Indie brand DS & Durga will launch two new fragrances, Amber Kiso and Amber Teutonic.
“Amber isn't something we've really tackled before. In typical DSD fashion, I went down a rabbit hole and began to make a world based around the mythical material concept of "amber." To me, ambers are the materials that recall our distant past. I tried to work with them in new and exciting ways.” - D.S.
D.S. & Durga’s Amber Cycle draws heavily from myth, history, and ritual associated with places that produce amber materials. Amber extracts are often tied into religious and sacred ceremonial practice. Like myths, amber formulations change over time and are constantly reinterpreted. Like myths, their very scent draws us backward to some primeval source
Amber Kiso ~ "A ritual in the holy Kiso forest: ceremonial katana unguent of rare woods, temple incense, leather bushi armor." The notes include Japanese cedar, incense, cypress, maple, patchouli, iris, hinoki, leather and treemoss.
Amber Teutonic ~ "Mahler’s hut, perched high above the valley of Alpine fir, horn echoes in the primeval forest. A Nibelungian hoard of precious emerald ambers." The notes include Alpine cedar, cardamom, green mandarin, geranium, larch, templin (fir) cone, pine, opoponax and musk.
DS & Durga Amber Kiso and Amber Teutonic will be available in 50 ($175) and 100 ($260) ml Eau de Parfum.
(via press release)
I had the opportunity to smell both of these fragrances last week. I really liked Kiso, Teutonic was interesting but not as good as Kiso.
