Vilhelm Parfumerie will launch Chicago High, a new fragrance inspired by the Roaring 20s, in September.
Time for a party at Jay Gatsby’s mansion. Dresses are incredible; champagne is flowing; the spirits are high. It’s the wild celebration that defined an era of utmost extravagance, the peak of the 1920s – bottled. Structured like classic early 20th century perfumes, Chicago High was constructed to serve as a time machine, taking you back through scent memory to the experience of the Roaring Twenties.

I wanted to express that effervescent feeling of a time period that was drawing to a close, but also the idea that there were hidden depths to all that glamour, a rhyme and reason for such luxurious pursuits, not just a decadence of society. — Jan Vilhelm
The notes include champagne, pineapple, bergamot, honey, tobacco, leather, patchouli and amber.
Vilhelm Parfumerie Chicago High will be available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, and possibly other sizes as well.

This could smell really good. (The pineapple reminds me of Patou Colony…) But am I missing something with the name? Why Chicago? It’s not a city I associate with Gatsby. Or is this a dip into Fitzgerald’s biography? His early love Ginevra King lived there. hm.
Seriously no idea! But I was surprised by the name and then the mention of Gatsby’s mansion, which is obviously not in Chicago.
Gatsby lived on Long Island. The copywriter would have done better to name-check Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart. Of course, 1920s-era Chicago is more remembered for gangsters and the rise of organized crime in America – not *quite* the same as “hidden depths, glamour, and luxurious pursuits”, perhaps?
See above…perhaps there is a reason, or perhaps there is more text that I have not seen.
