For some reason I woke up this morning thinking about Tiger Balm. I used to always have a tin in my purse, back in another life. Does anybody still use it? A little 4g tin is $2 at iHerb.

I have a little tin of it in my stash! The scent is pungent, but somehow comforting.
Exactly how I remember it! It also used to be easy to pick up a tin in a local store…I have not laid eyes on it in ages. (Maybe I’m not in the right kind of store?)
I was just thinking of this last night, and wishing I had some… my neck and shoulders are achy from too many hours of sitting too still for too many video-meetings! Tiger Balm would hit the spot right now.
Yes, maybe in my case it is because my shoulders are achy from painting! You have a better excuse.
I have it in a small jar but it is white coloured and I remember the balm being red, and staining the skin. It is the same brand and smells the same and I bought it last year because one of the perfume reviews ( can’t remember which one – but a perfume I wouldn’t be able to access) mentioned camphor and possibly tiger balm itself.
So much for my memory. I just opened the jar and the balm is as red as red and smells great
But as austenfan notes below, there are white and red versions and the recipe is slightly different.
In the Netherlands you can get both the white and the red variety. Both smell great, but I think I prefer the red.
Isn’t that a Heeley fragrance? I think there is a Heeley that is supposed to smell like tiger balm. I’ve just checked and it’s called Esprit du Tigre.
Thank you. I knew I had read a review that triggered…tiggered….my ourchase
Yep — if that were cheap and in 15 ml, I’d buy it!
I still have a large tin and use it sometimes on my temples before going to bed if I have a headache and don’t want to take ibuprofen. It masks headache and helps me to fall asleep.
Thanks! So maybe I’m the only one who has fallen off the wagon.
I need to try this! I have a wee tin that I keep in my backpacking gear; it’s always been a big comfort, both directly and olfactorily, after hard trail days. (Admittedly, sometimes there is also whisky).
I have a small glass jar of the red version. It is powerful stuff and a relic like the bag balm is for dry hands! I use bio freeze now I must admit but it’s great to have around.
On my last flight, I got to analyse the scent carefully as the cabin was heavy with tiger balm because a man kept applying it to his feet : |
