The third entry in our annual series on fragrance related holiday gifts is all about home fragrance. As always, please add any of your own picks in the comments!
From Poglia, the Affumicata candle: "We collaborated with Joya Studios to create a signature candle and scent, Affumicata (“smokey” in Italian), a comforting smell with notes of sandalwood, saddle leather and pepper. The base of each piece is a porcelain vessel with a 22k gold rim, and the imprint of Poglia’s horse-shoe ring on the back. The lids are also made of porcelain and adorned with a solid brass piece. Each candle was hand-poured in Brooklyn, NY." With notes of Brazilian pepper, saddle leather, brushed suede, hay, charred oak and sandalwood, 260g, $135.
From Skandinavisk, the Sense of Scandinavia gift set, with "...the 9 chapters of the Scandinavian story in form of fragrances in a fine and solid box. The candles in the box are Forest, Fjord, Island, Sea, Bear, Koto, Hygge, Lempi and Ro." Nine 55g candles are $135 at Finnish Design Shop.
From Uncommon Goods, Pine Cone Scented Firestarters ("These all natural firestarters are the perfect housewarming gift in more ways than one. Whether you're starting up the grill or hearth, the organic beeswax and essential oil pine cones bring a deliciously evergreen scent to your homestead and come packaged in a rustic wooden box. Handmade by Christophe Pourny in Brooklyn, New York.") $50.
From Farmhouse Pottery, a Milk Bottle Match Striker to hold the matches next to your favorite scented candles. "This handmade Milk Bottle Match Striker doesn’t just sit pretty on a table. Store matches and light them all in one spot by striking them directly on Farmhouse Pottery’s special stoneware." $38 at Huckberry.
Annick Goutal's holiday candle gets a new name and spiffy new packaging for 2017: Une Foret d'Or ("Une Foret d'Or, the addictive Noel candle is wrapped in a midnight blue glass, lushly covered with white and gold leaves. This concentrate of orange peel, Brazilian mandarin and Siberian pine evokes the subtle flicker of a winter night under the snow and the stars. An enchanted forest where dreams come true.") $90 for the 300g candle, or for a 3-candle coffret with 70g each of Foret d'Or, Eau d'Hadrien and Amber, at Saks.
From Cire Trudon, the Promeneuse Candle and Scented Wax Set ("La Promeneuse is a decorative object designed to diffuse the Cire Trudon fragrances. After placing a cameo in the ceramic dish, light a night-light beneath it. The heated cameo will melt and spread its fragrance rapidly into the air. La Promeneuse allows to easily change fragrances. 4 scented cameos (Abd El Kader, Ernesto, Odalisque et Solis Rex) and 4 night lights are included in La Promeneuse.") $275 at Cire Trudon.
From Diptyque, a Le Redouté ceramic candle snuffer ("Made in Portugal in an expert ceramic workshop, this candle snuffer reflects one of the house's legendary prints, le redouté, in a palette of green, gray, black and white. This collection of candle stands and snuffers have playful patterns that create a light-hearted atmosphere when placed together.") $48, and the matching ceramic candle stand is $35, at Diptyque.
From Frédéric Malle's limited edition Laguna B candle collection, featuring "a beautiful Murano glass vessel painted with a multicolored abstract design and showcasing fine Venetian craftsmanship", the Russian Nights candle with fragrance by Sophia Grojsman ("A night at Café Pushkin, where rich spice cake is served with black tea from a silver samovar. Outside, snow coats the streets and candied spires of Saint Basil’s cathedral, and a babushka’s impassioned song travels in the wind. Nutmeg, cinnamon, iris and sandalwood, for northern frosty nights.") $200 at Barneys.
From Santa Maria Novella, Inverno Room Spray: "Santa Maria Novella takes you to Geneva for the Holidays! Crisp cold snow, frosted cypress tress and winter spices make up this fresh and pungent blend. The most wonderful fragrance!" $80 at Aedes.
From Esteban, a holiday hanging sachet to hang on the tree, in Cinnamon + Cranberry (shown) or Fir + Exquisite Amber. $8 each.
Want the Goutal, Cire Trudon and the Malle candles–they are gorgeous. With all apologies, the Poglia makes me think of The Godfather, and not in a Christmassy way.
No, that is not Christmassy!
I initially panicked when I couldn’t find the traditional AG Noël candle online this year (in the US). Then I happened to compare notes and saw that Une Foret d’Or has the traditional Noël notes. Whew! It really is my favorite holiday scent.
But I ordered the traditional candle from Celeste Parfums in the Netherlands just in case and because I like the traditional dove gray, white, and gold.
Kevin very kindly sent me a decant of the Noel spray and I still use that, it’s lovely. When it finally runs out I’ll have to buy some…
Enjoy your candle!
