Indie natural line Aftelier has reissued Alchemy, a 2001 fragrance originally launched in conjunction with Mandy Aftel's book Essence & Alchemy.
A voluptuous floral heart swathed in amber and vanilla, with bitter orange and black pepper top notes. Luxurious, uplifting, and universally beloved.
Alchemy...was the first perfume I made for Aftelier Perfumes and has long been retired. I am working with the original essences that I used when I made Alchemy over 15 years ago, and the original ylang ylang concrete and vanilla absolute are no longer possible to find. Fortunately, I saved some of these gorgeous essences because even back then, it was extremely difficult to find a rich and complex vanilla absolute. It is even harder to find ylang ylang concrete, which smells like a perfume all by itself: rich, sweet, and intensely floral -- my absolute favorite version of ylang ylang.
This holiday season 2018 I wanted to bring it out again but this time in a limited-edition rollette (rollerball), using a base of fractionated coconut oil.
A respite of comfort with its amber foundation supporting a traditional floral heart, finished with a splash of spicy citrus. Portable and easy to take with you.
Additional notes include bergamot, rose, jasmine and benzoin.
Aftelier Alchemy is $75 for a 5 ml rollerball. A sample is available for $7.

I ordered 2 of these on Friday night and they were delivered today. Huzzah!
I swiped about an inch-long trail on my forearm and it wafted a few inches with what to me smelled like a mix of Cuir Gardenia (without the civet) and Vanilla Smoke. No rash which is always a concern for me and so far so good!
Wow, that was fast! And sounds lovely.
