The Monday Mail is back, and yes, the Monday Mail had a wonderful summer vacation, thank you! If you want to get on the waiting list, which is pretty short at the moment, see here.
Today we're helping Marielena, who wants to find a new everyday scent with some staying power. Her perfect scent will be sexy, floral, clean but not sweet, and not too grassy green. She can spend up to $200, and while she'd prefer something she can smell in person, she has great access to perfume stores. Here is what we know about Marielena:
She's in her early 30s. She is from New York City, and works there as an actor, mostly in TV and film, focusing on comedies.
She loves fashion, especially McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Topshop, vintage, anything chic, sexy, original, slightly costume-y.
She says she is fun, funny, sophisticated and not afraid to take risks in her clothes, scents and performances.
Marielena loves white flowers, woods, and feminine scents with a sexy masculine edge. Some favorite fragrances include Alexander McQueen My Queen, Clive Christian 1872, Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, Pacifica Gardenia, The Different Company After Midnight, Bond no. 9 Nouveau Bowery, Montauk and Chelsea Flowers.
She doesn't like anything too sweet or unsophisticated, and she doesn't want to smell like a little girl or a cupcake.
What say you?

Perfumes Marielena should try:
Thierry Mugler Alien
Chanel Gardenia
Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia
Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDP
Elie Saab Le Parfum
Marni by Marni
Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue
I would suggest:
Tom Ford Black Orchid
Fracas
Narciso Rodriguez for Her (as mentioned above)
Chloe EDP
Thirding NR for Her!
Also try Carnal Flower and Annick Goutal Songes.
Agreed, top suggestion would be Carnal Flower, though it exceeds cost criterion. Maybe seek out a decant or travel spray.
Couple of my suggestions:
Parfum d’Empire: Eau Suave and 3 Fleurs
Histoires de Parfums: Vert Pivoine, Blanc Violette
Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue
Ramon Monegal Barcelona Kiss my Name
Balenciaga Paris.
CDG White is a white flowers fragrance with incense and that CDG edge.(Not horrendous price either).
I’d suggest the new Balmain Ivoire.
Ditto.
I’m a big white floral fan and I have the following suggestions.
Robert Piguet Fracas
Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
Parfumerie Générale Tubereuse Couture
Roja Dove Scandal and Gardenia Extrait
Arquiste Flor y Canto and Infanta en Flor
Caron Tubereuse
Van Cleef & Arpels Gardenia Petale
You might also want to try Tabac Blond by Caron. It’s not a white floral scent, but unisex (to my nose, anyway) and uber sophisticated.
Perhaps L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse
Serge Lutens Bois de Violette – this would be in the direction of a woody clean floral with a masculine edge…
Love & Tears By Kilian for a pretty jasmin and try the new Le Labo Lys 41- here Robin’s review: https://nstperfume.com/2013/06/19/le-labo-lys-41-fragrance-review/
And you might also enjoy Bottega Veneta Eau Legere.
Woody feminine scent with a masculine edge…maybe
Hermes Eau des Merveilles?
I’ll second the Marni and Balenciaga Paris suggestions. Others you may like include:
Elie Saab
Tom Ford Neroli Portifino
Tom Ford Violet Blonde
By Kilian Beyond Love
Etat Libre d’Orange Jasmin et Cigarette
Try Yosh White Flowers, Caron French CanCan, and I’ll second Eau Suave (love this one!)
Did anyone suggest Oromonde Jayne Woman or Ta’if? Tolu is nice too! and Tiare!
I second the Bois de Violette. Also, in the Bois range, how about Bois d’Iris from Van Cleef and Arpels. Woody and irisy and beautiful. A tad masculine. Maybe a bit pricey…decants…
Out of your price range, but a decant of Amouage Dia Woman, or Chanel No. 22, flowery and incensey.
I didn’t see a suggestion for Ormonde Jayne Woman. But it’s certainly woody, original, gorgeous. Maybe not flowery enough. It’s a classic.
Jo Malone Orange Blossom. Clean, pretty, linear but a lovely orange scent. Not great lasting power, but one of my favorite blossom scents. And the 30 ml is within budget. I’m testing the new Peony Musk as I write. OK.
Creed Fleurissimo: refined white floral
Hermes Caleche Soie de Parfum: refined soapy floral
Sonoma Scent Studio Champagne de Bois is a lovely woody fragrance at an excellent price point.
Hi Marielena,
I think Maison Martin Margiela is worth a try. If only the opening isn’t too green, I have a feeling this one might fit your aesthetic.
Good luck with your search!
EL Jasmine White Moss
Frederick Malle Parfum de Therese, En Passant, and Carnal Flower.
White flowers + not sweet + fresh + sophisticated = you have me a bit stumped! Most white florals are a bit sweet to me.
Maybe the original Marc Jacobs, or Annick Goutal Matin d’Orage. They are white florals but on the fresher side.
Casting another vote for: Estee Lauder Private Collection: Tuberose Gardenia, By Kilian: Beyond Love and Etat Libre d’Orange: Jasmin et Cigarette.
I would also suggest Kate Walsh: Billionaire Boyfriend. I know the name sounds horrible, but this is a jasmine scent and is supposed to have a masculine edge. You can smell (and request a sample of it) easily at Sephora.
Best of luck finding your fragrance!
