I don’t know where else to put this that it won’t be completely off-topic, but what does anyone think about the 2-day vintage perfume sale at TPC?
I’m still a bit conficted about starting to chase the bygone smells of yesterday even though they tend to sound more like what I want… I’m just not willing to chase that Unicorn all the time.
But what are the chances, do you think, that these offered perfumes are perhaps beginning to “spoil” or whatever the right perfumista term is… That they are in short, no good anymore even so far as just giving one a sense of now-past glories of perfumery?
If you’re looked at the list — 7 pages long — do you see anything that’s a “try if while you can” scent? (That you’re willing to say before you get yours on order, lol…)
….Oh, and I received a sample set of Bruno Fazzolari’s five new scents the other day. They smell nice. ….Too bad I don’t know anything more to say : (
Didn’t know about it…wouldn’t expect them to be entirely spoiled or they presumably wouldn’t sell them, but likewise would not expect them to smell like they originally did.
The main point, to me, of smelling vintage is to understand the history of perfume -> I certainly wouldn’t go paying for vintage samples in order to find a scent I liked.
Angie has a nice post that might help:

Hi, Robin.
I’m not thinking to look to find a scent I like directly, but I do see comments fairly often that “such-and-such new perfume reminds them of _____ vintage” …. which makes the reference useless unless I know the vintage.
Thanks for the link; I’ll give it a look. I do already have a number perfumes on my sniff list marked as “Vintage”.
I guess I’m on the fence about getting more samples right now. I have roughly 125 here or in various stages of coming to me and still no solid plan for how to make those samples into *real* knowledge about what I like.
As much as I’d like to fill in an olfactory history of perfumes, I’m not sure that it would move me forward for picking a fragrance currently available (…of which I intend to buy about ten bottles so that the reformulation grimlins can go stuff it.)
Thank you : )
Seriously, at 125, I’d stop for awhile, maybe a good long while! It’s a journey, not a race 🙂
LOL…you’re right, but at my age everything’s a race and not one I’m likely to win.
The Perfumed Court sells good stuff. Nothing I’ve ever gotten from them has been turned and I’ve been buying from them for years. More likely is that they are trying to clear some space–obviously, having hundreds of perfume bottles around eats into available space and it’s not very profitable if nobody knows about these scents to even order them
Thank you for this, Goddess.
My original post wasn’t to question TPC’s integrity; more to inquire about the reality of aging perfumes.
But I had read some comments online that led me to wonder if others had had problems dealing with TPC. So your assurances are appreciated.
Some of the samples are quite pricey even in very small amounts. TPC may have priced themselves out of the market for ‘perfume history lessons’ for all except for the most avid and well–heeled perfumistas.
