Never, ever confuse what happens on a runway with fashion. A runway is spectacle. It’s only fashion when a woman puts it on. Being well dressed hasn’t much to do with having good clothes. It’s a question of good balance and good common sense.
— Oscar de la Renta, who passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. Quoted in Oscar de la Renta, Who Clothed Stars and Became One, Dies at 82 at the New York Times.
When I was a kid, my mom used to wear the one in the tall, wavy, laterally compressed bottle with a black lid. My father bought it for her, after they had been divorced for several years. He was always trying to get her back.
I don’t think I ever owned a single OdlR fragrance…it’s a shame he didn’t have better luck with the perfume line.
Great quote! RIP Mr. de la Renta.
What a lovely, apt & well-deserved quote from The New York Times. I wore his original fragrance for years – my Dad used to buy it for me for a treat if I was running out & didn’t have extra money to spend – my Mum thought he was indulging me & being too extravagant (I was in my early 20s at the time) until I got her interested in fragrance, she found Joy & that was it for her!
