LOL! Bad macarons are pretty bad, and they are the only kind I can buy locally.
Good macarons are like heaven. I can still remember the taste of the chocolate passionfruit ones I used to get at Fauchon in NYC.
I *just* had Ladurée macarons for the first time, brought as a hostess gift by friends who picked them up during a stopover at Charles de Gaulle. I’ve had macarons elsewhere that I thought were pretty darn good, but these were spectacular. The flavors seemed more true and intense. I think they go for €2 apiece at the Ladurée shop here in Rome. Probably worth it.
Yes — really good macarons are just amazing, and the Fauchon store had incredible flavors. I don’t know who sells great macarons in NYC these days, but I’m sure someone does. I have never had one from Laduree!
My husband very kindly bought me some pretty macarons from a nearby bakery last week and it was as though they were not even the same food product.
Yesss, the good macarons are like heaven!
Pierre Hermé, I’d walk miles for them. Matter of fact, I did once. I made a detour to visit an upscale hotel in Tokyo where they had a PH shop. It was a huge building. Inside it took me 20 minutes to find the shop hahaha. 🙂
