Happy Dr. Seuss Day (aka Theodor Seuss Geisel's birthday, aka National Read Across America Day)! Name...
1. ...the last perfume that made you laugh out loud?
2. ...the last perfume that taught you something?
3. ...the last perfume that reminded you of a book, OR the last book that reminded you of a perfume?
Bendelirious says “Whee!” which is fun.
Such a fun word! I didn’t know that perfume had cherry in it until the recent cp. (Darn that cp anyway for sparking my interest in cherry perfumes — I pretty much hadn’t noticed them previously. 🙂 )
SOTD is SB Incensed. I’ve given up looking for serenity, and will happy if I can just make it until 7PM. Hoping for a better day today! Not only did yesterday start off bad, it got worse, ending with a sweet little lady spitting in my face. Oh joy! Luckily, she was pretty dry, and my bob and weave skills are excellent, so she missed. ?
I could really use a perfume that makes me LOL…!
I was thinking to my self why in earth would someone old lady spit at you…. then I remembered your career. The good news is….that day is OVER!
Gosh! I hope you have a better day today! You smell great!
You are due a really excellent day! Soon!
Oh my! Like others said, at least yesterday is over!
I am wishing you the most uneventful day!?
Hang in there, Deva!!! We’re cheering for you.
You’re wearing the correct perfume after your horrible Friday!
Sending you my most sincere wishes for an EXCELLENT, LOVELY and serene Sunday. In an aside: you and the Chergui lovers created a lemming in me, so I used my mom’s birthday gift money to buy a bottle blind. And I am #notsorry.
Yikes. You must have a great deal more self control than I do.
Oh what an awful day. I hope today is better!
I’m glad you can still call the spitter a sweet little lady! 🙂
When in hospital one should be capable of excellent bob and weave movements 🙂
I’m amazed at your fortitude and forbearance skills. Wishing you a very good weekend!
My friend’s Greek Mother-in-law used to spit on her. Apparently it wards off the Evil Eye or something.
I think some of my long gone relatives used to do that too.
Hey, how have you been?
Oh the joys of nursing. Stay strong Deva!?
Oh my, what a day again for you. I hope today is better!
In Chanel Coco for a snowy day. It always makes me smile!
I refused to work this weekend. I needed to take care of my regular stuff at home and rest. Sometimes enough is enough!
Looking forward to a quiet weekend with some wine and tapas tonight.
Have a great weekend everyone!
I’m glad you decided to make some time for yourself. Have a great weekend!
Thank you Sistine! You too enjoy your weekend!
Power to Perfumelover67!✊ Good for you, and you smell great!
Ha! Thank you! ?✊
Good for you, pl67! Enjoy the weekend!
Thanks Hajusuuri. You too!
Good for you! It’s been said a thousand times but Coco is beautiful!
And so are you!??????
Thank you Lillyjo! Coco never fails. It is such a beauty!
Gorgeous scent. Enjoy and relax!
Thank you! Coco is indeed an amazing classic!
Wishing you 48 hours of blissful peace and quiet —
Thank you! You too have a relaxing weekend!
Good call – enjoy!
Thanks! ?
I hope you are having a fabulously restful and pl67-centered weekend!
Thank you Nancyleandros. So far very peaceful at home with my doggy. ??
Perfumes always make me smile, which is why I love them. Today I’m sampling and really digging Radio Bombay from D.S. & Durga. The sandalwood/ coconut/ iris combo is totally working for me. I haven’t bought any samples in 2019 and I still have so many to try. Ack!
It’s finally a beautiful sunny rose’ drinking kind of day. I plan to spend as much time as possible basking in the light from the strange bright orb in the sky.
Undina and therabbitsflower – if you are in the USA and would like to try Linde Berlin by Frau Tonis please send me an e-mail at payne underscore cm at the yahoo.
Have a peaceful and rejuvenating weekend!!!
I am, and I do, and I will (once I get to PC). Thank you! 🙂
Enjoy your day as much as I will be enjoying my grey rainy day (not joking: several years of drought definitely changes prospective).
Here here!
Oh, thank you so much! I’ll email you today.
My mom passed away early Monday morning. It is very sad but it was a mercifully short time on hospice and she is no longer suffering. She wanted to be cremated so we will have a memorial service in a few weeks when I coordinate with my east coast siblings for them to come out.
Thanks for all the comments of support since her diagnosis the end of Dec…it really means a lot to me.
So sorry She-ra! I’ve been thinking of you. I hope you have good support from friends and family during this time. All of NST is behind you!
I am glad your mom did not linger in pain, but oh my goodness She-ra, you must be reeling. Wishing you peace as you work through your grief.
Oh, dear She-ra… My condolences to you. Take any support you’re offered or can get to live through the hardest time of your loss.
I’m so sorry, She-ra, my condolences and hugs <3
She-ra, offering my deepest sympathies to you and your family. Hope it comforts you at least a little bit to know that her suffering is over. Hugs —
I’m very sorry for your loss of your mother. I’m sorry you have had it so rough these last few months.
I’m so sorry, She-ra. Even though it’s a relief when a loved one’s pain has ended, it’s such a difficult transition in life. Hugs to you.
So sorry for your loss, She-ra. Condolences to you and your family.
Very sorry about your news. I hope you get nourishing comfort from siblings, family, and friends over the next few month.
My deepest condolences She-ra. So very hard. I hope you and your siblings draw comfort from each other.
So sorry. It is terrible to lose a parent.
A very great loss I’m sure. So sad. My MIL had a severe stroke last Saturday. We’re on opposite sides of the country so her children in DC are bearing the brunt of the grief and stress. Sometimes things just become so awfully overwhelming.
My heart goes out to you, She-ra. You’ve had such a tough time. I hope you know we’re all pulling for you and sending prayers and hugs.
I’m so sorry to hear anout your mom 🙁 Sending love and peace to you and your siblings.
oh She-ra, I am so sorry. Hospice people deserve a special place in heaven, both my mom and dad were in their caring hands.
I will you and your family peace on this journey.
My deepest sympathies, what a difficult time for you and your family. Wishing you peace.
I am so sorry She-ra. Sending you comforting hugs. I will have you and your familiy in my prayers.
My condolcences. Be strong and don’t forget you are not alone.
Oh no, my condolences She-ra! My thoughts are with you and your family.
Condolences She-ra. I am so sorry.
So sorry for your loss. Losing your mom is so very hard. Hugs.
Oh dear, that seems to have happened so fast. What a big adjustment for your family now. I am glad that you feel it was at the right time. I’m very sorry for your loss. Mothers are so precious.
Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family.
She-ra, so sorry to hear this news and my condolences to you and your family. It’s good to hear your mother is no longer in pain, but what a tough time for you.
I’m so sorry to hear that, She-Ra!
Sorry to hear that she went so quickly, my sincere condolences.
Thinking of you and your family, She-ra!
Not much I can add that hasn’t already been said. My thoughrs and prayers are with you and your family. Sending hugs.
I am so sorry. Losing both parents so close together is overwhelming. May your memories and family and friends be a comfort to you as you grieve for them. Your parents are healed and reunited in joy again, but those left behind have to bear all the sorrow and loss. Big hugs to you.
I’m very sorry She-ra. Wishing you peace and comfort at this very difficult time.
I am so sorry for your loss Shera
Oh She-Ra, I am so sorry for the loss you are feeling right now. I will hold you in my thoughts in the days to come.
So sorry She-Ra, hope you can spend some time with the rest of your family. Hugs
She-ra, i am so sorry. My condolences.
Oh, no, I am sorry. My condolences to you and your whole family. And yes, as others have said, deepest gratitude to hospice workers and all others who help the people we love through their last days and weeks.
I’m so sorry to read this She-ra. Sending my deepest sympathies.
I’m so sorry to hear this. When my husband and I lost our elderly mothers in recent years, we both found that the memorial services were very comforting, because we and our families took the time to make them what we would want to remember about the end. Peace to you and yours.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
scented hugs and perfumed comfort to you, She-ra. I am so very sorry.
Sending my deepest condolences to you.
So very sorry to hear about your mother’s passing, She-ra. My deepest sympathies to your and your relatives. I am sending you thoughts of peace, strength, and hope. Please take care of yourself during this difficult time.
Ok, let’s see…
Smelling Boucheron edp again after many years made me smile because it still smells the same.
I can’t think of what a perfume has taught me….well, Zoologist Civet taught me that I can wear tuberose when it’s combined with quirky notes.
The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery (reread it a couple months ago) made me think of Zagorsk, The Forest of Trees, absinthe and Cristalle edt at various points throughout. It’s a lovely and refreshing read.
Oops, forgot my sotd. I layered MMM Jazz Club with DSH Chinchilla, they smell great together.
Also, perfect layering of names!
And have never read any LM Montgomery other than Anne, unless I’ve forgotten, except for her diaries. I should try some other books.
Try the Emily Book – Emily of New Moon, etc. She was an interesting character too.
Yes! Nice reads 🙂
Ah, and she got several mentions in Russian Doll (the Netflix show). Thanks!
The Blue Castle is her best adult book, imho, it’s very unexpected and the descriptions are gorgeous. This last time, I read it aloud to my husband and we both enjoyed it. Don’t read the Kindle version, it cuts off before the end which was a terrible shock! I found a used copy asap.
Oh thank you for the kindle warning, that is how I do most reading now.
I downloaded a bunch of L.M. Montgomery books from Project Gutenberg — I believe it’s gutenberg.org
Project Gutenberg will generally have a book available in a variety of electronic formats — plain text, .mobi (to read on a Kindle) and .epub (to read on other types of e-readers that aren’t produced by Amazon). The books are ones that were published before 1923 — something about U.S. copyright law.
Happy reading!
Your comment and that of Scent Spirit lead me down the Wikipedia path. Wound up becoming thoroughly engrossed in the wiki biography of LM Montgomery. Such a tough struggle, her whole life. Made me think of one of my all time favorite autobiographies The Little Locksmith, which I read when I was in high school— I found a very old copy of the book in a used bookstore and absolutely loved it. It was republished in 2000, and is now widely read. BUT I digress. . .
I’ll look into it!
Her diaries are tough to read…
Few days ago I received a package from Puredistance with a sample of their newest fragrance AENOTUS which officially launched yesterday, so that’s what I’m wearing today. I find it seriously citrusy, like a cologne. Actually it reminds me slightly of Eau Sauvage from its old days.
Chanel 1957 taught me that white musks are not just meant to be despised…
I got the burst of citrus too up top! I am allergic to something in it though as I now have hives in the exact area of application…very mild but itchy!
Oops. Maybe it’s from oakmoss in the base?
Oh, I hate when that happens! I had to give up OJ Orris Noir for that exact reason, and now I suspect that Memo Italian Leather (which I ADORE) is doing it too. Gah!
I am going to look up what’s common. This is why I spray and walk into the mist so no skin surface gets a concentration of perfume. The only one I had to ban outright was FM Dries van Noten as that affected breathing and nope ?!
Those questions are tough! I think maybe JM Honey & Crocus was the last one to make me laugh out loud, with that brilliant almond dessert note 🙂 Every perfume teaches me something! Sometimes it’s that I don’t have to like a scent everyone else likes. And the book thing…well, I’ll have to ponder that more.
I’m in un Air de Bretagne from a kind NSTer today, and I’m afraid it isn’t for me. I smell like a beach. Hm. Now that I think about Brittany, I’m not sure why I’d like to smell like it.
Ha! I love smelling like the *right* beach.
Heh 🙂 that’s fair! This one smells like it is at low tide. I’m…not so much into that.
I’m a blank on the poll. Sorry!
SOTD Chergui. OK, maybe this is my answer to # 1, as it is very lovely.
Have a great weekend, all the stressed and tired NSTers.
Do not be sorry, it is all for fun!
Chergui is so good!
Drinking Harney & Sons Chai tea. One spritz of Aura from a sample. At first spray…nope. But, it’s dried down and seems much nicer.
I can only think of one poll answer. Insolence EdT made me laugh.
Harney & Sons teas are top!
Insolence – yes! Helped that they called it Insolence too.
Rainy day in LA,
105 days and 20 pounds to safari
a touch of box of eels edt for general housecleaning. want it done before nail appt.
I get the 105 days, but what is the 20 pounds?
And where is the safari? You must be so excited!
20 pounds off this body that never met a carbohydrate it didn’t love!
Perfume, potatoes, pasta, pizza – all equally loved.
My sister and I are going to Tanzania, staying on the Serengeti. And then to Zanzibar to lie on the beach and smell (and bring home) spices!
Then to Amsterdam for a few days to see the updated museum and walk the canals. The is one perfume shop in Amdam that carries Satori and I am hoping to find her new fragrance there.
Omg, this sounds like so much fun!
That sounds so great!
Thanks, we are looking forward to it.
Our mom died two years ago this past week and we promised ourselves this trip after she was gone. My sister and I take one major trip a year and for the last few years before Mom died we didn’t go anywhere for fear something might happen. She was too fragile.
Last trip out was to Burma in 2012.
We are overdue and agreed to not spend any money on holidays this past year and more and have only seen each other once since Moms death. We are on opposite coasts.
I have been lucky to travel more to East Africa having lived in Saudi Arabia but for my sister, this will be a first. So yes, we are really looking forward to being together. Some of my moms ashes will be spread as she would have liked that.
Now, on the way to gym for the journey of weight loss with a touch of Tigers Nest.
Your trip sounds fantastic. Very good luck and strength to you for the 20 pounds! But it will be a fantastic holiday either way, right?
I took off my few extra “Christmas pounds” for my vacation this year, and put them all back on with cocktails within days of arriving, ha. Luckily they dropped off as soon as I got back home and nobody was bringing me a cocktail on the beach 🙂
My brother’s just returned from Tanzania, where he went for a work project. He loved it (he was on the south shore of Lake Victoria). In fact, he loved it so much, he wants to take his family there for a vacation.
I laughed at the marketing for the latest Marc Jacobs flanker to a flanker pink nightmare that was posted here the other day, does that count?
DSH Kohl Gris today, a sample from an NSTer. Gorgeous creamy clove, like eggnog almost.
Everything counts 🙂
Demeter Gingerale makes me laugh.
Currently puzzling over why I loved my sample of Rasei Fort Kolonya but am not so sure about the FB. There’s probably a lesson here but I’m not getting it, yet 🙂
This week I did learn that the $50 version of the Cartier Carat travel spray set is indeed two travel sprays, not one spray + one rollerball, so big yay for that.
The 80s are back, people! I was at the mall yesterday and two twenty-something SA’s took a massive liking to my leather jacket. It’s a bomber style with a big diagonal front zipper… which I purchased in the actual 80s. Apparently my fashion sense is really “in” now, who knew???
Hey, AngelaB, if you’re out there… I would love to send you your split but you need to send me your mailing address first 🙂 🙂 🙂
That is funny about your jacket. If you wait long enough, everything comes back around!
I still have my fringe jacket purchased at Different Drummer in NYC in 1968.
I love fringe jackets 🙂
Once my no-buy ends, Gingerale will be on the top of my purchase list. Perfumath free, and by everyone’s account, wonderful. Sparkly ginger scent does sound very appealing.
Your jacket experience reminds me of when I borrowed an old structured purse from my mother while visiting her on the East Coast. It’s really very lovely, but I wasn’t expecting nearly as many compliments on it as I got. “So retro chic!” “OMG it looks so vintage!” Yep, it IS. It’s older than I am!
Oh, yes. I have a closet shelf full of my mother’s handbags from the 1960s and (probably) ‘50s. None are from the luxury brands people talk about today, but all are from good boutiques or department stores that were local to her. So, probably not valuable, but definitely well-made and probably investments for her at the time. I LOVE them, and although I rarely carry them — my daily combo is a nylon backpack and a small nondescript crossbody — I feel like such the LADY when I do. Thanks for sharing you story!
Woot woot, the 80’s are back!?
I’ve noticed that the “artfully distressed” look is coming back for clothes — holes and frayed areas in jeans and so on. Now that I’m no longer a teenager, I prefer that my clothes start out without having holes and frayed areas in them. I know they may well get that way soon enough!
SOTD = Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles
I would say this is a happy perfume with its orangey top and the bottle and colors are beautiful.
Not so sure about which perfume may have taught me a lesson. As for a perfume / book association, nothing leaps out!
There was a lot of snow overnight. I dug out this morning from wettish and therefore, heavy, snow. It is now 44 degrees out and we’re in for another round of snow tomorrow!
In other news, I keep getting phone calls in my cell from the British Virgin Islamds. To date I have not answered any of the calls since I don’t know anyone there nor do I want to incur toll charges.
Looking forward to dinner at Seasons 52 with my siblings and their spouses as well as my nephew.
Have a great weekend everyone!
We have a Seasons 52 here also and it’s always so pleasant to go there. The staff are very courteous, the food is excellent, and the tables are nicely set up to facilitate conversation–unlike so many trendy places with hard surfaces and too much noise.
I’ve only been there for lunch when there weren’t many people so we’ll see how it is in these here parts!
For the first few years I had my cellphone I never got spam calls. In the last few months I’ve gotten about 3 voicemails in what I believe to be Mandarin Chinese. I wish I spoke the language so I know what the message was! I do like how easy it is to block a number if I don’t recognize it. (Or sometimes even if I do?)
I finally blocked the number! I haven’t blocked anyone else though but I sure am tempted!
agree, hajusuuri, “les merveilles” often make me laugh. L’ambre is a happy smell to me, EdM makes me smile and think of the ocean.
Yes to Hermes,’to quote you ?
it is indeed a happy scent!
I’m drawing a blank on the poll today. Make me laugh? Maybe Byredo Pulp?
I’m sampling Kierin NYC Sunday Brunch today. Bergamot, lemon, Earl Grey, Jasmine. It’s a happy scent, not laughing but smiling.
Pulp is always good for a laugh!
Robin, I had no idea what Dr. Seuss actually looked like, so thank you for the picture!
I tried Byredo Pulp this week and definitely laughed when I first sprayed it. Wearing Chergui today from perfumelover67’s split and it’s teaching me that I actually really enjoy amber as a note (rather than just tolerating it) if it’s blended with the right stuff! I’m having trouble with prompt 3 but I’ll see if I can think of something…
I am happy to hear you are enjoying Chergui. It is definitely a great perfume!
Honestly I didn’t really go for honey as a note either, but this is fabulous. Thanks again!
If he wasn’t wearing those glasses I might not recognize him myself.
I do think I kind of laughed at Zoologist’s T-Rex when I sprayed it because it was so extreme and a bit shocking–more like an “Oh wow, is this cool or what?” kind of a response. Gardeners Glove confirmed my suspicion that linden is a smell too far for me….. even standing under a linden tree I’ve gotten that feeling. Books–nothing much comes to mind except the perhaps obvious association of Agonist Nordic Noir with many of my favourite mystery authors, including one I’m now reading on Kindle by Icelandic writer Yrsa Sigurðardóttir. Hers are pretty good but none are as good as Arnaldur Indridason, imho.
PS Haven’t managed to put on any SOTD yet. I’m going to a big gala at the Science Museum tonight and still have to decide what to wear, clothes I mean, and after that, what perfume to wear. It’s pretty fancy dress but I may still wear slacks because I have some black sparkly ones and I hate dresses and skirts. I’ll probably wear a wine-red cut-velvet blouse/top.
Well your outfit and (yet to be decided) perfume will be fantastic!
What did you end up wearing? Outfit AND fragrance.
I remember the last perfume that made me laugh (rather than smile, which ideally all perfumes should do when we put them on, right?) – It was Cuir de Russie, from a tiny sample, and I keep asking myself why I didn’t host a split for it…here’s hoping for the swap meet!
I’ve learned from many perfumes that notes I love IRL are often exactly the notes I do not like on me. Lilac is a prime examples, and rose often as well.
Went to another estate sale today – lining up in the rain with tons of people, they had to give out numbers to organize the line. I didn’t buy anything, but they had Jean Nate bathing powder, which someone got excited about, and L’air du temps dusting powder.
Some notes, like lilac, do not smell prim to me in real life — they have a little spicy kick — but they almost always smell prim in perfume.
The only perfume I can think of that made me laugh was Byredo Pulp. Unfortunately, the fun part didn’t last long on me, and the drydown went really wrong on my skin, as all the Byredos seem to do.
Ariose has taught me a couple of things: (1) It is possible for me to get along with a gourmand. (2) It is possible for a fragrance to be both quiet and long-lasting.
I’ve got 2 of these. They came quickly and with conviction.
LOL – Memento Mori/Aftelier — MAJOR scrubber on me but I did laugh because it was so shocking a scent and given her prices I just couldn’t help but laugh.. glad it was from the freebiemeet 🙂
The scent that taught me something (about me!) — newly acquired from the splitmeet is Drole de Rose which I’m SO enjoying and I realize my taste in scents is still continually changing. I used to not like rose or powdery scents and here I am thinking I might purchase a bottle of this when it’s gone. It’s also quite light and somewhat gauzy to my nose which are other changes for me as one who tends to like heavier, more oriental types of ‘fumes. Bottom line: I don’t know myself as much as I think I do.
SOTD: Drole de Rose
I had the same reaction to Memento Mori. After the shock wore off at least.
Had a great Saturday after the week that Just Would Not End! Walked along the beachfront and it was actually hot, like “should have worn shorts” hot. Bought new trainers and had delicious ceviche for lunch in a Peruvian restaurant. Then back home to do the quarterly VAT return (okay, that in itself is not fun, but it’s great to have it done 2 days after month end)
Then back into town for “la batalla de las flores”, the battle of the flowers, which is part of carnival. In honour of which SOTD was 4160 Tuesdays “Florapsychadelica” and SOTE Robert Piguet “Fracas”. (The best match by name would presumably be Cloon Keen Atelier “Bataille de fleurs”?)
Sadly TOMK felt that Fracas was more ‘battle’ to his nose than ‘flowers’ – “smells like something for wiping down machinery”, he said, and insisted I sat away from him on the bus. He was happier later when it had died down and we had stuffed ourselves with wood-fired pizza. :^)
Have we done Battle of the flowers as a community project? Now, to be true to the spirit of carnival, it would mean spraying ourselves and all around us with every floral perfume we have, which probably breaches the Geneva Convention. But if we just interpret it as suits us individually? ;^)
I am trying to imagine Fracas as industrial cleaning agent. Perhaps for the most elegant bordello in Paris? I love Fracas, but cannot really wear it any more. It makes me sneeze, then gives me a headache. Bah, humbug.
Ooh, I love your idea of doing a “battle of the flowers” through fragrance! I have a virtual battalion of floral scents to deploy.
I was planning to wear Dilettante today but after putting on a purple shirt and purple eyeshadow, I had to wear Lolita Lempicka Eau de Midnight. It’s a windy, rainy day in San Diego and I’m cuddled up with the dog.
Insolence definitely made me laugh, so did Café Tuberosa. Perfume that taught me something: Dzongkha. I smelled it early in my niche journey and it didn’t even register in my brain as a perfume smell, it was so weird and off-putting. Now I love it, and many other smells. Not all perfume smells like flowers.
Can’t think of a perfume/book combo.
“Not all perfume smells like flowers.” Amen sister! ?
I have perfume fashion glitches as well. Last night I was heading out to a “gala” (in quotes because it was completely unglamorous and headache inducing—picture canned music from All That Jazz and Cabaret blasting from two speakers and six young women in black wigs and leotards dancing between the tables . . .) and had donned a bright red and white striped blouse and black skirt, blue necklace. I had planned to wear what I am wearing now, Prada Infusion d’Oeillet, but despite the name is not terribly vavavoom. So switched to Ylang 49, which did worthy battle with the huge tables and staticky loud music.
A perfume that makes me smile is Osmanthus Yunnan which I wore today to kick off my spring break in sunny and warm Florida.
I was laughing in relief as I read news of yet another cold blast and icky freezing snow back home. Hehe I escaped just in time and I honestly don’t want to go back until May.
If you’re still in Florida in May, you’ll be praying for snow!
I am one of these people who would much rather be hot then cold but yeah I prefer dry heat to humidity! No chance of me being anywhere near tropical weather in May in all cases
I started out the day with an invite from my co-worker friend to go to the garden shop (just opened yesterday; so many cars in the parking lot after work yesterday, so apparently is an indication of level of spring fever here!) I just wore a couple sprays of EL Sensuous Nude as I didn’t want to overwhelm the garden shop.
She picked up 2 peonies and a dahlia not already in her collection; I got a Prayer Plant. Then we went to do a bit more perusing at the mall (stopped at the Pandora Store and both did some damage there). Finally took her to lunch at out neighborhood pub!
Sounds like a super nice day.??
I have a prayer plant that’s been with me for 20+years. Every so often it gets very gangly and sickly looking, and I cut it back to the soil level. Water it thoroughly, wait a week, and watch the tender new whorls of leaf emerge. 🙂
I tried out Apres l’Ondee, which I got from the splitmeet. Thanks, katsura! I liked it very much. It wasn’t a strong smell, and it didn’t last a long time, but considering that I was going out to the library with Mom, both of those things were just as well. She would have commented if she’d had any objection to it, I’m quite sure. lol
Super long day today. Everyone is getting their tax refunds back and going on shopping sprees. I wore Dune today and matched it with BBW In the Sun body lotion. It worked really well. I’ve been thinking about how to answer the poll all day, but came up short. I do know 2 perfumes that made me laugh out loud are, Absolute Pour le Soir and Womanity.
I’m trying out the blueberry Diet coke, it tastes like Faygo Rock n Rye.
Sounds like a great combo! I came up short on those questions too.
I love all the flavored diet cokes
Blueberry diet Coke???? ?
Yeah, me too. Just as well I do not go through the soda aisle anymore!
Well, call me predictable, but my collection is pretty small so one perfume gets to tick all three boxes…
Habit Rouge has made me laugh out loud more than once. Is it because it reminds me of Seussian treats of my childhood like candy necklaces or fruit loops? It *does* actually remind me of the one time I laughed out loud while reading philosophy over breakfast: Deleuze’s wonderful essay, “What is Desire?”… I guess I’d say that HR teaches me the same thing the essay did: that desire is constructed by us, but is no less light for being so… in fact, we make it that way. So yeah, I am regularly tickled by that. And surprised! Who’d have thought I’d like something so damned powdery? Finally, philosophy aside, it also reminds me of books in general, because I first wore a sample of it (obtained from Portland Oregon’s memorably replete Perfume House) in my favourite bookstore: Powell’s Books.
I was amazed by Powell’s bookstore when I visited. I could live there and die happy
Ok, now I feel I have not lived because I have never laughed out loud while reading philosophy over breakfast!
The heat index here in Singapore today equates to 107 F and today isn’t the hottest day I’ve experienced. I’ve essentially turned into a vampire—I go out in the evening when it starts to cool or very early in the morning before it heats up. Because of the heat my perfumes evaporate really quickly, though today I’m wearing Dryad and it has stuck around. If I had been thinking while packing I would have brought attars. The food is fabulous even if the weather is not, and I have eaten at least three new foods every day. Oatmeal with masala and coriander, oysters and eggs, prawn noodles, and something with little spoonsful of at least a dozen spices, vinegar, and chilis atop noodles and pork broth. I have no idea what it’s called but I’m going back tonight and having it again. A bystander recommended it.
Insofar as the poll, Bombay Bling made me laugh out loud, as did Demeter Thunderstorm. I’m at a loss for the other two questions. Condolences to those who have suffered a loss or hard times and congratulations on new jobs, vacations, and other joyous news. Internet is sporadic in my Airbnb so I’ve missed stuff, sorry.
Wow! That’s hot! The food sounds great though, enjoy your trip!
Omg! 107! ? Sounds like your trip is very enjoyable, otherwise.
In Singapore I stuffed myself silly every day. ?? From hawker stalls to fancy bakeries . . . that island has it all!
Except for tolerable weather. 🙂 Also, my ex-husband lives there.
LOL!
Made me smile. An ex-husband can ruin even the best Laksa!
Oatmeal with masala sounds amazing! I had to google for a recipe after I read that, I’ll have to try it out.
Oh yay, all that food sounds so fantastic!
The last perfume that made me laugh is Missoni Gianduia because the chocolate in it is so realistic.
Etui Noir by Miller Harris taught me that I don’t like strong leather, mine has to be baby soft.
Wondered whether Elizabeth I whom I was reading about wore perfume and I would pair her with Elisabethan Rose first version.
Have you tried the newer Elizabethan Rose? I like it a lot. I wore it last night to a performance of “Henry V”, lol. One of my favorite plays by Shakespeare.
So glad for you you had a nice evening to the theater. I haven’t tried the new version, glad it is good, I just regret their having discontinued the original.
I forgot my SOTD, I’m finishing the Floris week with White Rose, a rose and carnation scent, I really enjoy that one.
Those poll questions have me stumped. I got nothin’. I am a big fan of Dr. Suess though, and when we KonMari’d our books last fall, his definitely spark joy for both me and the kids and so they escaped the goodwill box. I think my childhood fav was Inside Outside Upside Down. I also love the quote of his that I came across a few years ago “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”☺️This is often easier said than done for me.
Yesterday I thunked my decant of Le Labo Labdanum 18. I love that one, but I’m not going to replace it just yet. I have new goodies coming from the splitmeet and recent swaps that I’m looking forward to. I think today I will go with Musc Ravageur again.
I can see blue sky and sun this morning, I think it’s gonna be a good one!?
Seuss. Whoops. I’m a fan, but can’t spell.lol
We still have a fair sized collection of children’s picture books here too 🙂
It’s my Friday, and I am thrilled! SOTD is the pretty, unobtrusive, pleasing, and all around Good Gal Bvlgari Omnia, l’Original. This scent has a very ingenious characteristic that seems to equalize me. Only 5 more shifts! Woot woot! ??
Congrats on the 5 shifts left! Woo-hoo!
I saw your response back re: your trip to BC in the summer. I’ll send you an email shortly with some links and additional information! And let me be the first to say ‘Welcome to Canada’ when you and T-Rex get here!
That’s super nice of you! Thanks much!
Hurray for Friday, whenever it happens! I hope today is MUCH better for you.
Thanks! Right back at you!
What fun questions! And I actually can answer two:
What perfume taught me something recently? Hands down, Bois Sikar from Atelier des Ors. I wrote about it for “Fragrance Friday” and I learned more about Islay whiskies than I had ever known, as Bois Sikar is inspired in part by them: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2019/03/01/fragrance-friday-atelier-des-ors-and-bois-sikar/.
What perfume reminded me of a book? Also an easy recent answer: 4160 Tuesdays’ White Queen (as in, “Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There”): https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2019/02/17/scent-sample-sunday-white-queen/.
I just read your post on Bois Sikar – how fun that you got to visit the Atelier des Ors hq! I noticed Arabic calligraphy in front of a bottle in one of your pictures – do you know the back-story for that?
Considering a blind buy of one of Parfums de Nicolai’s Néroli scents. (Found a forgotten amazon gift card and of course want to spend it on perfume). Any thoughts about which is better?
I like Cap Néroli.
Made me laugh: Dzing! because its really funny with its notes of horses apples…
Taught me: White Musk by Montale, that i don’t like to smell like fresh laundry, Encre Noir that i am not a huge fan of vetiver
Still have the remnants of my cold, so just sprayed some Caron pour un Homme
Sorry your cold is still lingering!
We agree on white musk but part ways on vetiver 😉
Made me laugh: Smell Bent Dead of Winter. And I love it: star anise, heliotrope, musk.
Taught me that I can like patch as a supporting note: TF Noir de Noir and Queen L Queen.
Wearing decant hands from split meet decanting: VC&A Bois d’Iris at the moment.
Wintry mix here, but cozy in Like This. Dzing! Made me smile, because it smells like a county fair, which I loved when I was a kid. I don’t really want to wear it, but it makes me smile. Maybe I should wear it once in a while, though, because a couple fragrances have taught me that things you don’t love at first sniff can become true love (24, Faubourg, L’Huere Bleue).
Also, worth having something on hand to make you smile on a bad day 🙂
Spent most of yesterday playing Halo on my Xbox and forgot to post. I don’t often play my Xbox but the TV that it was hooked up to was free for once. Yesterday, it was Memoir and I am thinking of going the Shalimar Ode a la Vanille today. I’m about to really check out the STC sale.
SotD = L’Heure Bleue EdT
This one makes me chuckle softly. I mean really, the Guerlain bottle is so beautiful, and the scent doesn’t feel “blue” at all to me. It is comforting and uplifting and smells like heaven.
I adore a classically structured perfume like L’hB. Give me citrus notes up top, flowers at center stage, with vanilla in the base to make me one very happy perfume lover.
I love children’s books. Friday was wonderful at the elementary school where I teach music classes. The morning began with a school-wide read-aloud. Every classroom invited community members to visit and read a favorite children’s story. Many chose a Dr. Seuss title.
I’m enjoying my kids’ Dr. Seuss books today, they bring back memories of the days when my children were small and life was simpler. Now they are young adults, facing the challenges of life and love and loss. Sigh.
I’m cleaning out my house again. I konmari’d almost everything a few years ago, but I couldn’t get my kids on board. Their stuff took over the garage. I recently decided I want to be able to park my car in the garage again! So I’m gathering things for a yard sale and to donate.
My kids are still reluctant but finally willing to part with some of their childhood stuff. Of course they will keep many of their treasured toys and books. But life goes on, and all this stuff is holding us back. Luckily I have a very good friend and neighbor who is helping me to stay strong and move on. 😀
Enjoy your Sunday, NSTers, I’ll be thinking of you.
I wish I had the patience and organization skills for a yard sale!
I am sighing with you, tiffanie! Good for you for getting the house in order.
More snow on the way for later this afternoon into tomorrow morning. The commute to work tomorrow will be awful! I am sure all the snowdrop flowers that were already out in many gardens in my neighborhood will succumb this time. Besides the temps are dropping again. The closer we get to spring the colder and snowy it becomes. Well, I sound very negative today, but honestly the weather is already taking a toll on me.
Trying to cheer up in Must de Cartier from the freebiemeet (thanks ElisaP). I have not worn it in many years and revisiting it has been a pleasure. I am enjoying it greatly and I will for sure finish the sample this week.
A peaceful Sunday or Monday for everyone!
I am joining you in more snow and cold. Sub zero wind chills tomorrow and Tuesday. Truly, the worst part is commuting. It’s almost done. It has to be! Stay safe!.
You too stay warm and safe Lillyjo! Let’s keep thinking is almost over!
Good luck with your commutes tomorrow, pl67 and lillyjo! Stay safe.
Thanks! Now it looks like Tuesday will be the worst of it. After that, I think I will call an official end to winter??
Thank you Jalapeno! Trying to think positive, since more snow or wintry mix is forecast again for Friday. I hope it changes the path! ?
SOTD is Santa Maria Novella’s Acqua di Colonia Cala Rossa. I don’t know how I feel about it. It was an impulse purchase and as usually – they turned out to be just a bit much or a bit too little. This one is – wrong season and maybe that’s the problem. In a heated summer night it might be ok. In this cold cloudy day it just annoys me.
I never tried that one but it sounded so interesting! Sorry it isn’t suiting you.
1. I Love les Carottes always makes me laugh when I spritz it on. It’s very Seussian.
2. Areej le Dore Oud Picante – I have gotten to the point where I don’t need to love the way a perfume smells on me to enjoy its evolution of smells.
3. Apologies for going literal, but I did spray on Book (from Commodity) yesterday…I think I got this from one of you wonderful peeps in some long ago freebiemeet.
Yes, good call on #1!
In Prada Infusion d’Oeillet this very lazy Sunday morning. After a marathon week for work I am luxuriating in doing very little. Looks like the teachers’ strike here is going to resolve today as well, so both of my boys will be in school next week whooohoooo!
A perfume that made me laugh out loud is Fraaagola Saalaaata— didn’t want it, but definitely enjoyed testing it.
Dylan Blue by Versace, taught me that the heart and nose love what they love, snobbery be damned (okay, not DB originally, but it is among some mainstream department store frags that I find are just really pretty. . . )
Cannot say I have ever picked up a book and thought immediately about a perfume, or vice versa. But when I was a girl I read and reread books by Joan Aiken, and remember Nightbirds on Nantucket conjuring the smells of the sea, sand, beach plums, huckleberry, heather, thistle, and fog.
I’m in Kyoto today, for its soothing properties after a challenging night of extreme intestinal distress. It seems to be gone now, thank goodness. Chores today (laundry and nail polishing), and perhaps by dinnertime I’ll be ready for food. Maybe. 😉
Oh no! Sorry to hear that, and really hope things are settled down now.
Heeley Eau Sacrée for a quiet overcast day.
I took my daughter clothes shopping today. I know I’ve said this before, but she is plus size, and it is so hard to find anything cute for her age. She loves fashion so much, and of course wants to wear trendy stuff. We ended up with a cute denim jumper, a pair of jeans and one t-shirt that has a saying on it. My sotd is Dolce Vita, from a mini. Unfortunately, it has gone off, and is no longer the beauty it once was. I guess that’s what I get for hoarding!
Sorry it is tough to find what she wants…I thought there were so many more labels making plus size now. Glad she found a few things !
Happy Sunday everyone. We are having some sun today, but it’s cold. I’ll take the sun, at least I can pretend it’s spring if I stand in front of the window so I can feel the warmth.
After my shower, I’m put on some L’Occitane Arlesienne Body oil and a few sprays of Orris Tattoo 29. Its a pretty good combination.
I loved Dr. Seuss as a kid; I remember re-reading the books over and over again. I think they probably fell apart from over-use so my Mom probably threw them out; I’d love to have them in my house (and we don’t even have any kids!)
1. …the last perfume that made you laugh out loud? CB At the Beach 1966. It brings back such great memories as a kid with that unmistakable Coppertone scent. I love it from time to time!
2. …the last perfume that taught you something? Dior 28 La Pausa. It taught me that iris can be soft and buttery, not always an earthy note.
3. …the last perfume that reminded you of a book, OR the last book that reminded you of a perfume? Nothing comes to mind, but I’m sure as soon as I hit post, it will.
CB At the Beach, good call!
Earlier today I tried Profumum Roma Olibanum from the splitmeet. (Thanks, pixel!) I liked that. It didn’t smell terribly strong to me, which is a good thing. I found it very pleasant, though.
Tea this morning was toasted rice green tea.
Getting into the evening here on Eastern (U.S.) time, I put on Eau d’Hiver. We’re getting quite a lot of snow here west of Philadelphia, so it seemed appropriate.
Yesterday was a fun day at the Atlantic City Boat Show. It is indoors, so it’s a pleasant respite from all the grey and rainy/snowy/sleet-y winter weather. I am not a boater, but Mr. Jalapeno is. I see it as an opportunity for a nice walk. ?
Answers to the poll:
1) Not sure I have every had a perfume make me laugh, but 2 or 3 have sure come close: Gucci Rush, Byredo Pulp, and something I can’t remember now that I am typing.
2) The perfume that taught me something: a lot of them have, but the one that comes to mind immediately is AG Heure Exquise EdP. It and No. 19 taught me that I can like iris after all. (I find it a challenging note.)
3) No book/scent combo comes to mind, sorry.
SOTD = Frapin 1270 EdP again. Actually, it’s been the scent of the weekend. And it got an unsolicited compliment from Mr. Jalapeno. I guess it has a bit more sillage and throw than I realized.
Sounds like a fun time at the boat show! I think No 19 made me realize what iris even was, and that I could like it in certain forms.
A late post, but I’ve been reading the other posts all weekend. I’m sad for this weekend to come to an end. Yesterday I wore Soivohle JoJo parfum out to brunch at a restaurant my boyfriend and I hadn’t tried yet. I got the chimichurri steak and eggs with duck fat roasted potatoes. It was perfect. Then we walked around and went in some shops and eventually grabbed a scoop of ice cream.
Last night we went to a special dinner my work was having for the employees who worked on a project we recently completed. It was at a staple Seattle restaurant with a great view of the city across the sound. Food was good and my boyfriend got to meet a bunch of coworkers. I kind of couldn’t believe it when I got back to our table from the buffet line and saw our CEO chose the seat next to my boyfriend. Our table ended up having some really good conversation, so I’ll call the night a success. I wore Une Fleur de Cassie.
Today I slept in after going to bed later than usual last night. I wore DSH Fleuriste to the grocery, and that was my only outing. Now I’ve got Lalique Le Parfum on one arm and Aedes Grenadille d’Afrique on the other. I’m trying to assess some of the decants I don’t wear often. They’re both nice but not loves.
