Crabtree & Evelyn is back. So far, there are 2 collections: Crabtree (unisex) and Evelyn Rose (feminine). The new fragrance for Evelyn Rose is Femme de Force: "Our Femme de Force fragrance bottles up the fiery spirit of a rose and detonates attitude with every spray. It doesn't blossom at the top, but instead bursts with lemon, cassis and frankincense. Bold and unapologetic, floral notes come into play at the heart, surrounded by a warming blend of spiced nutmeg and cashmere woods. Our fierce Evelyn Rose fragrance settles to a sensuous base of vetiver and musk, leaving a long-lasting impression as fearless as its wearer." $80 for 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

the… the new…. the C&E… the new C&E fragrances are called Femme de Force and…. RAW INSTINCT? oh dear. smelling salts. are you sure Crabtree and Evelyn is “back”? this is more like in a horror movie when the body of someone you love is inhabited by a spirit that’s almost but not quite entirely unlike them. you want the person to live on, but AT WHAT COST
oh, calm down everybody, and by everybody I mean me, the (recent) classics are still available under “Archives”
You are my favorite.
Ahaha. ITA
They are said to be going after the “zillenials”. Fair enough, their old customer base was apparently not keeping them afloat!
It’s fair to target that audience, but I think it’s misguided to totally overhaul a brand that has a very specific history and feel – there are plenty of ways for a retro floral sensibility to be hip, just walk into any Anthropologie. I would maybe argue that it’s more on-trend than this sleek nonsense. This packaging looks like they’re trying to trick everyone into thinking they’re the Body Shop, which – if it succeeds – won’t be good for their price point.
Yes, will be interesting to see if this sells. Clearly what they were doing before wasn’t working.
Does TBS even resonate with young people, I wonder? In my local mall, Lush is packed and TBS is empty — might not be how it is elsewhere.
I totally agree, especially with your point about products sold at Anthropologie. This packaging might work for their new lines of products, but does not in any way convey the history of the products now known as the “Cult Collection” available in “The Archives”. The clichéd design trends used in this rebrand have been around for years now and look like the designer spent a day or two working on them… something one could pick up in Zara for a third of the price. Why not reference the botanical images C&E has used in the past – for instance on their Avocado line. They could have done something really beautiful that maybe would’ve appealed to their existing market and also a new younger one.
Wow lol:) haha
We had standalone C&E shops in Glasgow & Edinburgh (my nearest ones!) & their sales & special offers, never mind their standard offerings, were always lovely, I thought, from both the smellies & foodie points of view. Was so disappointed when their ‘High Street’ presence disappeared from the UK. Here’s hoping they re-appear – my friend & I were regular customers when buying gifts for friends & colleagues to take back from short trips.
I think the plan right now is online, but we’ll see!
I confess. I usually enjoy overheated perfume prose. But geez, must I always be fearless and feminine and a force to be reckoned with? What if I just want to hide in my house wearing men’s pjs and eat junk food?
? Thanks for the laugh!
What audience is this palava aimed at? ?
Shhhh… Don’t give them any ideas! I can see the packaging now… Looks like a can of Pringles!
I would be interested in that lol. Pringle Puma edt
LOL!
So glad you said it, NovemberRose! I too gave “femme de force” a hearty eye-roll.
Crabtree is back kickin azz takin names in millennial pink:)
Let the force be with you lol
Oh, be still my heart! Dare I hope? For years, I was madly in love with Evelyn Rose. It was wonderful! Then they went and reformulated it. UGH! I was so upset, I purchased Evelyn roses for my garden so that I can still enjoy the fragrance, but alas, can’t wear it.
I truly hope that this is the original formula!
Sigh. Never mind. I got so excited, I didn’t carefully read the text. Sounds like a completely different fragrance, with other notes.
I just fired off an email to them asking if I could get a sample.
Do keep us updated, please!
This reminds me of when Yardley turned “hip” in the 60’s. That worked for as long as the British Invasion lasted.
I’m always interested in another rose fragrance, but I, too, am tired of being “fierce” all the time (she says, emanating remnants of Portrait of a Lady).
And Yardley has repackaged and rebranded at least twice since I’ve been blogging. They are still alive but not sure they’ve hit their mark yet.
I never got into C&E.
