West Village niche perfume boutique Aedes de Venustas will launch Grenadille D’Afrique next month.
From crackling sap to balmy resin. Smoky wood to sun-seared stone. Purple dusk to ink-black night. Aedes de Venustas’ seventh scent explores the age-old landscape of Africa in a tribute to ancient ebony…Grenadille D’Afrique.
[...] From crackling sap to balmy resin and from smoky wood to sun-heated stone, Grenadille d’Afrique expresses not only its namesake tree, but also the primal landscape in which it grows. Intriguingly described as “fossilized wood rubbed in a vanilla accord” by [perfumer] Alberto Morillas, this strongly contrasted composition sets its dark heart off with luminous notes.
It is dusk or dawn? Sparkling bergamot captures the last rays of the sun, while a purple haze of lavender and violet spill their powdery moonlight on the savannah grasslands…
Run through from twigs to roots with aromatic, juniper-scented sap, this olfactory portrait of the mythical African Blackwood tree is built around a “trunk” of Haitian vetiver. With its complex facets of wood, smoke, earth and flint, it is the vertical axis that draws together the fragrance’s vegetal, animal and mineral notes.
Turned into combustible resin by a lash of ambery cistus labdanum, vanilla exudes its balsamic warmth. Bleached wood, skin-soft bark and sun-heated stone release the day’s heat into the ink-black night, cooled off by a breeze of musk…
Aedes de Venustas Grenadille D’Afrique will be available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, $245.

So far, every time I’ve seen this mentioned, my brain reads it as Grenouille d’Afrique.
Is there a species called “African Frog?” I imagine a scent so named would be aquatic, and somewhat dank. More like a watering hole than savanah grasses.
Which is not quite as compelling 😉
I keep thinking of Grenadine.
Egads! I can’t keep up with Aedes! I have not yet tried Cierge de Lune and now here’s another one. It sounds great so will need to try it when available.
It does sound great!
And the bottle looks like a gorgeous navy although it could be bluish purple.
I only just got around to trying Cierge de Lune last week, and oh, le swoon…
My first thought was fruity-floral,as Passionfruit is known as a Grenadilla in my neck of the woods(which is South Africa, where a LOT of blackwood trees grow,by the way!)
I can’t see Aedes doing a fruity floral, but you never know!
Me neither, part of my surprise reaction, when I read the headline and thought “Hmmm,wait,Aedes?Grenadilla??Fruity-floral from the guys who gave me Iris Nazarena???Let’s read further”Lol.
This sounds amazing. I’m really liking AdV perfumes. This could be trouble.
