Luxury men's fashion brand Robert Graham has launched three new fragrances: Fortitude, Valour and Courage.
Fortitude (above left) ~ Developed by perfumer Ilias Ermenidis. "The art of magnetism and sensuality. For those with a bit of swagger. Like the legendary stamina of the horned ram whose head graces the artful decanter top, Robert Graham Fortitude evokes a daring sense of self and true grit. Deep, rich and almost mystical. Born of alchemy and the exotic. An overly sensual top note of tobacco absolute with secondary notes of patchouli and tonka bean are melded to perfection for this distinctive blend."
Valour (above center) ~ Developed by perfumer Harry Fremont. "The art of audacity and boldness. For the loyal and the dynamic. The bulldog has always been a symbol of fierce individuality and willful intelligence—a fitting way to top off such a determined essence. Housed in a faceted decanter and finished with a foulard print, this bottle gives a nod to the well-dressed modern gentlemen. This blended essence walks the line between fresh and sybaritic, mixing top notes clary sage, coffee santos and amber wood to give it the epitome of eclectic sophistication."
Courage (above right) ~ Developed by perfumer Alberto Morillas. "The art of speed and style. For the drivers and the driven. An essence crowned with a symbol for the drivers and the driven—the racer. Skimming the curves of Monaco and cliffs of the Pacific Coast, this blended essence is for men of speed, who have a passion for risk taking and a penchant for style. A smooth top note of classic vodka citron merges with fresh bergamot and is finished with subtle smoky guaiac wood to instantly evoke a thrill-seeking drive along the ocean cliffs."
Robert Graham Fortitude, Valour and Courage are available now at Bloomingdales, $295 each for 250 ml (in decanters shown above) or $125 each for 100 ml (smaller bottles without the decanter tops), concentration unknown.

Decanters of spirits-inspired perfumes for men. I’m surprised this explicit connection hasn’t been tapped (yes, I did just say “tapped”) before. You can see them marketing fragrance flights and the like in the future. Below is from the website:
“Instead of creating the expected Eau de Toilette or Eau de Parfum fragrance, master perfumers have blended the finest raw ingredients at their optimal levels to create a whole new category. These blended essences are the product of a singular blending and aging process that yield a flight of rich and expressive scents.
“Robert Stock, Founder of Robert Graham, was inspired by the rare craftsmanship of blended spirits for the brand’s first foray into the world of men’s fragrance. “Men are so attached to rare and collectible spirits, they’re a part of his life. We created the fragrances and the decanters as something men can relate to – an artful bottle he would want to keep to decorate his desk, study or book shelves,” remarks Robert Stock.”
Raw ingredients? Hmmm… But for a fantasy, it is new and stylish without being macho or misogynist.
Not sure they’re really the first, although at the moment brain is blank on the subject other than the Angel flankers and the various wine-inspired scents like Ginestet, Kelly & Jones. Will see if I can think of more…
Totally agree about Angel, et al. Except that here the connection goes as far as suggesting that raw materials were used, then “aged” like “spirits,” so the whiskey and other spirits metaphor/simile is taken to a whole new explicit level. These fragrances aren’t just being marketed to smell like liquor, they are in themselves like fine spirits (if you take the flannel seriously I mean) in how they are made and then “decanted,” in the errrr decanter bottles.
Valour sounds interesting. I like the style of the decanter bottles.
Kevin is going to need that bulldog bottle 🙂
R, aaahhhhhh…why did you have to point that out to me!?!?
????
Fortitude sounds nice.
At first I thought that third one was Batman…
🙂
