It's October — rabbit rabbit rabbit! And today is the last day of the splitmeet.
Our poll today is a repeat from 2010, about transitional fragrances: what are your favorite fragrances as summer turns to fall? What scent makes you happy as the nights get chilly and the days take on that crisp edge? And tell us what perfume you wish you owned for chilly weather.
Or, as always, talk about something else.

Elegant and subversive in Tabac Blond extrait Caron.
Grocery store, tree trimming, errands-perfume makes the mundane, enjoyable!
Cheers!
😀
So true! And you smell wonderful in your Tabac Blond extrait. I was just sniffing mine last night, and thinking it might be time to get this one back into the rotation.
It sure does. Cheers, Bear!
SOTD IS MY VERY OWN DE PROFUNDIS BELL JAR MINE MINE MINEEEEE
It’s my shop one year anniversary present to myself, so it smells like chrysanthemums and deepest pride 🙂
Transitional doesn’t mean much to me as a fragrance concept, since I wear the strong stuff year round, but I would happily take the excellent Luckyscent Decennial Bois Bourbon for the winter. It’s hot toddy time, after all!
Ah! Congratulations, happy anniversary, and you smell absolutely heavenly!
Me too RE: both De Profundis and anniversary congrats!
Hi Ari. So happy De Profundis is finally with you. I know you’ll enjoy it.
And happy anniversary to your Scented Luxuries shop 🙂
That’s a fantastic anniversary present, and so well-deserved!!!
Happy anniversary! I hope some day to be in the DC area and get to visit your shop.
Mazel tov and Happy New Year, Ari!
Congrats on your milestone and beautiful purple juice!
Happy Anniversary! You will wear the De Profundis beautifully, and may you always wear it in health and happiness!
Ah, that is a good buy! I got myself a bell jar of De profundis when I started a new job. It is a great paradigm shift – fragrance. A great way to celebrate a fine accomplishment 🙂
Many congratulations! A perfect anniversary present in so many ways!
Congratulations on your anniversary and your bell jar! May you have many more years of success.
Congratulations on the shop anniversary! De Profundis is a suitably wonderful celebration 🙂
Congratulations! I hope you have decades of continued success. And you smell sublime!
Congratulations on your first anniversary!
Adding to the congrats, and a bell jar is a perfect way to celebrate!
Congrats, Ari!
Congratulations in your anniversary! And the bell jar, of course.
Happy Anniversary!
Congratulations! Happy Anniversary!
Congrats on your anniversary and your new bottle! Me three on De Profundis. Mine was a bday gift from the hubs, not that he knows that! ????
Congratulations on one year Ari, enjoy your new treasure. 🙂
What a wonderful present, de profundis sounds exquisite and extremely special, perfect for autumnal changes.
Congratulations on you’re bell jar!
Congratulations! Someday, someday I hope to visit.
Congratulations !!!!
Surely someone else is about to post – I’m never the first!
SOTM is Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme, and right at this moment it is the fragrance I wish I owned for fall’s lovely crisp days – it’s quite wonderful. Love the hint of slightly sweet tobacco. Other fall favorites are almost too many to list – it’s the genre I like best. A few hits are Dior Homme, Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail, Serge Lutens Cuir Mauresque, Dior Cuir Cannage, Tom Ford Violet Blonde, Azemour les Oranges, Tam Dao, Barbara Bui, and Flowerbomb. There are others, but I’m doing this from memory and am too comfy in my chair with my coffee to get up and go look. 🙂
I would never thought of Azemour as a perfume for autumn transition but it sounds like a good idea. Will give it a try. That bottle cannot be used only in the summer
Azemour is actually wonderful for crisp, clear days. And you’re so right that it shouldn’t be relegated solely to summer – it’s just so beautiful.
I agree, it’s gorgeous on a sunny, golden autumnal day, and cheerful and uplifting on a rainy miserable one!
I give Azemour a lot of skin time year-round but find it really sparkles on a crisp, cool day.
You’ve inspired me with your shoulder season choices. Ahem, not to enable or anything but I am (mwahahahaha): TF Noir Pour Femme is available at the discounters…
Really?! Off I go, wallet atremble. 🙂
… aaaaand done. Another gem for hajusuuri’s Enabler Tiara. 😉
Which discounters? Asking for a family member ….
Fragrancenet 🙂
Yay!! It’s on my most wanted list for fall and winter.
ROTFL!!! That’s what all of the addicts say… just sayin…;-)
A friend wants to know, eh?
Exaaaaactly!
Hello NST! As the weather got transitional here, with mornings at around 7*C and afternoons still reaching up to 18-20*C, I caught a cold. But I’m feeling better and my nose is not blocked.
I like it when the weather gets more like Autumn for I can reach for some heavier (yet I don’t have anything super heavy) fragrances.
This transitional period calls for some Jul et Mad Amour de Palazzo, Parfum d’Empire Eau de Gloire or even Carner Barcelona Rima XI. They are somehow nostalgic in my opinion.
Actually the perfume I’d like to have for this kind of weather would be Iris Poudre from Frederic Malle. Wouldn’t that smell great as you watch leaves to fall from the trees in a park?
PS. SotD is Le Galion Sang Bleu
I was feeling indecisive this morning, but thanks to you I now have some Iris Poudre on. I should splash out and get the Le Galion sample set, although I am not sure about whether they ship to Canada.
You smell great Annie.
Unfortunately I don’t know if Le Galion ships to Canada. Hopefully they’ll have a US distributor soon.
Beautyspin carries at least some of the Le Galions. I can’t tell from the website whether they will ship to Canada.
I have a sample of Iris Poudre on the way, and I can’t wait to try it!
My favorite transitional fall fragrance is Chergui. It can be worn in the summer as well – it blooms beautifully – but I primarily think of it as a fall scent, perhaps because I love to wear it with an orange cashmere sweater.
SOTD: by Killian Rose Oud, for my anniversary dinner tonight!
Happy Anniversary jirish! I read in the comments yesterday that it will be high-end fried chicken. Will you be using your fingers or will you pull a George Costanza with a Snickers bar?
And Chergui!!!! I haven’t worn mine in quite a while and today is the PERFECT day for it…although now also thinking about TF Noir Pour Femme. So many choices, so little time….
The perfect opportunity to do an arm-to-arm comparison of Chergui vs Noir Pour Femme, and then come tell us how the two stack up!
I’m going to a place that does chicken 3-ways, kind of like a take on Peking Duck. So they brine and then fry the thighs, the breasts are blackened, and the leg meat is poached and then turned into a chicken salad. So I think it will be a mix of fingers and utensils! The restaurant’s called Roister. It’s in Chicago, and is the casual sister of Alinea, a very upscale restaurant here. Chergui – I wore it yesterday and it was perfect!
How was Roister?? I was just watching The Chef’s Table on Netflix about Grant Atchez and drooling…
Happy anniversary! Kilian Rose Oud is delish.
Happy anniversary! I almost wore some Chergui today 🙂
This time of year, I seem to wear a lot of chypres, vetivers, and leathers. Cabochard, EL Private Collection & Azurée, L’Air du Desert Marocain, Encre Noire. I’d love someday to go full-bottle on Fumerie Turque and Reglisse Noire for October and November. But right now I’m wearing Canturi EdP, because it’s evaporating in the mini-bottle and I’d better use it before I lose it.
Canturi is one of my all time top cheap thrills. I recently sent a decant to someone and it gave her headache, so it definitely is not for everyone!
I agree. I’ve made the mistake of wearing too much and found that that sweet vanilla note really packs a wallop. Now I know to use just a tiny dab.
I am not one that really changes my fragrance season by season..I only change my skincare for the winter months when its cold and dry..
I am in V&A Feerie today and just did the usual NYC Greenmarket, coffee..croissant..home..
Wearing Shalimar yesterday for the community project made me realize how much I love it! I love the Vanille flanker as well..even more!
Love the Feerie- my daughter’s signature scent. Sounds like a delicious Saturday.
Love the Feerie bottle.
I do too!
Second the love for the Vanille flankers!
Pretty gravatar! Makes me think of vintage photos that have been retouched–nostalgic and romantic. 🙂
Your gravatar is pretty gorgeous as well!
Thank you! I took this picture on a road trip through California. It is sunrise through some olive trees. One of those magical moments that I was lucky enough to capture. 🙂
Beautiful! Nice shot with the olive trees..
My photo was shot with my phone using different lenses in an app I have-hence the color
I generally do not change frags based on seasons. However I sprayed some Versilla vintage last week when we were running 100 degrees and I thought it turned- I have never smelled anything so horrid!!! I was about to trash it but decided to give a spray next day after it cooled off – and it is back by being a gorgeous smoky Amber. Go figure.
SOTD today Blanc de Courreges – someone mentioned it on a different blog and reminded me of its existence.
That was me maybe who mentioned it.
How do you like Blanc de Courreges? Thoughts?
I like it but it stays close to your skin. I can send you a sample – send me a note marianna_r in the yahooooland
Calling all Coromandel lovers-
Yesterday I added a bottle of the edt onto the splitmeet if anyone is interested! It works out to $1.40/ml. ????
I don’t love cold weather but cold weather scents and winter fashions are the silver lining. Some lovelies I’m looking forward to having in rotation are: SSS Tabac Aurea and Ambre Noir, HdP 1740, SHL Khol de Bahrein and Taklamakan, and Alahiiiiiine! to name a few.
This morning I tested a sample of Farmacia SS. Annunziata Ambra Nera(thanks Clarissa!) which is quite a cozy, woody amber, and Guerlain Habit Rouge Dress Code which needs further attention. So far, I’m getting a barbershop rose.
Alahiiiiine is so beautiful..I wore that last weekend.
Yes it is time to break out Alahiiiine :).
Khol de Bahrein – love, love, love
Oh I just bought a bottle, coming my way soon! So good.
Nice! Enjoy your bottle! I wore it last night for the first time in a while. So yum.
I think I have to put in an order to SSS. I have been really trying to curb my perfume purchasing… But one little travel spray, of Tabac Aurea plus a sample of the new hay leather apple one–spacing on the name, wouldn’t be so much. Right?
If it’s any consolation to your wallet, I don’t think Laurie has put the cart back up yet. She took a break in Sept.
But no, a travel spray and a sample don’t even register on the perfume cost scale!
As Rappleyea said, Laurie might help squash the impulse for you. But, yes, I think small sizes of TA and Equestrian are in order. I actually didn’t need more beyond the sample of Equestrian. But TA is probably my favorite tobacco that I’ve tried.
Gah! Alahiiine is one I forgot to list. I KNEW there was an important omission!
SOTD is Annick Goutal “Encens Flamboyant”, perfect on a grey rainy day. This didn’t work for me in the Summer heat, and is a bit light for Winter, so I guess it’s transitional? Other perfumes that would feel good today:
– Olibère “Escapade à Byzance”
– Lubin “Idole”
– Miller Harris “La Fumée”
La Fumee is my husbands favourite, it’s wonderful on him, and it’s so wonderful for this time of year!
I’m wearing the heck out of Lubin Idole these days, it’s so perfect for early fall!
For me, Autumn means Mitsouko. I find myself longing for that resinous, waxy-peachy smell after wearing lighter scents all summer. Mitsouko makes me think of waxed jackets, crunchy leaves and bonfires.
Mitsouko makes me think of high-end department stores at the holidays. The first time I smelled it I was instantly transported to Hall’s, where my indulgent father always got suckered into buying me something “extravagant” (my mother’s word, because Dad and I couldn’t be trusted to go shopping alone) when we went to look at the Plaza lights.
Ok that gravatar is the cutest thing ever. Nothing better than an orange tabby cat.
Thank you. She thinks she’s pretty great, too. I was just thinking of featuring another of the furries as my avatar for a while but Doolittle hamming it up is pretty hard to top. She has the best muzzlepuffs.
Cuir de Lancome is my first choice for autumnal perfumes. This week at work looked difficult, so I was wearing Everything Will Be Just Fine perfumes: No. 19, Ivoire, etc., and CdL fit right in. And you know what? Everything was, in fact, just fine or at least not too bad.
This one is in heavy rotation for me as well in the fall.
It actually works well year-round, I think, but at its best in the change of summer warmth to crisp cool, leaves changing & falling, weather.
CdL is one of my favorite fall transition perfumes, too. Glad your week worked out ok.
PG Bois Blond for me. In fact, I’m thinking about joining the splitmeet so I can finally own a bottle…
Others: Theorema, Tea for Two, TF Noir de Noir.
I haven’t yet officially rotated out of the summer scents, but last night applied Guerlain Encens Mythique D’Orient, which was still spicy and enveloping this dreary morning.
I’ve got Arquiste Anima Dulcis on my wishlist for the cooler weather.
Anima Dulcis is great. I made a mistake of trying it during summer but have corrected myself since
I transition from citrus and aromatics in the summer, along with florals, to more oriental, spicy, white florals, balsamic, etc. scents. I loved Mitsouko yesterday, perfect for a morning in the 50s and an afternoon in the 80s. Today is a little more spicy with Tibetan Mountain Temple, which is a little much for todays warmer temperatures. Back to citrus and aromatics.
SOTD: SSS Equestrian – and for those who remember my saying that it didn’t work for me when I tested it for Laurie, luckily she saw that comment here and realized that she hadn’t sent me the final, scaled-up version. She said she’d had to make some changes in scaling that one up.
So bottom line – the real, actual final version is gorgeous! Highly recommended.
Transitional fragrances (besides the above) would be, among others, SSS Amber Noir, SSS Cocoa Sandalwood, Mitsouko, Vol de Nuit and Krazy Krizia. YSL’s Yvresse/Champagne works quite well too.
Enjoy the Fall weekend all!
I’ll be wearing Equestrian again to see if I like ot better when it truly feels more fallish!
I’ll look forward to your comments, but I can see where it wouldn’t work in warm weather.
I’m so jealous of all those SSS’s!, wish Laurie could have a distributor in the UK, they sound so wonderful, especially at this time of year.
They are wonderful perfumes. Her Champagne de Bois is as good as any classic that I own!
Dangit, I never remember to say “rabbit, rabbit, rabbit”!
I’m currently sporting some L’Occitane Immortelle de Corse, courtesy of the awesome Hajusuuri, and enjoying it a lot.
We don’t have a lot of ‘transitional’ weather here, so it’s a bit weird for fragrances. I can pretty much wear summer frags until November, so I can pull out my cool weather perfumes now and just pick whatever I feel like wearing. The chilly weather perfume I wish I had right now is a FB of SL La Fille de Berlin.
Mmmm, you smell wonderful 🙂
I usually wear anything anytime, but today I’m wearing the new unnamed Byredo. A woodsy iris/violets scent that smells like old school violet pastilles on the forrest floor. Quite old fashioned and gothic, but not heavy. For me, it evokes Eva Greens wonderful portrait of Vanessa Ives in Penny Dreadful.
Oh, I also have a question. I love Stella and have worn it for years and years. I have quite a stash of the different formulas (the perfume is so good) but starting to get low on the edp. I tried the new one, but it seems different. Thinner and lacking in staying power. Does anybody know it it has been reformulated? The entire line is smaller now, and that is such a shame. The body lotion was fantastic, scrub and body creme too. Boo!
Yes, Stella was reformulated in 2014- new bottle has golden rim under the cap insted of silver one, and yes, the fragrance is thinner now.
Thank you Plyushka for the information. Sad news 🙁
I never knew the original. I have the new and like it. But…it is for when I want a nice, uncomplicated rose. An office scent for me.
I like to say that we have six seasons here on the Texas Coast–presummer, early summer, midsummer, late summer, postsummer, and notsummer. I would categorize early October as somewhere between late summer and postsummer. The calendar says October, everybody is talking about “fall” this or “fall” that, and there is pumpkin spice everything being offered, but the weather here still says summer. We did get out first tiny taste of fall yesterday morning; our low temp was 59 F, the first time it has been below 60 since early May. It still got to the upper 80s in the PM, but at least it felt less humid.
For this “it is supposed to be fall but it still feels like summer” weather I like chypres, floral aldehydes, and some of the richer florals that I find frankly too much in the Gulf Coast summer. I am looking at Parure, Liu, Arpege, no. 5, Oha, and Ormonde Woman (applied sparingly). I don’t have any wishlist right now. Really. I think I have all the perfume I want right now. Is my perfumista card going to get revoked for me saying that?
Laughing at your descriptions but *seriously* glad I don’t live there. Ky. is hot enough for me!
Lucky you, to be happy with what you have! I think you should enjoy that while it lasts. 😉
Here in OK, where you never know which season you’re getting, I’m making a note of your fall-but-still-summer recommendations.
I’m not on the coast, I’m in East Texas I love your descriptions of our seasons.
Me too. I thought we only had two seasons, summer and that weird week in between 😉 I’ve lived all over Texas and not experienced this notsummer thing you speak of. At least, not long enough for it to count as a season.
Your card will not be revoked but you are prime target for being enabled 🙂
I’d love to see this! Roses herself is a “prime enabler”!
The challenge has been laid down! 😀
hahaha! 🙂
I tend to wear perfumes according to my mood rather than seasons so I don’t really have transitional scents…plus, I change perfumes 3 or 4 times a day. I also have perfumes scattered throughout the house and car…so I may change from room to room ( Cristalle is next to my computer, Pohadka near the front door, Coco next to the comfy couch in the living room, Hypnotic Poison and Monsieur Li by my bed). I also have outdoor and indoor scents, scents that work in the open air in nature, and scents that appeal more in an introspective way. So, i can’t really answer the question. Wearing Pohadka though. Off to see that movie about the Met Gala later.
Very interesting. Love that you change perfumes 3-4 times a day!
I’m moody too on scent, but definitely can’t wear some heavier compositions in the 90 degree heat.
SOTD: ELdO Like This which, I suppose, is also my answer to the poll question. (That’s basically why I put it on this morning – though before the poll went up!) I’m definitely looking forward to fall, though of course it will be in the 80s here for the first week of October. I also like Penhaligon’s Elixir in cooler weather – I tried it out on a trip to the East Coast last week. It was cooler there and Elixir played well.
Like This is good… near perfect fall scent.
I love Shiseido FdB when it turns into fall. Also Theorema. We tried the Dior collection Patchouli the other day, and it would be perfect, too. (Though I also like the winter favourites of Bois d’Argent and Mitzah, too, if giant bottles are going to drop free from the skies).
Nothing so far today, still congested and I’m supposed to help build a planter box on the roof. I think I will be in dilettante later as I have a little decant and it smells fantastic, and it’s still sunny…
Mitzah. That is a good one for cooling temps!
Yes!!! Got dig that one out
Love love love your choices!
First off, last night I got back to NST finally and saw folks’ supportive comments about my unruly computer. Because things weren’t stressful enough with my technology, Comcast then went and had an outage in my area, which took out my landline for about an hour and my wifi for another four hours. I was able to finish my edits on the project, but then discovered I could not send it. Grabbed a neighbor who wasn’t thrilled with my wild-eyed desperation, but let me in anyway. So I was able to email the final draft at 1:48, which was 4:48 in DC—so technically I got it in on time, albeit not giving anyone back East much time to do anything with it. I then went grocery shopping, picked up my younger son from school, and THEN poured myself cool, crisp G & T.
Anyway… Transitional perfumes. So I really thought that with only a few exceptions, I like to wear all fragrances in all climates, enjoying their differences at different times of year. But this summer we went to Nantucket and I managed to pick a Horrible selection of frags for the hot humid weather. In fact, I almost went off Neela Vermieres entirely after that trip. Many of the others I brought were samples and small decants–and I wound up roundly disliking all of them. I should have stuck to crisp colognes and their ilk! So I guess I would put herbacious florals and leather florals in the category of transitional… On the leather side I’d include Kelly Caleche and Bottega Veneta for transitional frags.
I’m glad u got the project in on time- what a relief that must have been, I bet u enjoyed that G&T!
I love leather florals for this time of year. BV is perfect, haven’t tried Kelly Caleche, it sounds lovely.
Hey Mayfly… Not remembering if you are in US. If you are, pls email me ann dotty eisenberg atta comcast dotty net . I’d love to send you some KC!
Thanks Oakland, unfortunately I’m not, (UK) but thank u for the kind offer.
I hope today is a relaxing day for u, after you’re recent stresses!
Well the goddess of perfume karma will no doubt wing some your way soon enough!
Ugh, what a stressful day. That must have been the best G&T ever.
Wow, good for you for getting everything done anyway. I would’ve just sat down with the g&t first, probably.
That kind of no-control-over-the-situation sheer panic is stressful and exhausting. Kudos to you for making your deadline.
I don’t have to worry about suffocating heat, either, or what works in that kind of weather. This summer was short and cool, but last summer was long and (relatively hot) and I did have some memorably unpleasant afternoons in the Opium ete flanker, Tauer Orange Star, and Azemour les Orange. I know the last 2 fall into summer categories for a lot of people (along with Orange Sanguine) but they are, to me, orange frags suited to winter (only.)
This is my favourite time of year, and I love rotating my perfume collection, ready for the cooler weather, and darker evenings.
I particularly enjoy leather, incense and violets and golden green chypres for transitioning from summer to Autumn; Cuir de Lancôme, Epic woman, L’Air d’Rien, Azemour Les Oranges, Seville A L’Aube, Balenciage Paris. Two newly acquired loves which work a treat right now are Misia and Dzonka, and I’d love bottles of Coromandel and Dzing! Oh and Mitsouko is perfect too.. So many perfumes, too little time!
These picks are right up my ally. Gorgeous!
Only one I’m not a fan of is Dzing!
I agree!
Ooh isn’t interesting where our likes converge and diverge?-
I smelt Dzing! for first time the other day, on testcard, and can’t stop thinking about it!
I tend to pick perfume by mood rather than season like some others here, but heavier orientals, ambers, and spicy florals do tend to match my mood in cooler temperatures. I’m wearing Etro Ambra today and it’s just right on this blustery fall day.
I will let go of the mainly citrus and tropical/beachy scents around this time of year, and start to go for more amber and orientals, vetivers, spicy and deeper scents. Cuir de Lancome, Coromandel, 31 Rue Cambon, Chergui, PHI, Ambre Russe are some of what I reach for now, and these all get lots of use into winter as well.
I’d say I work in two seasons: Spring/Summer & Fall/Winter but my mood plays quite a bit into my choice as well. Oh yes, my husband would agree with this.. my moodiness that is.
SOTD: Coromandel
Coromandel is perfect for today!
I forgot to put Rue Cambon on my list, it’s stunning most of the time but particularly now.
Amber Russe is very near the top of my ‘To Sniff List’.
U smell wonderful!
I love chergui when the weather changes too, i got a bottle for my husband last Christmas, but like to ‘borrow’ it!
Yesterday I turned 37 and my wonderful husband threw a surprise party for me. So today I am wearing one of his most loved perfumes on me- Marni Marni.
Tiziana Terenzi Laudano Nero is #1 perfume for chilly weather on my wish list.
Have A Great Weekend Everyone!
Happy birthday, and three cheers for wonderful husbands and surprise parties! Hope the festivities and cake last the weekend. 🙂
A very happy birthday to you, and props to the nice husband!
Happy belated birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday and how nice that you got a surprise party!
Happy birthday!
So nice! Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! I forgot Marni, it’s so lovely, and always a good ‘go to’ scent, especially this time of year.
Happy Birthday! Hope you enjoyed your surprise party. So sweet.
We’re transitioning the opposite way here, and I’m looking forward to summer. I tend to wear heavier warmer perfumes in cooler weather, but I think part of the reason I keep the more greeny floral things for spring and summer is that it adds to my enjoyment of the approaching better weather.
And meant to add that my list particularly includes Chamade and Le Temps d’une Fete.
Two beauties!
These two are such gorgeous choices, and also beautiful in autumn, as well as spring.
I need to spend time trying Chamade, jicky etc…and all the Dior and Chanels. How is the Salome , by the way?
It’s a heavy floral with lots of skank.
I start craving rose scents when fall comes around – I only seem to like them in cooler weather. Une Rose is a great transition season fragrance for me. I also start craving scents by Andy Tauer when it starts cooling down.
SOTD – sampling Mulholland by Keiko Mecheri. I lately realized that I am a sucker for any perfume that claims to smell like California, because I loved how it smelled when I lived there. This is a really lovely scent.
It’s got to be one of the better smelling states. I very much miss the smell of SoCal.
I’ve been wearing a lot of roses this fall too. Une Rose, Fille de Berlin, Mona di Orio’s Rose of Holland, Tobacco Rose.
I wish Shangai Lilly was not discontinued, that’s a FB I was seriously coveting. Happily wearing Annick Goutal Vanille Exquise on this unusually cold (and rainy as usual) early spring afternoon.
Have a great weekend, perfumistas!
Solanace, I don’t think Shanghai Lily has been discontinued, it’s still on Tom Ford’s website. Maybe distribution has been changed in Brazil or the stores near you stopped carrying it?
That’s great news, thank you! There’s actually no Tom Ford in Brazil, hence my reliance on gossip.
I had heard it was getting the axe, but saw it at Neiman’s the other day and noticed that Nordies has it on their website again now. I know it was listed as sold out for a while so perhaps the powers that be had a change of heart.
Shanghai Lily is still sold in the Netherlands and Belgium as well.
May I make a bold suggestion? You might just blind buy DK Gold, which is very close to Shanghai Lily and a lot cheaper.
Oh, good to know. I like Shanghai Lily but don’t want to pay the TF $$$.
Our weather here “transitioned” from 97 degrees two days ago to 42 this morning, though now there’s a proper, autumnal, golden-sunlight-cool-breeze-endless-blue-sky thing going on. I broke out the Dzing! for the first time in a long while, and it’s perfect today. I also love ambers in the fall, and have been wearing a lot of Ambre Russe lately. What else? Vintage Shalimar parfum, which is great in all weathers but maybe especially delicious in the fall, and Terre d’Hermes, and Tabac Blond, and “heavyweight” roses like Une Rose and Rose Flash, and Mechant Loup, and and and… so many things!
Even as a fan of cool weather, I think that 55 degree change might be too much for me all at once.
I like your list! “Heavyweight” roses are good in cool weather.
ZOMG That is way too much of a temp drop to deal with. Your skin is probably going crazy, and people must be madly scouring their closets for something to stave off the cold. 30 degree temp drops often happen where I live and it always makes me cranky. Such a shock to the system!
I’ve been wearing a lot of ambers, too, and just pulled out my Dzing decant.
Wearing a huge slug of Spiritueuse Double Vanille today. I love fall and have been enjoying Epic Woman, Kelly Caleche, Feve Delicieuse, Mitzah, Misia, Dries Van Noten and Fate Woman. At least 80% of my collection is fall/winter scents so I am going to be spritzing furiously.
I think my collection veers towards fall and winter too! Love SDV!!!
Am wearing TDC Bois d’iris, with a cool rain falling outside. Just got it out of the “off-season” bin yesterday. Still too warm here for heavy sweaters (and for Bandit, which I’ve been longing to wear again). The powdery/woody/dry iris of the TDC is just warm enough to evoke fall for me.
Wish I had a bottle of Knize 10. I know it’s not that pricy. Hmmm……
I mostly choose my perfume with mood in mind. That said, I dread winter so much, I’m usually in the mood for more of the heavy hitters. Coco, Casmir, Alien, and Fendi.
I’m wearing Chergui today – I missed it so much!
Many already listed what I would include as my transitional fragrances. Here are a few more: Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay, Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt, Aftelier Bergamoss, Rania J Ambre Loup, Le Labo Vanille 44…among others…
Bergamoss. Yum.
Mm, Wood Sage and Sea Salt… that is on my hit list. The matching body cream is great too.
Oh how I wish we’d get chilly nights and crisp days. I have to say as much as I love my Florida winters, I miss my northern autumns.
Wearing Roberto Cavalli Oro, which would be pretty nice for fall.
Today I’m testing Taklamakan from a sample I bought. It is really fascinating because it smells hot – there is actually a sensation of heat in my nostrils, not like chili peppers ot anything. But I am struggling with a strong butter note coming off my skin from it – it didnt smell like that in the vial. So unfortunately the overall affect is very cookie-like, but it’s a really good cookie. it lasted a good 12 hrs.
Fave Fall Scents – Dune, Fate Woman, Interlude Man, Une Rose, Ambre Loup, Chypre Mousse, Mitsouko, and probably a dozen others.
Each year I get stuck on some particular note -2 years ago it was rose, last year it was incense, this year it’s amber.
It does smell hot. I wonder how he got that effect ? I can see where you get butter, though to me it smells more like caramel, but it has has a bit of a salty/sweet thing going on. Funny, I’ve been on a little bit of an amber kick, myself.
The hot sensation was amazing. I smelled like a snickerdoodle cookie hot out of the oven. It smelled really good- it was real butter – not like movie theater “butter”.
I think i’m probably just not a gourmand perfume person. What’s your favorite amber right now?
The one I’ve been wearing the most is Histoires de Parfums Ambre 114, which is not too heavy and has some citrus lift to it.
And Sideris, which I’d call an amber with incense.
SOTD: Givenchy III
I think I prefer Aliage to it but they are both my fall favourites. Wish I could get the latter in Canada. Going to the U.S. in 3 weeks so hope to maybe even get a Christmas gift set. I’ll be in Maui with my Maui Fantasy which smells exactly like…Maui!
For the past few weeks my go-to spritzes have been Eau des Merveilles during the warm days and Vanille Galante for the cool evenings.
What do I wish for? Nirvana Bourbon is stuck in my head. It is such a nice vanilla.
It really is very nice. I especially like the dry down, but wish it lasted longer on me.
Wore L’Atessa today and it made me very calm and happy as it always does. Anubis for nighttime and tomorrow I get to go do some perfume shopping with a friend. As if I need to . . .
Wore Misia to a dance performance tonight, which was not as good as the program on Thursday. But I smelled nice.
Discovered my suede ankle boots need new heels… Left one is worn down to make it slippery. Which I discovered as I entered one of the rooms in our restaurant tonight. As I walked in, my heel hit a spot on the wood floor just wrong so my left leg slid out and down I went. Same leg with the still-recovering hamstring injury. I wasn’t hurt (it’s slightly sore now) but as I got up and got to the table I realized all conversation had stopped and the room was dead quiet. So, I laughed and said in a voice enough for those around to hear, “I’m fine! You can start talking again.” At least they laughed and we resumed the evening…. Maybe I need to relearn how to walk….
But for Fall, I’m looking forward to Cuir de Lancome, Ambre des Merveilles, Blanche Immortelle, and some other samples / decants that have a bit more heft.
So sorry that happened to you. I hope that it didn’t ruin your dinner. 🙁
Arrrgh. Hope you are okay.
Oh dear, hope there are no lingering affects…physical or otherwise. Sounds like you handled it with grace.
U poor thing, It’s horrible to have everyone staring at u, especially when you’re vulnerable and wobbly.
Hope u enjoyed the rest of you’re evening.
Yikes! Glad you’re ok.
Ouch! I’m glad you’re ok.
Thanks so much… Dinner was nice…just a pre-dance thing so somewhat light. It was luckily just a momentary thing. Glad I wasn’t in a skirt!
Ugh. Why don’t heels ever break or slip at home?! Sorry you were embarrassed but glad you weren’t hurt. I had a heel break halfway down some steps once, resulting in my flashing a group of elegant middle-aged ladies and my (then) future father-in-law.
Oh my! That’s definitely an ice-breaker….
I just took my entry into Fall a bit too literally.
Oh no! I hope you didn’t do any serious damage or set back your recovery too terribly.
I often wear Misia on date nights, which always include some kind of performance (music, theater.) It is the perfect scented background for enjoying the arts, I think. I recently happened upon Polge’s description of it, had completely forgotten that it was, in part, inspired by the scent of stage makeup worn by the Ballets Russes.
I began my day in DeProfundis and am ending it in Coromandel. That pretty much sums it up. I also like Black Jade, Box of Eels, sueded leather perfumes, which have already been mentioned, the Guerlain classics, oriental ambers, incense, etc.. Like someone else previously mentioned, I tend to divide my fragrances into two seasons rather than four.
I agree about two seasons, generally. We are not quite there yet, mostly in the 80s. But when I can’t help myself, it’s been Cannabis Santal, Santal Blanc, Santal Blush and BV. Looks like it may be a sandalwood-focused winter. 🙂
Started and ended the day in Anubis. Ahh
Not sure if this question belongs here or in Recommend Me, but here goes. I have read reviews lamenting the discontinuation of Gobin Daude’s perfumes, and have long tried to obtain a bottle of either Seve Exquise or Sous le Bois (those would be blind buys). Whenever said bottles pop up on ebay, the prices are out of this world.
Can anyone familiar with Seve Exquise or Sous le Bois recommend a perfume similar to either one? Thank you!
Although I’m glad that temperatures are dropping, I’m very much in denial about the end of summer. I love the cooler weather but I find the short days a bit of a struggle.
Wearing my newly arrived Beyond Love. I got the refill bottle, which is almost packaged like a lab set, with a pipette and funnel included. A very fancy lab set.
I’ve just realised that BL is my 9th Tuberose and somehow still felt indispensable for my survival, oh dear…
Never too much tubey.
Chanel Cuir Russie provides both cozyness and glam when autumn arrives.
A bright Sunday in the Midlands and I am in Salvatore Ferragamo “Vendemmia”. With its fig leaf and sandalwood it’s a fine Autumn fragrance, supposedly and plausibly inspired by the annual grape harvest in Tuscany.
I spent some time picking out 5 perfumes for the community project next week – “wear a perfume that fits a favourite film or a character in the film”. The challenge was that I like (rather than love) films while they are happening and remember very little about them afterwards, plus there aren’t that many films make me think of a perfume. Anyway, I made a more-or-less tenuous link between 5 films and 5 scents and will hopefully post on how that goes during the week.
Oh, thanks for the reminder! I’m kind of in the same boat – I don’t watch many movies, and when I do they tend to be action or sci-fi, and perfume is probably on no ones’ mind in the films.
I could probably pick any action movie and wear Kouros or something…but that sounds lazy and I dont have Kouros. I gotta get thinkin’!
Well, lazy works! You could choose almost any perfume and put all your energy into a plausible story of why you chose it. (*Almost* any – linking Jicky to Terminator might be a stretch…)
Argh! I hadn’t looked ahead at next week’s challenge either, so thanks for the reminder. I don’t know that I ever voluntarily watch a new film. Usually I’ve got to be forced by my movie-loving husband and then if I like it I’m happy to re-view it occasionally. Most of my favorites are silly comedies or kids movies that make me happy and finding a matching scent might require some creativity. I just refuse to waste my time watching something for entertainment that doesn’t leave me feeling good. I’ve got the news and real life for that.
I’ve interpreted the theme fairly loosely – you could go for a genre or something appropriate to a star of the 20s/ 30s/ 70s or whatever. :^)
Cuir de Lancome this morning… Waiting for that beautiful dry down.
Did I mention I spritzed on some sample of Angel Muse yesterday morning? My husband quite loved it…
Safran Troublant for me today, which goes well with my stable of fall/winter go-tos. I love my spicy roses (Mohur, Une Rose de Kandahar among others). Shangri La also comes out more than in the heat of summer while Cristalle et al rarely come out in the cool days.
Yesterday I went to a mall in my general vicinity because I need new boots but also there’s perfume there. I went to spray some Shalimar on a card to remind myself not to buy any. I also wanted to try Angel Muse but they didn’t have a tester, and didn’t really get a chance to ask about Chanel l’Eau amongst all of the Jimmy Choo talk from the SA.
I didn’t get boots either, the selection was really bad, so the whole mall trip was kind of a bust.
I also got to Ulta to try stash, and it’s – as they say here in the Northwoods – it’s “not bad” (which is more complimentary than it sounds). Definitely the most interesting thing at ulta. Oh, and Nirvana Boubon at Sephora is also good. I already have a couple in that vein so I don’t need either, but if I wasn’t already deep down the niche perfume chasm I would consider purchasing.
But I need to go to a different mall, that one has just gone way down hill. I’ll need to start driving farther.
If you haven’t found Muse or L’Eau by the time I send the decant, I’ll send you my samples.
Late to the party and spent most of the weekend in L’heure Bleue. Today was a little different. It was spent in the current version of Nahema edp. My transition scents are Theorema, Shalimar, and Amouage Dia.
Best of good days to all at NST from this dreary, wet Monday Downunder. I’ve been away in my head, just making sense of stuff, how you do sometimes, and I didn’t want to wear perfume or even think of it until last night. Now I’m in the glorious ragged remnants of last night’s Nahema. It’s a great big forties film star of a perfume, isn’t it? All curves and a jutting hip, red lips and challenging gaze, a sequin here and some satin there…I’m not wearing it to work today! I think I’ll go for something more austere– maybe Misia ?????
I don’t really think of my perfumes by season to any great extent. The climate in Auckland is too temperate for that to be very necessary. I choose by mood and activity and my diary.
And now I’d better dash madly about– it’s 6.30, and I haven’t even showered. I’m teaching at 10 and my lecture is slightly messy. I tell you, I’ve come over all careless and lazy in the last few days. Perhaps I’ll re-focus when I’ve seen the specialist next week and I know what I am facing and what I have to deal with. Hope so–I can’t keep on drooping around like this. It’s most unbecoming.
Hugs to you Waterdragon. It sounds like you have a lot to process – don’t beat yourself up for being distracted and being a bit careless or lazy. I’m sure the only one who would notice is you! A selection of comforting and clarifying fragrances may be in order.
I am smiling at your description of Misia as “austere” – on me, it was like the Moulin Rouge had come to life, and it made me extremely uncomfortable! It smelled like courtesans at the opera when I wore it.
I think I was meaning that it is is more austere than Nahema, but then, everything is! Nahema is the most lush scent that I own, and I really enjoyed it last night. Just not for work!
Wait, specialist? I seem to have missed that chapter. I hope it is nothing serious. Sending you lots of positive thoughts for a good outcome.
Thank you! I may not have said — I just went a bit quiet and away from everything, actually. Anyway, I found out pretty much by accident that I have three severely blocked vessels in my heart — am waiting on the next lot of information to be able to make a decision about what happens next. I’m feeling a little disconcerted by the news, actually, though I’m happy to know because I can take steps to avoid An Event, which is how the specialist spoke of it — in capital letters, I mean.
Reading Sunday night and wishing you quick and good news about next steps, waterdragon, and a rapid resolution of the problem. Very scary, but also very good that it’s been caught now. From across the globe.
As Amy said, wishing you all the best. It is good to catch it now rather than later. Get it scheduled and done quickly. Then worry will be behind you. I have a feeling you’re one tough chick! ????
I’m sure this must have been a great scare, but the good news is, most of these things are very, very treatable.
I wish you all the best, and please be patient with yourself. Finding out that there is something the matter with your health isn’t easy.
A quiet gray Sunday morning. Relaxing with the dogs and enjoying some Fille de Berlin spritzed over Andy Tauer’s Rose Delight body oil.
What a pleasant way to spend your morning, while wearing a lovely fragrance. I spent mine running errands while trailing wisps of Sballo pergume oil. It is an HG fall favorite and I can still smell it at the end of my day. ????
Lovely.
I am wearing MFK Grand Soir. I finally received my discovery set and trying all these lovely scents. I really love Grand Soir, it is perfect for fall.
How exciting, I am looking forward to trying that one as well.
What will I be wearing in the upcoming transitional weeks? Lieu de Reves, Oud al Sahraa, Arz el Rab, Tibetan Mountain Temple, Spanish Amber, Avalon Juniper, Mexican Cocoa, Egyptian Bergamot Rose, Immortelle di Scorzi, Oriental Express, No 22, Dark Amber & Ginger Lily, Vanille Insensee, Black Flower Mexican Vanilla and Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum and many of my essential oil blends that are heavier on the base notes. What do I wish I had…nothing actually….I am going to enjoy what is already in my collection….
A very nice list indeed!
