French niche line By Kilian has launched Dark Lord, a new fragrance.
Dark Lord "Ex Tenebris Lux' is a gentleman of the night. Meet him in the most surprising of circumstances and his mystery slowly unfolds: A head-twisting mix of shadows and light, it seduces in seconds with its elegant, long-lasting accords of leather and strong vetiver, its jasmine drenched in rum, and a dandyish entrance of bergamot and pepper. Under lock and tasseled key, a 1.7 oz. flacon is carved with the Achilles’ Shield as a symbol of protection and finished with monogram-engraved gunmetal details. A smiling skull rises like a monument atop a black lacquered wooden coffret, illuminating a display of grim magnificence.
By Kilian Dark Lord is available at Saks Fifth Avenue, $295 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

I know it shouldn’t matter, but I don’t like this brand because of its death marketing. No matter what the scent, I couldn’t own a coffin box, or wear something called Dark Lord. Logically, I know it’s a gimmick, but I’m superstitious and frankly I don’t need any more bad luck.
I don’t like this brand because I don’t think they’re worth the money. Doesn’t matter how you get there, it’s just good to have brands you can ignore now that there are 3000 new perfumes a year 🙂
I’ve sampled a few, and agree they are to expensive for what they are. I think alot of the cost is in the presentation, which is fine, but I don’t care for the presentation. Alot of people do though.
Sorry, sounds like silliness to me… just brings Voldemort to mind, er, I mean he who must not be named.
🙂
Actually, I am pretty certain my ex-husband is he who must not be named.
Excellent!
Haha! You made me smile and LOL!!
My Mom always said my Father’s Mom was “She who must be obeyed”Hahahahaha!!!
I actually lol’d
Ha! That’s excellent…
Why the darkness,Kilian? How about Love and Light for your next release.
Good name for a fragrance!
I think Jlo has a perfume similar to that name.
I have been increasingly annoyed with BK for some time. I think the scents are good, but so not worth the money. I’ve gone through 3 2ml samples of Rose Oud, 5mls of Beyond Love, and a 10ml travel spray of Sweet Redemption, and am working on a second of SR… but the newer stuff is just beyond me, really.
Besides which, every time I wear SR, my youngest son says, “You smell like lollipops.”
Me “I’m wearing Dark Lord”
Friend: “Dungeon and Dragons?”
Ha!
Darth Vader would snort derisively at the mere thought of wearing anything that foofy. And then Force-choke the person who wrote that ad copy.
Wishful thinking, but yes, where is the Darth when you ACTUALLY need him!?Haha
Ha! I immediately thought of Star Wars when I read this. Mystery and darkness play a part in lots of marketing for men’s scents, but come on. It just gets silly sometimes.
I feel like this is something I should like, but.. I dunno… feels like it’s trying too hard? It kind of seems like a bored rich person who is trying on a “dark” persona to freak out the squares at the country club or something. I just keep thinking that a brand like BPAL does this kind of thing better and at least doesn’t charge you a kidney for it.
