Indie botanical line Roxana Illuminated Perfume has launched Figure 1: Noir, a new natural fragrance:
Roxana Illuminated Perfume introduces a curious collection of natural perfume narratives beginning with Figure 1: Noir, a fragrance tailored for those with a passion for patchouli.
From her tool box of cross fertilized artistic disciplines, Roxana illuminates an eccentric curiosity birthed of primordial earth. Figure 1: Noir is an intriguing perfume oddity, deep and resinous with a loamy plume of botanical musk featuring harmonious notes of patchouli, green vetiver, Mysore sandalwood, orris and valerian juxtaposed with the pungent tartness of buchu leaf, black cumin, green cognac and davana. The effect is as intimate and universal as human skin with an unsettling wild animalic shadow.
Roxana Illuminated Perfume Figure 1: Noir is available in liquid and solid formats, including samples ($8-$185), and can be found now at the brand’s Etsy shop.

carnivore skull hat – yikes!
It’s kind of cool looking, though.
so basically more werewolf than vampire?
🙂
Oh lordy, VALERIAN? I used that herb once as a ‘sleeping pill’ for insomnia, and it has, to me, the most horrible sweaty gym sock odor that is beyond earthy. Combined with cumin and pachouli, I think I will pass on this one.
But think about things like real musk, or ambergris….they likewise do not smell “good” on their own.
^^^^^^^^ LOL YES, exactly!
Valerian smells of smelly, sweaty feet..I have NO idea why anyone would put that in a scent! Just smell a bottle of valerian pills…you may not even want to take the pills, it’s so bad, lol.
Well it sounds like at least this one might live up to the “noir” name. I like the artwork. It makes my inner goth girl very happy. I haven’t tried any of her fragrances yet, but I would like to.
I’ve tried it, and the valerian doesn’t read as straight valerian, it’s modified a lot by the other things in it. Valerian has power and tenacity tho, so it acts to make the fragrance hold well for a botanical perfume. It’s a dark spicy aura, more of a shadow, has a dark herbaceous feel if you can imagine that.
hmmm. I am still getting a sweaty werewolf with dirty feet.
Ditto what Luccia said. I have smelled this too and I didn’t even know that valerian was in the mix, and I know how pungent it can be!
Robin is correct in pointing out that many ingredients used in perfumery don’t smell good when sniffed in isolation, but used judiciously and by someone who knows what they are doing, just might be able to create something beautiful. You never know until you have smelled it for yourself.
It has nothing to do with sweaty werewolves, or dirty feet I can assure you. But I’m sure you were joking, RavynG 😉
