Demeter has launched Saltwater Taffy, the latest addition to their Fragrance Library.
Saltwater taffy is composed of sugar, cornstarch, corn syrup, glycerin, water, butter, salt, food coloring and various flavors, natural and synthetic. Contrary to popular belief, the taffy contains no salt water (seawater). It does, however, contain both salt and water, and thus the name as well as the distinct taste and smell. Demeter's Saltwater Taffy, with hints of vanilla and caramel, captures that salty sweetness perfectly.
Demeter Saltwater Taffy is available in 15, 30 or 120 ml Cologne ($6 – $39.50) and in matching bath & body products.

The name “saltwater taffy” was coined by an Atlantic City candy shop owner whose stock was damage by storm flooding in 1883. He decided to recoup his losses and sell the brine-soaked candy anyway, adding “saltwater” to its name as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the storm. Locals loved it and the name stuck.
Yes…actually if you go to the Demeter site, they give that whole history 🙂
Thanks. 🙂 It’s actually a question we get asked quite a lot at the library reference desk where I work– our branch is the local history hub, and New Jerseyana is our stock in trade….
Ah!
