Luxury niche line Clive Christian has launched Crab Apple Blossom, a new fragrance. Crab Apple Blossom is the first in the new Crown Collection, which will feature scents "inspired by" the Crown Perfumery archives.*
A modern reimagination of a historical archive scent from the Crown Perfumery, exploring 151 ingredients selected among the finest and most rare sources and a concentration of 25%. New Crab Apple Blossom contains the signature spring flower Apple Blossom as a top note combined with exotic marine bergamot for a sparkling first impression. A fruity floral character is revealed in the heart by modern notes of green rhubarb and fresh mojito fusion, before settling into a base of creamy sandalwood and aquatically aromatic driftwood. This citrus aquatic starts off bright and energizing then transitions into a delicate soft scent that trails on the skin like blossoming branches in the spring sunshine of a modern world.
Clive Christian Crab Apple Blossom is available now at Luckyscent, $450 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

*Clive Christian bought the resurrected Crown Perfumery in 1999, and discontinued the brand in 2002.
I love the scent of apple blossoms, and I’ve kept a secret hope alive that someone would produce one, but this one strikes me as every way wrong.
It would have if they would have reproduced the original and sold it for $100.
If they re-do Eau de Russe I will have to smell it, but would not pay $450 for it and if they add mojito fusion I will be tempted to sue 😉

The original Crab Apple was gorgeously delicate, Robin – many, many years ago when Crown was resurrected (but before CC got his grubby hands on the business!) & had a standalone shop in London’s Burlington Arcade, I bought a bottle of Crown Ess Bouquet & was given with samples of practically every other fragrance I’d sniffed & said I liked as a ‘thank you’ for making the purchase. Crab Apple definitely appealed but by the time I was next in London the shop had gone, sadly.
Oh how cool — I assumed it was a much older & longer discontinued scent.
I never understood why CC bought Crown at all. Supposedly it is the formula for one of his scents (1872?) but still.
Based on your 1999/2002 timeline, Robin, would think my purchase was in mid/late 90s then. You may already be aware that CC’s business at that time was bespoke, very upmarket kitchen manufacture/installation, & he since seems to have branched out to other bespoke room furnishing manufacture. After he had taken over Crown, I made a point of popping into his Glasgow showroom to see if they stocked the fragrances, which they did, but it was the 1872 range you mention – assume it was before he started offering the Crown fragrances in their new incarnations – anyway, had a chat with the gentleman there who told me that CC had bought the Crown Perfumery name/formulations/goodwill for his daughter to operate as her own business. Not sure how that’s panned out…!
Yes, she used to (and probably still does) come to the Sniffapalooza events and give presentations. She has certainly upscaled the business, that’s for sure.
Another perfume house that just seem to have lost its way…
They have found the way to bigger profits, that’s for sure.
I’m just not enthused about paying $450 for a citrus aquatic. It might be lovely, though.
