I am still lemming that darned Salta candle and here is another limited edition I could live with: the Cire candle. "The Cire scented candle is an olfactory representation of the manufacture: symbolic, it blends emanations of warm wax and perfumes being crafted. Reinterpreting Cire Trudon’s fundamental values - ancient savoir-faire and commitment to excellence - the scented candle reveals a unique perfume: behind the amber-colored glass, a beeswax absolute. Bees and beeswax have always been at the heart of the manufacture’s History: since the 17th century, Cire Trudon’s motto is “Deo regique laborant”, which means: “they (the bees) work for God and the King”. 2019 marks a turning point for the Maison, as Cire Trudon decided to financially help the Orne Dark Bee Conservatory, with the partnership of the Perche Nature Park. 4 percent of all sales of the Maison’s Cire candle will go toward the saving of Orne Dark Bees." $125.

Pardon me for making light of a serious topic, but I just love it that they are saving a special FANCY bee.
HA, yes, figures — niche bees.
LOL!
I don’t understand–so this is a beeswax SCENTED candle? Why not make the candle out of beeswax so it would smell like beeswax? And does anyone else think Cire is kind of a dumb name for…a candle? Everything about this just seems redundant.
(But Robin, your niche bee joke above made me laugh!)
Seems quite straightforward. It’s called ‘Cire’ (French for wax) as it’s inspired by the scent of beeswax. Not sure how much scent or complexity you would get out of a plain beeswax candle with no added scent elements – that’s like grinding up tobacco or leather then wondering why your fragrance doesn’t smell of tobacco/leather !
Their candles have always historically been made from beeswax as they say this gives the whitest colour when sun-bleached.
The candle contains beeswax absolute but fragrance pyramid is more complex :
Head Notes
Bergamot, Honey, Waxed wood.
Heart Notes
Beeswax absolute, Cinnamon essential oil, Sandalwood essential oil.
Base Notes
Musk, Patchouli essential oil, Tonka Beans, Vanilla.
Uh, yep, the reason I think “Cire” is a bad name for a candle is precisely because it means “wax.” It’d be like calling your perfume “Ethanol.”
And I’ve got a ton of beeswax candles with no added beeswax absolute that smell SPECTACULAR! If you just buy blocks of beeswax from apiarists (like for coating cooking surfaces), you’ll find that they smell very strongly. I find the scent quite rich and complex, even when you’re not burning them, so do give those a try.
If that’s not all it smells of, my primary objection to the copy becomes the fact that they didn’t mention any of that. They just make it sound like they came up with a way to make a beeswax candle smell like a beeswax candle for a ton of money.
Why is it odd to name a fragrance after what it’s imagined to smell like? ‘Tuscan leather’ & ‘cuir de Russie’ smell like leather, ‘rose oud’ smells like rose and oud – why not call a scent inspired by beeswax after the french word for wax, especially when that’s also the name of the company?
They do mention all of that, but you’re reading a short edit of the full press release , all the info is in there if you read the full thing, or look on their website
I know exactly what you mean. Church beeswax candles smell heavenly (sorry about that) all on their own; even their colour is gorgeous. I wouldn’t add a thing.
Yep , but you can’t also sell a candle for $125 by just pouring plain beeswax into a glass jar lol
Aye, there’s the rub.
Ha! Don’t tell anyone, but I love a good pun 🙂 I quite like the golden color too, but I guess some people prefer white candles.
A number of my beeswax candles are tapers from a church out in the Greek countryside a couple hours out of Athens. They smell fantastic! I’ve had them for more than two years but can’t bring myself to burn them. They still smell great, though now I have to lean close to them to get the smell 🙂
Beeswax candles only smell a little like beeswax…I’m assuming this is going to smell MORE like beeswax since they added an absolute, plus, it does have other notes, sorry for not including that (I was too focused on how many CT candles I want and am not going to get):
bergamot, honey, waxed wood, cinnamon, beeswax absolute, sandalwood, musk, patchouli, vanilla, tonka bean.
Oh duh, and nathanthomas already included above.
Haha thanks Robin ! Chill & have a glass of wine ?
