Iris Liqueur from Elixir Craft Spirits in Oregon: "Iris takes its name from its main ingredient—genuine iris root. Iris root is legendary for its delicate, violet-like scent. For centuries, Florentines cultivated iris plants in their vineyards to enhance their wines, and used iris root infusions to make floral liqueurs. The precious iris (fleur-de-lis) serves as the official emblem of Florence and the aristocracy even today." $44.99 at Potomac Wine & Spirits (see comments).

Just ordered it. Could not resist! ?
PLEASE report back! I cannot order it here (PA too strict) but next time I go to DC I can get some.
I will!
Oooooo!!!!!!!! I am so glad you did??????
This looks amazing, but also I am only just now learning that the fleur-de-lis is an iris.
🙂
It’s actually a lily (lis is lily), so between that and the fact that they say irises smell like violets (they don’t at ALL to me!), I’m a little troubled. But I love irises and fancy, flavored liqueurs, so I look forward to pl67’s report on how it is!
If you look at the origin section here, there is discussion of the iris claim:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleur-de-lis
Bad news! They just called to let me know that they have not had the Iris in stock for a couple of years already and they will be removing it from their website. They do not think they will have it in stock again since it is not easy to find anymore! ?
Ha!!! That explains why it wasn’t there when I looked!!!!! I was tempted myself ?
You saved me a look-see ?
Literally a buzz kill!
Ok, who here lives in Eugene, Oregon?
http://elixircraftspirits.com/
I do have a friend with family up there….
Probably easier than getting a bell jar, to be honest. ?
I also have a friend up in Eugene, but she is recovering AA, so not an option. ? lol.
I was born at Mckenzie Hospital. ? I nearly came out on Interstate 5 lol. Kinda wish I did, cause then my theme song could be that” I was born to be wild..head out on the highway..lookin for adventure, whatever comes our way:).”
No, don’t send her! But also, this could be a wild goose chase — a bell jar is a safer thing to chase after since you can get a sample first.
I just assumed that those of you who were here earlier than I already bought it all!
Also their stupid search engine brings up Irish whiskeys when you search for Iris ?
Oh geez this reminds me of a shop in Vegas that sells a wonderful, rose liqueur..I sampled it and nearly burst into song haha. It was gorgeous.?
Would that be Drillaud Rose Liqueur? I have a bottle of this and it is divine! A small amount in some sparkling wine or champagne is a lovely lovely cocktail. There are several brands of rose liquor so don’t know if we’re talking about the same one, but Drillaud is very good.
Gosh, I don’t remember the name of it but I sampled it at a shop inside the Venetian. A small bottle was 40 bucks or so.
I found it:)
It’s this lovely one right here:)

I just googled availability and the Iris is in stock at Total Wine outlets.
So the link Robin listed may be out of it but it does seem to be around for buying. Just enabling where I can. 🙂
And $20 less then listed in post!
Of course shipping may offset any savings.
I called Total Wine this morning, but they are not allowed to ship liquor to NY and the only store they have here for pick up do not have it in stock. It looks like one of their California stores has it available, if someone is interested.
It’s been my experience with TW that if they have it on the master inventory then an individual store can order it for you. The one you called may not have it currently at their location but they can get it. I’ve done this at my local TW so don’t let them tell you otherwise. I’ve had to pre-pay for it, but they got it for me.
I really hate businesses that act like they’re doing you a favor when you want to spend money.
Too much hassle right now! Maybe later when things get better I will give it a try. Thanks anyway for the info ?.
Oh duh, I posted that below before I got here. That’s what you get for reading comments from the bottom.
This might be a good time to raise awareness regarding the existence of Bitter Truth Violet Liqueur. I’ve never tried it — I simply love the name!

It’s an ingredient in the old-fashioned Aviation Cocktail, which also contains gin. (Would love to try!)
Yes, there are a number of violet liqueurs, although they’re not generally made with orris. Kevin really likes Creme Yvette:
https://www.totalwine.com/spirits/liqueurs-cordials-schnapps/herbal-spice/creme-yvette/p/125086750
And while looking that up so I could provide a link, guess what:
https://www.totalwine.com/spirits/liqueurs-cordials-schnapps/herbal-spice/herbal-blend/iris-liqueur/p/171103750?s=102&igrules=true
But they won’t ship it, so unless you live in Delaware you’re still out of luck! But it’s much cheaper. When Pennyslvanians are allowed to go into Delaware again, I may try to go get some.
Thanks, Robin!
I took Sarah Lohman’s Brooklyn Brainery course on animal extracts and floral flavorings this evening
and learned that Tamworth Distillery makes Eau de Musk with castoreum!
http://tamworthdistilling.com/spirits/house-of-tamworth-eau-de-musc/
She had not tried it yet, as they’re located in New Hampshire.
Oh, I’m so glad you attended because I wasn’t up for sacrificing my daily walk for it at that time today after all. That’s cool what you learned about Eau de Musk. I’d love to hear more!
Oh interesting!!
