I rue the day CC discontinued the gorgeous Crown Perfumery offerings – I note he still used their bottle cap design though! Prices are just ridiculous…
Seriously, they are celebrating the 20th anniversary of buying Crown, and then discontinuing all the stuff Crown made.
If memory serves, Robin, they only continued to sell any Crown originals for a very short time after they bought the company, so I’m thinking it was existing stock. Then they started producing their own exorbitantly expensive creations, none of which, in my humble opinion, have any of the grace & finesse of the original Crown fragrances. Crown had a stand-alone shop in the Burlington Arcade many years ago, which seemed to appear out of nowhere, but now I’m thinking that perhaps that was after CC bought the company & were trying to suss out whether to keep the original set-up or not – the ‘not’ won it would appear! When I bought the glorious Crown Ess Bouquet from said shop, I also came away with at least half a dozen samples of their other fragrances – those were the days!
That’s probably right — they “officially” discontinued them all in 2002.
They have never made anything as good as Crown Eau de Russe…but obviously I am not a big fan.
The notes do not sound particularly expensive. Damask rose is already limited in usage by IFRA. Maybe they used real saffron? (i highly doubt it)
