Seasoned perfumistas will do just fine when choosing colognes for their fathers, so I'm concentrating on scented "sides" this year — perfumed items that make life more pleasant. (Fathers...feel free to treat yourself to anything on this list.)
Brooklyn Grooming Beard Lovers Set: Beard oil kit with four scented oils, including Commando (scent-free), Williamsburg (cedar, Ho wood, ylang-ylang), Fort Greene (pine, rosemary, juniper, lavender, bergamot) and Red Hook (Bay Rum, cardamom, citrus), all in 4 dram vials, and 1 oz Pilgrims Beard and Hair Tonic (rosemary-scented), plus a Brooklyn Grooming limited edition beard-moustache comb. $95 at Brooklyn Grooming.
Brooklyn Grooming Hair Lovers Set: Set includes 1 oz Pilgrims Hair and Beard Tonic, 2 oz Old School Pomade (in one of four scents), plus a Brooklyn Grooming limited edition handmade pocket comb. $69.
Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements shave soaps: In interesting scents like Neroli, Gondolier (rose, jasmine, juniper, cedar) and Black Tea. 3.5 oz for $10.95 at Smallflower.
Fellow Barber Signature Candle: In a "shatterproof, reusable blue cup made by one of the oldest enamelware manufacturers in the United States", the Signature candle has a "clean and woodsy aroma with subtle floral undertones inspired by Fellow Barber founder Sam Buffa's youth in Kings Mountain, California". With notes of cypress, lime, myrtle, thyme, galbanum, vetiver, sandalwood, cedar and birch tar. 9.4 oz for $60 at Fellow Barber.
Blind Barber Tompkins Candle: The soy candle is hand-poured in New York City, and the notes of honey, smoke, leather and lavender were "chosen because of their special connection to the barber shop". $32 at Blind Barber.
Jao Staycation Paks: In two sizes. For $13, in airline approved sizes, you get two semi-resealable 10 ml Jao Refresher hand sanitizers (with lavender, Tea Tree, eucalyptus, geranium, sage), LipJao lip balm (lightly flavored/scented with grapefruit), 6.5 g jar of Goe Oil solid body oil lightly scented with Monoi from Tahiti, and Jao Face Crème samples. For $60, full-sized products including LipJao, Goe Oil and Jao Refresher. At Jao.
Le Bain Hermès soaps: gift box of three bath soaps. You choose any three from nine fragrances, and each soap is available in a variety of packaging designs. $63 at Hermès.
Aesop The Guild of Artisans "A Certain Radiance" gift box: Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash, 500 ml; Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm, 75 ml; A Rose By Any Other Name Body Cleanser, 200 ml; Rind Concentrate Body Balm, 120 ml; $110 at Aesop, where you'll also find a variety of gift box selections.
And for TRUE gourmand-scent lovers who prefer their "fragrances" to be drinkable/edible:
B.G. Reynolds cocktail syrups: B.G. Reynolds believes "the art of making exceptional tropical cocktails is timeless...each drink is its own island escape". Cocktail syrups in a variety of flavors, like Orgeat (almonds and cane sugar), Lush Grenadine (pomegranate and hibiscus), Lime Cordial (limes, demerara sugar) or Tiki Spices (Jamaican pimento berries and vanilla bean); 25.4 oz for $12 at Awesome Drinks.
The Dead Rabbit Orinoco Bitters: From the line of bitters developed by Dr. Adam Elmegirab, Orinoco Bitters are "flavored by warm spices such as cardamom and cassia bark, floral notes from chamomile, dried fruit flavors from raisins, fragrant aromatic bark like sandalwood and angostura, citrus oils from orange peel, and a bitter sweetness from molasses." Use in place of Angostura; 100 ml for $25 at The Dead Rabbit.
Bittermilk Cocktail Mixers: Bittermilk of Charleston, South Carolina, makes creating cocktails easy (add booze, ice and shake!) Smoked Honey Whiskey Sour: “We've revived this old classic by smoking honey over bourbon barrel staves. Bitter orange peel and lemon make for a slightly tart and smoky cocktail. Honey adds a nice frothy head when shaken vigorously. Mixes best with bourbon but swap it out for tequila to make a slightly smoky Honey Margarita. Shake equal parts Bittermilk No.3 + whiskey with heavy amounts of ice.” Other flavors include Bourbon Barrel Aged Old Fashioned; Tom Collins with Elderflowers & Hops; Oaxacan Old Fashioned; Charred Grapefruit Tonic; New Orleans Style Old Fashioned Rouge. 17 oz for $15 at Bittermilk.
Mariage Frères teas: For a flower-loving father, what about the unusual Mariage Frères Lily of the Valley (Muguet) Teas, available in white, green or black teas; €25 per canister at Mariage Frères.
Pierrepont Hicks Father's Day Gift Box: Pierrepont Hicks teamed up with The Great American Pancake Company of Wisconsin and Bobo's Mountain Sugar of Vermont to offer you "the easiest way to knock out a fantastic Father's Day gift in one box". With one Buttermilk mix and one half pint of Bobo's delicious syrup, plus the necktie or bow tie of your choice. $72 at Pierrepont Hicks.

Wonderful list, Kevin!
Does the father need to have a cat or a dog or some other proxy to buy the gift for him because, well, getting the gift(s) yourself for yourself is just not the same?
hajusuuri: a cat or dog will work!
I absolutely love the choice of painting!
I need some of those cocktail syrups for myself … and the packaging for those Hermes soaps is just gorgeous.
Betweenthelines: yes, a great image for this post! It’s great that Hermes provides choices on not only the soaps you choose but the wrappings too.
I’m a bit worried that he would think I’m trying to poison him with that lily of the valley tea. 😉
Jonas: memories of “Breaking Bad?” HAHAHA! I assume the blossoms “scent” the tea without being in it…but really am not sure of what bits of the plant are poisonous.
What wonderful ideas! That Hermes packaging is beautiful – can’t believe you can choose scents and packaging! I guess that’s why it’s $60 for 3 bars of soap 😉 I would love to get several of these for my husband (and father of our 2 daughters), but he is scent averse 🙁 He does use a beard wax now which has an herbal-ish scent that he is OK with, but I wouldn’t buy him more in case he didn’t like the smell. Love the tie and pancakes idea as well, though he is not a tie-guy either. Ah well – maybe some spirits are in order!
odonata: I’m buying some of those cocktail mixers too…charred grapefruit sounds great.
Go see the glass teapots on the Mariage Freres website. Maybe not for dad, but they are sooooo giftable. Everyone needs one, I am sure.
Great list! Sadly neither my father nor my husband cares for perfume. Hubby does like scented candles though and those look awesome. Dad…well let’s just say he cuts his hair with a Flowbee, so all this would flummox him completely 😉
