in the halls at the same time. They handled insurance and payment over the phone to get me out more quickly. Meanwhile, the patrons that entered the restaurant next door were completely mask-free. Not one person in a mask. Even the employee holding the door wasn’t wearing a mask. I’m not in health care, but if I was, I would be infuriated. My thanks and my heart goes out to those in the health care system! ❤️
I’m sorry you’re still feeling under the weather; fingers crossed that the PCR test comes back negative! I agree — I feel terrible for anyone on the front line in healthcare. They are being swamped, again, and my friends in that field tell me they feel very alone, culturally. While they know intellectually that most of us are vaccinated and wearing masks, it’s the defiant ones who stand out. I think we will lose many healthcare workers, like teachers. They’ll retire, or change fields. Just in time for our aging population to need them most. Sigh. We should be showing them massive appreciation and gratitude NOW.
Got the phone call, and test results are negative! Whew! I completely agree with you – we need to be supporting and lifting up health care workers. They deserve so much better than they’re getting.
There’s a ER nurse who comes to the dog park a couple of times a week. She says it’s a respite for her, but sometimes I inquire in such a way that she can vent if she wants to, or pass if she doesn’t. Most times, she talks. I hope it helps.
Whew on your test! And I’m sure your willingness to listen does help the ER nurse. People in the caring professions don’t always get offered care themselves, so your offer is great.
Sotd is Chanel Cuir de Russie EDP.
Planning to enjoy a clear, crisp PNW day by going on a short hike with Mr. allo.
Oh, enjoy your hike! Weather here was too crap to even do a short walk today.
It was fun, thank you, and felt good to be out on a lovely weather day. I hope you get some better weather soon 🙂
Hey friends! Welp, I survived my first week back in the office full time, at a new position/group no less (same company though). I won’t lie and say it was easy haha. I also survived driving in a snow for the first time. It wasn’t bad at first but by the time I was heading uphill on the interstate to my house it was packed down and super slippery, dark, everyone was going super slow. I was scared to death but I made it! Dry January was cut short though ?
Some things I wore this week were No. 5, Le Lion, Mohur, and Myths Man. I don’t remember what else.
In an effort to treat myself and also have a “date night” I’ve been making weekly Sunday night reservations at Denver area restaurants we haven’t tried yet. Tonight is Italian. I haven’t worn Noir de Noir in a while so I’ll probably go with that since the hubs loves it.
My TV binges lately have been (keep in mind I’m not saying they’re quality TV lol) Big Love, White Lotus, and Emily in Paris.
Congratulations on working through all the workplace newness! I hope you will love the new assignment and co-workers. I will dare to hope that in your new work group someone will think you smell wonderful and also will be a regular wearer of scent. Wouldn’t that be swell?!? Oh, and after many years of going to work in Southern USA winters, I can sympathize with “uphill…super slippery, dark, everyone was going super slow…scared to death but I made it!”
Congrats on the week and the driving!
Hi Kelly! What a week for you. Hope you have a lovely evening tonight.
Congrats on the new job — and surviving the drive! You deserve a “wet January”. What a great idea, to rotate among the local restaurants!
Hope everyone will have a good start to the week. I am looking forward to watching All Creatures Great and Small this evening. Pizza and salad on the menu will add festivity. Never settled on SotD today, but my hoodie is wafting a variety among which woody dry-downs are winning. Samsara Shine, could it be you?
Me too but I don’t think I’ll be able to stay awake to watch it. Great series!
I am looking forward to it too! I will probably wait until a few episodes are released.
Mmmm pizza and salad!
Oh man…. R.I.P. Bob Saget.
Hiya lillyjo! Wow, I missed hearing that. He was still fairly young.
Hope you and yours are well!
My son just told me that…I know the name but don’t really know him.
He played the dad in “Full House” back in the day.
Yes, read that, but never watched it and never watched it and pretty sure I never saw him in anything else.
So sad!
We watched “Don’t Look Up” for the second time with our college student son and enjoyed it thoroughly — again. Lots of dark humor and political satire, and an amazing cast. I laughed, a lot! I don’t have anything much on the agenda to watch — I’d love to see the new West Side Story but don’t yet feel like braving a movie theater. SOTD was #4 from the January Joy Box from 4160 Tuesdays, called “Rose Goes To Town”, and a marvelous rose she is!
Love that name – Rose Goes to Town!
Don’t Look Up and West Side Story are both on my watch list 🙂
When you watch “Don’t Look Up”, make sure you keep watching until after the credits, there’s a funny little addendum. The whole movie is very thought-provoking, though also very funny.
Oh good, thanks for the warning!
That’s on my list of what to watch!
Watch list triplets!
Hello to anyone still reading. I don’t post very often anymore but had the urge tonight. I don’t have a TV recommendations as I am often in bed at 8 PM. Usually after a long hot bath. SOTD was Shunkoin. i’m really surprised by how much I like it. It’s not my usual style.
For sleep, I am wearing Elixer Pour Femme on the back of one hand. It’s pretty but I can barely smell it. I have Ivory Route on my other hand. This one I like a lot sometimes and not others. . Tonight, I am enjoying it. I hope everyone is staying healthy.
Always good to see you Petunia! I hope you are staying healthy too.
The NST “night owls” are still lurking! ??
Good to see you!
Nice seeing you too!
Good to see you!
Congratulations on your move and new position. I hope you’ll be very happy with the changes.
Hi Jalapeno! Glad to hear from you!
Swanned around in Tonka Imperiale this weekend, thanks to the last split meet.
Dickinson on Apple+ is my current tv show recommendation. It just aired its final episode (3 seasons total). S1 Episode 3 may be my favorite episode of a TV show ever (directed by the great and gone too soon Lynn Shelton).
And every chance I get, I like to recommend HBO’s Show Me a Hero miniseries. Great actors, great writing, and a surprisingly gripping story based on mundane-seeming real life events.
