Givenchy has launched Eau de Givenchy, a new musky citrus version of their 1980 fragrance. The fragrance was inspired by Hubert de Givenchy's Clos Fiorentina mansion and its gardens in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat in the South of France.
Sublime blooms submerged in freshness unveil themselves in a new aquatic light.
A unique sensation of purity. The quintessence of flowers distilled.
Citrus orchards in bloom reveal their fruits: as bergamot, mandarin, and lemon blossom bring zestful exhilaration. Bitter almonds add bite as a floral white caress weaves around a Neroli and Orange Blossom heart, only subverted by comforting musks on a bed of cocooning cedar.
A moment of freshness suspended in time that feels like it could last forever.
Additional notes include petitgrain, orange, green notes, hedione, vetiver and white musk.
Givenchy Eau de Givenchy is available in 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

A “new aquatic light”. Three words to make the heart sink. I know whimpering about the death of old perfumes is useless, I know. Perfume moves on, and there’s no point bleating about it. But boy, I loved that old Eau de Givenchy. It was the first perfume I ever owned, and I liked smelling just a little bit different than anyone else at school. It was a lovely, radiant scent that felt just right for a shy, bookish teenager in the ’90s. Distinctive enough that friends could always identify my coat in a pile, but not odd enough to catch critical attention from jerks.
RIP old Eau de Givenchy. Thanks for the prettiness.
I loved the original (right down to the pretty blue cap), it was likewise my signature at one time. I am not a fan of Francois Demachy’s standard practice of keeping the same name for a totally different fragrance.
I loved the original too!
I loved the original too, up until the mid-2000s anyway. I’m not sure if it was a bad bottle or me, but it suddenly smelled like men’s aftershave. Has the original been discontinued? The mid- 1990s formulation was so lemony and refreshing. Sigh.
OMG, this is what happens when you comment before caffeine. I confused this with Eau de Rochas. Still I’ll miss the original Eau de Givenchy because, it too, was classic and refreshing.
So glad you came back to explain, because I was puzzled!
The original was gorgeous – one of my favourites which I wish was still available. The notes here look lovely but my anticipation of trying this was squelched when I read “aquatic”. Nice to see something green though, in what seems like a never stopping conveyor belt of pink filled bottles… like the episode of I Love Lucy where she and Ethel are working in the candy factory and can’t keep up with the volume of chocolates heading their way! That’s how I envision the perfume world these days 🙂
That is a such a classic episode!????
The term “aquatic” in fragrance turns me of as well.
I believe they are positioning it as unisex, so the pink was presumably not an option.
I liked the original a lot. Still have some from the reissued classics line. “Aquatic ” makes me happy and I will have to try this new one. Also not enamoured of the practice of using an old name for a “new fragrance. The bottle is SO boring!
And if anybody is looking for some, I have seen the reissued classic around online fairly recently! Sorry I can’t remember where.
Give me “aquatic” over “white musk” any day….
I’m with you, Kevin!
Yes, please!
The original IS gorgeous. A while ago I acquired two mini bottles and drained them so fast. A shame this current rendition is not the same.
