It's $75 for 75 ml so it won't be happening, but I'm seriously lemming the new Frédéric Malle + Olivia Giacobetti Iris Hand Cream / Creme Pour Les Mains au Beurre d'Iris. Someone do alert me if you see it marked down to around, say, $20? The blurb: "Frédéric Malle honors iris concrete’s historical use as precious perfume for the gloves and hands of the Medici family. Its colorless, silky texture was harnessed by Olivia Giacobetti with musk and woody notes to produce a clean, soft scent to accompany you wherever you go."

Very much agree!
With the lemming part or the “it won’t be happening” part?
😉
Both!
But nozknoz (helped by Candy Perfume Boy) is now having an impact on my thinking …
Depending on how strong and lasting the scent is, it might be a reasonably priced solid perfume in a tube. 😉
I’ve always been skeptical of solids partly because most of the containers don’t seem to be sealed well enough to prevent the scent from evaporating, and tubes might be a workable approach.
Well, you never know, but it sure doesn’t sound like it! I’d love to test it next to the L’Occitane Subtle Violet, which is definitely not the best hand cream in the industry.
Well, on the FM website they do say the body creams can work as solid perfume, so this might work, too. I have samples of POAL cream and oil that I’m going to experiment with for this purpose.
CobraRose, is somebody on-line selling the samples?
I got mine on eBay. They show up there from time to time.
Thanks, CobraRose; once again, all roads lead to eBay!
I use Biotherm Hand Cream religiously because is makes my nails grow. I buy 4 tubes near Xmas because they come in gift sets at a slight discount and the 4 last for a year.
The Biomains? Not a bad price on Amazon, I’ll have to see if I can find a tester in a store.
I noticed that Candy Perfume Boy has reviewed it:

Ah, thank you! The combo of “white musk” + “a subtle trail of iris” has helped to make my lemming far more manageable 🙂
We need something like the memory wipe gadget in Men in Black to rid any fragrance of white musk. 🙂
Now, that is something I would buy in a heartbeat! LOL! What is it with perfectly competent perfumers and “white musk”, anyway?
It’s cheap and people like it — the only two ingredients in any perfume these days.
Ha! But no, we need lots of white musk, otherwise, I would want EVERYTHING.
If it resembles the iris + musk combo in Iunx L’Eau Blanche, I wouldn’t necessarily hate it.
In truth, Robin, that does not sound like an insane amount of money to me, especially if you loved it (although it doesn’t sound as if you would). Think of it a $75 bottle that you loved and wore all the time and eventually got to the bottom of (and we all know how rare that is). For hand cream, it’s pricey: for gorgeous perfume, entirely reasonable.
It may or may not be insane — I salute anyone who buys it and enjoys it!
I could buy this if I wanted to — I have the money, although my son is starting college next year and then I won’t have the money, LOL — but it just does not fit into my financial relationship with scent.
Another way to put it: there is almost no way this could bring me enough joy to counter the incredibly bad feeling I would get from spending $75 on hand cream.
My antidote to bad feelings about spending $X on perfume-related purchases is to donate an equal or greater amount to charity. I know this basically doubles the price of the perfume but, eh, I am doing something good somewhere in the universe.
Yes you are! And did not at all mean to imply that anybody else should feel bad about any amount of money that they spend on anything. I perfectly happily shell out money for other things that I know some people would find a total waste — we all have our own thresholds.
They had a couple of unattended tubes on this in Liberty tonight and I maanged to slather myself in it. An hour later I could hardly smell a thing – was a bit too subtle for me given the price- especially when I coated myself in it !
Excellent, thank you!
You have made me feel so much better.
I just bought two tubes after trying out a sample. Robin, you like ISM…and well, you have to smell it for yourself 🙂
Hajusuuri,
Review, please!
The cream itself is silky smooth. The scent is “medium” as long as you’re not wearing an assertive perfume. I have never smelled L’eau Blanche. To me it smells like Iris Silver Mist. Also see my response back to Robin.
Thanks, hajusuuri! That this is “medium” may be just right for me (I tried to wear Crabtree & Evelyn Iris hand cream, but it was too much).
Really, is it ISM in a hand cream?
For science, I did a side by side comparison: one spritz of ISM on my left index finger knuckle and Iris hand cream on my right hand. The Iris in the hand cream is definitely of the rooty variety but it is not as strong as in ISM. The Iris hand cream has none of the sweetness of ISM either and has a slightly salty / buttery smell.
Thank you for the science! Maybe tomorrow I will spritz some ISM on my Cerave cream and see how happy that makes me 😉
I love hand cream, and FM Iris sounds lovely. The Medici marketing spin is on point. Really I wouldn’t dare buy this without trying it first and that’s unlikely so I’m safe.
Although . . . on Friday I made a rare trip to the bank to take care of some paperwork and first decided to gather up all my spare change. A three-fourths full sandwich size plastic bag of coins was worth over $92 . . . and then there’s that cashback bonus on my credit card . . . eep!
Free money. Now how can we spend it?
As a devout Frédéric Malle disciple (iris lover too) this product is perfect. Down to the cheesy yet effective backstory – this lotion is, in my opinion, exactly what I am looking for in a hand cream: non-invasive scent, non-greasy, long-lasting moisturizing. I think it’s comparable to a nice face cream/serum – that silkiness you get. Price aside – love it.
