BirdProject Soap from Goods That Matter: "Each black, bird-shaped soap contains a handmade ceramic bird, which remains as a keepsake once the outer soap has washed away. Through the daily act of washing, you will eventually free the clean, white, ceramic birds inside - potent symbols of restoration and recovery. The soap is shaped to be cradled in your hand and is a powerful representation of all creatures affected by the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster. The soaps are made with natural, locally sourced ingredients: biodiesel glycerin, fair trade olive oil, aloe, activated black charcoal, and a light cypress scent - reminiscent of Louisianan bayous. 10% of proceeds are donated to environmental cleanup and care for affected animals of the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster. (Gulf Restoration Network & International Bird Rescue) $28,674 donated and counting!" $28.
Wonderful activism for sure but I’m hearing MUCH shattering of little birds in the shower!
Exactly what I was thinking! I’m clumsy anyway, but me in a shower + wet and soapy hands + delicate ceramic bird = CRASH.
Ah, true. To me, all bar soap is hand soap.
Yep, that’s the first thing I thought! Based on how often a slippery bar pops out of my hands and crashes into the tub, I’d better not tempt fate.
But I love them anyway.
Worried about the black/white dichotomy here. White is “clean”?
I think it fits with the oil spill thing & cleaning black oil off of birds.
I am getting the same vibe as Calypso — I get that it’s supposed to be about the oil spill but I think their copy should have been looked at more closely. Essentializing color seems counter to what I believe the company is trying to accomplish.
I would much rather have a rainbow bird for no other reason than I love colors. That said, generally speaking, haters gonna be haters no matter the color of the bird.
Thank you, Calypso!!
