A quick reminder: the freebiemeet will be next Saturday, the 29th.
Today, a repeat of a poll we first did in 2010, about transitional fragrances: what are your favorite fragrances as summer turns to fall? What scent makes you happy as the nights get chilly and the days take on that crisp edge? And tell us what perfume you wish you owned for chilly weather.
Or, as always, talk about something else.

1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire (which I also enjoy as the seasons segue from winter to spring).
I purchased a new bottle and am excitedly anticipating its arrival from Grasse, France.
It’s in my top 5 of all time category.
I have a vial of that somewhere, and I remember thinking when I sampled it that it was truly beautiful. Anise/licorice is a note that I never really believed that I loved, but this perfume, and Douce Amere, and to some degree, Theorema – make me think that I just don’t know my own nose.
Yes!!!! same here! this was the one that made me realize that I don’t dislike anise/liquorice…it’s so artfully blended..
I love all three of those. Swapped away my Douce Amere years ago (why? who knows!) and wish I had it back!
I adore RN, it’s so beautiful, and understated. I treasure my bottle.
that is perfectly put SmokeyToes! Do treasure your bottle because no one in the States carries it anymore. Once my bottle comes in I have a feeling I will be wearing it for days on end 🙂
and man, this is the first quarter that I will have to report to Donatella 🙁
But Donatella is extra forgiving when you ship something special right from Grasse!
LOLOLOL!!! does this mean that I DON’T have to report it??? 😉
Doesn’t it count as a backup bottle of sorts? Backups don’t count. Problem solved. ????
Ha! I bought two bottles this quarter and both backup including this one!! Thank you ????????????
Ha, on the contrary. She will just be more forgiving when you do 🙂
OK (hanging my head in shame)..guess I must report this quarter 🙁
After all your success in thunking, it’s lovely to see you getting a new bottle of something you enjoy so much!
Thank you for your lovely way of rationalize my purchase…I truly appreciate it 🙂
I agree!
As you know, I love tnhis one, too and loved getting my bottle direct from Grasse several years ago. Plus you are supporting a true indie perfumer who is also a lovely person!
I think I owe you the enabler pin because your wearing it promped me to seek out the almost empty bottle and then get a new one. And yes, Jessica is indeed a lovely person and I am happy to support her.????
Really? *Proudly wears first enabler pin!*
You earned it ???????? I had been on a no buy for a looonngg time LOL ???? ????
Oh man, no more no-buy!!! Congrats!
Let’s hope this is not a trend….I’ve got two in college and one heading next year!!!!
I am in Coco Chanel EdT, a great transitional fragrance. Layered with Coco Noir body cream.
Alahiiiine, Encens Mythique, Le Fille de Berlin, Samsara, and Parfum Sacre are great for chilly evenings. And for chilly mornings warm tea with my homemade scones.
Maybe coco lotion would be on a FB list..or the Parfum.
I am making Jeweled Rice with a lot of saffron and rose water…and baking an acorn squash as a side dish. My kitchen smells fabulous.
Tomorrow I am having a friend over and making puttanesca. Lots of cooking this weekend…
Last night I had a girls night out in Spanish Harlem and had two amazing cocktails with rose infusion.
Happy Weekend!
Saffron is my favorite spice! Your kitchen must indeed smell marvelous.
Girls night out!!! Oh la la!!! I need me one of those 🙂
Me too, cm8! Must make this happen.
????
Mmm, would love to be sitting in your kitchen now…
I’m busy making making curried lentils with tomato and coconut, so my own kitchen is pretty fragrant at the moment.
Care to share your curried lentils recipe?
I can’t take any credit; it’s Yotam Ottolenghi’s recipe:
https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/curried-lentil-tomato-and-coconut-soup
This sounds delicious. I might make it this weekend!
This looks delish. I pinned it and sent it to my daughter. Thank you!
Hah, that’s almost identical to my go-to lunch-for-the-week recipe 🙂 except I don’t put in cilantro. Look at that, I guess I follow Ottolenghi’s philosophy already!
Thanks! I’ll make this soon. I love red lentil soups.
I love most things curry, and all things coconut, but my favorite lentil dish is this one:
https://www.mynewroots.org/site/2010/06/the-best-lentil-salad-ever-2/
That one sounds good – I really like lentil salads.
FM, the vinaigrette on this is just scrumptious – it’s all the spices.
Yum! More Pinterest material! Thanks. ????
Mmm this sounds good too. I love All the Lentils.
Yum — what else was in the amazing cocktails?
Hi Robin,
I had two cocktails one had cava, creme de cassis, jamaica, rose petals, berries and the other had tequila and rose petals and berries with another liquor but I can’t remember, so it must of been good… 😉
Just remembered the last one was had hibiscus in it..like a hibiscus margarita with rose petal infusion
Those both sound so fun! Thanks for the ideas.
Mmm – reminds me of Ormonde Jayne’s Ta’if with saffron & ta’if rose & dates, but you can almost hear the saffron ringing out – I only like it in super hot weather though. Have you tried Byredo Black Saffron? It looks interesting. Have loved saffron ever since a trip to Masshad in Iran where it grows but it’s hard to find a true equivalent in perfume – Ta’if is gorgeous and has a note in it, but I am always searching for a purer stronger saffron note.
It’s turned chilly here all of a sudden & lit my Orris Noir scented candle (also Ormonde Jayne) and it’s perfect -even the dog likes it!
I am so bad at transitional fragrances. I am just so drawn to frags that would typically be considered considered fall or winter fragrances. That said, I am wearing By The Fireplace today. I little on the sweet side, but nice nonetheless.
I wear off-season at least half the time myself.
Hi Robin! Fall is nearly all year in SF – here’s my list..
Theorema Esprit d’Ete (the sandalwood, amber and spice play beautifully together without the heaviness of the original),
Chypre/green favorites are Magie Noire and Bandit (vetiver & galbanum) and SSS Jour Ensoleille, I adore how Laurie perfectly captures the vibe of N. CA. It’s perfectly balanced white flowers over resins, ambergris and oakmoss. This is a holy grail scent along with the original Fendi.
Leather category are Estee Lauder’s Azuree (leather, patchouli and oakmoss), Serge Luten’s Daim Blonde, spicy suede and that jammy apricot note that blooms beautifully in cooler weather and Lancome’s Sikkim, galbanum, oakmoss and leather.
Oh gosh YES to Jour!!! Laurie is /was the master. But I actually like it best in the early spring 🙂
I should give it a spin in Spring! 🙂
IS!
I need to find the city that is summer half the year, spring 1/4 and fall 1/4 😉
Wouldn’t that be perfect??
When you find it please let me know
Robin, I think that place could be in my neck of the woods, the Atlanta area. Come on down! ????
I was just going to say it sounds like South Carolina! Obviously the southeast USA is calling.
It’s nice in winter, right? I’m considering a winter getaway to your part of the world. Never been, but the weather might make a good reason to.
You might be right! Although with global warming maybe all I have to do is stay put and wait about 5 more years.
You and me both. Fingers crossed ????
That would be heaven for me!
Robin, I think that’s where I live! The South Bay of the SF Bay Area. It’s much warmer than up in SF, and the skies are much more clear. Summers are real summers, fall goes from like Nov – Feb, and then comes spring. The only thing you might miss is the smell of summer thunderstorms, since it only ever really rains in Feb/March.
Yeah, I can believe it. I love that area, although not sure there is quite enough sunshine for me. (Not enough where I am now either, mind you.)
Yes to Theorema Esprit d’Ete! I have the original and the Esprit d’Ete and love both.
Oh boy, you’re making me want to break out my Bandit vintage parfum! Now that would be a wonderful transitional perfume for fall. I almost gave my bottle away to a massage client a few years back. I’m so glad I didn’t!!
Given today’s theme, I was just wondering, “Where in this country do you have to live to experience this elusive perfect fall weather – sunny but not hot, with “crisp” mornings and fall colors?” (I’d started to suspect such a place does not exist outside of movies and photo shoots.) But ya, SF is it. The shoulder seasons are so beautiful there (not sure about fall colors, though?) And on top of that, winter is not at all miserable (though summer kinda is 😉 )
Ooh I love your list, SmokeyToes! You have a few I haven’t tried, so I must look them out. I too like Azuree, and almost anything with galbanum. I live in the Southeast, so we are still gasping from the heat (usually it’s cooler by now) and looking forward to October, which is like a New England “Indian summer” that goes on for all month. I have a couple that you’ve named, so I will try them when the weather cools a bit.
Bvlgari parfumee eau the noir is great because it’s dark and resinous but it’s an eau de cologne so not overbearing. I’m also really enjoying arquiste nanban, l’artisan for aedes de venustas, dzonghka, and Naomi goodsir iris cendre. Currently lusting after a bottle of SL la myrrhe, Chanel Bois Des Iles and Cuir de Russie parfum for this fall.
Confession: smelling Nanban on a man makes me just a little weak in the knees… That’s good stuff.
I just got Eau Parfumee Au The Noir, and I like it very much! You’re right, it’s a perfect fall scent. I’ll have to pull out my Dzonghka.
I forgot to mention that at last night’s Journey/Def Leppard concert, the scent most frequently smelled was D & G’s Light Blue (among other things…). 😀
Foreigner was really good but not well attended, they were the opening act. Def Leppard totally killed it, every song was spot on. Journey was great, the lead singer sounded just like Steve Perry.
My hubby was totally floored when he realized where we were going – no small feat on my part, I am NOT good at keeping secrets!
The hubby and I got in around 1:30am this morning, it’s been a LONG time since we’ve seen the other side of midnight.
Woo hoo!! Keeping up with the young’uns. Sounds like a fab evening, and good for you for pulling off that surprise.
Wow!! Sounds so fun!
This Friday I am going to see the Gipsy Kings
Ohhh I love the Gypsy Kings, have a great time!! 🙂
What a great gift! What was your favourite song? I also have tickets to Journey /Def Leppard in two weeks!
SD, The entire Def Leppard set was amazing, Photograph and Hysteria are my favorites. For Journey, it’s Only The Young, I get goosebumps every time I hear it.
The way they found the lead singer is amazing, guitarist Neal Schon found Arnel Pineda (from Manilla) by watching Youtube videos. I think at one point, Arnel was homeless when he was a teenager, after losing his mom to cancer; talk about a rags to riches Cinderella story!
Yes, Arnel’s story is very touching.
So glad it was fun, and so glad he was surprised and happy!
so glad that you both had a fabulous time!!!
That sounds so fun. I’m glad you had a great time!
Happy to hear that you both enjoyed the concert last night! Rock on! ????????????
That sounds like SO much fun!
I want to confess that I still have my Def Leppard concert shirt from, I believe 82 or 83. It’s the sleeveless Union Jack one. I saw them open for Krocus, LOL! Before they were popular. I believe it was for High n Dry, right before Pyromania. It was awesome.
That is awesome you still have your concert tee! Hang onto it!!
Lillyjo, that’s great! I remember the Union Jack t-shirts! 🙂
Glad you guys had fun! I think I’m officially “too old” for late nights out. Did that Friday night (we got in at almost 3 ????) and I felt fairly wretched yesterday.
I needed a nap yesterday and today! Friday night wiped me out! I guess my disco days are over! 🙂
So great! I saw Journey two years ago, with Santana opening for them. Both lived up to expectations; it was amazing to watch Carlos Santana play.
Oh man that must have been fun. I used to love Def Leppard (from when I was little back in the early 80s) but haven’t listened to them in ages.
Once I noticed a chill in the air, I reached for Safran Troublant. There’s a long list of bottles on my wish list, one of which is MFK Lumiere Noir pour femme.
Yay for Safran Troublant!
Yes! Such a perfect cool weather scent.
Both scents are so lovely.
I love ST in all weather 🙂 Good choice!
I think my transition frags for the fall this year will be 4160 Tuesdays Captured by Candlelight and Cuir de Lancome. Things I wish I had are too numerous to list!
Oh, have to go see if I have a sample of Captured by Candlelight!
My summer to fall fragrance is Chergui. SOTD is Bruno Fazzolari’s Unsettled, which I’m really loving. I’ve never had a pineapple scent before, and really love how that note is working with the sandalwood.
Yes to Chergui!
I just got a sample of Unsettled and really liked it. The dry down is gorgeous, and this from just a dabber. I can imagine sprayed it’s even more beautiful. I’ve liked every single BF I’ve tried so far…
I wore unsettled last night from a small sample and really enjoyed it too
I love Chergui too, and was sad to finish my sample, kindly given me by an NSTer, so unusual, and yes such a wonderful unexpected combination!
I meant I finished sample of Unsettled, have a bottle of Chergui!
All the photos this week have been spectacular, but then I’m a nature photography junkie.
In CdG Jaisalmer today to keep the peaceful theme. Only semi-effective as I got stuck in line at the bagel shoppe behind an army size family who dithered about their order forever. Deep breathing and visualizing peaceful scenes over here! Step out of line if you’re not ready to order folks! ????
Have a great weekend all✌????
Glad you have enjoyed them!
I am not good at lines, in general.
I stand aside out of the way if I am still deciding what to order. Funny thing is, very often I have people try to tell me where the line is supposed to be (“The line’s over here!”), and I have to explain that I know where the line is, that is why I am standing somewhere else because I haven’t decided what I want yet.
I’m a bit of a ditherer and stand in line but tell people to go ahead of me until I’m ready.
Good thing that family wasn’t ordering bagels in NYC 😉
I’m not a nature photo junkie at all but my Microsoft screen saver is convinced I am. I have it set to slideshow, and it asks you to rate the photos that come up (aka Love It/Hate It.) I clicked the “love it” on a photo because I loved the architecture (adorable houses painted in primary colors on a waterway somewhere in, like, Amsterdam.)
Since then, it is convinced that I LOVE photos of mountain scenes (I really don’t, at all) no matter how many times I click HATE IT. Which has been about 200x as this has been going on for a few years. It’s like my daily battle, fighting with my screen saver.
My only fall favourite yet (I’m still a newbie) is Les Nuits d’Hadrien by Annick Goutal. It starts citrusy and herbal and then gets warmer and ambery. Summer to fall in one wearing. PS I must like cumin as other people mention it as bothersome and I only get “warm”.
That’s a good pick, newbie or no newbie!
That’s such a beautiful scent. You smell wonderful. I swapped my bottle away a few years ago, so I hope whoever got it is enjoying it!
It’s cold and gray in Cleveland so I am in the Amouage Memoir body products today. Amouage Lyric, Epic, and Memoir are great fall/winter scents. Shalimar, Theorema, and Havana Vanille and great transition scents in fall.
How is Memoir? I’ve tried the one for men and loved it (reminded me of the Pacific Northwest, kind of cedar-y) but not for women. I’ve always wanted to try that one.
The version for women is fabulous. I can’t remember if I have tried the men’s version. The only men’s version that I liked from Amouage is Gold.
I love Memoir for women, too. Very wintry, and not so different from what you’re describing in the men’s version. It kind of reminds me of OJ Women, in feel, though not necessarily similar smelling.
mmmmm, sounds worth a try! Thank you Dawn and kpaint.
Memoir for women is gorgeous! I won’t repeat myself, but my initial impressions are here: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2016/01/29/fragrance-friday-amouages-memoir-woman/. I hope you try it!
I’m with FearsMice in that Cuir de Lancôme is one of my favorite fall scents. I tend to also wear Kelly Calèche – hmmm, I must like soft floral leathers.
I’m trying L’Attesa from a sample someone gave me today. It’s a blind wear, so we will see…
I intended to get outside as soon as College GameDay was over, but my husband is moving slowly (a punk show last night) so, I slowed way down. We will head out soon. I swear it. Or at least after he gets out of the shower…..
L’Atessa is gorgeous
Ooh, what show? I am also an older punk.
Fear.
+1
When fall begins to settle in, the first thing I break out is Yves Rocher Nature Millenaire Pour Homme, which (as its name suggests) was launched in 2000, and quickly discontinued: it’s a genuinely great scent that actually smells like fall — crunchy dried leaves, loamy earth, little curlicues of wood smoke. It’s spectacular. My bottle is still in perfect condition and I hope it lasts at least 18 more autumns.
Good luck with the shelf life! It’s so hard to know whether to use it up or save as much as you can.
This is a great time of year for my beloved Hiram Green’s. Today I’ve pulled out Arbole Arbole, but Shangri La and Slowdive are faves for cool weather. I also gravitate to Mohur, Cuir d’Ange, and une Rose de Kandahar.
Miraculously, I have nothing on my wishlist right now, which is a very good thing as I’ve been running into a lot of unexpected expenses lately.
Oh, I hate those unexpected expenses! Your fall line up sounds amazing!
Arbole Arbole is so good! I love that HG makes those travel sprays.
I pulled my Arbole out recently, awaiting cooler weather. Mmmm.
Hello Fumie Friends! I haven’t stopped by in forever and I’ve missed you. I have a lot to catch up on!
I love the topic for today’s post. During this transitional time, I’ve been wearing a lot of LL The Noir and Santal 33. Also Prada Infusion D’Iris. I just today ordered a full bottle of Phlur Greylocke, which has grown on me so much and I’m about to run out of the sample. I think it will be perfect for fall, but I even enjoyed it during the summer which I did not expect.
Has anyone sniffed the new Phlur scent, Ameline? Ordered a sample.
Greylocke grew on me too..I think it’s great for the summer, fall and spring. When you sample the new Phlur scent please let us know how it is. That is the only one I haven’t tried.
I am anosmic to Phlur scents – so strange. I sprayed and couldn’t pick out anything discernible in 4 of them but my husband could smell them just fine
I ordered a sample of Ameline too! I’ve been impressed by all of their offerings so far. Greylocke is a great rainy day scent for me.
Same here. I really like Phlur.
I wear infusion d’iris often in the spring and fall. 😉
Hi, neighbor! I’ve never been a huge fan of the Prada Iris (I have the Absolue) until this summer. I wore it a ton and loved every minute of it.
Are you in CLE now?!
Yep! Since mid/late June 😀
Woot! Are you liking it so far? Which area did you land in?
Today I’m wearing PdE Musc Tonkin from the swapmeet. I gladly swapped my 100 ml bottle of No. 19 for this. No. 19 is too green and cold for me, and Musc Tonkin is warm and cozy. Probably more a winter scent than fall, though I suppose it depends on the day. Other fall scents I like are the original Aedes, Safran Troublant, 24 Faubourg, African Leather, Le Maroc pour Elle, Oro, Slowdive, and Stash.
Nothing on my wishlist at present, though that may change when I see the splitmeet offerings! Today I am awash in library awesomeness–Lethal White, Time’s Convert, In Pieces, and two other books whose titles escape me at the moment. A couple of these were on my hold list nearly a year.
Stash?! I totally forgot about it. It’s gorgeous at this time of year. I know I have some of the oil around here somewhere…
Foxbins, I did read your post from yesterday. Glad that you liked the Etro Sandalo! It sounds like it wears so much better on you than it did for me.
I’ve always been curious about Maroc pour Elle but I rarely see it mentioned here.
OMG. Clearly ymmv but I always thought I’d love this because of the notes/the name and then I tried it and it was SO AWFUL. Gah. And to think I’d almost blind bought it.
For me, it would be MDCI’s Chypre Palatin. Something about that composition just screams rich green, brown, red and gold to my inner self.
CP is absolutely gorgeous!
I’m in Rose Cut today, a surprise swapmeet bonus from a thoughtful NSTer. This is a nice rose, not as heavy as Lyric, but more substantial than Grace Coddington. It would work nicely as a transitional fragrance. Other favorites: Dzing!, Duel and Omnia, all warm, but lightweight.
I recently organized my samples, decants and bottles, alphabetically by house. Geez, I don’t ever want to let things get that out of hand again. Now, to get ‘em all spreadsheeted…
Walked today, right before the rain came. Hours will be in a rainy pattern for the next little while, which is fine, as we need the moisture. Returned the neighborhood wandering Dal-weenie mix to her mommy. The pupper was just out there trotting on the walking path, like she was supposed to be there. ????
This is a bit of a scattered post…y’all have a great Saturday!
*Houston* will be in a rainy pattern…????
It’s funny how the weather can be so different just a short distance apart. I am just south of you, and we have already had over 12″ of rain this month. I don’t mind the rain itself, but the mosquitoes have been ferocious.
Oh, I feel your pain and itchies. The mosquitoes have been awful here, also. I got up this morning, looked out the window, and it was covered with them. Yuck! I hope they spray soon.
Dzing is one of my fall favorites too!
So good of you to return the wandering pup. I get so stressed when I see loose dogs, probably because I had one who was an escape artist. Fortunately, he’d get loose to go socialize and was friendly, so I was lucky to get a call from a helpful rescuer almost every time.
Omnia is a great transitional scent I find.
The little dog is lucky you looked out for him.
SOTM is Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail, and I love it but it’s too soon – too heavy and sweet for this time of year. Post-shower I’ll switch to something lighter. A few fall favorites in my arsenal are Azemour, Dior Homme, Costes (which autocorrect doesn’t like – how does one tell an ipad to add something to its spell-check library?), JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt, Gucci EDP, and (ironically) Thé Pour un Été. I know I’m forgetting some others, but I’m too lazy to go look at the perfume shelf. Oh! SSS Incense Pure, of course, and Hermes 24 Faubourg, the very queen of fall fragrances as far as I’m concerned. Happy Autumnal Equinox, everyone. ????
Azemour I get, but Thé Pour un Été is an unusual choice!
I know! It might be how it reacts with my skin – very chai-and-milk – or it might be a function of what fall is like in the Pacific Northwest. We don’t usually get frost until well into October (or even November) and quite often early October is sunny and beautiful, but not so stiflingly warm as it gets in August.
24 Faubourg! Definitely a top shelf scent. 😀
I knew you’d approve. ????
Okay, one more fall favorite now that I’ve refreshed my memory: Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur. But today the sun is shining, the deck is calling, and I’m in SMN Eva.
One of my favorite fragrances for summer to autumn transition include Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme, L’Artisan Iris Pallida, Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom.
Today I am wearing Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Rouge for the first time, I think it’s a lovely perfume and also great for this seasonal change.
Rose Anonyme, yes! Especially on a guy.
I agree
I got JM Mimosa & Cardamom to wear in spring but I think fall is really the right season for it. I think it’ll come with me on my 10-day trip to Ottawa that’s right around the corner.
I think for Jo Malone it was actually one of the reasons why they launched it in September those few years ago – because it’s a perfume for autumn 😉
I’ve been reading for three years, but now I’m finally trading in my lurker card for a commentor’s card. NST has been indispensable in the development of my perfume interest; I’m so glad it exists.
I just happen to be sampling Jo Malone Honeysuckle Davana today, and it seems a perfect transitional scent: floral but warm. The moss saves it from sweetness for me. I’ve never been moved to buy a JM, but this one at least gets my respect. I’d happily wear it again.
Hello irisjasmine!
Hi irisjasmine, welcome! It took me a couple of years before I delurked, too. ????
Hi, irisjasmine! NST is a great resource for everything scent related, and many of the comments are helpful if you have any cash lying around that you don’t know what to do with, ha! 🙂
Hello Irisjasmine and welcome!
Welcome irisjasmine!
Hello there!????
Thanks for coming out, and welcome!
So nice to have you join. This JM sounds interesting.
Hi irisjasmine- Welcome! What a lovely name you have! You seem like the color lavender to me.
That JM sounds interesting- haven’t found one that I really like, I must find it at Neimans to sample.
I might just be the color lavender! Someone once told me I was a muted color wheel, which was intended as a compliment, and I took it that way. I don’t know that JM HD is worth a buy, but it’s worth a try!
Hi! It took me a while to start commenting too, you’ll have fun! I’ve tried that new JM too and liked it a lot. I enjoy davana as a fragrance note, it’s a little unpredictable.
As I was going through bottles and samples a few days ago, I realized I was unconsciously sorting them by longevity. That trait may be more important than it should be to me, but darn, if you’re going to charge me an arm and a leg, give me something that I can enjoy for at least half the day (or night). Then I wondered if others care, too, and if so, what are their best and longest. Could this be a topic some week perhaps? For now, I’ll be happy with even a few suggestions.
I think you are on to something… that would be a great community project
oh Yeah CM8- and include a category for the scent eating skin types like myself too?
yeah I am with you on that..my thunking occurs because my skin devours scent 🙁
I generally don’t think to much about longevity, unless it’s a perfume I’m uncertain about, and then I will take away points for not lasting. Most of my bottles are big performers though. Being a big Mugler fan. If I love something enough, I don’t mind reapplying.
My skin holds onto perfume for an extremely long time. However, Andy Tauer’s perfumes last the longest on my skin (not that I’m complaining!).
Same for me. Andy goes on and on and …
I have scent devouring skin but the Tauers do indeed last forever.
Longest lasting scents for me are any Mugler’s, all the Tauers I have tried, my older versions of Opium, and Estee Lauder’s Cinnabar, Knowing, and Azuree. I can easily get 24 hours with the listed scents.
Oh my gosh, yes… Cinnabar and Opium last for days.
I think everything I have from Estée Lauder stays with me for most of the day.
Yes I completely agree with you on the Estee Lauders.
Isn’t it great that Estee Lauder continues to maintain the quality of the house’s fragrances? Consistently high quality tends to be underrated these days, but I appreciate how their fragrances continue to be available, and continue to be good value and good quality.
Longevity definetely factors in for me. I really liked Iris Rebelle, but it lasted all of two hours on my skin. I just can’t pay money for scents that don’t last on me.
Some of the longest lasting for me seem to fall into the oriental category….Obsession, LADDM and Le Labo Santal 33 lasted into the next day for me.
Agree this would be a good community project!
Gosh, I don’t think I’d be able to sort my perfumes that way because No Memory.
I only tend to remember the extremes: Gone In Seconds= Hiris, Apres L’Ondee, Eau des Merveilles, all the Perfumerie Generale=Do Not Buy FB.
The ones that last forever (and there are only a few, as my skin doesn’t tend to project terribly well) I don’t tend to wear very often as I have to be ready to make a full day’s commitment before spraying. One that comes to mind is Alaia (in the black bottle.)
EL Youth Dew Amber Nude, it’s great in the fall and during the holidays.
Youth Dew too, for that matter, almost too long lasting.
I care more in theory, especially in relation to cost, but I’ve also found over the years that perfumes in my collection with >5-6 hour longevity are the ones I get tired of more quickly. I think it’s the sensory overload/fatigue. I like things to fade out by the 5th hour. But I won’t pay for something that fades out in 2-3 hours, unless it’s an inexpensive perfume.
I don’t have a lot with me here in Michigan but it did turn a lot chillier last night and I’ve seen some trees turning. Both Ciel dr Gum and Camel are working well now in the cooler temps.
I hope you’re enjoying this time with your mom. ????
Thanks, and yes, but a lot of it is stressful and emotionally draining.
I’m sending peaceful thoughts your way, and hoping you can steal a little time for yourself at some point. ????
We haven’t really started the summer to fall transition yet here on the TX coast. We were still in the 90s earlier this week, although the return of the rain is keeping it a relatively frigid 85 today. SOTD is Providence Perfume Company Sedona Sweetgrass. I have been wearing this a lot since I bought my bottle at the PPC shop in July. It has just now been added to the online shop, and I hope that there is a review forthcoming here on NST.
I was looking at the Sedona Sweetgrass sample – what is your favorite part of that scent? It sounds amazing.
Do try a sample! When I was in the shop back in July, I sniffed most of the PPC offerings on blotters, then chose about 4 to test on skin. I actually surprised myself by being so drawn to this one, as I would not have expected to like it so much from the notes. I did really like several others (Moss Gown, Love-in-a-Mist, Rose Boheme), but this was the one I kept coming back to. It is quite different from anything else I have, as well, so I figured it is filling a gap in my collection–even if I was previously unaware that the gap existed. It’s sort of smoky but still somehow light. I love that I have a perfume that won’t smother me in the summer but still has some substance to it.I find it to have very good longevity for an all natural perfume. When I have applied it in the morning before work, I can typically still detect it 8 or 10 hours later. My skin tends to eat perfume, so 8+ hours longevity is amazing.
Bigarade Concentrée today. Love this one on Indian summer/early fall days. My other early fall fav is Volutes.
You smell wonderful Laura! I have gone through about 30 mLs of BC (most of which came from you in a swap last year) so, naturally, I decided it was time for a full bottle. And then I got distracted by Paris-Deauville ???? Bigarade is beautiful though, and it’s probably next in line on my to buy list.
I’m happy to send you another decant. I have a big bottle that will never get used in my lifetime!???? My email: laugsb at sbcglobal dot net
You are ever so kind, Laura!
I may take you up on that offer and hopefully I will have something that you enjoy in return ???? Thank you
It has been extra hot and humid here in St. Louis and I spent the summer alternating Bulgari Green Tea, AG Nifeo Mio, and Eau de Guerlain. I’ve been jonesing for cooler temperatures so, for the past few weeks, I’ve started the day with Un Air de Samsara. The mint keeps it fresh and the sandalwood gives it depth, lovely for transitioning to autumn. I’ve been layering on the summer colognes as things get steamy later in the day. I bought a large bottle of QL Queen today for late autumn/winter – dirt cheap online, $23.00.
Queen is the bomb! Such a great scent for mere pennies! ????????
Eau de Guerlain is so good!
It got me through many sweaty 100F+ work days recently – a life saver.
I like your rotation!
I’m reading All Creatures Great and Small and am enjoying the stories about Tricky the pekenese dog – have you read it? so funny ☺️
Tricky Woo! I love All Creatures Great and Small.
Yes to Queen! ????
Ninfeo Mio
I’m wearing California Reverie today – the calendar may say it’s fall, but the 90+ temperatures say otherwise. When fall finally arrives (which I define as lows below 60), I love to break out Jeux des Peau, Gris Clair, LikeThis, Lonesome Rider, Dries van Noten and Jicky. I still keep all my other perfumes in the rotation, however.
I have been so swamped at work lately. I became department head in July, but had no idea how much crap was involved. I have been reading weekday posts around 11 pm, so am too late to repsond. However, I wore Dzongka yesterday because it’s the most peaceful, grounding scent I know. Many thanks to cazaubon for the generous decant.
This may be very time and place specific, but when I was in elementary school (1980-1986) in Canada, we ended every assembly singing “Let there be peace on Earth”. I’m 90% sure my current world view, occupation and lifestyle choices were influenced by that experience. I can’t remember the words to “God Save The Queen”, but I can belt out that hymn at a moment’s notice.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. You all smell amazing, and are the most giving, generous and thoughtful community I know.
Canada is one of my favorite places to visit..
How interesting that you sang that song in school, and that it had such an impact on you.
Hello NST! I am grateful to be back here posting today, after being AWOL yesterday. TMI Alert: I had a colonoscopy yesterday, so was a little sore and antisocial. I also wasn’t wearing any perfume due to said procedure.
I’m feeling much better today. Also VERY grateful that I won’t have to do that again for 10 years!
SOTD = by Killian Gold Knight, from the sample stash, and Hajusuuri. It’s an amazing honey scent on me. I hope that she is enjoying her time in DC today.
Forgot to mention that Gold Knight would make an excellent transitional scent for this time of year! I’d also break out ELdO’s Fils de Dieu… something about it says fall to me, rather than summer.
The prep is worse than the procedure. The stuff they make your drink is nauseating. Glad it was uneventful.
Agree on Fils de Dieu, though I wear it year-round. It’s been my Thanksgiving fragrance for a few years now.
Glad your colonoscopy went fine and that you do not have to repeat it in the near future. Enjoy your weekend now!
I’m glad you are feeling better. I recently got a letter from my doctor alerting me to the fact that I am now in “that” age category that I should be getting a colonoscopy. Thank you very much.????
I’ve heard almost unanimously that the prep is the worst part. I had to have a endoscopy a few years ago and boy, those are some heavy duty drugs! Conscious sedation?! Um, not this girl! I was nighty-night.????
Yeah, the prep is the worst part. I can’t abide plain coconut water because it reminds me of what I had to drink.
I’m agreeing with everyone else that, yes, the prep is the worst part of the whole thing. Ugh! I just shuddered remembering it.
We haven’t had a transition yet, it was 97F here Thursday and 43F this morning! Looks like we are finally settling into a regular fall weather pattern at last. I think Zoologist Civet & Moth, Bottega Veneta, Angel Muse and Stash are good for early fall and beyond. Wearing Musc Ravageur today and it smells wonderful!
I don’t know if it’s ok to ask this here or not, but I am searching for a 5ml decant of Allure edt, preferably to purchase. None of the usual suspects by way of decant services carry Chanel anymore. If anyone can help me out I would be very grateful – email ringthing313 at Gmail. Thanks!
Musc Ravageur is wonderful!
I’m with you on MR. I wear it exclusively in fall (I don’t crave it in any other season) as well as M d’O Musc.
This is a great topic. Thanks Robin!
I got so many great ideas from everyone’s posts. Thank you! Most of my perfumes are for Winter, but I think some good transitionals for Fall would be Bandit, Amber Sultan and vintage Femme.
On another note, I was in Lush Harvard square today and sampled some of the perfumes that got high praise in the 2018 guide to perfumes. I tried Smuggler’s Soul on one wrist and I’m Home on the other. On top of my arm I sprayed “All Good Things”. The former two got four stars and I was pretty underwhelmed by them, although both have nice dry downs but very faint. All Good Things started out as my favorite, kind of spicy musky which is my style, but it soon gave me major nostril fatigue. Somehow I just can’t disassociate Gorilla perfumes from all of the other products in the Lush store: it’s like inhaling an entire bath bomb, total overstim. I want to go back and sample “What Would Love Do”. It’s described as a lemon benzoin which might be right up my ally. If anyone has a favorite Gorilla, please comment!
I always thought of it as a summer scent but I think L’air de Rien could work as a Fall transitional.
I have only sampled it but I think Chypre Mousse would also make as great Fall transitional as well as OJ Woman.
I also had bad luck with the Lush perfumes. I Couldn’t find one that held my interest after the opening.
Yup agree. This is probably where my tastes differ from some of the top ranking perfumes in the guide. I got all hyped up about the “lemon benzoin” review from LT in the guide and rushed back to Lush this morning to sample “What would love do” I sprayed some on my hand from the tester and impulse bought a small bottle. As I was walking around doing errands, I started feeling more and more nauseated and realized that the fragrance was making me feel sick. So I went back and returned the perfume. The SA gave me some attitude about returning it but what could I do?
Same here. I know they get reviewed well, but I just never find them terribly pleasant. I had Breath of God for a while but eventually gave it away. I find them to be a little on the weird/raw side without having enough redeeming factors to take them into “interesting.”
Totally agree. I like subtle perfumes and these have a bit too much personality for my taste.
They really need to have a sample program or something…I can only smell EVERYTHING when I’m in their stores so it’s impossible to test the Gorilla perfumes unless I spritz some on as I’m heading right out the door.
I know, it’s extreme scent overload in the store. Maybe the Gorilla perfumes smell different outside of that context but for me the association is so strong that it kind of taints what I think I’m smelling if that makes any sense.
I’m with you! I recently went to a Lush store to try some of those highly rated scents. Did not like “I’m Home.” Did like “Smuggler’s Soul.” Kind of liked “Breath of God” but wasn’t wowed by it. Was disappointed not to find Kerbside Violet, which I think may be discontinued, as I thought that would suit me best from the descriptions.
Hi Old Herbaceous,
I think you can still get Kerbside Violet on line through the Lush website.
The only LUSH perfume I like is Cardamom Coffee, and I LOVE that one! Can’t stand any of the others I’ve sniffed.
I was testing Une Nuit Magnetique today by the Different Company. It’s a nice scent but not instant love.
Most of my favorite fall scents work for me during winter as well so I have many…. Black Jade, Fils De Dieu, Shangri La, Bees Bliss, Safran Troublant, Box of Eels, Kiss Me Tender, Indochine, Cuir de Lancome, White, Florentina, L’Air du Desert, Ta’if, etc… And I recently tested Le Cri De La Lumiere which is going on my wish list. So pretty.
OOO Florentina! I saw that one as a spring scent but actually now that you mentioned it for fall I guess I could see it as year round…I like the almond and softness of it…. a cuddlefluff for sure for me.
It really has a warm enveloping feel to it. I wear it fall through spring. It’s so cozy!
According to our local weather service office, it will be fall here on October 16. That’s the average for when the low gets into the 60s. Can’t come soon enough!
I’m wearing SSS Pacific Forest today, which is a great transitional scent even here.
I am not kidding, it suddenly smelled like fall here on Saturday, right on schedule, even if the temperature wasn’t quite there. I don’t think the temps have to fall into the 60s, it’s more a smell and a quality of light.
Hi all! Well it’s official fall here. We will be in the sixtys and low seventies this week. Today I wore Cuir Impertinent. I think I’m the only person that loves this perfume. I’m Looking forward to sampling Russian Tea, and wearing Sensual Orchid. Also, of course Alien. Does anyone have a suggestion for something that is like Opium, but not Cinnabar, or Youth Dew? Something that would be an updated version of a spicy oriental?
Don’t laugh, but Smoky Poppy by The Body Shop smells similar to Opium IMHO. I have the shower gel and lotion. It’s so strong that I don’t apply perfume when I use it. ????
Hopefully someone else will have a better suggestion.
Have you ever tried L’Air Du Desert Marocain by Andy Tauer? It’s quite different from Opium but it is an aromatic scent although it is a bit sweeter.
I haven’t, but it’s been on my radar.
Ha! I just checked Fragrantica and it lists smoky poppy in the “this perfume reminds me of,” so it sounds like you are spot on. Has that one been discontinued? I really want to smell it now.
I think that I found it on Amazon after reading Angela’s review. It probably is discontd.
Yes agree! Smokey Poppy is very much like Opium.
You’re not alone, I love Cuir Impertinent too 🙂 Let me know if you ever need a decant. Did you get the postcard about the Mugler Family & Friends sale coming up soon?
I got my postcard on Friday. They are supposed to be doing a gorgeous limited edition bottle of Alien in October. I’m hoping in time for the sale. This year I’m bound and determined to make use of this sale.
Opium is so singular; I’m not sure I’ve smelled anything in the same ballpark. In my head, I’d convinced myself that Obsession and Opium are kind of interchangeable, but the last time I wore Opium I realized that’s entirely erroneous. Obsession definitely qualifies as a spicy oriental, though.
Okay, now I’m massively craving Opium…
I crave Opium too, sometimes. I don’t wear it anymore, due to association with someone else. I wear Coco, but really, it’s on a different level.
I have been loving Cuir Ottoman as you know. I love how is blooms in the warm, sunny fall days, but it also smells so good all evening when it dries down! I also love Shalimar, OJ Woman, Angel Muse, L’Ambre des Merveilles…so many good things for fall.
I love reading al your responses! So many good things I need to try!
Oh and I wish I owned a bottle of Geisha Noire, but alas, I’ll have to make due with my decant. I wore it today and it’s sooo good.
Hi KellyC! Cuir Ottoman is a great scent. I enjoy it too.
I just bought the oil format of Vanilla Hinoki by Aroma M. Their oils are half the price of the EDP and could tide you over. It comes in a rollerball which works well for oil application. I like oils for work because of the low projection plus it’s easy to take along.
I’m really looking forward to wearing Geisha Noire this winter. Have you tried Eris Night Flower? I got some in the swapmeet and only tested it but it reminded me of Geisha Noire.
I bought my GN bottle early this winter (Jan or Feb IIRC) when Aroma M was having a major promotion. I can’t remember what the discount was, but if memory serves, it was quite substantial. Maybe you want to get on her email list for a heads-up on upcoming sales or promos?
BV Eau de Velours to bed…night night!
That’s my favorite of the BVs
Did you buy your samsara?
Yes, I ordered the 1.7 oz size EDP – I might have gone for the 1 ounce – but I really like the clear bottle in the Crimson box 🙂
I enjoyed reading the BDJ article. Something about Samsara has recently captured me – it wasn’t LAFS but I hope I really use and enjoy it this fall and winter season .
Some of the transition perfumes that I enjoy are: SL Feminite du Bois, JM Pomegranate Noir, 10 Corso Como, L’ Artisan Safran Troublant, Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre, Atelier Cologne Silver Iris, Calvin Klein Euphoria, Chanel Coco, Bois des Isles, Cuir de Russie, Caron Parfume Sacre, Hermes 24 Faubourg.
I wish I could own Ormonde Jayne Orris Noir.
Have a happy weekend everyone!
Love your list and there are quite a few on there that I like as well. There was an OJ that I tried at SAKs with orris in the name but not sure if it was Orris Noir or Orris Vanilla? It might have been vanilla and I know I liked it. But my mind was so muddled that day because I must have sampled and sprayed scent cards of 40+ different fragrances.
She makes a Vanille d’Iris too…
That’s the one!!! Thank you madtowngirl!!!
Never tried Orris Vanilla, but it seems to be very good according to the description I just read!
We have a lot of the same favourites!
We are almost twins then! ????
I have seen Safran Troublant mentioned by quite a few and I just got a decant in the swapmeet. I am looking forward to trying it!
I am pretty sure you will enjoy Saffran Troublant a lot. It is a perfect transition perfume. Beautiful and comfy!
Ooh, 10 Corso Como is a great suggestion! Might have to bust that one out soon.
Fall is right on schedule in Boston. Weather is cooler, leaves are starting to turn and I am wearing Marron Chic. Other scents for this time of year include Safran Troublant, Iris Ganache, Ambre de Merveilles, No. 57, Oat and Cornflower, Botrytis and Lann-Ael
Ah, I may pull out Ambre de Merveilles this week.
Another beautiful cool fall day in Montreal, wearing Schwartzlose Leder, a leather scent. Some of my fall favourites are 10 Corso Como, Musc Ravageur, Dries van Noten, Ambre Narguilé, L’Air du Désert Marocain, Bottega Veneta, Bois d’Ascèse and Feminité du Bois.
Beautiful day here too. That’s a great list! You just reminded me I have a mini of Musc Ravageur, I must add that to my list.
Fall is definitely here. Despite the fact that we hit 90 one day this week, the days are getting shorter. It seems like it happened so quickly, now when I leave work in the evening, it is no longer light out. ☹️ Along with the shorter days, I can feel my SAD trying to rear it’s ugly head. Thankfully it has been sunny for the past few days, which helps.
It’s good baking weather, and yesterday madtownteen and I made some paleo dark chocolate chip walnut cookies. Has anyone else noticed the incredibly low price on almond flour at Whole Foods now? 6.99 a pound. They are practically giving it away!
I have been in a Chanel mood for the past couple of days. Friday it was Beige and yesterday I wore Eau Premiere. Today I’m thinking BoE. I’ve been organizing my favorites for fall, so many good ones I’m looking forward to wearing…Obsession, Casmir, Coco, Labdanum 18, BoE, OJ Woman, LADDM, Chergui, Narciso, Samsara, BFMV, Earth Mother….PLUS all the goodies that arrived this week from the swapmeet.???? I am stocked with great fragrances!
Happy Sunday everyone! I hope the sun is also shining where you are!????
Nice scent picks!
Almond flour is usually expensive. Your cookies sound good.
I’ve been harvesting my garden, mostly tomato sauce but I also made a ton of eggplant. I don’t bake very often.
You grow eggplant? I’m not a gardener and such things always impress me 🙂 I cooked a lot of eggplant this summer. They were all over the farmers markets here, generally for $1 a piece (!!) I still have a bunch of eggplant recipes I wanted to try, but the ones I’ve seen over the past couple of weeks seem past their prime so I figured the season’s over. And eggplant really seems to be one of those vegetables that is fantastic in season but not so great once the season is over. *sad face*
we have similar tastes!
That’s crazy about the almond flour. I’m waiting for the cost of my favorite cookies and almond butter to skyrocket, what with the trade war and its effect on almond growers. (Maybe you should get more almond flour and stow it in the freezer?)
That’s what I was thinking…double bag it and stash it in the freezer.
Cold and sunny here and getting ready for little yasmina’s big day. I’m going to wear Istanbul again today for the occasion. Fall favorites are LDDM, Rose Flash, Joop Le Bain (this never gets mentioned here but is apparently very popular affordable option in Germany), and Amber 114 from l’histoire which smells exactly like the discontinued l’occitanne ambre et santal
Yay, hope it was fun!
Autumn has arrived here in The Netherlands, bringing lots of rain and cooler temperatures.
And when leaves are falling I start to crave more resinous, spicy and smoky scents. I love Incense royale, Opium, Arso, Nankun Kodo…..stuff like that.
Tyrannosaurus Rex is a contender for a next buy, but my wish list contains at least three other very good autumn scents haha. ????
Yesterday I visited the former coal mining and cokes production complex ‘Zollverein’ in Essen, Germany. It was awesome!
The industrial buildings now house museums, a casino and restaurants.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zollverein_Coal_Mine_Industrial_Complex
Oh, that looks so interesting!
Twilly today as we head to church – I think it’s innocuous and clean enough. And cooler weather keeps the ginger going a bit more.
I just wish we had a bit more sun to go with nicer temps. So gray out there….
Gray and rainy here all day 🙁
I’m in Chergui. Again. Beautiful cool morning but later this week will be in the 90’s. Heat, go back to He** where you belong!
On a more positive note, I’m about to crunch into a toasted pumpkin bagel while sipping hot peach tea. The smells in my little kitchen are wonderful. Life ain’t half bad!
I wore Chergui yesterday. It’s perfect for a cool evening.
Omg, LOL! We are such evil weather twins! I’m borrowing that line when I see my first snowflake ????????
ha! and I say ha cause you and I are definitely weather twins 🙂
????you know it!
Hey, we balance the universe, right? ????
Love your breakfast…pass me a bagel 😉
Please, send the heat to me right away. It is here were it belongs to! ????☀️????????????
You smell fantastic in Chergui. Another fall fave!
I am in Memento Mori in honor of my Mother – It is slightly melancholy and suits the day. Thunk.
Sympathies for the melancholy day.
So sorry, AngelaB.
Sunday already? I feel like I missed out on a perfectly beautiful day yesterday. We went to a karaoke bar Friday night for the bday of one of my husband’s coworkers. I went semi unwillingly, lol, but it ended up being really fun! When that ended at 11:30, my husband and I thought it’d be great to go to this club downtown for their post-punk dance night, so with late subway slowness/closures favored in, we didn’t get home til nearly 3am. I felt hungover the next day, but without having any drinks ???? I wore Satori for the night.
Transitional scents, some from last year’s roundup: Opium Fleur de Shanghai, Cire Trudon Revolution and Olim, Goest Smoke & Violets, Fazzolari Lampblack, Piguet Calypso, Cuir Ottoman, Ambre Sultan, Au Coeur du Desert, Sarrasins, Hendley Amora and Rosenthal…
Current seasonal lemming is BF Fontevraud, and one that surprised me since I don’t really like gourmands: Lubin Upper 10 for Her. It’s got this fun grape note in the opening, but more tart, like a concord grape tastes. The base is a chocolate raspberry truffle. It just hits the very edge of my sweetness tolerance, but it’s fun and delicious!
That kind of fun does kill you the next day, but it’s worth it to do once in awhile.
Reminds self to go get Rosenthal out . . .
How did you find Smoke & Violets? I’ve been wearing Silent Films this early autumn.
They made it for a store called Catbird in NYC so you have to get it from the Catbird website. Smoke and Violets is definitely my favorite of all the perfumes done by Goest. https://www.catbirdnyc.com/catbird-x-goest-smoke-violets-perfume-30-ml.html
And I now see they make it in 30ml!
They used to only have a 5ml splash, which is what I have.
It was raining most of the day, but it’s sunny now, such a treat to read the comments.
I think to transition I use o.b. scents quite a lot, like Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger Neroli Blanc, and 24 Faubourg. Proper fall perfumes will be, like many of you, Omnia, Moschino, I always think of it as a gentler Obsession, Orla Kiely, YR Folies de Saisons Delires d’Automne (long name, recent discovery and it smells great), Un Bois Vanille, Coco EDT like many among you, Laura Mercier Lumiere d’Ambre (a pastel amber), Molto Missoni (cinnamon goodness), Jacomo Art Collection No 8, vintage Caleche.
Interesting, ob is generally spring to me, although I do wear it year round.
You’re absolutely right, Robin, it should be a spring choice, but I’ve noticed using them especially in the fall, I think because they smell like a promise that spring will come again, I suppose. Yes, year round too with me, it’s one of my favorite notes. Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger is a good house for it.
Summer-to-fall perennial faves are Huitieme Poudre de Riz (which I’m wearing today,) YSL Cinema, and Botrytis. Late summer/Early fall is really the only time I wear them (which I group together as they have similarities to me.) I also usually start to crave Narciso edp (white cube), and the aforementioned Musc Ravageur and MdO Musc. This year I’ve pulled out Edward Bess Genre and La Femme Boheme and Arbole Arbole. It’ll soon be time for All The Patchoulis, including Coromandel, which I always wear to our first symphony outing of the season.
My H & I participated in Museum Day yesterday (which I’d not have been aware of if you hadn’t linked it here – thanks, Robin!) I spent the day swooning all over myself in Guerlain SDV – holy shizz did I smell good. I am rarely able to smell myself during the day, much less all day long, so clearly the perfume gods were on my side. I’d never smelled the transition from boozy woods to smooth vanilla, but it was stunning and the vanilla phase lasted well into the evening. Either I haven’t been applying enough or… (IDK what) but usually SDV fades out way before that transition on me.
We went to the Cleveland History Center, which was fun but prompted more questions than it answered, and left me feeling really bummed out that we missed the Great Lakes Expo (the museum has a fantastic collection of advertising posters.) Just because it ended over 80 years ago doesn’t mean I can’t be heartbroken that I never got to see Billy Rose’s Aquacade, right? #BornInTheWrongCentury
The weather appears to have turned for real, which means it’s time to transition my closet, stat. So much work, but staring at a closet full of sandals, maxi dresses and sleeveless tops doesn’t make getting dressed in the morning any easier.
yay for Museum Day! I went to my city’s little art museum.
and ha! just this morning I looked in my closet and thought the same thing. I need to do a fast re-org before Monday hits like a ton of bricks.
also must decide if I’m going to keep or return a pair of pale lavender cargo pants I bought a few weeks ago, don’t know what I was thinking, but they are fun to look at.
Oh yes, such a wonderful time of year for visiting museums! I’m looking forward to taking my kids to the National history museum in London in a couple weekends time.
that sounds fabulous, your kids are very lucky! I’ve never been to the UK, someday though. 🙂
I’m a Londoner, but live in the countryside now, only an hour and a half away tho.
Do let me know if u do visit tho, and we can go perfume sniffing in London!
As chance may have it, I actually happen to have a pair of pale lavender cargo pants 🙂 I wear them a few times every summer (mine are summer-weight, aka year-round weight for where you live) when I want to be productive and pretend I’m Rosie the Riveter 😉
SotD = CdG Avignon
Going to play the piano and accompany a children’s choir rehearsal this morning at a local church.
Have a super Sunday, NSTers.
You smell great. Hope you enjoyed your morning.
thanks, KellyC! It was a good morning, and I even got a few sniffs from the kids in the choir. They liked Avignon. 🙂
Old transitional faves are: Chergui, Iris de Nuit & Hippie rose (both heeley), Dzonka, Safari, Cuir De Lancôme and Vetiver Insolent.
New favourites are Dzing! (loving my new bottle!, only second of year.) and samples: Onda EdP, Eau Velours, (B.V), and Nuit de Bakélite.
SOTM was Frapin L’Humaniste for my morning walk. The weather was glorious, partly cloudy with a cool breeze. Met a sweet black lab puppy named Daisy, who was a little hand shy. This is why I like walking outside as opposed to cranking out time on the treadmill…you don’t get to meet sweet lab pups in the gym.
I spritzed Hiris, from the swapmeet, after my shower. My wallet would be in trouble if only this beauty lasted longer! ????
Hey gang, lots of stuff going on with my short getaway to Washington DC.
SOTD Saturday = Chanel No.5 L’eau. Copious amounts. The volume I used made it into a vanilla-inflected Eau Premiere
SOTD Sunday before going out to dinner = Kilian Woman in Gold. THUNK. It was this sample that made me fall in love. Every time I wear this, I keep wanting to ask the women standing next to me what perfume they are wearing. I didn’t ask because it was really me.
SOTD Sunday for Dinner = Mugler Aura EDP. For those who have not tried it, it smells like Angel Muse with the hazelnut note replaced with vanilla. W00t!
It’s been a very packed itinerary. I need to. come back because it is too much to take in! I could see myself spending a whole day in the Newseum. The 9-11 section was the most poignant for me not because of the artifacts there but because of an empty tissue holder.
I saw the Obamas’ portraits. If you look at MO’s, it does NOT look like her at all. Clinton’s portrait by Chuck Close.
To be continued when I have more time!
I have thought from photos that MO’s portrait, while visually arresting, does not look like her. Good to hear it confirmed. I really like – again from photos – BO’s. Just as a painting plus it looks like him!
Sounds like a busy and fun trip!
BO”s definitely looks like him. I was wondering why they were not shown side x side, then it hit me later n that the gallery was for former presidents.
Sounds like a jam packed weekend! Hopefully, commuting woes have been minimal????
Other than someone taking my usual spot on the bus yesterday, no commuting woes!
I think I may have walked past the Newseum the last time I was in DC. How cool! BTW, where did you have dinner?
In say the Newseum is a must see, well worth the entrance fee (although my tour was part of an all inclusive package). Dinner was in Arlington at a place called Barley Mac. Huge portions, very well done except the dessert (too dry).
oh, what a wonderful weekend for you! I’ve heard great things about the Newseum.
You smell great in Aura. My first sniff was mostly woody menthol. But I’ve tried it several times more from a tester, each time I get more vanilla, probably because I’m getting braver and spraying more. 😉
I am wearing Aura again today. I was going to THUNK my sample spray but decided to take the remnants with me as EBP.
Today, we’re going to the National Museum of African American History and Culture and then onto the National Museum of American History.
And I meant to mention that our tour at the NMAAHCis being led by curators. The husband of the former director of the Newark Museum was in the planning committee of the museum so it’s a special tour.
Narciso for Him EDP. The scent has that cold side to it, but the iris really makes it cuddly and soft for a men’s fragrance. Perfect representation of today with the cold air and the sun hitting your skin, you get that brisk fresh feeling and the light touch of the sun warming your soul. This is my favourite for this time of year, especially on a lazy Sunday like today.
*curls up on the couch, pulls blanket close and rests head on favourite pillow, and just smiles
So many great scents above — you all smell great! It is still very hot here, above 90 F all week, and my garden is suffering from an extended drought. Once it starts feeling like fall (which may be this week, as it’s supposed to cool off and rain, I’ll wear things like Dryad, VCA L’Automne, maybe Un Jardin Apres La Mousson if it stays warm. I’m eager to try out Cuir de Lancome and St. Clair Scents’ Frost, which I think will be perfect for October (which is like an extended “Indian summer” here — beautiful).
First full day of fall for me, and it sure feels like it. Last night, it even smelled like autumn. That sure changed over quick. ????????????
SOTD = by Killian Woman in Gold, so I’m a partial scent twin with Hajusuuri. This also smells great over the far drydown of Gold Knight. I’d say that those two perfumes are one of the best matched pair of scents that I have ever smelled. They really and truly do complement each other very well.
Yay scent twin. Both are very well made and well paired!
It is time to break out the Solstice Scents autumn-themed fragrance oils–Kitchen, Sycamore Chai, Maplewood Inn, and my favorite–Pumpkin Spice Latte!
