A selection of wood-wick candles (the wood crackles while they burn) from Raleigh company Porch Fly. They specialize in clothing, but co-owner Joshua Gruder wanted to make a whiskey-scented candle, so he apparently ordered 300+ candles to see what was out there, and then consulted with a local candlemaker. They've now got 14 fragrances. $30 each, free shipping. I might order one of these before the day is out. (And you can read more at Inspired by whiskey, Porch Fly creates a different kind of candle at The News & Observer.)

Naughty Robin with all these lemmings. I am still enjoying my unburnt Roja Dove Christmas candle and adding a whiskey-scented one to the mix may not be a bad idea :-).
I bought a Papier d’Armenie (the Year of Armenia one) candle for Xmas, and honestly, I’ve never burnt it yet. I put a lid on it, and when I want my office to smell great I just take the lid off for an hour. It’s my favorite candle ever.
Ooh! Can I ask where you found this? It was on my wishlist long ago, then lost/forgotten. Thanks!
I wanted one for years, finally caved and ordered from the UK at Rouillier White. Shipping surprisingly reasonable — it was still much cheaper than luxury candles I’ve bought and disliked and barely used. Ha.
But, I should note that since I’ve never burned it, I have no idea how it performs under intended conditions!
Reader, I bought one! (via Amazon)
Oh good, hope you love it!
I’m a sucker for candles, especially having cats… these sound lovely. I’ve already looked and the floral Appalachian Bloom might be calling my name.
That one does sound really pretty! I’d also love to smell Carolina Campfire and Morning Porch, and maybe Oak & Fir. I might not be able to order because I might not be able to make up my mind.
I save an awful lot of money via simple indecision.
I’m the same way… often when I sit back and try to decide, the desire fades away. If it doesn’t, then I know a buy makes sense.
I have a number of winter scents with fir, tobacco and similar.
I admit the wood wick intrigues more than anything else.
Oh, a local company! Good price point, too. I’ll have to give these a try.
Oh, please go over there and smell them, and tell us which one is best!
What’s weird is I can’t figure out which is the first one they made, the whiskey one. It doesn’t seem to be the Whiskey Root, from what I can see that came out later.
Hmmm that Oak & Fir candle is calling my name. I’m on a perfume no-buy, but that needn’t extend to candles, right?
Of course not! If Donatella doesn’t count it, it doesn’t count.
It’s perfumath free so it doesn’t count!
Thank you for sharing this company. Any place that makes a t-shirt like this gets my business! : https://porchfly.com/collections/homepage/products/viking-squirrels
Oh, didn’t even check the clothes — might need the meat pyramid shirt!
I am ordering that one for my father! Years ago I bought him a t-shirt from Barndiva (quick search did not come up with it so they may no longer make it) of a rustic looking lamb on a grassy hill with the cheery message “Eat the view!”, which he still loves.
The Banjo Bear is awesome!
