It's Halloween, and we're expecting a blue moon. Plus, if you live in a daylight savings state, it's time to fall back. (RIP Sean Connery.)
So this weekend, we're building a listening list, in case you don't feel like reading or watching tv. Tell us about any great audio content: podcasts, audio books, even new music or streaming radio stations.
And of course, tell us what perfume you're wearing today, and/or what fragrance we should be wearing when we listen to your content.
Or, as always, just talk about something else.

RIP Sean Connery, my favorite James Bond ever!
And Happy Halloween! ?????. Planning to relax today watching scary movies, eating a couple of boston cream donuts and having a glass or two of wine with sushi tonight.
Wearing Dame Chocolate Man to keep the sweet mood around!
Wishing everyone a nice and healthy weekend!
I was binge watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer recently.
But, it’s Saturday, so that means college football. Nice to see the sun in NY again! Would love to be wearing a chocolate scent.
Love Buffy! I mentioned below that I’ve been listening to the Buffering Cast, which is a great Buffy podcast. It’s a welcome escape when I need it these days. ?❤️ (Closest I could find to a stake!)
Rewatching Buffy is going on my list. My tolerance for any sort of realistic drama right now is nil. Bring on the creepy ghouls!
I have the DVDs from wayback, and I find it very reassuring!
I LOVE Buffy! 🙂
Waving to all the fellow Buffy fans. I was in high school when the show started and college when it ended and was watching all through. It was the show that meant most to me during those important years. We watched the season 2 Halloween episode yesterday, and I could see doing a whole series rewatch this winter.
I started my recent binge with the episode “Hush”, which is one of my favorites and then the Thanksgiving one, which makes me LOL. Especially Spike, “I came, I saw, I conquered. I feel really bad about it.”
Sounds like a perfectly relaxing weekend ?
Boston Creme! My favorite. ?
Me2 on Sean Connery PL67!
I’d love a donut like that.
Sounds like a cozy day.
Enjoy.
Happy Hallowe’en!??
Bendelirious for a spooky little barbeque with some friends.
Current playlist:Roìsin Murphy,Simulation on the album is from 2012,but O.M.G.Still fabulous, esp the 11 minute remix.
Happy Saturday spooky peeps!??
Enjoy your barbeque! ??
Thanks,we got rained out!
Also no blue moon sighting because it is POURING down right now!??
Sorry about that Johano. I hijacked the sun for a day. You can have it back tomorrow ??
Loving Roisin Machine myself. I feel she is really underappreciated (especially in the US). Great choice.
Am I 1st? Nice.
Having a weird Saturday I have to admit.
Yesterday our Prime Minister made a decision on closing all cemeteries betweem 31/10 and 2/11 due to All Saints’ Day tomorrow. This was supposed to prevent masses of people visiting the graves of their relatives and slow down the increase in covid cases.
Still we had 21.9k new people with the virus and things are looking rather unoptimistic. The government says they want to postpone lockdown as long as possible but I don’t know how long we can resist.
I’m wearing Cierge de Lune for some comfort and an invisible hug from this beautiful perfume. I need to cheer up despite difficult times.
Stay safe Lucasai!
You too!
lucasai, sending you another invisible hug. I’m wearing Copal Azur from the recent splitmeet, so the hug is super fragrant, and hopefully all the more comforting for it.
Thank you! I love Copal Azur. Aedes is a very solid brand (there was only 1 perfume so far that I truly didn’t like from them)
Sending hugs and positives vibes. Stay safe!
I appreciate 🙂
You smell great! I like this perfume a lot.
I realize that the measures are serious for your country, so I hope it’ll help to slow down the pandemic.
Be safe!
Thank you my dear.
Yes, the situation is getting very serious right now.
Stay safe and stay well and find comfort in great perfume!
Perfume might be small but is importsnt even in those days.
Sending you positive vibes and a virtual hug.
Thank you
Stay safe, it looks very scary in a lot of Europe.
Yup, many of surrounding countries are going into lockdown again.
Take care of yourself as best you can, and find joy in what you can. That’s about all we can do anymore! Sending hugs.
I’ll try. Thanks for good wishes.
Take care of yourself, lucasai. And allow me to say trust your scent is perfect.
You take care too, AnnE
Beautiful things are especially important in ugly times. They bring joy and help us remember what and why we work or strive or (this time) pause for change. I hope you are able to take comfort and joy in your scents.
I agree
Ughhh. This damn plague is so tough. Exhausting. Scary. Sad. Relentlessly sad. Sending hugs!
Today I am in a drop of vintage Parfum d’Hermes because you need to wear these rarities before they go sideways on you, and because if I had to choose one scent for the rest of my life, it’d be that one. Not that anyone is asking me to, but it’s good to plan ahead just in case. As the last eight months have amply demonstrated, you never know what’s coming next.
Audio content? I listen to over 20 different podcasts and can juuuuust barely keep up, but I would have to recommend everyone listen to No Such Thing As A Fish, which is four brainboxes who work on the British quiz show QI discussing their four favourite facts from the past week (i.e. “In India, you automatically get a government job if you qualify for the Olympics, and if you win a medal, you get a promotion”). If you love random facts and not-afraid-to-cuss Brits discussing them to hilarious effect, then you really need to hear this.
I am a huge QI fan! I thought Stephen Fry could never be replaced, but I’ve developed a serious girl-crush on Sandi Toksvig.
So am I, and ditto on Fry and Toksvig. I think she is doing an amazing job.
Wait, from Great British Baking? Is that why she left, to go to QI?
Yes, that’s her. I don’t know the timeline for when she took over as QI host or left GBBS, so can’t answer your second question. I don’t watch GBBS, but I really enjoy QI, and on that show she’s just so whip-smart and snarky that I adore her.
I think she did both at the same time at some point. She used to be one of my favourite guests on QI before she became its presenter. I don’t really watch GBBO but have seen some clips with her in it. She is just hilarious.
Thanks both! I will have to give QI a try one of these days.

Just some of Sandi’s best bits
Yes to Parfum d’Hermes! You smell beautiful. A friend shared a sample with me, Pd’H is swoon-worthy. 😉
Oooh excellent. Just added it to my Spotify faves! Sounds perfect.
Good for you on using and enjoying those vintage treasures!
Happy Halloween! Wearing my witchy fragrances today. Clinique Wrappings and then just a dab of Aromatics Elixir at the pulse points. I find these two layer nicely together. My favorite podcasts are My Favorite Murder, You Must Remember This and Old Gods of Appalachia. Also been listening to lots of good music on Spotify and building my playlists and do not mind paying for the privilege. Everything from Frank Sinatra to Bowie, Americana, Blues, Jazz and the under regarded classical American composers from the early 1900s.
It never even occurred to me to layer them, because each of them by itself is SO MUCH. But I bet they are really good together, that high-wattage shine plus that twilit moodiness.
That’s a perfect description….
gosh, Wrappings is perfect for today. 🙂 You smell fantastic.
Just started OGoA… perfectly creepy for this time of year!
I’m wearing Wednesday, from Smell Bent’s Heroine collection, I’ve loved the Addams Family since the New Yorker cartoon days.
go Team Wednesday! She’s my favorite Addams. Dark humor is sometimes the best humor.
Since the pandemic started, I’ve been listening to a lot more radio. My local public alternative music station is WXPN, and they’re pretty good but now that I have the radio on nearly all day, I get annoyed at how many songs they repeat.
So after doing some looking around I’ve mostly settled on KUTX, which is the public alternative station of U of Texas Austin. They play a wider variety of music than XPN, which is probably good because I’m hearing things that are not my usual…
Have also spent some time listening to a New Orleans station (WWOZ) and a Portland OR station (KXRY).
If anyone has other favorites do share!
Generally I love listening to the radio but now in this autumney weather I especially turn on some online radio stations that play jazz or smooth jazz. It’s a good time of the year for this kind of music.
KPLU can be streamed and has an amazing jazz line up
My favorite is The Current, the current music stream from Minnesota Public Radio. I used to listen to it on the radio when I lived in Minneapolis, and I’ve been streaming it since we moved in 2013.
thecurrent.org
Try KEXP in Seattle! They have an app so you can easily stream it from anywhere, and I love their variety and their DJs.
I love KEXP!
Ditto!
Definitely KEXP. My favourite, going back two decades now. John Richards and Cheryl Waters and Kevin Cole are amazing (though I know Cheryl’s on a bit less now, I think, due to health issues). That was MY STATION when I lived in Seattle and now if I’ve got time to put radio on in my office while I’m working (which sadly isn’t that often as I’m on meetings) I listen to them.
Yes! Love the KEXP app and the concerts on YouTube.
As a former (or reformed? ha!) transplant to the tri-state area, and even after more than 10 years gone, I still miss WNYC (public radio) and WQXR (classical music).
Classical radio is one of my favorites for Halloween, it is entertaining to hear macabre, dark music from 100s of years ago.
If you happen to have Sonos, you can listen any radio station. I’m in NJ and love WQXR, but I love exploring (WWOZ is a fave).
excellent! thank you for the tip 🙂
Thank you for the recs everyone!
Washington DC’s WPFW has jazz from something like 9 or 10 am to 5 or 6 pm on Sundays, and the programs are archived for one week, so you can listen any time. The DJs are private music lovers who share their collections. Great stuff!
There are some evening and overnight jazz programs, too, but I’m not up to date on what’s what.
NOTE: If you open one of the programs that should be jazz and find something else playing, such as gospel, that’s because the DJ’s often start a song just before their program ends and then it carries over into the next hour. They are archived strictly by time slot.
If you are streaming radio stations, you might want to check out KTCL. They were playing alternative music when I was in college in Fort Collins CO.
Thanks nozknoz and Jalapeno! Will have plenty to check out this week 🙂
Hi all!
PSA: You can get 20% off at L’Occitane with code FRIEND (in the US, don’t know about elsewhere), between now and Nov. 3rd. Just reupped my hand cream stash and bought a bottle of Eau des Baux.
Listening! I listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts.
Two of my favorite audiobooks of all time are: Scott Brink reading Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood (Brink is a great reader, and I’ve listened to several books just because he was reading them). And apropos for this time of year, the audiobook for I am Legend is really immersive and creepy.
For lighter reading, I return again and again to the Harry Potter audiobooks and to the Dresden Files series (read by James Marsden, who plays Spike in the Buffy universe).
Some fun podcasts!
I’ve recently discovered the Buffering Cast, which is a queer, feminist fandom podcast discussing all things Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I’ve listened through most of the first 2 seasons of the shows so far, and it’s really fun! When I need an escape, it’s been serving that purpose for me.
For my nerdy, fitness part of my brain, I love Stronger By Science, in which the hosts discuss the latest research on weightlifting and bodybuilding.
If you’re looking for a healthy, balanced approach to weight loss/maintenance, I love the ladies at Balance365 Life Radio.
Other fitness podcasts I enjoy:
The Dumbbells (improv comics/actors talking lifting and fitness)
Iron Culture (philosophy, history, and science of lifting)
Fiction podcasts:
Homecoming (longform, serialized, highly produced)
The Truth (usually single-episode short stories, usually creepy)
True Crime podcasts:
True Crime Garage
In the Dark
I listen to lots of others for news and politics. Podcasts have become my connection to society during the isolation of the pandemic. I listen and take my daily walks. Looking forward to learning about what you all are listening to!
MRose, I will listen to just about anything Scott Brick reads.
Mostly been listening to playlists while I am working, right now lots of Cream, Bob Dylan, Sia and housemusic. Plus political podcasts.
My newly widowed neighbor had her sister and nephew arrive from Copenhagen last night. I am beyond grateful they were able to get compassionate visas.
Going to Pasadena to get hair cut, SOTD is Volutes EDP.
Stay safe all
Yes! Scott Brick! (I see I misremembered his name, thanks for the correction!) Suck a great voice and wonderful phrasing!
SUCH a great voice! Seriously need an editor today!
Great! The pandemic has had a paradoxical effect on me and Iv been working on fitness and strength building. Iv been using what I have – a 2k kettlebell and resistance bands – but am becoming interested in lifting etc. Maybe even joining a gym (blow the trumpets) when all this is over. Thanks for the podcast references – I will look them up!
Yay, so great! I LOVE strength-training, and as my podcasts show, I’m super nerdy about it! (I’m a biologist by education and science and health teacher by profession, so it comes to me naturally!) I think lifting is especially powerful and can be so empowering for women in particular. Another great resource for newer lifters is Nia Shanks.
I’m really stoked about not having to ask for help with opening bottles anymore! ? (Watch the next jar I encounter being extra stubborn now, Lol!)
It really is life-changing to be able to do these little things for ourselves! (Tip, stay independent with those stubborn jars by turning them upside down and banging them on the counter a few times before you twist them open. Works for me every time!)
Thanks for the PSa!
Hope you find something worth the discount!
MR, you get an enabler pin! I’ve been looking for Eau de Baux nearly a year, L’Occitane has been out of stock for months. And 20% off, plus another 10% at one of those cashback sites, I am doing a little happy dance.
Congrats on your new bottle of honeyed cypress!
Oh, that pin will look lovely on my ‘fit (as one of my kids called my costume yesterday)! So glad you could make use of the code! What a deal!
Whoa! Lots of great recommendations. I’m going to have to make a list from your post and so many others on today’s thread.
Do report back if you find something you love!
Thanks for all of the great tips (and thanks for enabling…)!
I adore L’Occitaine products.
What do you like to get from L’Occitane?
I love the 25% Shea Cream, their Shea Butter lip balm, the 100% Shea Butter in the metal tin and their wood grain soaps which are no longer made. The Shea lavender or verbena are wonderful.
I used to work at a perfume shop on St. Armand’s Circle that sold their products (and many other fantastic items)…
uh-oh! Those L’occitane handcreams are divine, and Eaux des Baux has been on my wishlist for a loooooooong time. It is my birthday month for one more day so . . . 😉
and thanks for mentioning The Dumbbells, I adore improv.
I am really noticing how much harder the cold, dry winter days are on my hands as I’ve entered into middle age! I can use hand cream many times a day to keep things from cracking. (Doesn’t do anything for the calluses from lifting, but I kinda like those. I’ve earned them!)
I hope you like the Dumbbells! They’re mostly talking fitness, but they get sidetracked and silly often, and many of their guests are from UCB and similar improv communities.
yes! winter is the worst on my hands, and with so much extra handwashing and sanitizing these past months, my knuckles get chapped and burn.
One silver lining – I recently rediscovered how much I love the smell of Nivea creme. It’s a pretty floral, and my hands love it, too. 😉
I watched “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in its original run. I’ve met college students in the last few years who were too young to see it at the time, but are fans now. I got depressed about all the sympathetic characters who were killed off in later seasons, and I wasn’t a fan of Dawn. (Just saying. I really don’t want to get into a discussion about Dawn.) I found it a bit jarring that Willow had dated Oz, and then when he came back for an episode, she told him that she was gay. I thought, “Bisexuality is a thing.” Anyway…
I know I watched “Buffy” regularly through the first four seasons at least, but missed some episodes in the last couple of seasons. I’m glad you’re enjoying the podcast, though. I thought that the first three seasons were the best, but I remember enjoying some episodes from later seasons. I liked Tara.
Have a good rest of the weekend! 🙂
Dawn. [eye roll]
I really appreciate that Joss and the writers took the themes seriously and didn’t dumb down the ideas just because it was about high school students. And although it can be problematic in places, it really was groundbreaking with its feminist perspective at the time. On the podcast recently, they had a great conversation in which one of the hosts argued that Faith was coded as Black, and she made a pretty convincing argument! (The show was very white.) It’s that sort of thoughtful analysis that has me rewatching with a new perspective and enjoying the show again beyond simple nostalgia.
And yes, bisexuality is definitely a thing! I remember being irked at that one, too!
I am wearing Fils de Dieu this evening waiting for our guests to arrive for pizza night. Thankfully two households can still meet in Germany, so it’s legal.
We do a make your own pizza dinner so everyone can choose his toppings. Plus a big salad and wine and ice cream for dessert.
I am listening to a audio version of Locke and Key at the moment. No podcasts at the moment.
You smell so good! I really enjoyed Locke and Key.
Enjoy your get together tonight
Sounds like a wonderful evening!
SOTM is Cuir Ottoman. Two plants I ordered (one rose and one hydrangea, both container-sized) arrived yesterday, so I’ll spend some time mixing soil and clearing out a couple of large pots for those – it’s probably the last of our lovely weather here so the plants got here just in the nick.
For the poll, I listen to an internet radio station called The Jazz Groove all day long during weekday work-from-home days. I’ve become very fond of two jazz trumpeters, Chris Botti and Til Bronner, because of that station. Weekends are more hit-or-miss until winter, and then I listen to whatever the local NPR affiliate has running.
I just planted 5 hydrangeas that I rooted from clippings earlier in the summer. I hope they all take! I love them so much. They are wonderful nearly year-round. Enjoy your gardening!
Yay, what kind?
We grow oakleaf, peegee and regular…now I realize I don’t know what the regular are even called, that’s silly.
Haha! Yes, I was looking up varieties trying to identify them, and I ended up thinking of them as “regular,” too! I wandered through the neighborhood to get clippings–so I don’t actually know which ones survived rooting. I know for sure 2 of them are from a friend’s yard, and they’re fragrant with lacy, white flowers. The rest may be the “regular” blue globe type, and hopefully one or two has the lacy-style blue flowers.
I love hydrangeas too – they were my wedding flowers. I’ve had trouble growing the blue mop-head variety, but an oakleaf on the other side of the yard is going great.
I started my morning in SSS Incense Pure which is absolutely gorgeous. Prepared a pot roast for the slow cooker, went for a walk, got started on a chocolate orange babka (if anyone is interested in the recipe you can find it on the BBC Good Food website), will take a shower and probably wear Rose de Petra after.
To get my “dose” of Paris from the couch, I will be watching a French series on Netflix called Dix Pour Cent (Call my Agent). It’s fairly entertaining and not as silly (nor chock-full of cliches) as Emily in Paris.
Happy (Halloween) weekend to all of you!
Mmm orange babka sounds soo yummy
I second this.
Uh, 3rd. Want some now.
In my best Seinfeld voice- “what?… there’s an orange babka?” ?
Perfume house twins on Halloween!
I appreciate the list of listening items. I haven’t done much listening in the past, but have done so more recently. This is really helpful, and I’ve already ordered one of the Dresden Files books with an Audible Credit.
Orchidée Vanille today. Got up very early, watched College Game Day and will be likely answering multiple texts from the NYC Sheriff confirming I understand my quarantine rules. Gotten two so far today. Since I know the drill, I’ll be far less irritable this time around. Hey, if Noah could handle being in that ark, I can handle two weeks of being at home.
Well he did have a massive floating zoo for entertainment!
Super you got back before Cuomo implemented his new testing quarantine testing again rule for out-of-state except bordering states policy!
Actually, we prefer the new rules and would rather follow those. I’d have happily gotten a test before flying and then one after return that lets me out of quarantine sooner. Far less onerous. Probably only shaves a little, given the wait for results, though.
I’m wearing FL/18 by A.N. Other today and smelling fabulous.
I listen way more than I ever watch.
Favorites:
1) Streaming radio station – thecurrent.org. – Want some Fugazi with your Lizzo? This is the place.

1) Code Switch
2) Men in Blazers
3) Guardian Football Weekly
4) Lore
5) American Perfumer
6) That Awful Sound
Albums/ artists I’ve loved recently:
1) Best Coast
2) Run the Jewels
3) Lianne La Havas
4) Bishop Briggs
5) The Sting/ Shaggy collaboration album makes me smile every time I listen to it.
I’ve meant to try Code Switch!
I really like Code Switch.
Sistine, thanks for the list, Code Switch is the only one I know.
As a sloth-at-heart I need a lot of encouragement to do any exercise. Music that energises me is Rammstein, Blutengel, a ‘neopagan’/folk group called Heilung and VNV Nation.
I started off with Lush’s Dirty today but upped the ante with SMN’s Vetiver later on – very good for cutting through the heat. I’ll probably swap for something vanilla after my shower before bed!
Was just making something with essential oil and got some Vetiver EO on my hands and wondering if any Vetiver perfume is better than pure EO?!
It depends on how you love your vetiver?? I do love Miller Harris (smokey w/ tobacco) and Annick Goutal’s Vetiver (citrus/green). Guerlain’s Vetiver will always be a favorite…
My bottle of EO is old and maybe the scent is especially rounded – I’m not sure! The SMN combines a Rich Vetiver with rosewood. I do like it – I also like Etro’s combination with liquorice (though I don’t own it.) I loved Guerlain’s – used most of a bottle – but right now it’s a bit too acidic for me. For a refined Vetiver the Dior Prive is magnificent too… Unfortinately I don’t think Iv tried the AG. An I may have tried Miller Harris but I don’t remember it (I don’t think it’s abailable here for smelling anymore).
Overall I would say Vetiver is one of my favourite notes ?
Rammstein! Thinking of their music transports me directly back to dark basement dances in college!
Sounds like you had a great time in college!
Nah. Mostly I was a total nerd, studied hard, worked my jobs, and went to bed by 10pm nearly every night. But I had some super-fun gamer friends who would throw dance parties and drag me out for a bit before I turned into a pumpkin.
Try Deichkind if you like Rammstein 🙂 ‚Remmidemmi’ is their big hit. different style but pretty cool too
Just listened to that track and I DO like. Thanks for the recommendation!
Ooooooh, happy to hear about some of these “Rammstein-like” bands! I’ll have to give them a listen.
It’s a gorgeously sunny Saturday! We went and got a pumpkin to carve – better late then never.
I have been listening to my old CDs more. Lots of Tracy Chapman, Alanis Morissette, Damien Rice, Souad Massi and Reem Banna.
In PPP Venitiane and will switch to Theorema later
I’ve been listening to my CDs as well, especially in the car, during my commute to and from work (when I would normally turn to NPR but even that is too much for me these days).
Thank you for the SSS Incense Pure swap again, I really like it. I may have to get a small bottle during their next sale.
Did you end up moving to Texas?
I’m glad the Incense Pur worked for you! I’m going to have to give it another go now that it’s cold. It was too much for me during warmer weather.
We are moving to Texas right after Thanksgiving. Can’t wait! It will be a nice reprieve for a couple of months from winter
oh, do have fun with your jack-o-lantern carving. 🙂 My littles are college age now. I miss the excitement of pulling the guts out of a pumpkin.
I got the gut pulling role ?
Damien Rice. Sigh. I need to dig that out.
I’m afraid I’m no use on the listening front. We’ve had a bit of a wifi mess in our house since the fires in August — we had to get a new internet provider when our old one’s tower burned down — and our Sonos system refused to play nice with the new wifi network, so. That finally seems to be fixed as of yesterday — we were able to resurrect the old network — so maybe music is possible again in this house. Wait, isn’t technology supposed to make things better? LOL. For some reason I prefer quiet these days anyway.
Altho I was listening to the idiots in the canyon below us do a bongo drum concert at 1 am this morning. Yawn.
Perfume! Right! will probably dive into the sample sea. I am trying to get thru all my samples by the end of the year. Seems doable.
Ah bongo drums…that makes me think of a Laurie Anderson recitation where she mentions neigbors playing bongo drums while she was attending a seance with a ouija board…lolz.
Bongo drums always make me think of Matthew McConahey. ?
I started trying to get to the end of my samples at the beginning of September and now I’m farther away than ever. I was diligently working through a big metal tin of samples, mostly decants, hardly touching my full bottles at all, and then a couple of nights ago digging for my backup bottle of Safran Troublant for the community wear on Friday, I discovered almost a shoeboxful of commercial samples that I had actually forgotten about, stuff I’ve had for a decade or more. I’ll never get through them all.
Ha! I know. And did I order a few more samples this week? Why yes. Yes I did. Hopeless….!
Hahaha! This is when the freebiemeet comes in handy.
idiot bongo drums! 😀 hahahaha! sorry tho! 😉
I’m visiting my mother for the weekend to celebrate her 90th birthday. She didn’t want a big celebration, but she’s done lots of little things – taking friends to lunch last week, we had lunch with cousins yesterday, and I’m helping her put on morning tea at church this morning. I’m very grateful that New Zealand is in a good place with COVID-19, I was so hoping that my mother would be able to do the things she’d planned. She did much the same for her 80th, and didn’t expect to still be here to do it all again 🙂
I’ll be very stylish in Bois des Iles.
And so sorry to read about Sean Connery, he was the first James Bond that I saw and he remains the best.
Happy birthday to your mom!
Oh how good! New Zealand gives me hope.
Happy Birthday to your mom!
Happy Birthday to your mom! You do smell stylish indeed.
Happy birthday to your mom! You smell wonderful in BdI.
Belated Happy Birthday wishes for your mom!
I’m just listening to my CDs, I don’t really want to hear talking right now, even if it’s funny. I planted some lunaria seeds in a pot last spring that look like they need to be transplanted into the ground, so I might do that today along with the laundry and a walk when it warms up a bit. I’m wearing Sarrasins.
I’m with you on not wanting to hear talking.
Quiet and solitude is so comforting.
Music: CAAMP
Fragrance: A City On Fire
Banjo music.
I have been stuck in a rut music-wise lately, so thanks to everyone for your recommendations. I’ve just put on one of my favorite stations, RadioNova. It’s on Sonos and the Tune-in app. Their tagline is “Le Grand Mix,” and they play lots of music I’ve never heard before, some in French, plus a fair amount of funk/soul/Motown. Weird but fun.
I went for my fall comfort scent today with Vetiver Oriental. Tonight I think I’ll switch to L’eau Capitale.
I will have to check out RadioNova, I use Tune-in once in awhile.
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell is an absolutely wonderful audio book and the narration is superb.
Bonus for me was listening to it over two weekends while finally painting the living room (on my list of things to do since the beginning of quarantine)!
Yay, congrats on getting the painting done.
You inspired me!! ?
Spent the day in Passage d‘Enfer.
I‘ve been waiting for some sort of offer from L‘Artisan for this one. Or a 10 or 30ml bottle. But don‘t really need 100ml (of anything) so not really prepared to pay full price…
No podcasts at the moment. although when I do listen to them I enjoy Hardcore History (the 2nd world war series is *really* good) and No such thing as a fish. Music wise I‘ve been all over the place. Have been listening to some various random tracks on repeat from Mika, Sofi Tukker, Camp Claude, interspersed with Heavy metal and 80‘s anything.
+1 for 80’s anything.?
And I’ll put in +1 for Heavy Metal. ??
Hi all, It’s really a “lazy” weekend poll for me since I’m still back on the Old Spice thread. My father wore it when I was young and your comments prompted me to get a bottle. He’s been gone for 8 years but smelling Old Spice was akin to a visitation – a very sweet visit. And prompted by the theme of emotionally evocative scents, I wore vintage Miss Dior EdP and could hear my mother’s high heels “clicking” across the linoleum kitchen floor. Very nostalgic and a little sad. Today I’m wearing CSP Vanille Abricot and though I’m not usually a big fan of sweet gourmand scents, I find this one very cozy and comforting. Lastly, watching The Bureau, a “smart and stylish French spy series” starring Mathieu Kassovitz of Amelie fame. Very good so far.
Old Spice is SO GOOD! you smell wonderful 🙂
Thank you!
Forgot to mention this from the side of the Old Spice box:
“If your grandfather hadn’t worn it, you wouldn’t exist.”
Ha!
Oh my!
LOL
classic scent, classic Dad Joke! 🙂
???
No doubt true for some humans 🙂
My dad was an Old Spice guy too!
SotD = Ambre Narguile
AN smells like autumn to me. I like something spicy on a sugary holiday like today, makes a nice contrast. I hope everyone finds some moments of sweetness today.
Presently I’m listening to Mozart’s Requiem Dies Irae, music that’s full of impending doom and fire. It’s perfect for a day like today, when darkness looms as the days grow shorter, and the underworld is (figuratively) creeping closer.
Surely enjoyed reading everyone’s listening choices. Music is a wonderful source of connection in these strange times. And a funny podcast is just the thing to put some pep in my giddyap! 🙂
You smell great tiffanie! I might wear that tomorrow.
Me too. I had forgotten about this, and now the weather & calendar is right.
thanks, lillyjo! 🙂 I hope your Sunday smells delicious.
It did! I wore Ambre Narguile. ?
I love the whole requiem, but that is the apex!
absolutely the apex! sometimes I catch myself holding my breath when I listen, those voices crackle with energy.
Hello all and happy Halloween! My SOTD is Magie Noire by Lancome. My favorite podcasts are Wake Up To Politics by Gabe Fleisher, Planet Money on NPR, Food Heaven Made Easy, and My Favorite Murder.
Magie Noire is the perfect pick for Halloween! You smelled great!
Thank you! This just hit the spot. 🙂 And boy was yesterday’s full moon gorgeous!
Planet Money can be a lot of fun to listen to. The hosts are very engaging.
RIP Sean Connery..
They don’t make men like him anymore 😉
The kids have so much halloween candy, I keep eating their Swedish fish..someone come take the bags away..

Music Lists:
When I am cooking in the kitchen I listen a lot to the oud, Le Trio Joubran (Masar is my favorite song) Encen Mythique to match,
When I am trying to practice my Italian, Tiziano Ferro, any Italian perfume house will do
I listen to alot of oud – specifically Nasser Shama – when I’m writing
I will look for Nasser and take a listen
Color me completely surprised, but I’ve been so good! One mini Heath bar and that’s it.
I have not been good..all the sugar and I woke up with a sore throat this morning.
Ouch, that’s no fun. I hate sugar hangovers…
L2MG, I didn’t realize Sean Connery was a former bodybuilder. Some of his early pictures, wow. He was quite the looker….
Google these photos pronto
Happy Halloween! Today’s sotd is Sucre et Fleurs, a little sweet n’ spicy for the occasion and the weather. I also wore my cat-ears, slightly ‘fancier’ make-up than usual, my dragon earrings, and my brand new no-slip work shoes that did not give me any trouble at all. On the way home I drove down the street where all the houses are decorated to the nines for the holiday, and it just seems so strange to see it dark and deserted, with only a couple of cop cars hanging around. Such a waste of a perfectly spooky-ish evening.
I did not know about Sir Sean until I came here. R.I.P.
Fun earrings! Our street was deserted last night too, we didn’t get a single trick or treater. Sad.
Happy Halloween! We’re not doing anything for the holiday this year. When I was young I enjoyed celebrating Halloween. Now that I’m older, this part of autumn, as it gets darker and colder (in the Northern hemisphere), is just sort of a weird time of year for me. I really need to start using that bright sunlight-like lamp at a regular time in the mornings.
At bedtime last night, I put Jicky on. That was a pleasant, relaxing scent for me to experience as I faded off to sleep. 🙂
Oh, I forgot to say that I did manage to plant more of the bulbs from that box I got in mid-October. Giving some away to friends seemed to take off some of the self-induced pressure I was feeling about planting all of them. lol
I planted the double tiger lilies and the rest of the regal lilies. I planted several more hyacinths, the Byzantine gladioli and the surprise lily (Lycoris). The Formosa lily and the regal lilies are supposed to be fragrant, and of course the hyacinths are.
I love Jicky for bed time. It’s so soothing….
I agree this time of year is kind of a weird time. I hate the shorter days and just push through until December 21 and then breath a sigh of relief that the days start getting longer again. I’ve been eyeing sunrise alarm clocks on amazon, anyone have any experience/feedback on them?
You are spot on with how this is a weird time. Especially this year.
Glad that you found a good sleep scent!
It was a long night at work, and I wore MJ Decadence. This is really a great perfume if you like saffron.
During the shutdown, I decluttered most of my CD collection. I pretty much just listen to the radio. I used to listen to a.m. talk radio in the car, but for some reason now, I can’t get a.m. to come in. I’m unhappy about that because that’s where I get my weather and traffic updates while driving.
Heh, I’m no help to you because however way I fiddled with the buttons, I managed to get WCBS … I don’t even know if it is AM or FM…doesn’t matter because I have never changed it.
I’ve ripped a bunch of my music CD’s onto my laptop, so I can listen to them again. The CD player I had been using was broken years ago when a cat sat on it. ?
R.I.P. Sean Connery. How can he be 90???
SOTD = DSH L’Or{ris} A Golden Orris Perfume; Iris Trilogy No.2
I call this party in a bottle with its bubbly aldehydes, prosecco accord, sandalwood and the many facets of orris / iris.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CHB9CEyh1Ci/?igshid=be6srg0gw3sl
If you haven’t done so yet, you should go read Lucas’ Iris Trilogy perfume reviews.
As to the listening poll, I am a creature of habit and the ultimate in laziness. I would be willing to bet that no one even comes close to me. Radio – WCBS regardless of what’s on, even if it’s baseball, hockey, whatever…and I only listen to it when I’m in my bedroom because it comes out of my radio alarm and I’ve never changed the station, ever, except when I got it new and had to pick something. For my walks, which I managed to do today after many days of not walking (blame it on the weather), I’ve been stuck on Vince Guaraldi Peanuts Portraits since June. Can anyone top my laziness? ?
I could probably top your laziness in other categories, but you have me beat with the radio?
Heh, at least I am #1 on something innocuous ?
Do you always listen though or does it sometimes function as white noise?
It functions as both. Even if it is white noise, I do sometimes get the piece of news I missed the first go-around.
You remind me! My radio alarm clock, which I got as a gift when I was 12 (30 years ago) finally died a month or two back. The clock works, but no radio. [tears] I need a new one, and I want it to be nice, well-made and last the next 30 years.
Anyone got a favorite?
I will spend real money if it isn’t garbage that will die in a year, so absolutely DONE with buying cheap garbage.
Wish I could help with the radio alarm clock rec. I haven’t seen one of those in decades, though.
I have a Sony Dream Machine older than yours that just went poof after 30 years! I suppose only you can judge what you mean by worth it ??♀️. At this rate, I think mine cost me < $1 per year ?
I couldn’t believe it when I read that Sean Connery passed. The SNL Jeopardy skits were running through my mind. I am officially on vacation right now and I am overjoyed at that fact. I wore ISM to get through my shift today. I have been listening to tons of Bjork. I think her last good album was Homogenic but she is a little bit of an acquired taste. The other bands/singers I have rediscovered was KMFDM, Alanis Morissette and Rammstein. Takes me back to high school. I have started to play Farmville 2 again and watching video game walk throughs.
I hope it’s a relaxing vacation for you!
Enjoy your vacation! I love Bjork’s Debut and still listen to the regularly even after all these years.
To *it*
I discovered Rammstein about 5 years ago and it quickly became a favourite. However the last album I fully devoured was Liebe ist fur alle Da. That was when buying albums in CD format still seemed a viable and practical course of action. I haven’t quite got the hang of the digital age…
Farmville 2? I had no idea. I used to play Farmville 1, I guess. Until we moved to the woods. Silly to be planting virtual crops when I have the whole outside waiting for me….
I’m chiming in late this evening, have had some distractions lately with a friend getting ill (after a bad fall) and family melodrama. I wore L’Artisan Fou d’Absinthe today. Not one I pull out often but it struck me as a perfect Halloween scent. Perhaps because I was remembering this fine scene from the Francis Ford Coppola Dracula film with Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder. It has a stupid ending but most of the rest of it is brilliant. Here’s a link to the scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhFFOsikyQ0.
I mainly listen to NPR radio for the local, national, and BBC news. Really like Milk Street Radio (food discussions) and Moth Radio Hour of story-telling. Here, it runs on Saturdays at noon. The stories are varied and gripping. Since I’m doing my second class on story-writing now (via Zoom) I’m fantasizing about trying out for this program. Who knows?
PS: It’s not a listening recommendation, but The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix is absolutely fabulous! Those sets, the costumes, the fabulous hotels in Las Vegas and Mexico City in the 1960’s, wow! And the acting and drama are just brilliant! I binge-watched seven episodes in two days!
We started last night , just on episode one
Thanks for that recommendation. 1960s sets and clothes? I’m there.
Sounds good to me, too!
Yes, The Queen’s Gambit is so good! I put it on this Monday during my staycation on a whim and was immediately drawn in. I watched it in two days as well and am thinking about reading the book it’s based on.
Okay, this is the second enthusiastic rec for The Queen’s Gambit that has come my way in the past 36 hours. We will definitely check it out!
I know someone who will Love this! Thanks!!
We just started watching Killing Eve. Wow. You surely get lost in it.
I think I I’d like your recommendation better.
Also very late today, after navigating all the Halloween stuff today, and spending an hour (that my kid complained about as I wasn’t doing Halloween stuff) sanding all the paint and plaster off a wall I tried to fix six months ago but then the guys who replaced the water heater dented it and, separately, the paint started peeling off the plaster I’d applied (probably didn’t let it dry long enough).
SOTD was Like This, my October go-to.
I’m old-school on podcasts, so WTF, Start the Week, and the Slate Political and Culture Gabfests are still what I listen to, also the occasional Desert Island Disks. Seeing White was a good limited podcast series. I haven’t really found (or looked for) much new lately, but some of the suggestions above sound interesting.
I was sad to hear about Sean Connery. Sadly, though, I think I’ve missed most of his best stuff. To me he’s Indiana Jones’ dad and the young guy in Darby O’Gill and the Little People (my Catholic elementary school showed that to us EVERY St. Patrick’s Day in the gym). I have seen his James Bond movies, but it’s the childhood associations that stick, I guess!
Thanks, I listened to WTF a bit but don’t know the others.
(And did not remember that SC was Indiana Jones’ dad!)
I rabbitted this morning, while petting Agnes in bed. We got on this kick in WI of going to bed before 10 and getting up early. Easy to do when you leave the curtains fully open in your room overlooking the water. I’ve always been more of a lark, but I became a nightingale the past couple of years. I prefer lark.
I think it’s a Kelly Calèche day, even though I’m stuck inside. Feeling the need for some leather. Trying to finish some charity knit projects that are due a week Tuesday. Working on a men’s hat and a ladies’ cowl…I just can’t do full scarves anymore. Too tedious.
And, I bought myself some soft yarn for a hat while in WI as well as some yarn and a hat pattern for my husband. His is in GB Packer colors. Want to get started on those soon. Yarn is my new rabbit hole.
Knitting is my soothing activity of choice. I buy all these complicated challenging patterns, but then end up make simple patterns with varigated yarn – looks pretty but doesn’t interupt my TV watching… LOL.
Yarn! I have way too much yarn that I picked up because I loved the colour or the feel. Wonderful rabbit hole to go down — but I need to knit more hats (or my latest quickie — coffee cup sleeves) to use it up.
I sympathize with Meridifay, though I do get around to the complicated projects (currently on an Icelandic sweater). But — I’m to the one-colour part on the body right now, and it’s such a relief to just knit and watch other things / read while I’m doing it!
After many years, I finally gave away all my yarn before we moved this last time. The tote-full I stored for a decade+ felt like it was scolding me for so many unfinished/unstarted knitting projects.
My fabric / sewing drawer feels like that. I really just need to toss the old t-shirts I keep saying I’m going to make into something and give away everything else. But then, something like COVID hits, and I’m glad to have the leftover fabric scraps to make masks, I guess.
That sounds like my sleep pattern, lol. I’m usually sound asleep by 9:30 and wake on my own by 6.
No Badger football yesterday.☹️
I got a laugh from your late Thursday comment about Halloween candy. Thank you! ?
? ? ?
Did my rabbits at 2:30 a.m., and again at around 4. It’s allegedly 6:30 now, but still so dark outside!
Good for you for doing them twice! I didn’t remember at all.?♀️
I’ll donate one of mine to you then. ??
Aww, you’re so sweet! Thanks!?
That’s for extra luck! And I forgot as we were on travel so maybe I can borrow one set from you?;)
A Funeral Is a weird way to slip into All Souls’ Day, but fitting.
Sotd is Over the Musk.
Dang! I forgot my rabbits until I got to work and realized it’s November 1st. Oh well. I was so happy for that extra hour of sleep! This is day 9/93 hours of work and I really needed it. It was nice to leave for work in the light. Yesterday morning the moon was still low in the sky and it was beautiful.
I don’t listen to podcasts or audiobooks, but music is my lifeblood. As much as I love watching tv, if I had a choice to never watch tv again or never listen to music, it would be never watch tv hands down.
Lately:
Blue Moon by Beck from his Morning Phase album. The whole album is incredible, he did some really beautiful harmonies on it. It’s one of my favorites for road trips and it became the soundtrack of my fall last year. I got in the habit of listening to it on my trips back and forth to visit my granny and after she passed I listened to it daily for weeks because it fit my mood so well.?
Tame Impala The Slow Rush. Bought this in anticipation of the concert that didn’t happen. I’ll have it memorized word for word by next October, lol.
The Cure Seventeen Seconds. Bought this on vinyl on Record Store Day, my second favorite Cure album ever.
Gorillaz with Robert Smith of The Cure- Strange Times. An interesting collaboration that I wouldn’t think works but totally does. The video is great fun.
AC/DC’s new single and video that dropped this week- Shot in the Dark- yep they still sound and look like AC/DC. Angus Young is 65 and still rocking the schoolboy uniform, I love it.?
The only Cure album I totally got into was The Top but I seldom hear it mentioned…
Yeah, that’s a good one, I have it on CD. I love their old stuff from when they were more “angsty.” My fav is Head on the Door.
I LOVE Morning Phase! I feel like it maybe doesn’t get enough love compared to the rest of Beck’s catalogue.
Isn’t it sooo good? I think you’re right, that it’s kind of a hidden gem.
Glad you are surviving the work schedule.
Are you the one sending me this snow?
Snow?!? Ack, not me! It’s sunny and clear here, I’ll try and send some your way!?
Thanks! So far just flurries, but I still count it.
Love Tame Impala and the Cure, seen both a few times. Also Beck – good live shows. If they ever do those again.
Mostly listening to my CDs and iTunes collections. For work, Orb, Orbital, Zero One (especially with Sia), Mogwai, Aphex Twin, Sparklehorse, Flaming Lips, Dead, Aimee Mann.
For radio, I stick to WMBR, 88.1 fm, the MIT student station. Particularly enjoy Breakfast of Champions, DJ Awesome and the Wonderfriends (mostly archived), and Aural Sensations, a wonderful 70s throwback show. They stream, of course. Don’t care for the Emerson University college station, WERS.
Also listen to the local news/traffic station, 1030 am, but it’s very light on news.
SoTD is Fate, but thinking of dragging my daughter to Bloomies for the last day of the white sale and perhaps a bottle of something Chanel.
Happy weekend, all.
Not up on podcasts. We do audiobooks on long car trips. I loved Freakonomics, but not everyone’s cup of tea.
Oh man, I hope they do live shows again.? I really love concerts.
Madtown: remember this one?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rtt_0OKzRek
(listening to First Wave, and they just played it)
Yes! Omg, First Wave is my favorite XM radio station! My college daughter and I were listening to it when I took her back to school once and she said to me “it’s like they made a radio station just for us”? I’ve imprinted all my kids on 80’s alternative.?
Thanks for the reminder about the new AC/DC song! I went over to YouTube and watched it after reading your post. It sure does sound like their classic material. ??

SOTD is Bergamot body cream by L’occitane
Listening to Nasser Shama recommended to me yesterday and studying Italian
Ahoy. Feast yer eyes me hearties! Friday was my birthday and I got away with a holiday haul of heavenly new scented goodies.
Feeling quite pirate-y with all this booty. So, to make ye all equally squiffy, here’s the loot tally:
Chanel Coco body cream
Cire Trudon candle Salta (a personal lemming due entirely to NST!)
Penhaligon’s The Favourite
Chanel’s Paris-Venise
Chloe Sevigny, Little Flower, Regime de Fleurs
Yo ho ho and a bottle of fun. It’s a pirate’s life for me!
Hehe, you crack me up. Sounds like a great haul. Happy Belated Birthday!
Happy belated Birthday!
A bounty fit for a queen. Enjoy!
Woah! Happy birthday! I went a bit crazy around birthday time and did more perfume shopping than I can justify but a Penhaligon made its way into my loot too – Artemisia! The reviews of it make me think I would abhor the stuff but I was intrigued at first sniff and managed to find it for a good deal. It’s my one and only from Penhaligon…
The Favourite is my first Penhaligon’s too. I was off roses for a couple of years–but the yen came back with vengeance recently. The bottle is sitting on my dresser looking a little priggish, but I love the fragrance.
Oh, I love the bottle ? It reminds me a little of Serge Lutens bell jars with its glassy roundness. I love glass and rounded shapes so it really does it for me. But yes, there is a Victorian vibe to it ?
I haven’t smelled Favourite but the shop had Cairo which is quite new and I LOVED it. Seems fairly typical notes but is just beautiful. It was very much on the spendy side though so I’m going to wait and hope it makes its way to the discounters eventually!
What a great birthday haul! Happy day…
Happy belated birthday! Nicely done, especially the Coco body cream! ?
Happy Belated Birthday! A worthy batch of goodies for sure! ???
Wow did you clean up!
Hope you will love that Salta. I love mine even unlit.
Happy Birthday! And nice haul!
SOTD = HoM WitchMusk, yesterday and today. I still have a bit left in the tiny vial, which I’ll save so I can huff it later. If you can’t bear to toss the empty vial, doesn’t that mean you need more of the pretty?
Banana bread is in the oven. Hubster made bacon and eggs for breakfast, so the house smells like bliss. I really should have diced some of the bacon up and tossed it in the bread batter.
Got good news on Friday, my fingers are healed enough to go without the splint. YAY!! ? I’ll start physical therapy next week, but I’m hoping I can go a couple three times, get my “homework assignments” and then rehab myself at home.
Hoping everyone is having a safe and restful Sunday. ??❤️
Good news on the fingers!
Huh, I’ve never thought of putting bacon in banana bread, our standard is dark chocolate chips.
I know you’ve posted recipes from blogs before, can you remind me where from? The baking season is upon us, time to bulk up for hibernation.?
Hey mtg! These are the blogs I bake from and trust the most: Smitten Kitchen, Joy the Baker and David Lebovitz. Enjoy your baking!
Smitten Kitchen! That’s the one! Thanks!?
David Lebovitz is living my life in bread and pastries. His writing is so much fun. 🙂
Isn’t he a great writer? His monthly newsletters especially have been so compassionate this year.
That WitchMusk sounds very interesting! Would you mind giving a description?
Sure! It’s spicy, cinnamon mostly, with patchouli and vanilla. The musk is there, but not super prominent. It doesn’t project a lot, but it does last 5-6 hours on my skin. Hope this helps. ?
Thank you!
Sotd – Clinique Beyond Rose – slowly getting (cp) caught up with my Oriental Floral. Just the thing for this cold clear Seattle day.
Not only audio recommendation: recording of the livestreamed Lou Reed Tai Chi Day 2020
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi7LhKTTBJ4
If you’re interested in Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Iggy Pop, or martial arts, this should be interesting. Other interesting people interviewed include Tony Visconti (one of David Bowie’s main producers), Elinor Greenberg (a renowned gestalt psychologist), Ramuntcho Matta (French musician, artist, and mystic), Yamuna Zake (of Yamuna Body works).
Audio recommendation: This Week in Virology podcast. I’ll put the link in a reply. Available in both podcast and YouTube video forms. I found this after they interviewed Dr. Anthony Fauci about SARS-CoV-19. Of course, they used to cover other viruses, and the umbrella organization Microbe TV on YouTube also covers immunology, parasitology, and evolution. The channel owner, Vincent Racaniello has posted actual courses on virology on YouTube. All free!
Wearing: Fayoum from Parfums Jazmin Saraï, which I really enjoy. The review on Colognoisseur is good.

I haven’t been doing much exciting listening recently. I prefer to read books rather than listen to audiobooks. Podcast wise, the only one I regularly listen to is My Favorite Murder. It used to be my drive-home-from-work accompaniment, but with WFH I now listen to it during after-work walks. Whenever I’m completely caught up on episodes I put on another of the many true crime podcasts I subscribe to. The music I listen to is based on whether I’m listening during work or not. During work I often have a hard time focusing on work if I listen to music with lyrics I know, so I tend towards instrumental music. Frequent listens for those are movie scores, particularly horror scores from the 70s and 80s, including Suspiria by the Italian band Goblin, also those by Fabio Frizzi and John Carpenter. John Carpenter has made albums more recently that aren’t tied to movies that I really enjoy, namely Lost Themes and Lost Themes II. My boyfriend and I have even able to see John Carpenter, Goblin, and Fabio Frizzi all perform live in the last 5 years. More good instrumental music: Slasher Dave, Explosions in the Sky, Dirty Three. As far as music that isn’t just instrumental I’ve been listening to Run the Jewels, clipping., Wolf Parade, Operators, Middle Kids, Torres, Zeal & Ardor, Idles, Cobra Man. And I’ve renewed my love of Fiona Apple and have listened to her first two albums a bunch lately.
I also meant to comment here about The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix ever since I watched it in two days early this past week, but Calypso beat me to it. I basically think it was a perfect 7 episodes of television. I was thoroughly engrossed and wanted more after it ended.
I’m also reading Tana French’s new book, The Searcher, and am really liking it so far. It’s been nice to have had this week off work so I’ve had sufficient time for reading and watching.
I watched the first two episodes of TQ’sG on Friday night. Could hardly bear to turn off the screen! It is GOOD. 🙂
I forgot to rabbit today but I declare rabbiting on Monday for the start of a “normal” work-week as legit ?.
SOTD = DSH Iris Tuxedo
I wore it as an homage to Sean Connery. It’s a very nice perfume and I have a hard time deciding which one to actualize as a FB!
Another yucky weather day but that’s a wet fall…hopefully it will be uphill going forward!
I screwed up rabbiting today. I will make good use of your decree in the morning ????
Perfect rabbit power!
Yucky weather + time change = big old bundle of bleah today.
Rabbits on Monday bring EXTRA good luck. 😉
Iris Tuxedo sounds perfect for Agent 007. Eager to know which FB you decide on, I live vicariously through your perfume adventures.
I mostly listen to BBC Radio 4 for the news and Radio 4 Extra (mostly older sitcoms and repeat of Radio 4 dramas). I am used to British radio but missed NPR and WNYC at first.
November already, good as I can’t wait for better times ahead, I hope.
Wearing a flanker of YSL Paris, Roses Enchantées.
You smell wonderful. I had one of the flankers, but forget the name. It was in a black bottle.
Thank you Lillyjo, maybe one of the Premières Roses special editions?
You might be able to stream NPR if you are still missing it. Cell phones do amazing things these days.
True about streaming, by now though I am able to go without.
2 hours left of the weekend in my part of the world ? Was in Vanillary this morning – a dense biscuit vanilla with Jasmine overtones to cuddle in during the incessant rain. But as time runs out I feel a bit more ‘fragile’ so now in Etro’s Ambra, which has a baby-something smell which is quite comforting too!
Right now in Narciso for Her, just because I hadn’t reached for it in a while. And yes, mourning Sean Connery — even though his attempts to speak Russian in The Hunt for Red October make me giggle (or grimace) every time.
Listening: the Long Thread Media podcast, which focuses on the fiber arts. There are not many episodes but the research and interviews are excellent. The one with Norman Kennedy (weaver, spinner, folk musician) is a treasure. https://longthreadmedia.com/podcast
Some classic fragrances have jumped into my shopping cart during the Sephora sale. I haven’t hit “buy” yet, but since I’m barely wearing any makeup these days, there’s little I need to restock. I’d rather put that part of my cosmetic budget toward things I’ve always thought would be nice to have but have never purchased. (Or maybe this is the year I’ll let my Sephora status lapse. It’s really hard to feel okay about spending money right now.)
I love Narcisco For Her – it’s a favorite of mine when I have olfactory fatigue. I loved Sean Connery in so many movies, but his Russian left much to be desired. Apologies if I offend anyone, but the same goes for Jennifer Lawrence in Red Sparrow. Her Russian accent was pretty awful!
Thanks for the link!
My Sephora status lapsed. Since COVID, I have settled on Erborian CC cream, E.L.F. eyebrow products and a tiny swipe of Sephora eyeliner just for some definition. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll put on Revlon long wear liquid lipstick because it doesn’t transfer to a mask.
Today’s SOTD: Talisman’s Sirio, and I listened to the Ever After soundtrack to and from in my car today. I love that film, I haven’t seen it in a while.
Scent of the evening PotL Luctor et Emergo. It’s very new to me, and as I had a rare evening shower, I started with something new. I recalled it would make a good downtime scent. I could see my splitmeet sample leading to a full bottle one of these days. DH and I had great time at a neighborhood socially distanced Halloween Parade. We set out a table with treats and carved a Jack-O-Lantern, and watched the children walk from table to table from 3:00 – 4:00. The weather was perfect, cool breeze and crystal blue sky with lots of autumn color still around. After the kids had come through, we walked the route, and some people had made some very fancy tableaux, and done fun things like the candy clothes lines and candy slides. Have good week, everyone!
Scent twins, as I chose PotL Luctor et Emergo today too. Finished off my sample and can now start using the almost full bottle I just bought on eBay. I’m crazy about this perfume.
Songs of the day for yesterday:
https://youtu.be/etAIpkdhU9Q
https://youtu.be/7lXH0nwirio?list=RD7lXH0nwirio
An all too brief respite from the rain yesterday. But surprisingly, NO trick or treaters in my neighborhood, except for someone one person who rang the doorbell around 8pm. I didn’t answer it, because 1) the porch light was not on, and 2) no candy. I guess that folks in my neighborhood came to the same conclusion that I did…
A fellow listener to WXPN along with Robin. I’d love to stream more of my favorite radio stations from across the country, but for whatever reason, it doesn’t work too well where I live. Signal gets dropped a lot.
No podcast recs from me, sorry.
SOTWeekend = SSS Fireside Intense, from my travel spray purchased during Laurie’s clearance sale. It had a whiff of incense this time around in addition to the wood smoke and leather. Looking back, I see that I’ve picked this as a Halloween scent once before.
Jalapeno, I’ve been on a Genesis kick last week and have been listening to Mama, plus Home by the Sea over and over. Amazing.
Everytime I hear hells bells, I think this is the best guitar intro ever. There is seriously not a bad song on that album ??
I’m kinda surprised that I don’t have a Genesis CD in my collection, given how many of their songs I like. “Mama” has a super eerie vibe that’s perfect for Halloween.
I was happily surprised to see AC/DC back in action! My brother told me about the new tunes last month.
